Some interesting info around the world
byronicasian replied to Takeda92's topic in General Discussion
Yea. I can't imagine how they'll make playing the D-land fun. 2.5 RPM (only Twins get the newer 3.5rpm 11 inchers IIRC), 28 knots, meh armor. Worst part is the 2 turrets thing so you blow half your salvo if you [edited]up your ranging shot. -
Replacing Pensacola with Northampton
byronicasian replied to StringWitch's topic in General Discussion
The NA server discussed this. There are quite a few paper designs that can fit T6. http://shipscribe.com/styles/S-584/albums/s584-cr.htm I think in game, we also have (via extended tech tree) a 8 gun version of the Pensacola w. torpedo tubes. Which would probably fit T6 nicely. -
The so-called "Karlsruhe" is actually a Pillau
byronicasian replied to Professional_Lolicon's topic in Cruisers
Iunno, the prevailing theory from CBT on NA at least was that they didn't want to make the Furutaka play exactly like the Aoba (as they ended up being virtually identical post refit). Especially since the Furutaka was added in after Aoba in the tree. -
Most definitely, plus there is the neatness of keeping the Big 7s together in Tier 7.

Like in WOT Russian OP...or cheater?

Are any of those related to this sketch thing I found on reddit

Comrade Stalin sends reinforcements - Soviet cruisers revealed

Looks like an upscaled Kirov. I guess T6/7 would be subclasses/offshoots of the Kirov class? -

Comrade Stalin sends reinforcements - Soviet cruisers revealed
byronicasian replied to RoyalColor's topic in Cruisers
There's like a 3.5rpm difference between practical and trials RoF for the triple mount 180mm. That's a lot of play for dpm balancing. Precedent set w. the Furutaka (single mounts buffed from 2 to 3.5rpm) and Aoba (3 to 5.5 rpm) that RoF is a stat they will fuddle with for balance. I also wonder if the Svetlana will get the Krasnyi Kavkaz configuration as another hull. (15 x 130mm -> 4 x 180mm). -

Looks like they skipped the Admiral Nakhimov-class. Would've been an interesting T5. 15 x 130mm guns. I thought they would've gone Svetlana, Nakhimov, Kirov, Chapayev, Sverdlov, Paper , Paper. Edit: Nvm, misread the wiki, Svetlana is pretty much same as Nakhimov.. -
I was pleasantly surprised that I managed to get my first Kraken Unleashed achievement in this ship a month back. Thought it had no redeeming value whatsoever...

To clarify, back in Closed Beta, the hulls were named Kongo 1939, Kongo 1942 (and so on for other ships NY 1916, NY 1932 etc).

Just unlocked both ARP ships and I'm infuriated
byronicasian replied to iFeedOnYourTears's topic in General Discussion
It was pretty clear during the initial announcements that ARP ships counted as their own nation and did not take IJN captains...... Reading comprehension too OP. -
My theory is that at the time of initial balancing, they were still trying to go with "named year hulls". They just figured that Hiei's as sunk AAA fit T5 (vs Kongo/Haruna's late war AAA fit mounting almost as many 25mm as Yamato). That and they could reuse the some of the bridge/tower assets on Hiei for Yamato. Curiously, on the C hull, you see a the armor around the steering room reinforced a bit....making this an alternate history Hiei that survived and got her weak spot covered up.

Gonna quote Vaidency here (from NA). Its was in response to a DD complaint but secondaries are mentioned. See italics/bold/underlined.

Yea, I wouldn't expect that either. Most of the "stock speeds" are made up. Kongo stock makes 25kts (despite in WW1 config capable of 27.5). Nagato and Fuso stock is like 21/22 knots despite never having those max speeds IRL. All of the USN Standard BB have 18kt stock speeds when they all made 21kts off the slips. ( so based off of that, you'd probably have a fictional stock speed also).

I think we can infer from what will happen by precedent albeit WG/Lesta has been rather inconsistent. In game we have two examples of ships not being given any sort of margin for "safe overload". That is the Iowa class (seen in the debate here), given its "operating speeds" of 30.7 kts (at wartime load) despite having, a trial speed of 31.9 (at trial displacement of 56,000 tons), and a safe overload margin of 20% to potentially give a 32-33 kt speed at full displacement. http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/30515-iowas-in-game-speed-is-unfortunately-historical/ The same principle has been applied to the Shimakaze in game. Where she is given 39.4 knots (speed at 2/3rds load, at full 75000 shp) vs her speed on some of her trials (where she was only at 1/2 load, and overloaded her plants to 79000 shp). Tashkent making 43.5 knots on trial (a small nitpick, the VMF actually compensated for the lack of armament with additional stores since they also didn't want the overpay the OTO), limited to 42 or 42.5 in game as that was what she supposedly achieved on her fast runs in and out of Sevastopol (which I guess sounds plausible, as she was operating on the Black Sea, so no rough sea states, and she was only about 700 tons heavier from her trials coupled with a massive 130,000 shp power-plant). I would presume the Italians DDs would also be especially fast as they were probably not designed with range, endurance, and rough sea states in mind also. http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/31187-kantai-collection-discussion-thread-kai/page__st__10200__pid__1274525#entry1274525 Another thing we can probably expect is post-refit speeds since WG doesn't change speed w. the hull. You can see this with the Fubuki class (where she was given 35kts right off the bat despite making 38kts prior to ballast and refits being added after the 4th-Fleet incident). http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/57697-fubuki-is-slower-than-usual/page__pid__1410249#entry1410249 http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/57697-fubuki-is-slower-than-usual/page__st__20__pid__1412110#entry1412110 Same with Nagato (her propulsion upgrade brings her to post-refit max speed of 25 kts despite prior to the refit she can making 26ish). The North Carolina is an odd one, since she is given her most optimistic speeds despite having later hulls slowing her down IRL. This will probably be even more of an issue when you add the French and Italian DDs. They ran their trials very light, as common practice in the interwar years. The Fantastiques were some 600 tons lighter than wartime displacement (slower if you count the refits some of them had in America) Sources can be found in the respective forum posts linked but for convience sake I'll list it below. The helpful chart above is sourced from French Destroyers: Torpilleurs d'Escadre & Contre-Torpilleurs 1922-1956 by John Jordan & Jean Moulin. Info on the Taskhent sourced from Leader Tashkent by N.N. Afonin Iowa speeds from Norman Friedman's US Battleships: Fubuki speeds from "Kaigun" and "Warships of the Imperial Japanese Navy" As seen with all paper ships in game so far, they are all given "design" speed. There was also a case where the Izyaslav class DD where it was initially given its operating speed in Baltic Sea states (30.5 knots) but buffed to original trial speeds of 33 or so IIRC. tl;dr - Best guess is we're not gonna see safe overload (i.e. speeds attained from max powerplant SHP + x % is out as seen with Shimakaze and Iowa) on the German BBs (so the faster trial speeds are out), but the best service speeds are a possibility (North Carolina). tl;dr 2 - WG is hella inconsistent. Made even worse by the many different ways each country ran their trials at different displacements and SHP. And then made even worse, as they also use speed to buff underperformers like the Izyaslav.

New Orleans vs Mogami vs Adm. Hipper vs Atago vs Mikhail Kutuzov
byronicasian replied to ReaperChief's topic in Cruisers
Mogami w/o AFT, BFT, an for the 155mms and the nerfed Expert Loader skill, is pretty much going to be the new derp of T8. -
Nope, the Myogi ain't real. It's the B-40 design in the Hiraga archive. M'yogi is the B-40. His B-39 design was very very similar to Thurston's final Kongo in layout. Myogi's final C hull is pure WG conjecture (basically a what if the Myogi got an interwar refit like the Kongos). The Nicholas (made up name obviously, like the Myogi) is another paper ship, actually mentioned in one of the Friedman books. http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/38195-nicholas-class-destroyer-historical-data/page__pid__967652#entry967652 http://i.imgur.com/PDJlx5D.jpg

Well, I guess that's one way to equalize the damage between USN and IJN BBs... Reduce IJN survivability = less average damage done.
-
Thanks Darth.

Not sure how to read it, but the MK's DP battery now only does 1.3 dps now? Or do they mean it's getting 1.3x damage?

Nuernburg is a joke. Heck everything in the German tree suffers. Everything.
byronicasian replied to ApesTogetherStronK's topic in Cruisers
http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?showtopic=65360 It also does not show up in the data-mined stats either. Both AP and HE fire at 960 mps (or the generic term kts on the list). Matches the navweaps info. http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNGER_59-60_skc25.htm -
New premium DD to be ROCN "Lo Yang" (Benson class)
byronicasian replied to RoyalColor's topic in General Discussion
Last couple of screenshots I've seen, they are flying their respective naval ensigns. Only in the tree do they have the Beiyang fleet-esque flag. Although the PRC server doesn't use any real flags anyways. -
Arkansas/Wyoming:"Where are my planes and AA guns?!"
byronicasian replied to Han951753's topic in Battleships
IIRC, this was brought up in CBT. Something to do with WG unable to make turret top objects work, like with the AA on Tirpitz B turret, and the cosmetic guns on the Ishizuchi's turrets. As the Wyoming's catapult is on the turret ergo...they never put it in.
