I still don't like getting shot by him though.

Thanks. Can't believe I missed that. Unfortunately no. That pink status though :(

We were at B then and he was further back while i was in front of with the Grozovi. The DD in question was a Tashkent and in between getting shot at by the enemy ships and NO shell arc I bailed. And if you're wondering if me or any of the CAs shot at the DDs then yes we did. I missed though. But missing seem to count as not shooting so go figure. Apparently to him I was shooting at BBs that I had no range to shoot at. And after he said its a CAs job to kill DDs while he's at the back I decided to join him. Why risk myself when almost all the BBs were at the back camping? Just had another game where me and a Budyonny pushed. Only enemy on that flank was an NC that I had no problem dodging shots of. Meanwhile all the BBs were at the back and not pushing. When they finally decided to push, the game ended. Sure he can call me out if I'm really not doing my job but shooting me and another CA? Should I shoot camping BBs now? I'm always tempted but never have. ps: which shot was it? I can't find it.

Well so be it. You were the one asking for tips on how to deal with a CV without any help from a friendly CV and I gave it to you. If you find it unhelpful and nothing stops a CV from perma spotting you or stop you from doing your job as a DD then so be it. On a side note about assumptions, you seem to be assuming every single CV player you meet is a competent unicrum and unaffected by how the battle flows and is at 100% mental playing level incapable of making mistakes. And btw I'm not assuming, its just from my own experience playing both CVs and DDs. Well I'm just another incompetent CV player that can't multitask I guess.

Well that's where you're wrong. You're not looking at this from the perspective of a CV player. A competent CV player scouts, shoot down enemy planes and strike at enemy ships. So at any point in time, his concentration is split between this 3 things. If he's persistently scouting you, then he's not focusing on the other 2 area, which is a win for your team. If he's not doing so, then you can either escape or bait him by sailing into friendly AA. Not every CV player would know exactly which ship has good AA or not. Sure they'll know the usual suspects like Cleveland, Mino, DM all that but others? For example a Hipper may seem unassuming but it has pretty good AA for its tier. Almost all the tier 7 and above BBs have good AA. Bayern and Queen E's AA are pretty strong. If the CV is perma spotting an area then just re-position. Sure he achieve his aim, but the planes are then "stuck" in that area. Heck even my Pensacola's AA is pretty effective against tier 6/7 planes. The other thing you have to consider is while those planes are fast, they're not super fast like tier 10 planes are. Like I said, it takes time for those planes to move from one area to another. Remember he has a limited amount of squadrons and a limited amount of hanger space. Plus he cannot just purely focus on you. He has to consider the other CV as well as the other ships in your team as well. So there are definitely ways to outfox an enemy CV in a DD. The "wait until late game" point is more of considering not to play too aggressively as a DD at the start if the CV is out for you. Say for example you're in a standard game, both sides are fighting at the flanks and killing off each other while you go around, dropping torps here and there while you can. Late game, lesser ships, enemy CV has lesser planes, you start capping, it possible to turn games around solely with a DD at the end game capping an enemy base. Sure the enemy CV can spot you but if you save your smoke and use it while he comes in for the attack then he waste one attack and has to rearm his planes before attacking again, wasting time. That's why you can't just consider things from the perspective of a CV's target but at the same time you have to know the limitations of a CV. When you know that you can take advantage of it and all of a sudden CVs aren't as OP as what some people claim them to be.

@Tubit101 You have to be more proactive yourself. If you cannot rely on your CV to ptotect you the next best thing is to rely on nearby ships with good AA to put off the enemy CV. Sure it takes abit of time but it helps. Was trying to cap once in Fubuki (when it was tier 8) when enemy Taiho decided to scout and attack me. I went towards the nearest friendly ship with decent AA to use its AA against the Taiho. Survived then went back to cap. Best thing about this is that you don't have to ask for help since AA is automatic anyway. Also you don't have to rush as a DD. Try to cap at the start but if enemy ship or CV is hindering you then run first. The longer you survive in a DD, the more dangerous you are late/end game.

Nope, legit try your luck option. I don't wanna jinx myself so I'll just say somewhat decently. Unfortunately I never seem to get any ships.
-
I opened up 4 SCs this week. 1 smoke mod, 1000 doubloons, India Yankee and Wyvern flags but no ships . Some people just have all the luck.

I know, but it feels kinda wasteful when that squadron could be doing something else. Yeap ;) On the issue of UI, is it really that bad for you guys? Apart from the occasional bugs I find it kinda ok tbh. Only gripe is that I can group my squadrons together with a single key eg; binding all the TB squadron to say the H key. PS: Got reported by a ST for "CV sniping" In my defense, he was in a division with 2 Minos, his entire time lemming trained in one direction and I just so happen to spot him as he moved forward while scouting for my team and since he was practically alone with no other AA ships nearby I thought, why not? F3ed him as well so half the team was shooting at him for being a potato and moving so far forward for me to spot him ( well I do that occasionally as well ) I only did 3687 damage on him and he felt that I sniped him :( Well he was asking for it for divisoning up with 2 Minos . Karmaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

All I can say is that I've been using IFA all along, even before PT came along and for me, even when playing the pre-buffed Pensacola I rarely get one-shot even when spotted by everyone and their grandmother owing to IFA (may not have even gotten one-shot for that matter). It may not seem useful to you but to me its a pretty good life saver. DDs are hard to play for me ok and not everyone is god tier like you in the Gremy I challenge you to a CV duel instead

Now a days when I play my DDs, I swap to torps before locking on to a target precisely because of this. So then, how would it help you now ;) I get what you mean but more below. While I agree with what rvfharrier has said on the effectiveness of PT, the factor that affects my decision on why IFA is better is because of the CAs's rudder shift. For DDs its kinda pointless to take IFA given the often close quarter combat that they engage in. BBs have too sluggish a rudder shift to make full use of IFA. On the other hand, PT would be effective for both of them for the same reason rvfharrier and VC381 have said. However, CAs are in the middle ground where there rudder shift is fast enough to make a difference and they often engage in mid, long range duel (well depending on your CA's range). I can show my broadside all I want and keep on using all my guns until i see the IFA light up and then i turn in or out to dodge the enemy shots or minimize the amount of incoming damage and then just rinse and repeat. It allows me to maximize the damage I can do with my CA while allowing me to live longer. I don't have to waste time thinking if I should dodge because there are 2 or 3 ships targeting me. Its a dodging by the teeth play style but I guess like what VC381 has said its up to personal preference I always have enough time to see where the shots are coming from once I see the IFA flash

Actually IFT is the one that gives u more warning cause PT only tell u how many ppl lock on to u with guns ( pretty sure i read somewhere that it doesn't tell you if anyone locks on to you with torps) while IFT will tell you exactly when you're getting shot at. The number of ppl locking on to u and the number of ppl shooting at you is a big difference. Moreover the IFT flashes everytime someone shoots at you so you know roughly how many ppl are shooting at you at that point in time. You tell me which one gives you a clearer picture ;)

Take incoming fire alert instead of priority target. It's a more useful skill for CAs than priority target both for gameplay and survivability.

Tell that to my teammate who tried to torp a kagero that i was rushing to save said team mate. It can't sink dds just so u know. So no, not any ships.

Well for me I like cyclones because I'm able to do drops on ships without enemy fighters harassing me, unless the other enemy cv player can guess what I'm planning. In the otherhand, the downside for a cv player is that you'll not be able to see the enemy ship until you're practically on top of it. For a decent/good player, that gives them some time to react while you re-adjust your planes to get the bang out of your buck.

EU missions: Week 1: -Sink 100 french ships Week 2: -Earn 500k base Xp Week 3: - In one battle, sink 5 ships, earn base 3000 xp, come first in team scare and do at least 200k damage

Helping cruisers is easier than what you might think.
pra3y replied to elblancogringo's topic in General Discussion
I think a lot of players often undervalue IFA alot. IFA works for well for all cruisers tbh. I'm grinding through all the cruiser lines and its very useful no matter which cruiser line I'm playing. At long to mid range you can instantly rely on the cruisers's decent to sometimes ridiculous rudder shift to turn and avoid shots like a boss. I played the Pensacola before they buffed its concealment and had no issues with it, especially since I know when someone is shooting at me from long range. At close range if someone shoots at you you'll know who it is and you can angle. But what happen if the IFA lights up while an enemy ship is near you and shooting at you? That means you're getting shot at from more than 1 direction and so you can adjust your play accordingly. It opens up alot of things you can do in your CA. PT can tell you if your ship is being targeted or not only and how many ships are targeting you. On the other hand with IFA I can show my nice CA broadside and keep on using all my guns until I see that IFA sign flash, then do a hard left or right and see the enemy shells land into the water next to me. That being said, IFA is only useful for CAs to give them the "ability" to dodge shots or minimize damage since they have the ship capability to do so. Totally useless for CVs and you'll be better off using PT for DDs and BBs. -
Well I guess we'll have to see how it goes for this clan war. I guess while some of us aren't part of clans and play solo or with friends, the implication of not including CV in CW spread beyond the scope of clans as well. Will we see a ranked battle without CVs one day with the same reason as CW? I think WG still seem confused as to what exactly do they want CVs to do.

[WiP] Graf Z Deepwater-Torpedo Test
pra3y replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in Videos, Streams & Blogs
It was pretty hilarious to see the enemy graf carry out a few torp strikes on my team's dds -
1) Aye I feel you. 2) Couldn't help it. For some weird reason my strafes keep on missing his planes even though they obviously pass by his planes while his take out 3/4 fighters a strafe. So I first end up losing all my fighters and then end up losing most of my TBs. I managed to spot him, sneak a TB to hit him while he hide behind a mountain and then a teammate in the Kamikaze R finished him. Gave said teammate a +1 but by then it was too late for me to do any excessive amount of damage with the pitiful amount of TBs I have left. I think I can now confirm what El2aZeR said a while back on whether there are more ppl playing AS built. Met a couple of Essexs and Taihos playing AS plus that Ranger. Geez. 3) That's why I always try to spot or kill DDs first if the game is too AA heavy, domination or there is only 1 enemy DD
-
Slightly off what you said but on the issue of not giving up, had my Kaga practically deplaned by a competent guy playing AS Ranger Lost 60 planes but my team still won and I was in the top half. Tbh I think only potato CV players will do a cv snipe right off the bat. That's why they give up cause they feel that it is not possible to win against the enemy CV, which I find is poor form. I've played CV games where the other side just wreck my planes, but as a CV player its my obligation to play for my team as long as i have planes and then to hide somewhere where the enemy can't hit/find me when I've loss all of them. You'll be surprised though some cv players still try to snipe when they see that there is too many AA ships around.
-
Im guessing cause IJN CVs already have a somewhat decent concealment so you won't need concealment expert, since you can mount the concealment module as well. On the other hand, with manual aa you can rip up CV planes that try to snipe or spot you at close range, which is a plus. You can't really hide from planes anyway if the enemy CV is determined to spot you. I feel that concealment expert is more effective against enemy ships than planes.
-
So what do you guys think about no CVs in clan battle? When I think about it now, WG first tried to make it so that doing damage should not be the only thing CV players focus on. Now, they see that too much scouting/spotting is a bad thing. One wonders what exactly do they want CVs to do? Deal damage? AA? Spot/scout? Or just screw everything?

None that I know of.
