I have to admit Lightning is the DD I enjoyed playing most
-
I've just never really got the hang of DD's. Probably I'm just too old and my reactions are too slow. I finished researching the RN line but never bought Daring US line to Nicolas and also have Sims which I bought to do the Dunkirk scenario and Monahan which I won in a crate Pan Asian to T7 because I needed a PA to do some sort of quest and people told me Gadjah was good (I also had the unique commander I got from some quest and needed a home for) T61 won in a crate but otherwise no Germans No Russian No Japanese I have Aigle but have no idea why and have never played her

This is just nonsense. You can only do this if you are top tier. For level tier uptiered (which is the norm for T8), yiu really struggle to do any meaningful damage or sink any ships.

CV Hotfix is here! (How to make the Big E stand out even more).

Nope. SE wasn’t on the recommended builds when the rework dropped. -

Maybe you specced tour captain before all the nerfs that made SE the best choice ( which is the case with my Lexi captain) Or maybe you are levelling a new captain. Its a crap, lazy,hot-fix. If they are going to buff HP, it should be on the core HP not some optional skill. -

So if you don’t have SE, you remain screwed? Nice. -
Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
gustywinds replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
Not true. Certain classes and ships are much more prone to uptiering because of the number of ships queuing. The specific issue at the moment is T8 carriers because there are lots of them but ships like Tirpitz, Massachusetts and others are also higher than average for up-tiering. -
So you get wiped out even quicker?
-
That is indeed the fundamental problem
-
Problem is T8 gets uptiered at least 75% of the time by my experience. I played 2 games this morning. First was with Shoka and MM was 7-9. I did 79k damage and we won. Second was Lexi, MM was 8-10 with only me a DD at 8. 5 BB’s including Kremlin and Bourgogne, 5 including 2 Worcesters, 2 Hindenburg and a Minotaur. Their DD was a Flint. I lost 6 flights of planes before I got a single hit and that was a suicide rocket attack on one on the Hindenburgs. we lost, I did 19k and negative credits. Enemy carrier (Saipan) did 35k
-
And all of the above is mind-numbingly frustrating. Fly right across map to find the isolated BB, maybe get one hit in if you are lucky. Repeat Spot DD - try to get a hit on him but he shoots you down Yeah, kill low HP ships at the end of the match IF their AA has been destroyed AND yiu have saved some planes And the endless planes isn’t true, you lose faster than you can regen. Given up playing until this crap is sorted.
-
Bah, you wanna try Kaga. Exists as method for other classes to farm plane kills!
-
Kaga’s high reserves are useless in high tier games as their HP is so low.

Uptiered CV Implacable = Unplayable. GJ WG.

I have unlocked both Haku and Midway but am saving up credits to buy one (at 23m now) -
Had three Yoshinos in all three games I’ve played today. Two on red team each time. Lots of torps around.

MM for carriers is so broken. With the prominence of premiums in T9/10 games it is very frustrating trying to get any sort of headway. I've just come back from a week’s holiday and played three games (Kaga/Shoku/Lexi) and got uptiered every time. Don't get too excited by getting Audacious, it’s very weak until you get all the upgrades and even then not great. -
There is a very strong push within the Navy to change that and call her Ark Royal
-
If they did a 3rd KGV ship it like to see 3 x 4 x 14 inch as originally envisaged for the class but changed because the extra weight took it over the treaty limit. Name? HMS Devastation in honour of the other famous fire starter

Nailing DDs

Vanguard should have had radar.

He is looking to penetrate high tier cruisers and BB with HE secondaries
-
Need manual AA and he is looking for IFHE

So, I’ve levelled the UK carriers but find Audacious disappointing , levelled US and Japanese and researched Midway and Haku but don’t have the credits to buy them yet so I thought I’d play my only premium carrier, Kaga, a bit to farm credits. I have to say I have never come across a ship so affected by matchmaking. At its own tier it is comfortable if unexciting compared to Shōkaku Against T7 or worse, T6, it is a sealclubbing monster. You can slam 4 torps at a time into fat, slow turning BBs like New Mexico with ease. Swat DDs and bomb CA/CL without worry. Guaranteed top of group unless you are really unlucky or dumb. At the other end of the scale, at T10, it’s useless. It’s T7 planes are just too weak and the super fast plane regen just provides more fodder for the AA cruisers and even “normal’ BBs. Up against a Kremlin it’s a joke. But the really stupid thing is you can loose 100 planes, do 20k damage and still net 250k credits. In a lower game where you can actually kill things, 500k is possible. But you get up tiered much more often than down. i won this thing in a box at Xmas, I would be very pissed off if I’d paid for it. ... Whine over. New subject: should I get Midway or Hakuryū when I do get the 28mil credits?

Secondaries : Cruiser HE power at 10 km or not ?
gustywinds replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
Most early WW1 era ships used manual direction but later had centralised control. By WW2 they had separate directors for main and secondary guns with manual fallback. Radar direction became widely used with different frequencies/ranges for main and secondary. Modern, missile firing ships, can track a crazy number of targets. The radar on the destroyer HMS Duncan which I visited a year or so back can track 1000 targets and give priority and firing solutions for them. A ship like this could wipe out a WW2 fleet without ever seeing it. Almost as good as a WOWs Russian BB!
