My thoughts on the new upgrades: First Upgrade Slot Almost all players mounted Main Battery Modification upgrades in the first slot because bonuses from other upgrades were too slight. With the 0.5.7 update, a new set of useful upgrades is introduced to replace the old one. Removed Upgrades: · Main Battery Modification 1 (-20% to the risk of the main battery becoming incapacitated; -20% to main battery repair time; -20% to the risk of your ship's magazine detonation) · Torpedo Tubes Modification 1 (-20% to the risk of the torpedo tubes becoming incapacitated; -20% to torpedo tubes repair time) · AA Guns Modification 1 (+20% to AA mounts survivability) · Secondary Battery Modification 1 (+20% to secondary battery survivability) Added Upgrades: · Main Armaments Modification 1 (-20% to the risk of the main battery and torpedo tubes becoming incapacitated; +50% to main battery and torpedo tubes survivability) Probably gonna stay my main choice for most ships · Auxiliary Armaments Modification 1 (+100% to secondary battery and AA mounts survivability) Might consider this on my Izumo, but on the other hand the main batteries get incapacitated very often so I'm not too sure about it · Magazine Modification 1 (-70% to the risk of a ship's magazine detonation) No balancing should EVER be done on a mechanic this RNG-dependent, not even upgrades · Gun Fire Control System Modification 0 (+20% to traverse speed of main turrets and torpedo tubes; +20% to secondary battery maximum firing range; -64% to maximum dispersion of main and secondary battery shells). This upgrade will be available only for Premium Japanese ships with 140-mm main guns (currently: Iwaki, Yubari and Katori) Gonna be really nice to have on my Katori Second Upgrade Slot For the second slot, four upgrades were combined to form two new enticing upgrades. Moreover, the Main Battery Modification upgrade became more attractive because its penalty was reduced. Removed Upgrades: · Secondary Battery Modification 2 (+20% to secondary battery maximum firing range; -20% to maximum dispersion of secondary battery shells) · Artillery Plotting Room Modification 1 (+16% to main battery maximum firing range) · Torpedo Tubes Modification 2 (-10% to torpedo tubes repair time; +20% to the torpedo tubes traverse speed) · Gun Fire Control System Modification 1 (-7% to maximum dispersion of main battery shells) Added Upgrades: · Artillery Plotting Room Modification 1 (+16% to main battery maximum firing range; -20% to maximum dispersion of secondary battery shells). This upgrade will be available only for US battleships So basically making this upgrade an option to higher tier USN BBs and buffing mid-tier USN BB secondaries · Aiming Systems Modification 1 (+20% to secondary battery maximum firing range; -20% to maximum dispersion of secondary battery shells; +20% to the torpedo tubes traverse speed; -7% to maximum dispersion of main battery shells) Gonna be a nice buff to my Izumo and a few other ships Reworked Upgrades: · Main Battery Modification 2 (+10% to main battery loading time; +15% to the main battery traverse speed): the penalty has been decreased to +5% to main battery loading time Gonna take this one on my Fubuki from now on Third Upgrade Slot For this slot, the available upgrades are now more useful in terms of enhancing the performance of auxiliary armaments. Reworked Upgrades: · Main Battery Modification 3 (-12% to main battery loading time; -17% to the main battery traverse speed): the penalty has been decreased to -13% to the main battery traverse speed So more a bit more traverse speed for my Izumo and Hindenburg, gonna be nice to have · Artillery Plotting Room Modification 2 (-7% to maximum dispersion of main battery shells): the bonus has been increased to -16% to maximum dispersion of main battery shells. This upgrade will be available only for US battleships Gonna appreciate this once I reach high tier USN BBs · AA Guns Modification 3 (+20% to average damage per second of AA mounts): the bonus has been increased to +25% to average damage per second of AA mounts Still feels like a questionable option with the amount of CVs around. But making it any more effective would make it OP in battles with CVs · Secondary Battery Modification 3 (-20% to secondary battery loading time): the bonus has been increased to -25% to secondary battery loading time I don't think a lot of ships will use this. Perhaps Yamato because it has terrible turret traverse and taking the Main Battery Mod 3 would make it even worse? Fifth Upgrade Slot We increased the usefulness of an upgrade that was rarely used by players. Reworked Upgrades: Propulsion Modification 2 (-20% to time for reaching full power) the bonus has been increased to -50% to time for reaching full power. Moreover, with this upgrade the engine is automatically boosted by 50% while the ship accelerates from 0 to 6 knots (in both ahead and astern directions) Might consider taking this on some DDs because acceleration can be very important when sitting in smoke and getting torp'd

It wasn't removed. The upgrade that you are talking about that was removed was the artillery plotting room mod 1, which was only available to US BBs and will get replaced with an upgrade that buffs both range AND secondaries, the third slot range upgrade that was available for all other non-US-BB ships will stay.

Btw I wonder what the stealth nerf to stealth mechanics is this time. 0.5.5: 3s delay 0.5.6: stealth firing ranges 0.5.7: ???
-
Really? I don't think I've had even a single battle post 0.5.6 on north where a cyclone didn't happen.
-
This is gonna be great for high tier IJN BBs.
-
Just put her at tier 4 where her sister ship is and give her the type 93 torpedoes she carried IRL.
-
Well, US BBs always had the module for increasing main battery range, it just got merged with the secondary one for them now.
-
Did you even try to read the announcement?
-
If all upgrades had drawbacks I would sail a large part of my fleet without/with only some upgrades and other people would do that as well. And keep in mind that demounting upgrades for later reuse on another ship is something people spend doubloons on and they want to keep it that way.
-
Ugh, ready not a fan of the cyclones .
-
I don't really mind paying against them, but I feel like they are causing some rather large imbalances in the game. At tier 5 the CVs are just brokenly OP when there is no AS Bogue involved, yet AA at that tier can't really be buffed because AS Bogue it's a thing and drawing average damage down a lot. At higher tiers I don't really see too much of an impact of AS CVs. I can't really say that I'm doing less damage in my Shokaku when I'm up against an AS Lexi. And yes, they can be decent at team battles, but if neither team had one, they wouldn't really be need that much for it.
-
The thing that makes the Yamato OP is that it can penetrate most other BBs frontally where any other shells just bounce off.
-
Don't think the dispersion on the Yamato is a problem, the overmatch mechanic is what is really making the Yamato OP.
-
Btw guys keep in mind that the reason I'm suggesting this isn't for CV vs CV balance, it's to create a better basis for CV vs other ships balance by removing an element that CVs also need to be balanced against.

Adressing Great Naval Battles Event Feedback
Ictogan replied to MrConway's topic in General Discussion
First of all, thanks for the event, even if there were a lot of things about it that I didn't like I can still appreciate the stuff I got. But my main problem is that the prices were more quantity than quality. I'd rather have ONE tier 5 premium than ALL of the prices I got with this. -
Yeah, but the main problem that I want to address here is that because of AS setups, CVs have to be balanced to be able to be able to do some damage even when playing against an AS CV and the enemy has a bit of AA. Without them, CV vs other ship classes could more easily be balanced imo.
-
That part about AA mechanics is really interesting.
-
We've got a bunch of great people here, would be nice to get even more in .
-
Apparently they were secondary batteries with a caliber of 52mm. Idk why they aren't properly implemented in game, but on the other hand they would most likely do barely any damage.
-
Well I would want to remove the need to balance CVs so they can work against both AS and non-AS setups and are neither OP nor UP in either scenario, because that is impossible.
-
I don't mean to pick on you for not having played higher tier CVs, but I don't think someone who has only played tier 5 CVs can properly judge the strength of fighter decks. Fighter decks are quite a lot weaker at higher tiers where CVs actually have reserve planes. So what you are suggesting is that: Indy 2-0-1 and Ranger and Lex 2-0-2 gets replaced by 2-1-1 Essex and Midway 3-0-2 gets replaced by 3-1-1 Ryujo 3-1-1 and Hiryu and Shok 3-1-2 get replaced by 2-1-3 My opinion on those changes, tier by tier: t5: I think this tier is worth mentioning because it is a tier where CVs have rather bad stats but are still brokenly OP when there is no 2-0-1 Bogue around. In my opinion, 2-0-1 Bogue should get replaced by 1-1-1 and AA at that tier increased, because right now ships at that tier have almost no AA whatsoever(with the exception of Texas). The only thing that keeps CVs from being completely OP at tier 5 is the existence of 2-0-1 Bogue, but in matches where there isn't one of those CVs are just completely OP. t6: 2-1-1 Indy seems like it would consistently be able to beat both 1-2-2 and 2-1-3 Ryujo. I would prefer Ryujo also getting 2-2-1 if Indy got 2-1-1. t7&8: I agree with that, although Hiryu and Shokaku 2-1-3 would be completely useless and noone would pick it(which is not a large change from the current 3-1-2 which I've rarely seen outside of team battles) t9&10: Not sure whether 3-1-1 would be balanced. I'm probably rather biased regarding this one, but I would consider it too strong against 2-3-2 Taiho. It could shoot down enough of my planes for AA to take care of the rest and also have rather good strike potential. You missed one part of my post: and balance CVs based on the stats produced after the change. In any game including an AS CV, the damage potential on both sides is reduced. The game being balanced around the stats that are being created by this means that in games where there is no AS CV, CVs can be somewhat OP, more so at mid-tiers than high tiers. Removing AS setups will not directly balance CVs, but it will make it easier to balance CVs based on stats.
-
The reason why I think AS should be removed is that a) they are very weak. Even if played perfectly, all they can do is take away the damage potential of ONE enemy ship, while giving up their own damage potential in the first place. Quite a few times after I played against fighter deck CVs I checked their stats. Not once did I see someone who uses mainly fighter decks and has a win rate of over 50% in the CVs he uses them in. b) I think the concept of a ship who specializes in being able to counter one specific ship in the enemy team and no one else is flawed. There is no point in winning the sky war if you don't have an impact on the surface war, because the surface war is what decides the outcome of the battle.
-
I'm not saying remove fighters, I'm saying remove specialized fighter decks AND BALANCE CVS BASED ON THE STATS PRODUCED DUE TO SAID CHANGE. Yes, this part of the sentence means nerfing overall damage potential for CVs.
-
While I appreciate your post and agree with a lot of the things you brought up, the main reason why I made this thread isn't IJN vs USN CV balance. Yes, US CVs need to have something going for them again, but that's not the point of this topic. I'm certainly not opposed to the idea of some CVs being somewhat stronger than others in the AS department, but I think that CVs that specialize only on fighters hurt overall balance between CVs and other ships.

Can someone verify BB Nerf after 0.5.5 ?
Ictogan replied to anonym_PWjaPYngDhda's topic in General Discussion
quoted post removed Please explain then why BB average damage hasn't gone down when the dispersion has increased. A huge increase in dispersion should equal a lot less damage, right?
