Sorry for the spam, just wanted to post a quick update - I went ahead for the secondaries and now I'm testing it, the best way - Trial by Fire. Here is a quick video of going close and personal on a contested point. In the end, secondaries did about 15 k damage, 9 by direct hits and 6 by fires. Not too shabby. They have the potential to tip the scales in your favor or scare away someone. For now, I'm pleased with their performance and I still have time till 04.08 to respec. Until then, sea trials continue.

Radar is nice thing, but have you concidered that ze Germans can't have it ? Only for US and Mother Russia. So Kriegsmarrine is stuck with the "inferior" Hydro. Which lasts Ages, have very good range and can spot torps. That torpedo soup, that Shimakze just launched. You'll never see it coming with radar. Furthermore, you can't have radar on German Cruisers. Survivability Expert on cruisers ? Forget about it. It makes more sence on BBs that Cruisers, since their armor can bouce shells and that additional 2000 hp can last longer. On a cruiser - they'll be gone in a single shell. Thats 4 skill points going up in smoke after a single BB shell (which does ~4000 damage by the way).

Fellow captains, next day Situational Awareness will be gone so we have to choose new skill T1 skill for our cruisers. So what is the collective wisdom ? Which skill goes best with which tier 10 cruiser ? (I know that this is a matter of personal opinion, but overall some skill may go better with some cruisers) Des Moines ........ probably BFT for more AA dakka ? That may be valid for the whole US line. ZAO ....................probably BoS ? Her AA won't impress anybody and spending less time on fire is generally viewed as a positive thing. Hindenburg..........I really don't know about her, Very strong AA, perhaps strong enough that you don't need BFT Moskva................Bos ? - same reasons as ZAO. Disclaimer - I'm talking here about 15 skill points captains. Later when more points are available one can chose whatever his heart desires.

My Hipper have Manual AA for T4 skill - one of the best ships to have that since alot of AA firepower comes from the big guns. With this It shots down planes like its competin in the Olimpics. Last game - 32 shot down and one sad Shokaku. I find it usefull since I'm runnning Hydro and this is my only form of AA protection - your normal AA without high alert won't cut it against a determined T8-T10 carrier. This way you can defend the fleet against DDs AND airplanes. I have also thrown in an AA module for increаcеd range (none of the other second slot modules seems to help much on Hipper - she have enough accuracy and turret rotation)

DE is a crucial skill for the Soviet Cruisers. Those pea shooters have hard time even against cruiser armor and you will have to face Yamatos. More fires are your saving grace.

Thank you very much Wargaming.

Ibuki, is it a keeper or an instant sell after Zao?
nooberg replied to xenopathia's topic in Cruisers
Sell it, ASAP. (but dont use freeXP, its not that bad ship) No point of playing it once you get a taste of Zao. Playing Zao turns your target reticle into a finger of God - you point at something that offends you and the thing gets erased by holy fire. Thy Will be done ! -
I didn't expected much going from Budyonny to Shchors but that extra turret made all the difference in the world. Give the captain a Demolitions Expert and rain fire.

My expicience so far is that for AP anything less than 207 will do almost nothing to BB armor. So HE and fires are more helpfull. NC is supbpar to Tirpitz in close combat because of torpedoes. I personaly try to keep them Tirpitzess at arms lenght (6-7 km. range). This way his secondaries can't reach me, and I'll have easier time dodging torps. Does't always work but thats the idea. Also, we're talking about NC only. I plan to keep it and this captain will stay on her. Another question - does the Secondaries module (-20% dispersion) and Manual Secondaries (-60%) stack and in what manner ? What will be the final ( - % ) dispersion ?

The "Situational Awareness" is gone...
nooberg replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
So. hm... my Gearing captain is screwed. Just unlocked the 5-th tier skill, now I'm like 200 000 XP form the next skill point. He will be gimped with -10% damage, unless I spend money. And removing a skill from the tree don't just screws captain like mine, it screws with lots of captain skill builds and its gonna require respec. Is that the master plan ? Keep shuffling skills, Profit. -
Big ranked battles compilation thread so we dont have multiple other threads discussing the same thing.
nooberg replied to txtspeak's topic in General Discussion
Does anybody actually WINS battles on ranked. I only meet guys with like 8 games loss in a row. I'm currently at 5 but I keep working. Good thing rank 15 is irrevocable, or I'm going to be -12 by now. Last season got to 5 with little effort, something is not right here. p.s. I would give 1000 gold to have a game where our 3 DDs don't die in the first minute. -
Can't say about the other ships but I have Albany and its BOOOOORRRRRIIIIING. Gameplay example - sail close to an enemy. Spam. Sink. Repeat. I personally will aim for Smith - seems like the most fun ship of the bunch.
-
Here is another idea - just give everybody who have both captains one more slot in reserve.

If you've got up to the Fletcher I say you are pretty devoted to the line Me - I have unlocked Gearing a month ago, but still have not moved to it - waiting my captain to get 15 skill points. Playing it without concealment skill is gonna be just a money sink, I wager. One thing people overlook in Gearing is that it have 4 guns in front - it means that when you chase that pesky Shima it can bring 2/3 of its firepower to bear. Back to Benson vs Fletcher - don't let port-ratings fool you, Fletcher is more than sum of its parts. When I unlocked it, I too was looking at the stats, thinking, why the heck should I bother, its almost the same. Then I decided that I want Gearing, and I have to go trough Fletcher. Played few matches in it and BOOM, mind blown - its much better that expected. So much that I'm questioning "upgrading" to Gearing now.

Since the last patch all projectiles (gun shells) are too small, almost invisible in the air. I can't track where my shots are going. Trails are small and almost transparent, and shells are just a dots, no color, or ...glow. Any shot over 10 km. and I cant see them in the air. Any suggestions for a fix ? Or some mode may be ?

Here is a little tip. You can freely change captains between ARP ships. Soooooo.....is you want to level one captain FAST - you play that captain in Kongo for the first win bonus. Then play the same captain in Haruna, get the bonus again, then in Hiei. And finally in Myoko (if you have it) For a MASSIVE bonus exp. Have a good day sir.

Kiev keeper ? or Just sell and go for the Tashkent
nooberg replied to D7v's topic in General Discussion
Kiev took a heavy beating from the nerf bat. Now, a shadow of its former glory. I say go for Tashkent. Upgraded its quite good ship. 12k health vs 19 k (survive much better) 4km torps vs 8km (these come quite handy) Same guns. Worse rudder shift on Tashkent and a bit worse concealment. But you should know how to work around that by now. I say lose the Kiev, climb higher and keep Gnevny. -
Tashkent here 1. Awareness - you are a DD, you have to take that 2. Last Stand - turret traverse is manageable, Last Stand is irreplaceable, you gon get hit. A lot. Fletcher can wreck your engine 3 times in 5 seconds. 3. Vigilance - Smoke is good too, but with the Radar incoming its going to be less useful. Some people think that firing from smoke is the only way RU dd to deal damage. The fools. 4. AFT - you need range. At tier 8 + cruisers get super scary. Also your gun trajectory enables you to hit reliably at range. Make most of it. 5. Demo expert - see post above. 1. Basic Firing Training - more pew pew. Forget about Concealment - even if you take ALL - skill, upgrade, camo you still gonna get spotted first, with like 2 km margin for enemy DDs. So don't bother. I even took Targeting module instead of Stealth upgrade. Didn't miss it at all.
-
Wrong, You are all doing it wrong. Trying to be stealthy like other puny DDs, Stealth - trash, Smoke - unhealthy habit. Few days ago I made a tread about stacking Vigilance and Targeting module on Tashkent and playing it like a light Cruiser. People said they stack and this might not be a bad idea, so I went ahead and done it.I tried staying with the fleet, just a bit ahead, scouting for torps, pocking at the enemy, drawing fire, dodging fire (mostly), Winning games. Today I checked Tashkent stats from the last days and lo and behold - I went from 65 % winrate overall up to 83 % Average damage went 10k up. That is from 16 days and 23 battles. I think the sample is a bit on the low side and that % will drop, but there will be notable improvement in the end. Now, I'm not doing that much of a damage, probably never will but this play stile is clearly influencing the win. I finally feel useful in Tashkent. ( and probably in next tiers). Previously I simply didn't want to play that trashcan. There are two biggest dangers with playing like that . 1. Your fleet drops down like flies under enemy fire - you wont be able to turn the tide alone. Like well placed Shimakaze torpedo spread will do. 2. Team scatters in all directions, staying far away from objectives - unstealty DD will have a hard time to cap and there wont be much of a fleet to scout for. Don't try to compete with other DDs, even piling all upgrades and skills you will never win at their game. So please, play to your strengths. You may be surprised
-
You are doing it wrong. Didn't I told you ? Never try to cap alone. Not until there are enemy DDs around. The combination of DD and CA are worst case scenario for you - DD will spot you CA will blow your socks off. Until most of the enemies are dealt with, don't make a move on cap points. Alone, that is. If you have good backup move forward and engage. But never alone - stay with the group, support them. I know, I know, the points are ticking in favor of the enemy but you wont help your team with a futile attempt to cap. Focus on keeping them alive and dealing damage - soon the enemy numbers will thin out and THEN you make a move. Otherwise - see the post above.

I want to see the face of the person responsible for the new sounds in 0.5.3.2
nooberg replied to WhiskeyWolf's topic in General Discussion
OH. MY. GOD I heard it guys, Trough my big tower speakers, powered by massive amp (because I like the thunder of a BB volley ). Now I know what are you talking about. OH. MY. GOD. Now I have to play on low volume or risk damaging my windows. -
nooberg on European server High level overview Mostly plays destroyers, especially medium-tier and is excellent in them Deals an above average amount of damage Very rarely uses torpedoes Key vehicle - Königsberg Gunboats FTW !
-
To each its own, cro_pwr. I personally find tier 4 games mighty fun and If I had more port slots I would keep some T4 ships.
-
Lets see, I currently have both.. + The torpedoes - the upgraded ones make BIG difference in hit rates. Like you wouldn't believe it. + You can also use the 3 mil upgrade module - bringing the fire rate even higher or getting lower torp reload. + It has a bit better stealth. - you will face T10 more often than Benson - more repair costs. Overall is a upgrade from Benson. Never felt lacking in power even against T10. But if you don't plan on getting Gearing my advice is to stay with Benson. It plays about the same, it costs less to run and most importantly - you can play Ranked and Team Battles in Benson. You lose that with Fletcher and Ranked is where Benson really shines. I'm keeping mine for that reason, but I will be selling Fletcher and getting a Gearing. Actually, I just unlocked it. Gearing, Here I come.

You can receive Dreadnough achievement on a Destroyer if you have Survival Expert skill and you take 120 % of your normal health. Observe In this game I took ALOT of damage, finishing it at 57 health. ( they also destroyed both my torpedo tubes. Funny thing, all my guns survived )
