Best game in Essex so far. God I love those bombs You guys have no idea the fun you're missing out on
-
You sure? I checked and it can only carry one.

Surprisingly Bogue was purpose built as a CVE rather then being a conversion, just with that cargo ship based hull. Well for one it's actually easier to shoot down 3 squads of 4 planes than 2 squads of 6 planes. I guess that's why we hear people complaining about how Midway's 2 TB squads were OP in the past rather than hearing people complain about how OP Haku's 3 TB squads are.
-
It is sort of overpowered. Imagine 2 squads of 6 TB with a close horizontal line drop pattern and being harder to shoot down then Haku's TB. It'll probably one-shot everything at its tier even when under defensive AA. Well if WG is feeling abit adventurous, the current tier 10 Midway TB, the Douglas XSB2D, can actually carry 2 torpedoes per plane so................
-
Yeah, its like what @jss78 has said, I was playing the Bogue till they removed manual attack. It was a good trainer for practicing strafes and manual drops. We can only see. Then again I don't play it anymore. Have it in port though in case they decide to give tier 5 CVs manual attacks again. For some weird reason I keep on thinking the Bogue was a cargo ship that got converted into a CV and that's why it has very little hanger capacity (ok I just wikied and they were base off a cargo ship hull).
-
It'll feel weird artificially increasing the hanger capacity though.
-
Thinking about the Bogue with 1/1/1, does that mean it'll have lesser replacement for each squadron? Or will WG buff the hanger capacity. Cause if I'm not mistaken, the 1/1/0 Bogue has about 7/8 planes per squad in the hanger.

That was in reply to ForlornSailor's post on comparing the CVs base on their strength and not the skill of the player. Yeah but you have to remember that that one TB when dropped well will literally kill anything but a BB or CV at low tier. It'll either heavily damage or can even one shot those low tier BB or CVs but not all the time. Its unforgiving for sure, but it rewards you for a good drop. Ok I think I'm complicating things too much already but basically I just want to say this:
-
No its just that the style required is different between the lines. Like I said previously IJN is more of a swarm base flexible playstyle. You have multiple squadrons but they're of weaker health and can be killed easily. However, they can potentially overwhelm a target with numbers. USN have stronger individual squadrons that if used correctly can create either do alot of damage or overpower enemy CVs. For example in a 1 v 1 click fight a USN fighter squad will usually beat a IJN fighter squad just taking into consideration the health, damage and ammo. But yeah I get what you mean. Wrong way of explaining it I guess.
-
Nah I've never lost a strike lexi faceoff.......I think. Indeed while the IJN stats come off better, it also shows that it is not impossible to do well with USN CVs. Maybe if we look at it from a balance point of view, below tier 8 most ships don't really have that crazy of an AA plus they have lesser armor and health. The USN TB can one shot CAs and DDs below that tier and when used in conjunction with the 500 pd to set fire and do some damage on a BB or CV that already damaged con it's strong enough. Tier 8 onward most ships have decent enough AA and more health, so the damage required is higher. Plus if you put the DB target reticule over a tier 9/10 BB or CV it is with the ship so your bombs are somewhat more accurate? I hate inaccurate target mechanism (South Carolina and Myogi comes to mind) but so far the DBs hasn't made me feel like giving up. Decently accurate I feel. Sure RNGesus, but not really that bad either.
-
The thing is though does the condition at the point of time when you want to strike a target allows you to strike that particular target. Its always easier for you to pick your own targets at the start than a HE spammed target. Because you can pick a Montana that is sailing alone whereas that Yamato who has all his aa knocked out can be next to a DM and a Mino that kind of thing. Obviously you won't go after the Yamato just because it's AA has been knocked out right?
-
Well for the Midway it's only the TB that is tier 8 so just do the reverse. Dive bomb to destroy AA then send it the TBs. Plus I guess you could always get the more health for strike plane module.
-
Well I think the load outs are somewhat ok: Lexi becomes a semi strike Essex, able to provide some air cover as well as finally being able to deal damage when up tiered. It depends on how effective those AP bombs are but I'll probably stick to my 1000 pd bombs. Essex becomes stock Midway. While I can see why WG would want to down tier the fighters, I think they shouldn't. Why give IJN CVs a chance just because Essex has 2 fighters now. TB being down tiered is probably in relation to Midway but I think they should at most down tier by 1 tier only not 2 for Essex and Midway. After all tier 10 AA is still pretty strong overall so even with 2 TBs at tier 8 it may get wrecked also.
-
Precisely why it requires planning and precision to play USN CVs. I never had air superiority playing strike Lexi, yet why can I beat other CVs that have fighters? Ok, so being objective, I'll also had to have played against other strike Lexis in those 47 games that I won. Without me providing air control the team should have all died right? I mean both sides have no fighters I can't stop him and he can't stop me. Why can I still beat them? Difference in experience? Perhaps. Me playing the objectives? Probably. So while I fail in fulfilling the air control criteria, I make up with the other 2 in scouting and damage as well as the main objective, which is to do what it takes to win. It harder to kill a DD than a BB in a USN CV. But by me prioritizing the DD over the BB, I ensure that my team's chance of winning increases, cause its harder for them to cap and I deny them one area of scouting. Flexibility is a key in IJN gameplay, not US. Or to be more exact the flexibility afforded by having multiple squadrons is a key to IJN gameplay. USN CVs eschews flexibility in exchange for being slightly harder hitting and tougher. So making use of that toughness is how you play USN CVs. PS: On DB RNG I really feel that its fine. I mean if 21 1000 pd bombs land on a target every time you'll probably see people complaining about getting 1 shot by USN DBs or USN CV players complaining about getting reported for one-shotting ships with their DB squadrons. PPS:

I meant the USN CV line in general, not just between Haku and Midway. The reason why IJN stats would come off better is because they have a truly balanced squadrons. So even if a potato plays it, they would do reasonably well in all statistical area. However, when you throw that same potato into playing the USN line, he's stuck in a quandary. The stock loadout, while usually ok for experienced CV players, would appear lackluster to them as their planes would either keep on getting shot down or they don't do enough damage. So they either go for AS or strike. Experienced CV players can make both sets work as well in an all rounded manner. Can't remember the name but I know one of the CV forum posters who favors AS USN CVs and still do pretty decent damage with just the DBs. But for potatoes, if they play AS they only know how to try and go after enemy planes and do some damage here and there. Same for strike, they only try to go after ships and try to do damage. That why I keep on saying USN CVs are hard mode while IJN CVs are easy mode. In order to perform decently in a USN CV, you need to have some knowledge and experience playing CVs and then from there, make use of whatever loadout you choose to help the team win. But potatoes don't take that all that into consideration. That's why you see while certain CV players can perform decently in USN CVs regardless of the loadout they pick, the overall stats of the USN CVs are pulled down by potatoes who have no idea how to use the various loadouts effectively. Why do you think the general stats of Bogue has more planes shot down but very little damage done? Because more people play AS rather than strike or stock. But why do my Bogue stats show a balance in planes shot down and damage done? Because I know how to use the stock loadout plus strafe and manual drop well (before the nerf).

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"

Well I'm just glad I don't have to deal with AS Essexs and Midways. 3 Squadrons of 21 fighters with tons of ammo is just too much. -
Guys, we finally got some news on the USN CV "rework" courtesy of Darth_Glorious: Only 1 loadout from tier 8 onwards, Lexi 1/1/2 Essex 2/1/2 Midway 2/2/2 and before ppl start celebrating, they get lower tier planes like the Kaga eg; Midways 2 Tbs are tier 8.

@Darth_Glorious regarding #7368, by "unifying all loadouts" means all US CVs only have 1 loadout right? -
Shokaku fighter can't catch Lexington Bomber, Bug or not?
pra3y replied to Hiro_016's topic in General Discussion
a) maybe lag? b) the lexi dropped its bombs right at the start even before you spot it to use it as a scout and hence its faster than you even if you haven seen it drop its bombs. c) depends on when you start seeing the bombers and begin chasing them. Prehaps the distance where you spot them is far enough so that no matter how fast your fighters are, they will always lag behind the bombers, especially if they travel in a straight line only and dont turn, which would cause their speed to drop. Say if your fighters made a turn to chase after the bombers at the start then it would have slowed down abit at the start. -
USN fighters have more planes and ammo so it helps you get rid of tricky situations. Locked by 1 IJN squad while the other is preparing to strafe you? Strafe out. Need to get away from enemy fighters? You can use the extra ammo to strafe boost yrself and then reposition. In 1 v 1 click fights your fighters usually win. 1 fighter is a handicap but unless you're up against a competent AS CV its actually good enough. Their attack planes have slightly better survivability than same tier counterparts. The TB can usually one shot most non-capital ships if you land your drop well. From tier 8 you get the 1000pd bombs which can do alot of damage. Having 1 TB is a slight problem but can be negated by bombing a target first to destroy AA mounts and then going in for a torp drop. DB Rng is a problem, but given the size of BBs and some CAs from tier 8 and up its actually not that bad. Furfiling all 3 role role is admittedly harder for USN CVs and impossible on Lexi if you play strike Lexi but I have to say I'm enjoying the line. If you look at my USN CV stats, its all rounded in damage, planes shot down and win rate. Even in a strike lexi all the way playthrough the avg planes shot down is abt avg and not in the red. I honestly feel that the problem is a difference in style. If it makes any sense, IJN affords you the flexibilty in playstyle with multiple squads while USN is an all out all or nothing style with stronger individual squads that require some precision. Its like grunts vs elite soldiers. Tons of grunts can overwhelm enemies while elite soldiers, though lacking in overall numbers, can with precision and right planning take on strong foes.
-
I dunno why you guys hate USN CVs so much. Sure the loadouts makes it more difficult to play but you just have to change your playstyle and play by its strengths. If you play it like IJN CVs or you prefer IJN CVs style of gameplay then of course you'll find USN CV bad. Its like playing NC as a brawler and then wondering why it can't brawl as well as a Bismark.
-
Party pooper. You know how rarely I meet people willing to throw planes into my AA now adays. Well his team won but he certainly didn't. Probably got a negative income from that round.

Funny and sad game situations shown with map screenshots.

Friendly Dirpitz spawn at the black circle and reverse at the start of the game while the other ships pushes c and went along the orange route. Not to be outdone by a fellow border scrub, enemy Nagato patrols the perimeter of the map -
