Aircraft Carriers. Whats wrong with them?
pra3y replied to aidenthedestroyer's topic in Aircraft Carriers
I call bs on this. People say stock USN CVs can't do alot of damage, yet why is my avg damage for tier 5 to 7 usn cv way higher than the avg server damage when I only play stock on then? Even with the lexi i've only been playing strike but more team orientated than damage orientated. Still higher avg damage compared to server. As rng as dbs are, with 21 1000 pd bombs and the ability to do dot damage its not that difficult to do alot of damage with them. And those USN Tbs have the ability to 1 strike DDs and low tier CAs. Thats why i said Bogue was a good USN CV trainer in the other thread. You focus solely on manual dropping 1 torp squad only instead of having multiple damage dealing squad. U miss u dont do damage u hit you get rewarded with devastating strikes. With the 1 fighter squad u train how to strafe in order to make up against the multiple squad a zuiho has. On a side note i wish lexi gets a 1/1/3. Too bad im almost done with my lexi grind. For Essex and Midway i think having 2/1/3 for strike would be a good balance. 2 usn tb squad is kinda crazy tbh cause nothing would be able to shoot them down if they're stacked since they already have more health per squad than an IJN one. With the Hakuryu they only have 4 planes=less health=easier to shoot down. -
How I play my strike lexi

I dunno mate, but I've not seen more than a 1000 dubloons so far. -
I dunno about you guys but so far I've only been reported once or twice for playing strike lexi but complimented more than 5 playing one. I guess its how you play your strike lexi. I usually use my tb as bait and scout at the start of the game and also scout with my dbs when possible. Scouting seem to pacify my teammates compared to AA i think, especially in the tier 9 and 10 matches where most ships have way better aa. Had a recent match where i fed most of the the enemy's fighters (AS CV) to my team's mino while spotting for him and got complimented even though he died 3/4 way through the game. Tbh i think alot of people are either used to seeing strike lexi or have played the lexi and know of its problem. When people complain I just tell them to blame WG for giving lexi such a crap loadout. Those guys dont report me for some reason also so in the end I guess is how you play? Edit: You can still play support playing strike. Prehaps not direct aa support but scouting and baiting are also support. Don't play strike with a one track mind of just dealing damage only. If yr teammate needs a dd to be scouted out, help them or better yet sink it first before dealing with the other ships.

Well I guess its up to him/her. Either free xp up to tier 6 or just plow through with it. I know how OP feels though since I played my zuiho before strafe was introduced into the game.
-
Well WG say your side has a tier 6 CV that can strafe as well so it balances out...........until that tier 6 CV is an Inde playing strike But yes at low tier I find that USN CVs outshine their IJN counterpart with the 1/1/1, at least when I'm using it ;)
-
Yeap no strafe at tier 5 now. I'm told if you play well enough the Zuiho is fine though.
-
Lol its either t6 with 3/1/2 or 1/2/2 or t7 with the 2/2/2. Don't confuse the poor guy.
-
1st answer would be to bear with it. Once you reach the Hiryu and get 2/2/2 IJN CV gameplay gets better. 2nd you can try using your fighter to bait his fighters and fly around the map away from your strike planes and his teammate or alternatively sacrifice one of your strike squadron as bait while you use the rest to attack. 3rd if you engage his fighters you should pick the battleground which is to fight near your team BBs and CAs and use their AA to your advantage in the fight. DO NOT fight over friendly DDs if possible since it'll just end up making them get spotted. CV isn't just point and click like what some people think. Its a chess game where both CV players should try their best to outplay each other.

I've never said saipan needed a buff.

Because they don't need HE at all? The AP is great and combine with the reload speed the Nep and Mino can dish out alot of punishment. Got into a knife fight with a DM who made the mistake of showing me his broadside. Guess who won Apart from Leander and Edin being abit underwhelming Fiji, Nep and Mino are great. You need to learn how to land shots on superstructures so no matter how angled the enemy is you can still land shots on them. So no, no need HE. I can't imagine the havoc I'll cause if my Mino has HE
-
You wish. Anything can happen in game. I had the misfortune of playing against a 3/0/2 Essex in my Taiho. One of the worse CV experience I ever had.
-
I would say tier 8 onwards USN CVs are meant to be played as strike. Still pretty feasible to play 1/1/1 with the Ranger. I always pray the AS player I'm up against is a potato. If they know what they're doing then its game over. High tier AS CVs are worse. Essex and Midway get 3 squadrons of 7 fighters each so they can essentially have total map control. Hakuryu can get 4 squadrons of 5 fighters. Might as well ram and enemy ship.

Nah he does not have the base or skill set to play CV decently. If you want to watch CV videos guiding beginner I suggest you go to Fara's channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/farazelleth/videos. He has plenty of guide on how to play CV for new players. On damage I'll beg to differ that stock USN CV loadout can't dish a beating. Mind you using stock Bogue my avg damage is 53,527, server is 22,396. Stock inde, 57,242, server 28,832. Stock Ranger, 83,940, server 40,188. IJN CVs are actually less skill orientated compared to USN because they have the advantage in loadout. A USN CV player would have to put in more skill and effort to beat the IJN one since they're hamstrung by poor loadout choice. The only CV that I feel really suffer with the stock loadout is the Lexi at tier 8. With 1/1/1 in a tier 10 game its almost impossible, because while you have a fighter squad, you don't have the damage survival capability to go up against higher tier AA with 1 TB and 1 DB. Well WG say they're gonna tweak the loadout of the USN CVs so we'll just see how it goes.

Ah but there is something that you forgot, which is the hanger space of the Bogue, which is why I guess it's at tier 5. Tbh stock is actually the most OP if played properly pre-nerf since you can get clear sky easily enough strafing while doing damage with the TB. Post-nerf I agree it would be pretty hard fighting against an AS Bogue unless you're pretty good. Also remove Ichase's CV video. Watching him play CV is an affront and insult to all CV players. They're way better CV players out there. Heck I would go as far as to say Notser plays better than him. If you wanna watch CV games, Flamu, Aerroon, strangers123 and Farazelleth are all way better. I won't trust Ichase with a CV, not after he deplaned his own Hakuryu by playing so badly I cringed and that was him in a division with a Zao and a freaking Des Moine. He had a division mate in a DM and he still lose all his planes by throwing them human wave style into AA and wasn't ashamed about it. I'm sorry but anything him and CV cannot be trusted. PS: I still like the Know your Ships vids though and think its great. But anything him and CV related no just no.
-
The Bogue was actually a pretty good trainer for me. I used it to practice strafing as well as to drop on DDs with only 1 torp squad, since USN CVs only have 1 torp squad. That being said I have not touched my Bogue since they remove manual strafe and drop. Such a shame.
-
To be fair its pretty easy to kill planes with the Saipan plus alot of people are still kinda potato with CV (not that I'm complaining). I just had a match in my strike lexi against an AS lexi and I pretty much beat him. He chased after planes that I purposely use to lure his fighters all the way to the corner of the map. If I had a single fighter squadron I'll probably be able to strafe his 2 squadrons to death. But at the same time there are also quite abit of CV players who are pretty skilled. Playing against them can get pretty intense. I need more clear sky. Maybe AS Bogue...........
-
I did. Which part did I read/understand wrongly this time around?
-
See this is exactly it. You focus solely on the points that CV excel at against other classes but you neglect their weak points. There's no balance or consideration at all in your argument in why CV should be nerfed or how they should be. Its just CV OP please nerf. The amount can always be tweaked if necessary plus if you're gonna want to nerf CV might as well make them team orientated. That or nerf AA on BB and AA orientated DDs so that its easier to get hits in on them while buffing AA on CAs so that anything AA related would depend on CV fighters and CA which should be the case.

It may surprise you but I've never played WoT in my life. Lol the only thing I know about WoT is whatever I watch on Jingle's channel and I can't believe I forgot about flooding. Well sod it lets have both a guaranteed 20 sec stun and the flooding will be left to RNGesus. Yeap I know I play CV as well, I know how it feels especially when my lexi squads get shot down. Why not on rudder shift, the helmsmen could hit his head against the helm and react slower ;) I would reduce AA on USN BBs only and that also depend on the tier of the BB I guess. IJN ones are kinda neither here nor there and German ones depend on whether its AA built. IJN and German BB AA with just bft and aft are kinda balanced I feel, neither too weak nor OP (from tier 7 onward) base on my experience playing them and striking them with a CV. Lol you see why its so difficult to have a discussion with you? You look at things too one sided, which is a wholesale nerf of CVs. You don't consider things like the existence of AA or the reload time of planes and their lack of replenishment. To be honest I think it would help CVs and the team as a whole, because now the CV is even more team orientated (not that it isn't, but that would depend on the CV player itself). You hit an enemy ship with the torps and "shock" their crew, while your team finishes it off. Maybe introduce kill assist so that CVs wouldn't feel that aggrieved or any class for that matter. You'll probably say its random and you can't always rely on your team but the question is why can't the game itself introduce means and ways to encourage teamplay right ;)
-
Nerf CV torpedo damage by half but introduce a stun effect where ships hit by CV torps: - reloading takes 50% longer - rudder shift takes 50% longer - ship speed reduced by 50% - aa effectiveness reduced by 50% Then introduce a 4 point captain skill called "battle harden" that reduced the stun effect by half

Udoloi was complaining how the whole team was not supporting him, causing him to die. This was despite at the start of the game, an Atlanta, Chapa and Genisenau followed him into B. Despite their request for smoke, he refused and they all got sunk their while he survived. Afterwards he went back into B and got sunk. Then posted in chat the "shame team" and sarcastic "thx for your support". When the Atlanta commented about how he did not support them the last line was his reply. You know what's even funnier? The whole time his clan leader who was in the same division as him was camping from the back in his Iowa. The whole freaking game. I mean look at this, just before the game ended: Guy barely lost 1/4 of his health. Why is it perfectly fine for his clan leader to camp at the back while the rest of the team is required to support a selfish guy who refuses to support them in return?
-
Its more of them being selfish and unreasonable though. Using one standard to judge the rest of the team while at the same time your division mate can do whatever they want, even if its bad play. Would expect better from a clan div though.

Whoops my bad then <insert embarrassed smiley> . Lol i think I must have completed it already cause when I check in game the mission wasn't there.
