TL;DR: CVs are NOT too weak right now, they are just stupid to play because half of the ships have immunity to you. If skilled you can still wreck stuff, just like in BBs. The gameplay is so unappealing though that why would even a hardcore CV player bother with the class? When CVs were "too strong" it was at least WORTH IT - because it was stupid to play, but effective. Now it's just stupid to play. Hahahahahaha. I think I had to get drunk to understand the low level some people argue on here. To whoever thinks we CV players want nothing but our class to be OP - I moved on from the boring crap that CVs have become and mainly play BBs now? Why? Because BBs are incredibly OP in the hands of a skilled player. Tirpitz with manual AA (T4) skill has Des Moines like AA (just with less range) on T8. You are a 70k HP destroyer that can oneshot cruisers left and right while driving straight towards 2-3 BBs and torping them, while they can do nothing but bounce AP on your armor or try to tickle you with HE that you just repair with your 5 repairs that each heal nearly 20k (with flag). Your counter? DDs? They rely on YOU BEING STUPID. They can't "outsmart" you. They can't "outskill" you mechanically. If you know how to play they won't hit more than 1-2 torpedos ever. Any situation were you cannot dodge you can avoid by being smart. So there is no danger for you at all. You are god and only your own mistakes can spell your doom. Other classes cry in the meantime. You turn as cruiser? Get a broadside tripple citadel oneshot - not because you dodged bad, but because the BB aimed well. You get spotted as DD? Eat a 8k AP salvo from a BB that wasn't even prepared and miss all your torpedos because torpedos hitting has nothing to do with aiming well, but with your enemies failing to dodge. My point is - I don't care for CVs being "too strong". In fact I'm genuinely interested in actual balance. Two things though: 1. WG doesn't care about balance. 2. The players cannot look at anything without bias. I myself am not able to remove all bias, but I play every class low to high tier and games are what I studied - so it's hard to get any closer. Balance brings no cash so WG gives no crap. Or rather they THINK it gives no cash. What WG doesn't realize is that if they spent some bucks to actually make the game more fun they could increase their playerbase by a factor of 4 - so even if they lost 30% revenue PER PLAYER due to less monetization focus - they would still overall make a huge profit just because they have more players. I love to take LoL (League of Legends) as comparison. LoL has 80 million players, so basically 40-100 times what WoWs (World of Warships) has. And how many paying users do they have? 5%. That's laughable compared to other games. They have the friendliest monetisation ever seen and it works because they have so many players. And why does this MOBA with basically just one gamemode that has not changed since years have so many players? It's because LoL is geniunely fun - intrinsicially. No points, achievements, tiers, rewards or whatever required. The fun is in playing it alone. WoWs? Without ship grinding, the over-the-top details for every ship and general graphics and other extrinsic motivators it would have died already, not even a year after release. I mean, at release it had 40k online users at most times and now it's around 15-20k at best. While that's not uncommon (look at WoW (World of Warcraft) addon releases) losing half your players so fast isn't good and it's not going to get better. While we are at it - WoW gets updated frequently, bringing MILLIONS of players back. WoWs does not get the same kind of updates. Yes there is a new ship tree but that's essentially just a copy-paste of what is already there with slightly different gameplay. If WoW gets an update EVERY class is completely new again, the whole environment, PvP, PvE, everything feels fresh. A new ship tree in WoWs does little to break things up. So what do they need to do? Make the game intrinsically fun. The groundworks are there, but they don't invest in it. They rather try to build more and more stories on that house standing on sand instead of patching the fundament up and making it something that's so solid it doesn't matter what they throw ontop of it. Once it all comes crashing down on them they might see their mistakes. Sadly at that point it won't matter because we won't have a game anymore. I don't want that. While I sound so deliberately pessimistic here I wish I could be optimistic, but I just can't with what I'm seeing and what I saw the last year. There are glimmers of hope like the Saipan, but then there is smashing downfalls like the alpha UI. Functional, but crap. No kidding bros. Play CV at a high level and you will see the obvious shortcomings. Even Indie games made by A SINGLE FREAKING PERSON have better more intuitive UI. That single person is usually a programmer too, so they generally aren't very good at game design, much less interface design. Yet they manage to test their stuff and make it good. WG does not. Simple example - if you press alt you can place a drop zone. If you click on ANY UI ELEMENT with that drop zone it won't work. E.g. the chatbox cockblocks everything you want to do as CV. Even the DROP MARKING ITSELF BLOCKS YOUR CLICKS, WTF?!?!. So if you want to adjust a drop by a few meters only - YOU CAN'T, because the old drop zone UI element blocks you from clicking close to it. Is it so f**king hard to make your alt-click just bypass whateverthefuck is in the way? Yes apparently it is, because since alpha this wasn't improved in the slightest and it was mentioned sooooo many times.

-> Insanely long CD attacks with high impact -> Free to choose target, downside is attack can be negated by AA and consumables -> Weak against groups, strong against solo ships -> Safe from most attacks due to distance, downside longer CD on attacks and unable to cap points, also incredibly easy to kill, defenseless and fire disables all offense Already the case. Just you're not free to choose targets anymore and you can't attack solo ships either. All cruisers are immune, most BBs are too, making you a DD hunting class. Which sucks [edited], because it's boring as hell and also pretty dumb if there are no or little DDs. Generally it's dumb some ships simply get a "you are immune to CVs if you aren't a complete idiot"-card.

Yes but some unique rewards are given away only to those who spend excessive amounts of time in the game. I think they should get rewarded by being able to buy more of the treasures and maybe even get some less unique things e.g. unlocking 1 week of premium at 1100 diamonds. But just to get some camos you need to play already a ton. -
Imagine Shimas had 15km concealment and torps would be visible when fired until they timed out. Would it still be hard then? That's the case if a CV is in game. Thank god managing 8 squads is easy and WG supports your "struggle" playing the easiest ship by far in the game with constant UI improvements, bugfixes and the occasional buff to your effectiveness. They were also so nice to make it really difficult to counter you, so good players that know how to play can ruin your day and bad players cannot. /sarcasm off

So, this is how Wargaming is playing with us

I think that's less because of the Yubari and more because of the most broken OP ship in the game that topped even Midway to it's prime in winrate (and still does). -

What I find ridiculous is that WG expects you to play 500 games in a month. That's more than 15 games a day and 15 games would already take 2 hours at least, more realistically 3 hours. I still have some records in this game, so noone can really say I'm just a really casual player. But I'm struggling to even get 200 games. If they already do stupid grind events, at least don't make the grinds this exhausting. One should add that nothing can make me play a game except if I really want to. (Or if I get paid for it... but not like 50 bucks of prem stuff for 100 hours). -

I know. WG is only aiming for that. The amount of WoT and WoWs posters at gamescon in Köln (Cologne) last year during open beta was insane. No other game had nearly as much presence there. Obviously those are aimed at new players. The thing is that companies give zero craps about their current playerbase. Lifetime and average revenue per user are the only things that matter. WG doesn't even care about stickyness apparently (how often players come online in a month). Since the average lifetime of WoWs isn't bad, you just keep shoveling new players into the game. Sometimes an event to make people come back to extend the lifetime a bit. Player retention is so underrated. -
It's easy to avoid being part of BB mafia. Someone who wants to see the game in an actual good state: Oh, we have too many DDs and thus torpedos at high tier? CVs nearly died out at high tier, because WG overnerfed them and overbuffed AA? Hm, maybe give CVs some interface improvements that they need since F*CKING ALPHA, make their gameplay better and maybe also nerf the worst offenders in the AA horror show maybe? Looking at "I'm a lone and dumb potato and can't press A/D, yet I'm still invulnerable to planes"-US BBs and the zero-counterplay zero-interaction zero-skill zero-fun cruiser consumable. And maybe buff cruisers abilities against DDs like radar. BB Mafia: Too many DDs and torpedos? Nerf DDs and torpedos until nothing can stop a BB from owning everything anymore. Buff the counter to DDs? Cruisers and CVs? Never! Just keep nerfing DDs until useless.

I see a lot more whining about DDs than about anything else really. Given the amount of destroyers per game it's not surprising. What is surprising is how there is so much whining about CVs with so few CVs around. On the other hand... probably from T4-5 players who don't know how to dodge and don't understand that if their AA would shoot down stuff the CVs would be out of planes after 5 minutes. Oh well, sad that cruisers don't start whining about getting oneshot. Would maybe finally see some BB nerfs across the board. Which didn't happen at all in the history of this game. They only buffed them across the board with the rudder shift change. Funnily enough, one thread per day at least about cruiser HE spam. One can only hope...

The whole event is just a boring mindless grind. Don't get me wrong, I rather have this than no event at all, but... the event is just there to make people play. Every Event is basically. That's fine and I'm glad WG even does it. But some companies try to make it fun, make it something that you as a player gain something from that isn't just premium stuff for free, but actually fun new challenges. Especially from this event I expected a new game mode "Grand Naval Battles" that is nothing but just plain normal random battles, with merely a few ships more per side. Maybe some alpha-state weather effects thrown in. It doesn't matter, but something different at least. What it essential was however - just plain old WoWs without ANYTHING new. You merely get arbitrary rewards for playing a lot - generally speaking. None of the requirements was so special that you even had to go out of your way for it. I guess 25 carrier kills was quite the adevnture for a lot of people, given how low the playerbase is and how low the general willingness to even touch CVs is. For me it is pretty simple. If a game ain't fun, I don't play it. Doesn't matter if I hold some world record in it or I can get 50€ of Prem stuff for free. That's why I never got anything in these events but the ARP Kongo, because there was just nothing fun about it. A new game mode would be fun, regardless if it was balanced. Novelty is a motivator, not even a bad one at that. These events are zero-effort and you feel it, because it's nothing but "play normal WoWs, simply get some free stuff if you spend a ton of time in the game". Yeah well, without any motivation but "some free stuff" I'm not gonna spend that much time in the game. "Some free stuff" makes me maybe play 1-2 games extra per day, if at all. It's sad that it is that way, especially since you could make so much happen with so little effort. But "little effort" is already too expensive for billionaire WG boss. -
CVs nerfed 50 million times since Open Beta. DDs nerfed again too. What's stopping BBs then? Nothing, so why not play them and wreck everything since your counters are so inefficient?
-
Generally good, but the damage detail section is a formating disaster. Before it was very clear how many fires you caused and how much damage they did. The stupid 5/2394 format is just confusing. Instead they should make two columns "hits" and "damage". 20 | 40355 3 ..| 2545 like that.
-
Oh we saw that, but it was discussed in the patch 0.5.6 thread instead. Also just as Ishiro and me said, patch changed nothing, because no-fly zones are still no-fly zones and rest is as usual. DD hunting all day. First game I played today was great to show just how pointless this change was in terms of good players. But I'm pretty sure they killed off CVs for most players, since most players are average. Damage is low because I wasted 3 strikes killing DDs, one that missed. Sad that WG doesn't make damage to destroyers count more on the actual number as well. At least you get the same reward for killing a 15k hp destroyer and a 80k hp battleship... and you win more games of course.
-
Yeah, but without individual rewards there is little reason to spot. Yes you MIGHT win because of that, but it won't give you anything on it's own. You will only spot if it is for free basically, if you don't have anything else to do and get not even the slightest disadvantage out of spotting. And without individual rewards for spotting there is no way to push any role more towards it, without screwing that role over completely.
-
I'll make this real simple for you guys who think spotting is a viable playstyle. Winning = 1.5x XP Spotting = 0XP 1.5*0=0 Math But yeah, for people who dont play CV it's great. If you got the spotting CV you get 50% bonus XP, just the CV who got you that win gets nothing. I would like that when I'm in my BB.
-
CVs will and cannot support until support provides rewards. Plane kill bounty is pathetic Spotting gives zero You can't cap as CV Cap reset reward is rather pathetic, plus with 3-5min CD on attacks you suck at it as CV (upside is you have unlimited reach).
-
Oh freaking good, not even a choice then. How dumb is WG exactly?
-
You make it sound like USN BBs sacrifice something worthwhile for AA, but they don't. A bit range on the secondaries and that's it. Even in the current meta where CVs don't exist most BBs are specced for AA, simply because it gives such a huge bonus when there actually is a CV and you don't have to sacrifice anything to get it. It's the same with cruisers always carrying AA consumable. The radar is just crap so sacrificing it doesn't hurt at all. And USN cannot have "immunity to planes" as nation characteristic. If that's the case I want 200% increased dispersion for shells fired from BBs at my CV.

Was that from my thread Ishiro? Oh yeah, found it: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/37037-aa-is-unfixable-right-now/#topmost For those too lazy to open a new tab: So yeah, we were at "medium AA" back then, making everyone a bit upset. Now we are at strong AA or beyond it. I hope that makes people understand why we CVs are upset that AA is getting buffed EVEN FURTHER into the idiotic zone.
-
Eh, I'll enjoy the pink color after the few games where there are actually two CVs per team and my teammate actually has fighters. Pink planes just look so "special".
-
We've been asking for some very easy and basic UI improvements since alpha. Nothing changed, interface is still alpha. You see how high carrier priority is in development when not even some UI elements can be made click-through while holding ALT for a whole year. Expect more nerfs in future patches. Maybe they will buff torpedo speed by 1-2 knts in a year to compensate.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Syrchalis replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Mhm, beat ya by 20.000 damage, but well - you had the caps and I couldn't cap, stay alive, run from HE spamming St Louis/Clemson, fight you and kill the Kongo across the map at the same time. ^^ Man, if I had survived that woulda been easy repair flags =( -

Syrchalis replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Just met Trigger_Happy_Dad in his New York. My team failed pretty darn hard, and me getting Kraken in my Kongo didn't help at all. We both died in a 1km standoff killing each other at the same time, then his team won. Was a good game though, 300.000 credits, 10 +50% EXP Flags and 20 other flags. -
They could do that, no problem. You wouldn't ever get a match with 3 CVs per side above T4/5 anyway, so barely anyone would notice. Wait, so you're saying balance is fine, but you're giving up CVs because it's so frustrating to play? Mhm, maybe it's related?
