Oh snap! Burn! (pun intended)
-
Which is not that impressive if its tier 6 planes. Kudos if you downed tier 10 ones. Stick with B hull. If you want to shoot down planes in a dd get the Fletcher, it doesn't sacrifice a gun for its AA consumable.
-
Why not just use your guns vs other dd's? I think the 8km torps won't give you a whole lot of options and the 12 km ones are better overall in most situations.

I like the Indi, it's a decent captain trainer and at tier 7 her mm isn't as brutal as some of the tier 8's. If you like some of the other USN ships it's a good buy. I do think the MK and Atago are better ships tough, but they are a bit more expensive. If that's not a problem I'd pick the Kutuzov over the Indianapolis (I have both, just like the MK more).

Skip AFT on USN destroyers past the Nicholas. As people already explained the shell arcs are abysmal past 12km ish range so it's a waste of a skill. DE is a good choice for the mid tiers and I would swap to SE from the Benson till the Gearing.

Thanks to the power creep that holds true for every USN cruiser starting from tier 7. If you want to BBQ stuff, go with IJN. Even the Kuma with DE is hilarious.

New Orleans - need advice with this ugly duckling
Sub_Eleven replied to GulvkluderGuld's topic in Cruisers
New Orleans is gorgeous but her dpm is lacking a bit. best advice I can give you, is try to get your captain up to 15 points as soon as you can. The difference between 10.8 and 9.5 km detection range is considerable and will make your life much much easyer. If you happen to have a USN premium ship (I used the Indianapolis) level the captain on that first, it will save you some headaches. -
Your mileage may vary. Maybe they are less painful with the last couple of changes, but those two are the only ships in the line I did not enjoy.

My ears are bleeding... Expected 20 downed T10 planes but it's just seal clubbing poor T8 planes, with a lot of random HE spam (no SE, seriously??). Oh and noise, lots and lots of noise.

Lo Yang is a knife fighter, just like the Benson. Difference is it has 4 guns and sonar as opposed to 5 guns and no sonar. Since it's in the pan asia tech tree, captain leveling is pretty much out of the window. If you don't care about crew training, or just don't want to go through the horrible grind called Farragut and Mahan, then it just might be the ship for you. On the other hand, the Benson leads to the glorious Fletcher. *If* you are willing to drop some money, you could consider free xp ing part of the USN destroyer line to get the Benson (and the Fletcher and possibly the Gearing after that). If you are interested in captain training another option is to get the permanent camouflage for the Fletcher (costs 4000 doubloons though, ouch). Since it's a very strong ship in her bracket she's great for captain traing.

Doesn't the montana have the all or nothing armour scheme, like the other USN battleboats? If so, should be able to easily penetrate the bow or stern armour for big numbers?
-
Is it worth spotting as a DD?
Sub_Eleven replied to Dirty_Filthy_Scrublord's topic in General Discussion
Instances where I would hold fire to just spot is with Zao's and Kababs. They tend to shred my Benson and Fletcher. Other then that everything is fair game, keep those shells flying. -
What to choose (Atlanta, Kutuzov, Tirpitz)?
Sub_Eleven replied to TerTerro's topic in General Discussion
Tirpitz is easyest to do well in, since it's a battleboat. Would advice against the atlanta, even with the new radar its still a niche ship, only good at a very specific task. MK is a good ship but difficult to play, its completely different from the atago. Can't really take point with her as she's a light cruiser with hardly any armour. Guns are fantastic though. -
Give my MK dat smoke plz
-
I'll just quote myself from the questions of the community thread:
-
The smoke radius does seem a bit excessive and way to long duration on it. Other then that, it's still basicly an atlanta. Nice when top tier, but gonna have a very hard time vs tier 8 and 9's.
-
Exacttly. Sticking your head in the sand or whishfull thinking does not magically make the USN cruiser line better.
-
Well it's true that the MK is a difficult ship, but it's not a bad ship. It's borderline OP actually. The guns are amazing with 19 km + range, 950m/s shell flight travel time and very, very flat arcs. Her AP has no trouble piercing Yamato's superstructure around 10 km distance when it's broadside on, allowing for 5k+ volleys on a tier 10 ship. Ignoring a Kutuzov is just begging to get wrecked. Rubbish? I don't think so. Maybe give her another chance, I think you are being a bit too harsh on her.
-
Yup had this yesterday in the MK, took a torpedo which knocked out my rudder, instantly repaired and started backing up. To my surprise I backed up in a turn and I was still flooding. Never noticed anything like that prior to 0.5.9

Kills don't mean jack crap, so don't worry bout em.

Why there is are very few high tir CVs
Sub_Eleven replied to Spellfire40's topic in General Discussion
Haven't played a single carrier game (in about 3000 ish matches) and that's not gonna change ever. -
That. Visible New Orleans is a dead New Orleans. Stock she's quite horrible, upgraded with 9.5 km concealment shes much easyer to play.
-
It's time to lower chance to catch on fire by 60%

My stock Gearing is gonna be a happy panda. Port slots are also very welcome, thx wargaming!

I dare the OP to play the New Orleans, should be funny
