  1. +1 to this I think it would make a lot of sense especially since (imo) different classes of ships will do better on specific maps and will be almost useless on others.

My experience as a new player

I wrongly posted the topic under the General discussion forum and it was moved to the OBT feedback forum instead, so that was my bad. Thanks for the responses everyone, I didn't know about the possible change that Ishiro32 mentioned so looking forward to seeing any improvements on this side

My experience as a new player

Hello everyone, So I have put some hours into the game, got to Tier VII in USN Battleships and Cruisers and played some destroyers as well. I haven't tried playing carriers though, their gameplay just doesn't interest me. I thought I'd share my impressions about the game in general as well as some possible issues that I think could be improved before the game launches. Keep in mind that I only started playing in the OBT so I didn't get the chance to get to very high tier ships and so don't have the same experience as some of the pros out there. That being said, I do enjoy the game quite a lot. I think there are enough mechanics to keep you interested in learning ships and progressing and the overall balance (eventhough MM often kills it) seems to be, let's say decent... it certainly isn't game breaking. Some ships might need some buffs or nerfs here and there but I'm sure (I hope) it'll be fine once the game releases. However I do think there are some aspects that are close to game breaking, or at least very badly implemented. Fires This is mostly an issue with Battleships but also high tier cruisers. The fact that fires can remove half or even 3/4 of a BB's health is way too much. I personally don't see why fires need to be so frequent and can do so much damage to a ship when HE is already doing substantial amount of damage, reliably, as well as destroying gun turrets, engines, etc... the added fires that it sets just seem too much. In my opinion fires should either do way less damage over time, or have a much lower chance of starting, these boats aren't forests after all. There has been some excellent suggestions about this already I think, so hopefully it's something WG is looking at playing with. Carriers So obviously I haven't played carriers and as such my view might be a bit biased. My experience against them is that they're able to drop torpedoes way too close to enemy ships, which makes it basically impossible to avoid. The AA on cruisers helps but it seems that if a carrier is 2 tiers or even 1 tier higher than the cruiser, the AA really doesn't do a whole lot. I mean you'd think that a small squadron of warplanes would be a bit shaken when a giant ship fires ton of AA fire at them, but more often than not I've seen them just continue in a straight line and drop their torps 100m next to the the ship. What I'd suggest here is to make it so that the spread of torpedoes, or also bombs, increases the closer you get to the ship firing AA, no matter how good his AA is (to a certain extent), so kinda like supression. This would make torpedo bombing much closer to what destroyers have to do, that is firing their torps far away and guessing where the enemy will be. The only difference good or bad AA would have, is the amount of planes it'd be able to kill. Economy Slowly getting to higher tiers, I have the feeling the repair costs get insanely high and so it gets very tedious to gain money. This is for me the biggest issue, not because you almost have to pay to progress further without it taking months, but because it seems to kill the gameplay in high tier games. Players seem to be afraid to push forward and seem to run away as soon as they get hit, to try and keep the repair costs low. It's something I never seem to see in lower tier games, until tier 5 or so, everyone is going for the flags or the enemy cap, while in tier 7 or higher more and more players tend to go on the edges or just far from everyone. It kills teamplay. One way this could be changed is to simply have the repair costs halved if your team wins, or some other mechanic that promotes teamplay more, as I feel it is lacking when you get to higher tiers. That's it, as I said I'm having a lot of fun with the game and I can see it being an amazing game if they polish it well enough. Hopefully that wasn't too long and I'd really be interested to hear what others think about this or if they feel I just need to "l2p the game noob". See you on the seas.
