Nothing new here. Izumo is crap. German bb has strong armor. Why surprised?

Scharnhorst has changed the game (get ready to park those cruisers boys)
viceadmiral123 replied to venderbomb's topic in General Discussion
I don't know about the premium version of the German t7, but Gneisenau is an instant favorite ship. If Scharnhorst is as good or better, I have no doubt it will be a favorite for many. -
German Battleships appreciation thread, or how the meta is changing for better
viceadmiral123 replied to viceadmiral123's topic in General Discussion
I have never had so much fun in a "battleship" before, while currently playing Gneisenau. The fact that there are 5v5 Tirpitz/Gneisenau/Schranhorst per team makes the game so much fun. Even Bismark is insanely good in such conditions if the player knows how to kite at secondary range. When the German BB hype wears off and players grind to t9-t10 ships, I think most, like me, will keep the t7 and t8 ships for having a good time. Feels good to charge the flank of the enemy fleet in cyclone conditions, when knowing you can send a torpedo salvo on each side, then ram the capital ship before you sink ^^ -
German Battleships appreciation thread, or how the meta is changing for better

I am really enjoying the new German battleships. Not only that, but I am enjoying how the game changed with them. I used to enjoy games with Tirpitz on enemy team, because if they knew how to play, they would play aggressively. This means less camping at max range and more close range brawling, and usually the team follows a good battleship spearhead. Now, it is not only the Tirpitz. Three battleships have torpedoes, and they are positioned in mid-tier, encouraging very aggressive play. Not only that, but German BBs in general are made for brawling - excellent sloped citadel armor, excellent secondaries. I am sure players will see how enjoyable it is to play aggressively with them, and with that improve the game itself. -

I think German battleships in general changed the meta. Turtleback armor and sonar. Scharnhorst is on paper a great cruiser hunter. VS Battleships it can use fire spam, which works fine in low tiers. The hidden bonus is, the MM puts in t5 up to t9 matches, so it will never meet t10 cruiser players with 1 million exp on them. Basically Scharnorst sealclubs cruisers. Give it a few months for the stats to settle and see how WG reacts. -
RU DD - play like light cruiser, has pros and cons compared to light cruisers (no citadel and harder to hit, but also significantly weaker in a brawl and weak AA). Problem is, you are not good at scouting enemy DDs and taking caps. If you like to stay at range and spam fires on battleships, RU DDs are ok. If you like to play like a destroyer and scout and take caps, they are hard to fit in.

Getting chatbanned is quite common if you piss off an enemy Division. Very exploitable. Nobody cares, tho.

Sometimes players ruin the battle. Play really low tier, or play in division, if you want to enjoy game fully ^^

wargaming destroyed the aircraft carrier playing
viceadmiral123 replied to U156dasboot's topic in General Discussion
Every newbie will jump on this thread with his deep insight. The fact is, any ship drops squads like nothing. Wargaming made anti-air so strong that it rewards solo play. Carriers are good for chasing DDs, then chasing after singled out battleships with not top-tier anti-air. Now, proceed to comment how OP carriers are. -
Tirpitz, in my experience, is one of the most fun ships to play. The cruisers, on the other hand, can be sunk quickly if you are not careful how you play.

Scharnhorst & Detonations - a PSA
viceadmiral123 replied to Allied_Winter's topic in General Discussion
Torpedoes have a high chance of causing detonation if they hit hear a magazine. This is not exclusive to t7 battleships, but battleships in general tend to be more susceptible than other classes. -
Works fine for me.

t10 games are sub-par compared to lower tiers - issues
viceadmiral123 replied to viceadmiral123's topic in General Discussion
My general advice for fresh players that are hopeless in the t10 economy: Get to a t10 ship, dock it. Retrain captain for t8 or lower ship and enjoy the game. You will bleed credits in t10 games in general, with some exceptions. Don't forget to troll the enemy t10 captains while you sink them in your t8 ship. After you buy all the ships, you can use t10 as a money sink. There will be nothing else to spend credits on at that point. -
t10 games are sub-par compared to lower tiers - issues
viceadmiral123 posted a topic in General Discussion
The main issue of this topic is that t10 games usually are full of "campers", or players that do not go for objectives but prefer to stay at long range. That leads to somewhat dull experience for everyone. In comparison, lower tier games (t5-t8) are universally accepted as more fun. I've had quite a few games in t10 matchmaking, and I can pinpoint the shortcomings of the gameplay in high tier. 1. Repair costs. On average, a non-premium decent player will be beeding credits. Dealing damage to enemies brings a lot of credits, and it will cover the repair bill, but it is hard to deal damage when everyone is camping. Doing a little damage and taking a little damage results in credit loss, because of the flat tax you pay for entering the ship in battle. Doing a lot of damage and dying may result in credit gain. Repairs should be a bit cheaper, and other incentives should be introduced to make the encounters more enjoyable and encourage players to get closer. 2. t10 ships don't need experience. Captains do, but most players at t10 have an 18 point captain, or have enough points on the captain not to bother anymore. And at 18 point t10 ship captain, experience is short of useless. Low tier ships have something to gain by pushing into the cap zones, even if it means they die. They will get the cap, do damage to the enemy, and potentially win the game for even more experience. Maybe if the winning team had a better reward, a better teamplay would emerge? 3. Ship classes balance. While in lower tiers everything is a boiling soup, in high tiers there is pretty much a set gameplay. You can't move forward without support. Players tend not to play their ship's role, but prefer to snipe. I don't see a "fix" for this, as it is mostly the result of higher tier ships having better range, and destroyers getting long range torpedoes and relatively weaker guns vs high tier armor. 4. Lack of aircraft carriers in t10 games (inb4 nerf cv buff dd). I believe WG intended most games to have a CV on each team. Carriers drastically change the gameplay. They provide scouting and can flush out campers. The result is - a team has to stay somewhat in a group to counter the planes (and play the objective), destroyers no longer run around the map doing free torpedo salvos, the ships that have good AA have more impact. Unfortunately, carrier players are deterred by the AA strength of t9-t10 ships. It becomes a paradox that AA gets stronger, but it less often needed. I wouldn't say CVs are a must for every game, but they do make t10 games more fun. I'm not pushing for any "solution" here. I can play all tiers. And since the ceiling of 100k exp on captain retraining, I can move around 18pt captains easily. But it is rather strange that t10 should be the most boring one. My general advice for fresh players that are struggling in the t10 economy: Get to a t10 ship, dock it. Retrain captain for t8 or lower ship and enjoy the game. You will bleed credits in t10 games in general, with some exceptions. See if it works for you. Don't forget to troll the enemy t10 captains while you sink them in your t8 ship. After you buy all the ships, you can use t10 as a money sink. There will be nothing else to spend credits on at that point. -
Credit income on tier VIII plus still too low with premium
viceadmiral123 replied to G01ngToxicCommand0's topic in General Discussion
There is no incentive to play t10 except that in itself. You don't need the ship EXP, you will lose credits unless you play stealthily and try to avoid all damage (depends on ship, blabla, etc). Temporary solution: get t10 ship, dock it, retrain captain for t8 or lower, enjoy game. Don't forget to troll the t10 captains as you sink them in your Tirpitz. After you get all the ships, you can use t10 games as a money sink, because there will be nothing else to do with credits. -
I have a newfound enjoyment of playing my Tirpitz in that I will always make a lot of credits in t10 games, while bankrupting the enemy. Whoever said war was about money was right! You may sink me in the battle, but I will sink your economy

Tirpitz shooting AP at long range bow-on battleship? No effect?! Let's show the forum how good I am at this game!

Sugestion: Battleship secoundary guns consumable.
viceadmiral123 replied to Novaror's topic in General Discussion
I would agree with OP. To make battleship gameplay more fun, a new consumable may be introduced. Simiraly to how cruisers can use DF and heal, or DDs can use Smoke and Speed Boost. -
Interesting topic. Top speed and acceleration are very important, and I find I enjoy mostly the fast ships (Iowa and Tirpitz, among the battleships). 1-2kts of top speed difference can mean a lot. It is like saying 5% of torpedo protection is meaningless, but for a Yamato it would be better to take 2 torpedoes on the cheeks rather than 1 torpedo on the bow because of such small numbers. Similarly, Iowa can outrun a chasing Tirptiz, and Gearing has a hard time chasing Shimakaze.

t10 games are sub-par compared to lower tiers - issues
viceadmiral123 replied to viceadmiral123's topic in General Discussion
T9 and T10 see few carriers. I can expand on what I have mention in the first post - carriers are good for the game. When I play in a battleship, I love getting in a game with carriers. This would some contradictory - carriers should be my mortal enemy. However, with the current anti-air strength of battleships (and any anti-air specced ship), I don't feel the threat. Carriers help battleships by revealing enemy DDs and torpedoes, and giving enjoyment of dodging bombers and shooting down squads. A battleship captain would feel more comfortable when advancing if the enemy torpedo boats are spotted. Carriers make the game more exciting. The fact that there are less carriers in top-tier games is just one of the reasons I prefer lower tiers. -

Let me player a CV in random games by myself!
viceadmiral123 replied to ANTIQUE8NOVA's topic in General Discussion
2v2 carrier games have been horrible since forever. For every player in that game. I think t8 and above this is limited to 1cv per team since last update. -
This needs to stay on first page.

+1. Duplicates of ARP captains should be dismissable.

t10 games are sub-par compared to lower tiers - issues
viceadmiral123 replied to viceadmiral123's topic in General Discussion
When I play Tirptiz, and I get t10 MM it baffles me. People seem to think that the t8 Tirpitz is in "bad mm", when actually it's the other way around. I get to shoot at t10 cruisers' citadels, torpedo Yamatos at close range, and overall have a blast. Result - I play a free enjoyable playstyle, die, and earn 300k net profit, while the enemy t10 ships are at least -100k in the red (no premium taken into account). Even good players that played well in t10 ships are in the red. They don't even the experience for the t10 ship. This game has a management concept going on considering the costs of running t10 ships in average game situations, if the developers do not change the entry tax/repair cost I would think that t10 is meant to be played only occasionally, when you have credits to spare. And that would make sense if t10 was more fun that lower tiers, but it's not.
