Sure do Fair, I've got a 17er, she gets fun at 14, well-playable at 10. And you can actually combine the first 10 with US destroyers, even completely if you dont want the AFT skill. Preventive (1) Last stand (2) BFT (3) Concealment (4) Demolition expert (3) Only after these 13 the differences start to arrise (in my setup), but by that time you can train up a second cap i guess.
-
No, as i said, someone might accidentally hit your torpedos with their ship. Thats a difference. But also; wouldnt you agree that both the Leningrad and the Mahan just outclass this ship? Sure it is usefull as gunnery trainer, but then again, the atlanta would classify for that aswell XD
-
Wait what, has a premium camo discount ever happened? :O ive missed that
-
Save em up for retraining, slots, special camouflage, or even the summer sales. In the summer sales 3k may get you a 6k ship- if they still do in-game discounts.
-
I can sort of agree with the tier 8 premium thingy for your first premiums. On the sims: This things torpedos are nicknamed "floating sea mines". Not due to their power, thats more of a dolfin ramming into your bow, but since the chances of a ship sailing into your torpedo are larger than the other way around. The guns are okay, but not much more than tha (leningrad outclasses him and so does the regular US tech tree Mahan). It probably can be a fun ship, but there really are better ones out there....
-
If you like US destroyers do NOT take the Sims. A friend of mine bought it, but hasnt played it ever since he got the mahan (and benson, fletcher and gearing). The leningrad is more fun, has way better torpedos, is faster, etc etc etc if youd want the sims i recommend saving that money for a permacamo on the fletcher- thats what i did
-
On the british: work up to minotaur & get premium camo Japanese: atago (i consider the asashio to be weak due to weird torpedos) French: Personally i think the french are too weird to take premiums for right now
-
It plays similar to other russian destroyers. A tad sluggish, but strong guns, fast, and it makes for a great knife fighter. In addition, it is the first russian destroyer that is able to drop torpedos beyond detection range & you got 2 quad (4tube) launchers, so that handles nicely. So basically: speed, guns, and its got workable torpedos. Plus good HP. Not the easiest destroyer to play perhaps, but its fun
-
Dont take the polish one, its a trap You see, you cant use it as a comm trainer. Go with the leningrad if youd seem to like the Blyska. Quite similar, but useful.
-
Well theres a couple of things here. 1. the atlanta is more of an oversized USN destroyer than it is a cruiser 2. it currently is for purchase, but it will be removed from sale soon 3. IT IS AN ULTRATROLL SHIP once you get used to it. Sure, it depends on style, but most premiums do- the tirpitz less though. IMO there are not many alternatives in store right now, maybe stuff like atago, leningrad etc. Btw: summer sales will probably kick in in about a month, you could also wait. I dont expect the atlanta or tirpitz to be on sale then though.
-
Tirpitz is funny but not amazingly differentiating from gneisenau/ bismarck. If you have a buck to spare and like a ship with a seperate playstyle i can recommend the atlanta, which is currently for purchase in shop. Amazing ship, not that expensive & really funny to play, plus you can use it for DD and cruiser training

Friendly heads up to WG about the Legendary upgrades for Midway and Hakuryuu
Isoruku_Yamamoto replied to OVanBruce's topic in General Discussion
OOh yeah thats true, anyway the dispersion nerf (effectively 15%) still means you'll die 8x more easily (as if that was necessary) & you lose 10% concealment as well, meaning you can no longer stealth drop, will need smokes more often etc. So okay, youd be more of a team player, in exchange you get the right to die more easily yourself.- 12 replies

Well okay, then at least that one goes into the 20% of trade-off upgrades. But i still say scrap this project and go for a specialised tier 10 slot with general trade offs rather than ship-specific, that cant work out well- 12 replies

I am far from unlocking the yueyang, but i also noticed that that ship is insanely buffed in the proposed tier X upgrades: - Sensibly you'd take radar indeed, since smokes are funny, but radar is more fun for that ship - The upgrade gives boost to main battery and torpedo reload - You'd get penalised on smoke screen stats, but if you dont take smoke screens it's a pure buff- which may be needed, but it underlines my point entirely. - If you'd take smoke screens, the smoke screens go from quite legendary to quite horrible, so wed go towards the extremely poor tradeoffs- comparable to midway. Not as bad as minotaurs, but still. This entire project should be scrapped, introduce class-specific tier X upgrades instead, with 2 or 3 options for each class.- 12 replies

Isoruku_Yamamoto replied to OVanBruce's topic in General Discussion
Nope, he actually has a point. In fact, most of the proposed tier 10 upgrades are pure garbage in my opinion. Around 10% of them is solid, then 20% can be okay if you like that play style and another 70% is pure crap. take the minotaur: -30% to smoke duration+300% to smoke emission time-10% to the maximum dispersion of enemy shells that fire on your ship This means you'll be an easier target the whole game (enemy gets pin point accuracy on you) while your smokescreens last shorter (not longer, shorter!). In exchange you can get to a hold a bit easier undetected, which you might as well do by getting smokescreen expert- which is a lot more efficient at that effect. You'll also be giving up something for this, not sure what, but it already is a pure downgrade even if itd have a seperate slot. On the other hand some ships get insane buffs, such as the hakuryu (+5% speed compared to the other upgrade). The worcester has a good trade off, which is considerably beneficial i guess: Worcester (Slot 5)+10% to duration of Surveillance Radar+20% to duration of Hydroacoustic Search+20% to duration of Defensive AA Fire-5% to detectability radius While youd sacrifice concealment (-10% detectability, +x% dispersion of shells fired at you). Then for the Z52, which is already quite good IMO: Z-52 (Slot 5)-5% to detectability radius-10% to torpedo reload time Okay, you sacrifice some detectability again, not a lot, but you get extra short torp reload. So the weird thing here is; the idea is that these upgrades are "no no brainer choices", but some of them are, some of them are straight downgrades, i'd rather have an empty slot than those " upgrades" and some are a bit in between. This will in effect simply cause some ships to get huge buffs, others have to stick to the old upgrades. So i say no to this whole idea, and the Hakuryu VS Midway is a very clear cut case of why. Dear devs; stop balancing in such retarded ways please. I like the game currently, but you're trying to make me stop liking it?- 12 replies

How is a Farragut supposed to do well in a T8 game?
Isoruku_Yamamoto replied to FearsomeFlotsam's topic in General Discussion
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this: - Farra faces other tier 6 destroyers in tier 6 matches - Amazing knive figher - Greatly rewards balls to the walls fighting, although you may die of course - Clemson-style playing is amazingly funny- you can blow up most tier 7s & damaged tier 8s with a well aimed 3km torp strike - Excellent smoke, you just have to watch out for hydro and radar, which is something you need to learn the hard way i guess. Please use "last known positions" to deal with this for 80% or more - In such a match you simply cant solo carry. Dont expect to go do so then. -
Do detonations now come in bulk and pre-determined?
Isoruku_Yamamoto replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
I've seen this peculiarity as well and when i observe the first detonation i make sure not to catch any detonation-causing hits in cruisers (my destroyers always have anti-det and battleships are less susceptible), but thats not completely fool proof & i have in fact been detonated by a single hit @ about 70% health once. so yeah, i have this suspicion too for a while now, especially reinforced by the low occurance of games with only 1 or 2 detonations -

Id say i agree with you then, they can be a little less deadly vs german battleships, but the versatility is good as it is- not too wide not too narrow. I agree that the APs shouldnt be a one trick pony, at first i was actually hesitant about the current ones because of this. Thanks for explaining also
-
Okay, i think we just have a different line of thought here- i may not fully understand you indeed. Im not sure exactly what you mean now, could you outline it for me? A. You want AP bombs to be effective against less different types of ships B. You want AP bombs to do less damage C. You suggest that we stop using the AP bombs (in combo with A and or B) and use HE bombs more often D. I still havent have no idea what youre talking about, in which case i really apologize XD. Would like to give an adequate response now, im not gonna let you down with a complete off topic response

......... But you didnt notice it was a tier 8 now, while you had been anticipating it to be tier 8? It doesnt make sense, cause you mustve caught something on the update, or you would have been grinding up. crap happens though, you still have XP saved up on your pensa now, so that you can unlock the Dallas when update 0.7.6 kicks in. Still, i suppose the topic might aswell be closed and/or removed.
-
XD well there we have it. Also, for further reference: the XP type you're referring to is called ship XP, as opposed to free XP, which is not bound to any ship and can be spent on anything you like. Close topic?

Well by god can you even imagine how much fun it is to delete a full HP battleship even without using torpedos? In addition; the dive bombers are actually much more versatile: they can attack most battleships well, a good number of cruisers and even some destroyers, although the latter is tricky. And they may inflict catastrophical damage to enemy carriers- if they have a nice armour scheme. Dont forget that along with AP bombs you'll always have 1 set of torpedos- even 2 if you're playing the midway. So why do we do it? Cause doing 70k damage with HE bombs is tricky, with AP it can be 1 well aimed / timed run.
-
Im not sure what gives you all the idea that cruisers catch better AP: its the deck armour that causes citadel hits or penetrations. I've had runs in my essex where ive deleted an Moskva without using my torpedo bombers, ive had runs on a GK doing the exact same thing. Most brutal hit so far: 12 citadels and 1 pen on a GK, total 97k dmg (all his HP). The key to making hard hits on a battleship really is to use manual drop and to make sure that you hit the center of the ship. In that way pretty much any battlehip will catch up to 30k per strike. For cruisers it's more likely you already do a manual drop, since the aiming reticle is larger than most cruisers (as opposed to being smaller than a GK or F der G). However, the added benefit for manual drops on battleships is insane- go ahead and test this in a training room. Try to kill 1 GK with manuals and 1 with autos and you'll find youre done 3x faster with the manuals. AP bombs also tend to be less predictable in damage to cruisers: i've had runs on cruisers for around 2k per drop (set of dive bombers), but i've also deleted a full HP ibuki once, where the japanese donnot tend to be my favourite targets for AP. But again; it's all in the deck armour & you gotta find out what works & what doesnt. I'm not sure if theres any difference between essex and midway bombers, i dont have the midway yet, but in general the turtleback armour scheme is coupled to a very good deck armour, which makes the AP so strong against this. IT IS NOT THE TURTLEBACK SCHEME ITSELF THAT DOES THE TRICK HERE. But when im playing essex, all germans (even GK) are at the top of my list if i can get to them due to the reliability of heavy damage hits. I_Y
