That is true. But not that bad. When a Taiho ends a game with 300 base XP, because he kept his planes around the spawn, waiting for the other cv to attack him. Never sending them out to spot or attack ships while an Iowa is AFK for 5 minutes (probably finishing his smoke, since the team does not really need him anyway) and two other BB go for the border instead of evading enemy towards the rest of the team, you know they are really bad.

If you cannot brake even with premium camo and premium, you are not good enough. Some people brake even with F2P at Tier VIII...

Jede Karte, jedes Schiffklasse, jedes Schiff ist anders. Da gibt es wenig allgemeine Tipps. Halte Deine Umgebung im Auge (Minimap). Nutze Inseln als Deckung. Bleib beim Team. Fokussiere das Missionsziel. Fokussiere Dein Feuer mit Deinem Team.

Select and go for other targets. Be aware that while the damage vs BB is lower, it is harder to repair for them. Select different ships for fire missions. There is reason you have more than one port slot.

Do not use free XP to unlock silver ships. It is better to save them. Use them only to get modules faster.
