I'm not inventing anything. Isn't it just as presumptuous to assume every CV player you meet is competent? Just like very other class there are potatoes who play CV. Assuming every single Hakuryu you meet is someone who can one shot you is false. Why would they not come in single squads? Some CV players do cross-drops all the time to make sure they do guaranteed damage/ it seems more effective to them. Some are just potatoes who don't know what they're doing. Some are forced by situations where they have to send one squad to kill a low health enemy target to get more pts while the other is reloading. Say for every strike the CV does he stacks all his TBs together. That would mean that instead of waiting for 1 squad to reload and go out there to strike a target, you wait for all 3 squads to rearm, then launch them, then stack them and then strike. How much time do you think it'll take to execute each strike? In exchange for better plane survivability and damage, you exchange DPS. If you mess up that stacked drop then you have to start all over again and that takes time. And each game at most last for 20 mins. On the other hand, you can throw survivability out of the window and just keep on throwing TB squads out and strike targets without stacking. You have increase DPS temporarily but in the long run you'll lose planes fast and lose your potential to deal any damage and effective just a floating brick worth 90 pts. Then if we're going to talk about match making what about a Shokaku meeting tier 10 ships? How effective do you think its planes are and how disadvantages is it for tier 8 CVs in tier 10 matches? That's the thing I think. People think that CVs are playing a separate game when its not. Having skills in CV is one thing but what about helping out the team? For example the other day I had a game in my Taiho. Kagero went to cap a point so I sent my fighters out to help him scout and sent my TBs in to provide cover in case an enemy DD starts shooting at him. Enemy DD does pop out and I sank it while the DD capped the point. Then an enemy division of Mino and DM moved next to the cap and thus I'm hamstrung. So I try to hit targets attacking my team from a distance that are alone to relieve their pressure while they push into B to recapture and get rid of the division. When the enemy Taiho attacks them I provide AA as best as I can. After that I help the team to scout out the remaining enemies, a Montana and the other Taiho. Post game got complimented by the Kagero. CV play is not about trying to get as much damage as possible. Sure it's easier to do damage in a CV, but my goal is to try and help my team win. I've had games where I do tons of damage and get multiple medals, yet we lose because my whole team decides to camp. On the other hand, I've had games where I lose almost all my planes and did poorly in terms of damage, yet my team win because I made the right call on what target to strike or what actions I should take plus my team is able to take advantage of that and that's why we win. In games where there are no CVs do you know which class is the best at winning games? DDs. As long as they survive to the end and cap, your team have a higher chance of winning. BBs and CAs are good at influencing the start and the middle of the game, especially with strong pushes that wreck the enemy team but the enemy team just needs one DD to cap your base while your team is pushing theirs to win. Regarding this no fighter thing I feel that its not really effective. Perhaps at tier 4 WG could remove fighters, reintroduce manual drop but nerf the damage so that it'll discourage seal clubbing while allowing new CV players a better environment to learn CV gameplay. It also allow other class players to not suffer that much. Then from tier 5 onwards the actual CV gameplay starts. Getting rid of that "air control" aspect would just be detrimental and unfair to the team you're on and encourage poor CV play in the long term.

For one, torps do more consistent damage than bombs given that with torps there is more control when you drop while bombs rely on RNG. That being said I can assure you 1000 pd bombs are nothing to scoff at. Secondly, it is more difficult to play USN CVs than IJN ones because it requires more skill. Any potato with some idea on how to play CVs will do reasonably ok with IJN. However given that its harder for most people to perform well in USN CVs given their loadouts as compared to IJNs, naturally the average stats of USN CVs will be lower than IJNs in most area. Dodging isnt rocket science. You do know CV players are human too right and can make mistakes. Not every CV player is a super unicrum. The more evasive action you take the more likely the CV player wilk make a mistake. Put yourself in their shoes. If a target keeps on turning while its AA are shooting down your planes, will you be abit rushed or panic to drop your torps?

People like you seem to think that Haku is some unstoppable monster when in fact its not exactly that hard to deal with them. IJN torp squads only have 4 planes per squad. That's 12 planes in total to deal with. If anything you should be more worried about 3 USN DB squads stack dropping their bombs on you because they have more health overall with 21 planes. If those Haku TBs come at you individually or try and do a cross drop, any same tier CA or BB should be able to focus fire on the individual squads and take out most of them and minimize the damage. You don't even have to shoot down the whole squad, after shooting down 2/3 planes in one squad pick the next to focus fire on and you'll be minimizing the damage you receive already. If they come stacked together do the same thing and in addition turn in the direction they're approaching and you'll avoid quite abit of damage. How is it actually that difficult if you try? Saw one of the forum's anti-cv guy in a Lion yesterday on Trap. Guy parked his BB in front of A and stopped there. When our CV torped him he raged at the CV. But how is it the CV's fault when he himself decided to stop there? Why stop knowing that this was a CV game and stopping would just make him an easy and better target. Sometimes you guys should make an effort learning how to avoid attacks from CV before complaining and you'll realize CV's aren't really that invincible.

The Hipper is an unmitigated disaster and needs huge buffs

Yeah I feel like I've been cheating myself for using HE through the grind. Thinking now if I should get the Prinz Eugen. -

I've recently pretend that it's a British ca/cl and only fires AP instead of of spamming HE. Helped me feel that the grind is now just normal instead of bad and increased my damage output with it. Kinda surprise the amount of citadels I get off just shooting AP. -
I think it's mostly the players and partially on the line's load out. There is a slight difference in how USN and IJN CVs should be played. With USN you get larger squadrons with more health. Take the USN fighter squadron for example. Overall you have more ammo and more health than an IJN one. In most 1v1 click fights you should win. If say you only have 1 USN fighter squad up against 2 IJN ones, you should use strafe to escape first and then act accordingly depending on how the IJN CV reacts. You can do that more readily compared to an IJN player because you have 7 planes (with AS) compared to the IJN's 5 so you lose out lesser compared to them. I think people have a misconception that the Taiho and Hakuryu's 3 TB squadron are unstoppable and too strong when they're not. While there is no doubt torpedoes do more consistent damage compared to bombs, its actually harder to stop USN DBS when they're stacked together as opposed to stacked IJN TBs since overall those DBs have more health and more planes. Then you have to consider the fact that those DBs will actually destroy AA mounts on the ships that they hit. So while playing IJN you would usually torp and then db a target after they damage control, one way to get around the weakness of having just 1 TB squad as a USN CV player is to go in with DBs first to take out as many AA as you can and then do a torp run. The problem is people just see oh IJN has 3 torp bombers and therefore are better than USN which has only 1. Add on to the fact that IJN loadouts come off as more balanced no matter the type (at tier 9 and 10) while the USN's loadout are more hamstrung IJN comes off as the better choice. I don't really think looking at overall stats of the USN CV line is appropriate seeing that people either focus on AS or Strike or don't know how to play it to its strength. Given the benefits IJN CVs have, for example, multiple squadrons, overall better loadout and more tbs, they're more "noob friendly" and its easier for them to win games and do more damage. Compared to USN which are stuck with AS, Strike and balanced/stock, you can only play a certain role in AS and strike while for balanced its pretty difficult, especially if up against an experienced CV player. That's why the overall stats for USN CVs are bad. Because people don't know how to use them..

Are you kidding me 7 dd's in a clan battle????
pra3y replied to OttoTTV's topic in General Discussion
While we all have gripes with WG here and there, I don't really think its an issue in this case. You already have counterbalance in the form of fighter/spotter planes, radar and hydro along with your own DDs to help with spotting the other side or their torps. The reason why Wally lost was due to their poor setup, poor play and poor reaction. The problem lies with them and not WG. Blaming it on a "design flaw" or "cheats" is just an excuse. I really hope they've apologised to the other clan. Afterall OP started the tread with ill intentions. Had we not watched the video no one would have known that they had such a bad setup and such poor sportsmanship. It would be pretty shameless and just show the sort of clan they are, a petty potato clan. -

@OttoCarius21st_Tv You could have found Wally..........if you had used radar. -

I propose that the topic be changed to: "WOWS Clan Battles 101: How to throw a win against 7 DDs by not having radar" -
Its a useful skill for DDs to have as their rudder or engine often break when getting shot at. With the skill even if the rudder or engine breaks you're still able to leave the engagement at a decent enough speed. Modules will not gurantee that it'll 100% not break and only accelerates the repair time. Finally it saves you from wasting your damage control party. For example if you're spotted and shot at and your engine breaks. You use damage con as u try to run away but the next salvo knocks out your steering and sets a fire. At that point in time you're either dead or have to play super safe for the remainder of the game. On the otherhand with last stand you can run away without bothering to repair and save your damage con for major problem like fire. Plus you know with last stand if your engine breaks, the speed is only slightly penalised. Without it, your speed will drop serverly while you damage con and then increase back up aftwr you've used it. That gap could prove fatel since you'll be an easy target.

pra3y replied to OttoTTV's topic in General Discussion
On a serious note after watching part of the replay I can already see a major problem with your game. You went into the game without a single cruiser with radar. I mean if you're serious about clan wars won't you get at least a DM or Mos or have your Mino use the radar consumable instead of smoke? Why the heck would you go into a clan battle without a single ship with radar ? You're just asking for it aren't you? You know that earlier question you asked about how to deal with 7 DDs? Use radar. You calling them "cheats" when your team had such a poor setup is truely a wonder. You're the joke here and deserved whatever you got. -

Disgusting indeed. The least they could do was to go with an all Shima team so that we can find out what happen when you're up against 105 torpedoes. Such a shame really. edit: sentencing -
One of the problem with AA in general is you're never sure how far exactly you should be to avoid AA. There are times where I'm pretty sure my squadrons are far away enough from the AA ships, yet their AA can still wreck me. That's with the CAs and above sized ships. But with DDs? It gets even trickier (guessing the AA range) and if you meet some guy who has an AA built DD your planes are pretty much gone. I've once met an Akizuki while playing my Kaga I think, and his AA just shredded my planes out of the sky. It's difficult to avoid him as I won't be able to spot him before his AA kicks in and when I do spot him my squadrons get wreck. That being said I think WG is testing out ship detection when AA kicks in and also Drunken_Jedi has a thread on AA aura spotting over here: Would be good if WG introduce something that gives us some inkling on what is happening and how deep in crap we're in when attacking an enemy ship.

Well since its the Kaga screenshot thread I might as well leave this here. Nothing remarkable except having air superiority over a Ranger of all things and getting called a wallet warrior for strafing his planes. Stand back Saipan you ain't got nothing on the Kaga.

Well glad to see someone enjoying the Balti as well. I went for general support but differ in the module and captain perk. Using ASM1 and GFCSM2 and as for Captain perk wise I'm currently at this: http://shipcomrade.com/captcalc/0000001000100000000000100000100119 Will end with BFT and AR. I feel that my AA isn't really that overly powered as I felt it would/should be currently.

At least they didnt accuse you of camping at spawn when you ask them to push. Happened to me once.

Its decent enough for me I guess after playing the Hipper. I finally decide to just stick with AP with that one unless the target is totally angled. Tbh among all the tier 9 CAs, I think Roon is the most meh of them out there, especially since the play style is different from it's previous tier. No doubt its an improvement over the Hipper but I still feel it's kinda lacking. At least with Balti the difference isn't that much from an NO and you just play it as an upgraded NO with way better guns.

No problem. I guessed as much. Nothing much you can do at the start, either a Kurfurst or the DDs and if so the Shima. Gearings depend on how they're loaded out and Z52 I'm still not sure just how efficient their AA are even though I know its good. I think maybe in this cases just start off with scouting and DD hunting. At least that's what I usually do when AA is stacked against me.

You know the weird thing is before I got the ship, after reading the various forum post I was pretty worried it'll be a long grind in another lackluster CA that is weak. Just before I finish my grind on the NO PT was up I went onto it to test the Baltimore out and I find it pretty ok ship. HE is good, AP is good, arcs aren't really as bad as they're said to be and the ship is tankier than it's predecessors which is a plus. And with maximum concealment I can radar whoever that is spotting me. All in all a decent ship. Plus almost all CAs suffer from being out in the open with no cover or being citadelled from any direction by a BB so I don't really see how using those excuses mean that the Baltimore is a weak ship.
-
I just got the ship as well and its pretty fun to play, way more than NO. Perhaps the problem is you?

Since you can currently respec your captain for free, why not try play with IFA instead if PT. Continue how you play but whenever the IFA sign pops up just angle in or whatever you usually do when you get shot at and see if it helps. No harm trying and if it doesn't just respec back to PT before the 24 Oct. It helps me alot since instead of worrying about how many people shoot at me, I just worry when they shoot at me and when I should angle etc. Had a game in the Ibuki recently where the enemy BB was wondering why his shots either keep on missing or become overpens. Helps me to kite better in my CAs. Ps: Apologies if it looks like I'm trying to force you to use IFA. It's up to you but with the free respec why not eh ;)
-
How do you play it? Do you usually stop at a distance bow on and lob shells or do you move around at a distance and lob shells? I guess its play style would be similar to IJN CAs. You go around kiting at range while spamming hard hitting HE shells. With the speed boost you can usually get in and out of situations fast. Do you use PT or IFA? Personally I use IFA so I know when someone is shooting at me and thus angle against the shots or dodge them.
-
I think you have to start learning how to play the game properly, how the various game mechanics works etc. This isn't purely an arcade game where you shoot at your enemy and your enemy shoot at you. There are alot of things involved and what Commander_Cornflakes have said is only part of it. Go to you tube and watch some videos of people like Flamu, it'll help you in the long run.
