Well, another WG weird game mechanic I'll stick to troping them then.

Well just had a game where the TBs had to go through the AA aura of a Conqueror which was probably AA built. You can be assured that it will shred your TBs no matter what you do as long as you're within it's AA range. Probably can get off about 2/3 torps out of 12.

Indeed, it seems exactly like the test she conducted. I wonder though, why the bombs do nothing against German CAs. The wierd thing was in my first Lexi game on the PT, the other CV player told me he got 2 citadels worth of damage off a Prinz Eugen. So super RNG on the arming?

Eh I don't have a tier 10 USN CV yet so I can't tell you the difference between them. Speed wise it feels normal, neither too slow nor too fast, like an average kind of speed.

Don't scare them too much, that's enough numbers as it is ;) Imagine a CA taking 30s to reload or a BB 50s

Nope, slightly stronger but it wouldn't be too strong. Will probably lose slightly lesser planes going in and be slightly faster.

@Butterdoll Just to show you one aspect of CV game play alot of non-CV players either don't realize or take into account. Take a USN CV for example: If all your planes in a squadron gets shot down, while the planes rearm, they suffer from a time penalty resulting in something like this: Note squadron 3 and 4, those are the squadrons that just got wiped by the enemy DM. Note that the timing is that long even with the aircraft servicing expert skill which cuts the rearming time by 10%. What about a squadron that is not wiped out? It'll still take about 30s to rearm them and another 10s to launch them. So while people seem to think that a CV's infinite range have no drawbacks at all, there are actually checks and balances in place, in this case, time. That rearming time doesn't even take into account the time needed for the plane to travel from one point of the map to the other. While planes are certainly faster than a ship, they don't go at light speed. So there may be times when its not that the CV doesn't want to help you but given such a limitation/balancing factor they are unable to help you.

Decent. With the Air Groups Modification 3 mod, I've thrown them against Midways, DMs, Minos and the likes. You will lose planes, but they will not melt like butter. In fact in the screenshots above, I actually one shot the Montana with those TBs. It'll punish poor players but give players who make an effort to minimize damage from those TBs a good chance of surviving while also not make the CV player suffer from not being able to drop at a ship. So I would say its pretty fair. Will still prefer them to be tier 9 though.

I usually bait with 1 fighter and the TB while the 3 DBs go about doing their stuff. Then from seeing how the other CV plays I can roughly tell the level of skill and whether I'll have an easier game or not. I usually don't go to map edges unless absolutely necessary or spread out too much.

@El2aZeR Some numbers for your with regards to AP bomb damage: Also this : Man this AP bombs are wierd, against a Prinz Eugen I barely did any damage despite numerous drops but against a Saint Louis and the Mino above it can deal fairly decent damage.

Nah. I can usually tell within the 1st 2 minutes what loadout the other side is using. I usually send my fighters out first to scout before sending out my attack planes so I plan as I scout.

Can't remember the amount of bomb hits sorry. Well I guess they're essentially more balanced right now because AA can take care of them and they're not as overwhelming as in the past where you have them swoop in at speed, drop torps and fly off into the sunset. The flight control modification 2 mod increase speed while Air Groups Modification 3 increase health. Only available for tier 9 and 10 CVs.

Actually it seems more worth it to play with HE bombs if this goes through without the 1600lb bombs (probably next stage of the test?) since with HE bombs you do a maximum of 10,800 damage per squad while the AP does maximum 8000. The only real benefit with the AP bombs right now is that the drop pattern is more accurate I guess.

Apologies I meant I rarely check the other CV player's stats before a game starts. I just find out what loadout he uses when the game starts.

Currently it the 1000lb ones. Drop pattern is that oval shape drop patter instead of the GZ's drop pattern.

PT's on, go have a go and see how CV play is like. Might as well try it out since you don't have to "suffer' through the line yet.

I rarely scout. Sometimes I see a potato stat but the guy still knows how to play. Better to see how the guy plays in game in the first few minutes rather than basing it on his stats.

So I sped through all they way to Midway on the PT and had a 1v1 match against an enemy Midway. First impressions are that the AP bomb is kinda meh, but probably because no one is freaking playing BBs. Did about 22,000 damage with 2 AP DB squad from the Essex on a NC. With regards to the survivability of Midway's tier 8 TBs, I would say its ok? Lost 2 TB going in while under defensive AA from a Midway. 2nd time no pictures but I lost about 5 TBs I think without defensive AA on. This is with the health mod. Will probably try the speed mod and see how much difference it makes.

No problem, have another: On topic, granted there are plenty of potato CVs out there but there are times where a CV player is focusing on something or just unable to help you. I had a match once where I couldn't cover my DDs (a 3 shima division) due to heavy AA (a DM) so I told them to just bail the cap. They didn't run away far enough or back towards other allied ships with better AA then them and got spotted by the enemy CV and were attacked. None of them died but they blamed me for not giving them air cover when I already warned them minutes earlier I couldn't give them any air cover. I went on to strike ships with lesser AA, helped to spot the enemy DDs including a Gearing. Meanwhile in that same game we had 2 BBs scrubbing the borders and that was the North map so you can imagine how far those 2 BBs were from the action. Yet that DD division didn't once blame them, no "why are you at the border doing jack all". Spotting can be a tricky thing. You'll realize it soon enough when you start one of the CV lines ;) Its abit more complicated then what you'll expect, one of which is what DFens_666 has said, limited squadrons on US CV lines.

    Matchmaker going hard

Looks fine to me. More exp and credit is always good. On the other hand I had an exciting MM this morning: I'm proud to say we won and I was not sunk by any DDs despite the best effort of the enemy shima.

I guess from my point of with 2 USN fighter squadron I can more or less have air control over a Taiho. Against lower skilled Taiho players I can already wreck them and establish air control with 1 fighter, so 2 with seal the deal. Against equally skilled Taiho player I have difficulty, but that 2nd fighter will force him to be more cautious in his gameplay and give me more of a fighting chance. Same against higher skilled Taiho players, I get more flexibility in dealing with their planes which I couldn't have done so with the 1/1/3 and was at times frustrating. Regarding losing a bomber, would it hurt my damage? Probably. Is it worth it? I'll take it. I didn't want to play the 2/1/1 because it is next to impossible to deal worthwhile damage but at the same time it allowed for pretty solid air control. While a 1/1/3 is good in the damage department it is more difficult to establish air control over other CV players depending on their skill level. I rather have a higher chance covering my teammate so that they can kill/damage more stuff than trying to solo kill/damage everything, which is more time consuming on my end.

Until you meet a 3/2/2 Taiho or a 3/0/2 Essex, then you'll feel like bashing your head in.

Yeah but for example if faced between 3 squad of 4 TB each or 2 squad of 6 TB each I find it easier to shoot down the 3 squad of 4. If I keep on maneuvering you either have to just drop it and hope I eat alot of torps or maneuver your planes to a better drop position while getting exposed to my AA fire. To be fair we don't know how workable those tier 8 TBs are but since you can use the increase health module we'll see. I'll probably try out on the PT later and see how it goes.
