I just realised one torp salvo can Kill a BB in one go....
Sub_Eleven replied to Humbug_1's topic in General Discussion
Maybe you should play destroyer for a bit, you know, to see what makes em tick? Like Sun Tzu's know your enemy? I mean, wow knockout a battleship in one go, everyone must want a piece of that pie! -
It might not be so clear from the map screenshot, but the last 3 enemys are obstructed from view, and didn't really got into the fight till the first 2 were dead. As you can see from the range indicators, even the cruiser behind me who was catching up, was in firing range of the enemy group. It's not like we expected the bb's to go in head first. In that game I supported our dd at point B in the start, which is the only reason I'm not in front of the bb's. This is just one brief example, I know playing a battleship is alot harder then it looks. But in this case if they pushed on, they would have been quite save. In the end it didn't matter much, as the destroyer really went to town on the enmy bb's.
-
Perfect example: The 3 battleships saw red dots and suddenly had a change of heart. As you can see they are perfectly flanked and protected against destroyers. Our friendly destroyer had just launched a spread on one of the enemy bb's crippling it. We are up against 3 cruisers and 3 battleships in that corner but are shielded from the ones in the back by the island. battleships went into pro park sniper mode and left the heavy lifting to our destroyer (who played very, very, well and ended up with 4 kills) and the cruisers. They only advanced when we left em derping in a circle and the enemy was sunk. I think not a single battleship was hit by torpedos but im not 100% sure.

Yeap... Its derp train sometimes, doing everything possible not to get shot at and let their cruisers get ripped apart. I mainly play cruisers for now, and I always try to flank and support the lumbering beasts. Buuuuut if I see them hugging the damn map edge when I already screaned everything in front I'll abandon em and just accept a loss and go work on my own score. This and the lone rambo-ing loses so many games, but its not just the battleships. This game im on my nicholas doing daily, and because enemy has 3 dd's I can take on very easily, ive decided to block the channel in the middle. To my surprise the cruisers left the bb and went for the channel. First one actually get through before getting wrecked, and managed do make a kill I think. Second one turned aroud after. Note the battleship in the east happily "roaming the seas". Needless to say it got torped by 2 of the enemy destroyers who went down east side of the map. Don't have any good screens from bb's derping in a corner but will make some this evening. PS: we won that map as the 2nd cruiser helped me defend the cap vs the 2 destroyers and a lone enemy battleship.

I need some tips on playing US DD's please.
Sub_Eleven replied to MYXU_U_KATJIETbl's topic in Destroyers
All you need to do is stick on their [edited]and shoot em to bits. On my Nicholas they wont get the chance to torp, as it's just so fast it's easy to keep yourself behind em. You might take some return fire but from IJN dd, nothing to get worried about. In USN vs USN "dogfights" I like to use wide spread torps as an area denial weapon. Close range only though, don't do it at 3k range or up as its to easy to dodge then. -
You are not alone with the memory thing, I had post-its everywhere aswell! For some reason some things take a long time to memorize while others are sunk (get it, sunk?!?!) in, in 20 minutes. I LOVE torp alley though, in most cases atleast. No point going inthere if you don't get any support, but if you do you can force the enemy to dedicate more forces there, or push through and threaten their carrier ('s) or backline. It's a difficult map though, and I know I suicided in there, like the first 20 times. But if you know all the tricks, and have a cruiser on standby to shoot anything you light up, its great fun.

Skill comes for a large part from experience, something the majority of players just dont have yet. Then you have people who have more talent, who learn faster or slower, only care about the win or their personal score regardless of team succes or failure. Simply measuring "stats" to determine skill level for match ups is bound to fail, there is not enouch data and to many variables. If you happen to be in a derp squad, just suck it up and do the best you can, maybe try communicate or explain things so people get better.

Only played on tier 6 myself and my play style could be "off", I don't know. But I found myself forced to rely more on ambushes, surprise attacks and point blank range fire to be able to sink the good players. Concealment shooting just doesn't pay off for me most of the times. Could be better at T9 with bigger spreads, but I doubt it. Still, torpedo reload is a huge issue the higher you go in my opinion.
-
It is. Press the alt key to see the duration left. If its short, its not wort it to repair. If you have like a 2 minute flooding timer then yeah, you might want to fix it asap.
-
Remember cruisers can dodge all torps pretty easily, unless fired from point blank range. And trust me, dd's do not like to go point blank range with cruisers unless its from an ambush position. In fairly open water I go straight for em, shifting course every 5 seconds. At this point they have 2 options: 1) die 2) try to make a break for it I'm very aggresive when playing dd defense. It does help that cruisers get underestimated and alot of dd captains feel invincible clubbing seals, till they meet people who can actually use their ship right. Im not saying go rambo on em every time you see one, but if you know what you are doing, destroyers can hardly touch you on a cruiser.
-
Except that in open beta the reload times go of the hook, and you have to wait 2 minutes between every salvo. Meanwhile your foes actually DO get bigger and badder so to speak.

Just me or steering damage increase on cruisers?
Sub_Eleven replied to LMN118's topic in General Discussion
It's module damage. Modules can now be blown up by near misses from HE shots. There are alot of threads about it, and if you think your cruiser has it bad, try play a destroyer. -
Well, I've played destoyer exclusivly till I dropped em in favor of cruisers due to the issues with destroyers in higher tiers. I've sank ALOT of battleships, and once in a blue moon you actually see someone who can play his ship right, But sadly, that is not the norm. I use my dd experience to keep my own bb's save (from their own shortcoming, fails and enemy torps). Any class can be badly played, lots of cruisers think its a solo race to the other side of the map for example. Ah ok... That seems kinda odd? Thought it was a weird question to start with,as it wasnt really hidden or anything, woops

AI really bad in this game: much fluctuation
Sub_Eleven replied to Soulblight's topic in General Discussion
I think the bots were only intended as a stepping stone into random battles vs other players. So yeah they probably aren't very good. -

Can't say for planes as I never played, nor will I ever intend to play a carrier. But yes for destroyers the list is correct. The ships that are listed twice have "upgrades" for the torpedo launchers which modify the values. Note that "upgrades" don't necesarily mean better. Now I think of it, torpedo bomber planes dropped torps detect range is kinda moot. A good CV driver will always manually drop em anyway, and if you wait till you can see em you are dead anyway. Start turning when the planes are coming in.
-
It has a very big impact on the game already. Check the number of dd's the next time you are in queue, notice anything odd? No it does not. It makes a broken game mechanice that should be fixed in the first place, "kinda bearable". On top of that, you can't get it early on, so the point is moot for the most part. There are loads other threads about this topic, this being the most recent one: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/20093-please-fix-engine-and-rudder-damage-on-dds/

Yes I realise that, but I never said I was camping one ship, not sure why you would think that? For the record, my cruisers are at T4 so the AA isn't very effective its mostly dd defense. I'm sure you know how "skillled" your average BB driver is? Putting myself between our bb's and the enemy i will spot torps / dd's and can actually blow em up pretty effectivly, keeping my bb's alive to actually do something before they eat 5 torps. You are right that this is pointless if there is only a marginal threat, and you shouldn't do it then obviously. Its not like you are glued to one spot on the map and all.
-
Never played tank game so can't compare the two, but, i LOVE supporting my team by doing escorts, babysit carriers if nobody is going to. Though it is often battleships who make mistakes they can't recover from (and lose you the game in the progress), it's not their fault entirely. But yes, if the ships you escort go derp mode just leave em to their own deaths. Heres the thing; you can play for the team, or you can play to get as much exp as possible. Its a different attitude and mindset I would say. I'd rather take less exp and help my team win, then get 6 easy kills and let my team get steamrolled resulting in a loss. There is no wrong in either, just play how you like.

No problem, enjoy the game!

This game is fun, but I lose too often
Sub_Eleven replied to Admiral_Noif's topic in General Discussion
It's the nature of random battles, and as Coke said: to small number to have any vallue. You are still learning the game, dont stare yourself blind on winrate or other statistics. Try to have fun, and get a feel for what classes you might like to play and which not.Its still in touchy feely stages so dont worry to much about it. Also, best player in the world can get screwed over by lacking team mates ;) -
Seems like a video driver issue. If i remember correctly you have to "tell" your video card to let the game make decisions. See this thread for more information: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/18453-i-cant-see-anything/page__p__334714#entry334714 Hope that fixes it!

Didn't know there was something wrong with it? Just came out a game and i could chat just fine?

Do not fire HE shells on anything except destroyers. Because: You will do more damage with AP if you hit those citadels. Setting fires is NOT a battleships job. (someone in my last game said he was told to swap to HE when fireing under 10k, dont, just dont please) I was expecting a bit more response from the overwhelming number of battleship drivers? Help your fellow battleship captains out and maybe teach others some things you've learned?
