When you consider them weak, then they are not strong players (successful). Weak players make mistakes, mistakes are opportunities to learn. This is known for a long time and is mentioned multiple times in this thread and has nothing to do with the MM Splitting up ships into subclasses and trying to balance them would naturally increase the waiting times. That is basic math. While some ships could be better balanced, ship balance is only a small problem compared to the differences in the playerbase

When you flank a cap, you are not cut off. And you should know better than to trust an outdated API. Not that my 1000+ Clan Battles were fought in bigger teams.

Flanking increases ones influence around caps. That is why one should do it.
