    ARP ships captain skills

Oh and I would say if you go Jack of all Trades you want Superintendent - but otherwise 4 repairs is enough. The reality is this - you have more than enough time for 5 repairs, but I find myself out of repairable HP in most games with 4 repairs already - and I nearly never take citadel or torpedo hits. I get Dreadnought achievement daily. And another plane is really not worth it. The cooldown on spotters is just too long and the fighters last long enough so that you don't need more than 3. It's not a bad skill, I just think +20% torpedo acquisition range or -10% less cooldown on DCP are more important. The former is basically the same as the module - if you have both the recent nerf to torpedo acqusition range isn't just reverted, but turned into a buff instead. The latter is great because BBs have the longest cooldown on DCP.

First off, I added a few things from your feedback, because I either forgot them (T1 skill situational awareness comes to mind) or because I think they are simply worth adding. As for CV sniping - I hate it. If I was the lead game designer CVs would have better AA (Taiho and Hakuryu) and they would have AA consumable. It's just such a boring and annoying tactic, but with how bad most players are nowadays, even in higher tiers it's incredibly effective. I use it with caution and I try to avoid it, yet I mostly find myself resorting to it, because it's a solid opening gambit. Even if you fail the other CV will be forced to keep fighters over himself at all times, as one or two DBs can end him (1 fire burns for 10k through it's duration), allowing you to strike other ships. It's not as good as a kill, but it comes close in terms of removing any hinderance for you - with the new barrage you can still defend his strikes well. I added the AA mechanic. I will soon finish that section, but I'm out of time at the moment. If I think of some other interesting sections (specific ship guides for example) I will add those. However I think especially for ships I might make seperate topics. Also added Warspite to the DCP section (withering) because it has cruiser-like DCP (5sec duration, 90/60sec cooldown) - which is an exception.

    ARP ships captain skills

Hey I find that offensive and disciminating. CV players can be good BB players too. As for skills, I went with -15% debuff time, gun traverse speed, -10% DCP cooldown and soon the 20% AA/secondary range. I actually am thinking about using the secondaries module, because the accuracy module has negliable impact and the traverse speed is okayish (reload is a big drawback). The AA module is my go-to but lack of CVs and in general the lackluster AA strength of Kongo make it meh. I mean your AA isn't crap, but it's nowhere near good either.
  4. I heard conflicting theories. My personal opinion is that it does. I bought the Warspite yesterday (shame on me for buying a bundle) and if I do around 80k in the Warspite (T6) I get around 300k credits. I do have a premium account. In my Amagi I get 300k for 140k dmg. (All without capping and no flags). For me it looks like it works like a premium ship, which is nice. I am not a fan of anime at all, and much less Ars Nova (I might give it a try, just because I don't judge what I don't know) but I love the ARP Kongo. I think - while totally ridiculous - it looks awesome, the dark black color and the neon purple signs - I even find the anime voice announcer really funny and refreshing. ARP Kongo:

Does the ARP Kongo earn Prem Credits?

I think Adwaenyth you base all you say on the Tirpitz, which I think gets an insane bonus to credits earned compared to all other ships - as evident by my experience with Murmansk and Warspite and the experience of the other people here.

Does the ARP Kongo earn Prem Credits?

In my warspite game I had 1500 base XP, which isn't that far below and I didn't even get 300k. Warspite is premium T6 (even one tier higher). How does that fit that into your calculations? I just don't get it.
  7. (I'm just quoting you because you said it out loud and bluntly, it's not directed at you mtm78). Are those people really that intolerant and whiny? Like really? Do they run to the mosque in their local town and throw molotoves at it because it "doesn't belong here" too? I mean I understand if you dislike carriers. I understand if you like destroyers, or any class, mechanic or whatever. But those cannot be turned off. If you wouldn't have the missions you would be crying "wah wah those stupid anime ***** get free prem ship, flags and credits" - but no, WG gives you ungrateful whiners the mission with the option to turn nearly all of the content off - but no you whine about a little picture. Do you want to be excluded from the mission rewards? Because that's how you get excluded from the mission rewards. It's a compromise so the people who like the content are happy and those who dislike it can live with it as well. DEAL WITH IT Or did your parents pamper you so much that you always got everything you wanted and ONLY your way?

Does the ARP Kongo earn Prem Credits?

My warspite in comparison: Also in the Murmansk I get around the same (250-350k) for really good games. So I am leaning more to the side of "it earns premium credits". Note that those were ranked battles, so there wasn't much to shoot at. I think the rewards are the same in general though. Let's not forget that higher tiers get a lot more credits. I know people get 500-700k in Tirpitz, yet in T5 prems you won't get above 500k except in really rare cases.
  9. That's the case for me.

Yup, Ark Royal, my absolutely favorite ship ever. SoonTM it will be mine.
  11. I constantly get bad karma for killing people in my CV (without dumb comments from me or anything to deserve it). Yet somehow my Karma is +5, dunno apparently some people just like to give points sometimes?

    Poor Carriers?

You're not supposed to bring down 12+ planes if they attack you with Montana. First off, if you dodge properly Montana kills 4-6 Midway planes BEFORE the drop. Secondly, if WG would balance for zero teamplay, then teamplay would become utterly broken.
  13. Syrchalis

    Poor Carriers?

And you expect BBs to get OP by buffing them so hard that they are safe from CV attacks if solo (aka stupid) and completely 100% invulnerable to planes if they actually teamwork? Okay, how about we make carriers in proximity of another ship take 75% less damage? And this stacks? So with 2 ships nearby you take 0 dmg? Sounds fair?
  14. Syrchalis

    Poor Carriers?

The 2nd one actually has about 300k dmg, the first one had only 240k or so. Double strike in the 2nd one is from ships burning out - I did a lot more slow damage in it. Either way, it's about a flat 30% nerf to credits and a 40% nerf in XP, which is extreme. But I guess it helps sooth the BB mafia if you play perfectly and hard-carry the team and in the end screen you are barely 100xp over the BBs. Does a day pass without you crying about high tier CVs? Go back to T7 where your AA keeps you save while being solo. Or maybe... you know ... at least try to stay with the fleet in high tier? You're expected to. It's balanced for teamwork in high tier - not like mid tier where WG expects you to solo all the things. If I drive solo as CV in high tier I die in 3 minutes too.

    Poor Carriers?

If I do 300k dmg and sink 8 ships I get half the xp/credits a DD would get for capping 1-2 points and doing 100k dmg. Before income nerf to CVs: After income nerf:

Updated. Finished Strategy section. Will soon finish the Mechanics section too and add some more pictures where I think they are necessary. Picture requests at certain spots & questions welcome. I'll also give a +1 to who recognizes the carrier in the title image - for fun (hint, hint, it's my favorite carrier (not in the game)). After I am done, I will write a german version of the guide.
  17. Syrchalis

So, who will be the new DD king for ranked?

Fubuki anyone? It has amazing carry potential and with a 6 gun broadside it is the one IJN DD that can hold it's own against the gunboats of other nations. The only thing making the Fubuki not incredibly strong is that it's rather slow and turns bad. Either that or I will use Amagi/Shokaku. With how broken AA is at T7/8 I probably might go with Amagi though.
  18. Barrage does count. I got clear sky ONCE after the patch playing 1/2/2 Essex. It says "using fighter aircraft or targeting with AA" - so barrage or not, it's a fighter aircraft.

A suggestion regarding CAs (and one BB suggestion)

Very good suggestion. I agree with it basically without any complaints. If WG wants players to take on certain roles they need to give them the tools to do their job well (AA ability e.g. is INCREDIBLY potent at it's role - while hydroaucustic is utterly lackluster) reward them properly for doing it. To summarize what's wrong BBs get PUNISHED for tanking damage CAs get PUNISHED for looking for DDs (since BBs will kill them) What I want to add to his suggestion - BBs should have higher base repair costs. Okay, stay with me. But if they get sunk their "maximum repair cost" should be lowered. This way you will pay the same on average, but wether you take a lot of damage or not isn't as important. Then as for a tanking bonus - I think it shouldn't just be a damage = XP bonus, as that wouldn't make sense. Instead a BB should always get a bonus in XP when it's selected as target and something is fired at it - if it hits or not should be IRRELEVANT. The best tank is the one that gets shot at by every ship and is never hit. So for example one BB is broadsiding and gets shot at 10 times and dies - he would say get 20 bonus XP. Another BB angles and dodges and gets shot by several ships over 100 times - he would get 200 bonus XP. How to calculate XP? Simple. Shells - Caliber*0.001 = Bonus XP (so e.g. if you get fired at by an Amagi with 410mm shells it would be 0.4 XP per shell) Torpedos - 2 XP per torpedo fired at you Aircraft - 1 XP per bomb and 2 XP per torpedo dropped at you. As for CAs - two ways. Either a flat bonus, or they actually make hydro search actually good by nerfing the torpedo spotting to say a 20-30% bonus and the ship sonar range to 6km (including inside smoke).
  20. 50% of all enemy planes in the game (launched or not). But a minimum of 30. So uh... 30. Not really a contest.

    nerf us cv's plz!

Here is the error in your thinking: Bogue + 11 teammates that might be good or might suck VERSUS Zuiho + 11 teammates that might be good or might suck For simplicity, lets assume both get similar teams. The Bogue will never ever deal any damage with 1 DB, aside from maybe 10k. The Zuiho will - if she just gets one strike off - probably have 40k damage already. Now the Zuiho team is up 40k damage, damage the Bogue cannot REPAIR or make up for by dealing damage ITSELF. So whenever a bomber Zuiho faces a Bogue, the Bogue can at best go even with the Zuiho, but just one good TB drop and the Zuiho is ahead forever. That's why it has a much better winrate. So my "self-centered" view is actually just objective.

    High tier CV exploit

Lately there are so many bad CVs around it is actually my prefered tactic now. >_>

    AIs need flying lessons

It's WGs style. They rather have strong things in their game that are unreliable than balanced reliable things. Because balancing something unreliable is a lot easier to do in a way people can accept it.
  24. WG expects people to work together on T10, it doesn't mean they do. Also a Baltimore and Montana together can basically not be attacked by planes, except if they expose broadside in a way that allows the planes to fly directly at them (without even 1m of repositioning) and drop and GTFO. As most players have enough brains to actually make planes turn turn turn and reposition for half a minute ... even a Montana by itself can shoot down 6/12 incoming Torpedo bombers.
  25. Or we could balance all plane types so you could drop the limits and it would still be balanced. They are so resilient because AA doesn't go up much from T8, but plane HP nearly doubles. Why? Because T6-8 is made for solo play, but T9/10 is made for teamplay. The whole game should be about teamplay, but at lower tiers noone expects it to work, not even WG. They even go so far as to say "T8 can't teamwork". So all is fine there. A cruiser by the way is only useful to make bombers miss - their AA dps is actually quite low. BBs have the huge AA dps that is needed to actually kill the planes. Winrate can't be anywhere as high as you say because if one CV wins a game, another CV just lost a game. So it MUST be 50% (if you add up all same tier CVs). Or you're using statistics that are over half a year outdated.
