You do need to use DD. Cruiser can block B better. And the statement about DD going through B was an answer to OPs A+C tactic. Nornally you would not do that.

Premium ships usually perform much better than silver ships (motivated players, more experienced players, no stock grind, high level captains). Just look at silver ships that are identical to premium ships as was the old Minekaze to Kamikaze and Fujin. And since the ships did not change since then, the data still counts: Bogue, König, Zuiho did (much) more damage. König, Zuiho had better WR. Still Minekaze got the hammer, not the other ships. It is mostly about WR, but can be applied to damage depending on ship type. Torpedoboats should do huge amounts of damage as their main targets are BBs (the ones with the huge HP pool). BBs main targets are cruisers. You would expect them to the slightly less damage if they were as efficient doing their job as do torpedoboats. As you see Minekaze was not very good at countering BB. Average damage was far from max HP of a single BB. Still she got high Kills/Battle which means she got kills with lower HP ships (mostly some unlucky DD, cruiser or low HP BB)

Look at BBs and CVs and remove the premium factor.

And still less average damage and WR than other "normal" performing ships.
