POINTLESS CRUISERS: major problems and possible solutions

Matchmaking disagrees with you - there is a REASON that BB and DD are the most played classes in the current gameplay I experience (Tier V-VIII). Why? Because they have SOME measure of survivability by either HP/armor or Stealth. No cruiser moving away from spawn has that luxury and with up to 6 BBs per match not survival beyond the first 5 minutes of the match. And that's why many people don't play them. ANY ship can rule supreme when played right - but tell me: Wouldn't a player who does cruiser well be EXCEPTIONAL when playing DD or BB?
  2. The thing is, from early matchmaking on and based on some statements from Wargaming (I don't have a source handy, sorry), the cruiser class was supposed to be the main ship you would see in each match and DDs + BBs would be the rare key assets that could make or break a game. They would need cruiser support to effectively carry out their mission or reigning supreme on the battlefield. Ever since I picked up WOWs again a couple weeks back, this appears to have changed. Every match I play has 4+ battleships in it and the supporting role previously filled by cruisers has been taken over by DDs. Why? My theory is that DDs (and maybe smoke bearing cruisers like the Brits) are the only ship class that has any chance of avoiding instand death from afar from the all too present battleships. Add battleships that have Radar or Hydro to effectively be able to act independently from any cruiser support and you have a ship class that has lost its purpose. I would love to see the game turn back towards a state where a match has maybe 2-3 BBs and 2 DDs in it and cruisers as the majority of the fleets involved. This would be so much more engaging as the current game style when moving anywhere near the center of a map in a cruiser means instand death at the hands of torpedo walls and/or BB cross fire from across the map. This commentary is based on gameplay Tier V - VIII - I cannot comment on the role of cruisers in Tiers IX and X which seem to be a bit more survivable there.
  3. Holy necro, Batman! But I have to agree on this statement and topic. Cruiser play around T7/T8 right now is just a pain. It has made me feel like I am just an XP fodder item for Battleships instakilling me from across the map - Especially if MM decides that 6x BB and 4x DD per team is a nice balance of ship classes. I have pretty much stopped playing cruisers and play DD in a support capacity, which nets me more XP, damage per battle - even though I am a cruiser captain at heart and would love nothing more than sailing those. Right now, I can't and that makes me sad. I don't have the perfect recipe to solve the issue but either a reduction in BB range or some other balancing effort between Battleships and Cruisers seems to be necessary to make the game enjoyable for all ship classes, respectively.

If you want a laugh go read US forum :)

@YukiEiriKun - the problem is that they were asked "Can we keep this ship after CBT is over?" from players when the deal appeared on Humble Bundle. And the clear answer from WG was "Yes! You can keep it after CBT." In plain text. From a developer (Gunlion). On their forums. This information is what many people based their purchasing decision on. Additionally, there were 1.000 tokens and an extra port slot in that deal that would greatly help out new players in getting a start (more port slots) into the game before committing more cash into actual in-game purchases. The Murmansk ship was part of a bonus code - so it cannot be refunded as it wasn't bought for gold tokens but received as an item.

I am one of those Humble Bundle idiots on the US server. I have never played and Wargaming title, although I got interested in the Free to Play business model with War Thunder and spent some money on that title. I got really interested in giving World of Warships a chance despite hearing numerous times that WoT was kinda meh and the Publisher did not handle the whole "Pay to Win" situation all to well. Regardless, I got onboard, got the Humble Bundle deal for wel over a dollar and really enjoyed my first steps into the game. Now comes the Murmansk debacle - this leaves a VERY sour taste in my mouth. I know that gamers can be a pain in the butt and are not easy to handle for any business (forum rage and whatnot). However, I despise developers making a clear statement and then going back on the deal (no matter that this was a 1 USD problem for many). We are talking about pixels that cost the company nothing and word of mouth marketing from early enthuisiasts here. All the youtube videos on thetopic are free publicity - you can't mess that up by creating such an upheaval because marketing thinks "We could have sold 4.000 Murmansk cruisers to those cheap Humble Bundle slackers." But, it seems they realised their mistake and fixed it. Clumsily done, but fixed.... I am just annoyed that people HAVE to stir up all that forum rage trouble, in order to be taken seriously by developers - reinforcing the picture of "entitled assholes". But that seems the only way to get heard.... Kruzenstern, on 26 June 2015 - 09:31 AM, said: Tier5 battles are gunna be interesting over there... I wonder how long until there is a 12 vs 12 Murmansk battle... 6 Arkansas + 5 Murmansk vs. 6 Arkansas + 5 Murmansk - that's how it looks currently - add in the occasional Yubari and a lost Chester or two
