Still you can see the reload time for you turrets, so why not add reload timers on the ui for the torps. It takes time to select torps, look, and then meh not reloaded, then switch back to turrets and shoot some more.

Instead of a minefield, you could make a red line before the actual border, something like 300 meters. And then a fine warning alarm when going through the red line, telling you that you have left the combat area and will self-destruct in 30 sec. Then ships won’t be able to get to the actual border for the aim to be thrown off.
