Hai! I'm a newb who started in open beta. I played destroyers. Alot. I can also use the bloody search function. Why is it so hard to reserve judgement till you know what you are talking about? The people who generally make these silly threads didn't even bother to TRY to understand. So yeah, after 17 threads a day, the general reception might be a bit "cold". p.s. more pics needed

Humor us: do a search on "torpedo" yeah.... Also, I find the ammount of funny pic's lacking, nerf?!?!?!

True. But maps load randomly so you don't know what you gonna get. Ocean is the *only* map where it *could* be benificial to have longer range. Not gonna slot em in for that very small chance, and then be screwed in the rest of the maps.

Neeeeeeeeeeeeeext!

It is you. Ok i've counted to 100. Concealment is like compensation for zero armor and very little health. Geting killed in a destroyer is easy enough as it is. Let's not get into module damage or torpedo damage right now....

It is highly personal. But in my opinion you are selling some classes a bit short. Cruisers can be very effctive at high tiers, even if you don't want to be pushed into the AA role. BB's can have a very big impact on a match, but yes they are slow in low tiers and are hard to play well. USN dd's do play very different then the IJN ones, but I did enjoy them aswell. Playing more ambush role and being very cocky shooting your guns at targets to get some fires going (even if I didn't torp em, scares the hell out of em and they often break away to dodge non existent torps, lol!). This will get you killed sometimes though but I had fun doing it. Carriers are an aquired taste I guess, don't like it myself but they can be very effective. As for higher tier destroyers, I've put em on hold for a while at tier 6 till it's more clear what wargaming wants with em. Personally I didn't enjoy myself playing farragut or mutsuki, and the grind to tier 7 is alot larger then it was from 5 to 6. Me not having a premium account or other xp booster thinghy's didn't help though, as it takes me waaaaay more battles to unlock stuff. So it's up to you to decide if you want to give it a go and see how far you can get, or stay at tier 5 ish with decent ships. Hope this helps.

What part of learn to dodge didn't you understand? You're a cruiser, not a carrier -.-
-
Don't need too perse. Haven't played a single game on BB or CV, and that's not gonna change. But I still know how they play because I sank hundreds of em on my destroyers. The essential ones to play are cruiser and destroyer, in that order aswell in my opinion.

Didn't notice anything different with steering or mobility on minekaze today or past few days.
-
Join the club, I've moved to cruisers because of it (well, and silly lack of progression). Played destroyers for 400+ matches, kinda done with em apart from daily's / occasional seal club session. Don't care if they fix it or not, they will run out of destroyer players eventually at this rate.

Never played the tank game so not sure what a light tank does. (Why does everyone need to make this abstract comparison btw??) Anywho, basicly what Seinta said, start with cruisers to learn how to shoot stuff and all that jazz, then get some destroyer action till you know how not to teamkill stuff and how to avoid torpedoes. Warning, destroyers have a steep learning curve, be prepared for some frustration along the way. Pick whatever you like after that, but I'd consider the above steps essential for your further enjoyment of the game.

Hi there and welcome to the forums! I would stick with cruisers till you get the japanese Kuma tier 4 cruiser, which is very very good. The american phoenix is alright aswell I guess, but I liked the kuma much better <3 Use the cruisers to learn how to aim and shoot quick and accurate. The high rate of fire helps alot when figuring out how to aim and at what ranges. If you enjoy destroyers play try the japanese ones aswell, its much more forgiving then the USN ones and plays a bit different. It can be funny to torp new battleship commanders over and over again, just saty away from cruisers though, they will rip you apart. If still interested in battleships pick it up after you dabbled some with cruisers and destroyers first, as it can be quite hard to get used to battleship play. Whatever you do, hope you have as much fun as I do

It's personal, but I prefer the fast ones. As if im gonna launch from 10k, whahahahahaha yeah not gonna happen -.-

Unless you can't find the fire button, or if you have a compulsion to beach yourself on every island you find, a cruiser will wreck any destroyer they will find. If you get sunk by torps fired from concealment when playing a cruiser, you need a serious gameplay adjustment. I'm not to good at aiming, but even I cant miss a dd under 5k range with atleast some shots. You must be playing blindfolded when you get blown up by a dd in a ca. Exception rule for furutaka as its turrets are simply to slow and ship isn't to great in general.

I expected to see monkey's. I didn't. I was disapointed. To prevent this from happening in the future:

I just got fury taco. So the nightmare continues in the ship after that Q.Q -
Press [tab] for a player list, or [alt] for more information on targets like name, ship, distance. Should work in map view aswell.

Battleships are the worst equiped ships to fight destroyers. Their big guns are very very slow and highly in-accurate on a small target, such as a destroyer. This is why you want cruisers or destroyers covering your butt, as they can actually hit em. As other pointed out, there already is. If you are really fair, and think back to that moment, are you 100% sure it just appeared out of thin air? The answer is no. The shortest distance away a destoryer can pop up is 5.5k (maybe not even that but lets say 5.5k for arguments sake) It's more likely you didn't notice it untill it was already to late. Playing destroyers for a bit is always always always a good idea. It's easyer to understand how something works by playing it yourself. I'm afraid you'll might be in for a surprise though, as destroyers aren't OP like every average battleship driver tries to make em out to be. Module damage is the main culprit, but on higher tiers reload speed, plane spotting and lack of damage / progress in general really take the fun out of playing destroyers. Want to hunt down destroyers? Get a cruiser with a high rate of fire and decent mobility, and aim for their butt. All you have to do, is knock out rudder or engine two times and they are done. For me this is easyest when using ripple fire as im not really great at aiming for some reason. There are some other "interesting" threads about torpedos and destroyers in general, some are a great laugh aswell.

If that actually works against you, then you are a seal, and you deserve to be clubbed. Change your course more often, Specially after 2 minutes in the fight when it's very likely enemy dd's are in position to intercept you. Let your cruisers or dd's flank you, to spot dd's and torps. You are not supposed to go toe to toe versus a destroyer. Even if you are good in a bb, your chances of survival are less then 20% in a 1 vs 1.
-
I just realised one torp salvo can Kill a BB in one go....

I see alot of opinions, and alot of people who haven't really played a destroyer at all. The best advice I can give you, is to play one. Take both the IJN and the USN ones up to tier 4, which is fairly easy to do, and doesn't require alot of xp. Yes, you will die horribly the first 20 games, its a steep learnign curve. But when you get past that you might get a feel for them and realise that they don't have magical properties or homing cruise missiles. You will learn the best attack angles (90 degrees or from the front) and ambush spots. Use that knowledge to help you play other ships more effectivly. And suddenly you notice you haven't eaten torps in a while, because you learned how to deal with em. Trust me, it's not very hard. -
I'm having a deja vu....Oh wait! http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/20538-torpedos-are-completely-ridiculous/ Or read any of the other 37 threads similar to yours. It's a learn to play issue. Don't base your assumptions on tier 3 battleships. Play some more, experiment, try other classes, come back when things haven't improved.
