Dear WG please reconsider gradual dispersion of benefits for the upcoming v0.5.3 captain skills instead of strict "binary ON/OFF" cut-off points!

That's a really good idea. Skills need to be more useful for more classes/ships and create a wider variety of gameplay options. As it is now, certain ships have a choice between getting the same skill as everyone else, or being completely useless.- 32 replies

Actually, I'd happily play ranked again if those rules were applied. You'd be trying your hardest, even on what seems like a defeat, so you don't lose a point. -
Looks like you got the days mixed up a bit there. It's the 5th today, not the 4th. And the public test was only available from the 2nd of the month till the 4th.

Just don't target him in your shima if he is in a battleship lol. He doesn't like that. -
I think I'm gonna put the HP perk as the 1st T4 skill on german CAs, with the double DP AA gun damage being the second T4 skill. I always put the upgrade for 6 km AA anyway.

Well, except that someone mentioned that in this particular instance, the shima got 4 devastating strikes lol. I saw 2 of them, for sure, but I didn't notice the other 2 if it were true. Scaring shimas away is nice and all, unless my team happens to suck, which I guess goes for all ships. If I notice our team is not pushing or not providing me with any support, I got IJN DD mode and just launch torps.

What tier would the never built 1920 South Dakota be?

Looks like a tier 8, although I'm not really knowledgeable about this stuff. The guns, while more than the NC, fire the same shells as the ones found on the Colorado, it has comparable armor to the Colorado, and is only capable of 23 knots. Its displacement could mean it would have a lot of health though. Would of course need fictional upgraded hulls because it looks like it has almost 0 AA. -
Maybe bad luck so far in gearing. I've played 4 battles or something, and the only shima I faced was Raskeria... in a division with a zao. I felt helpess lol. Guess I'm nowhere near as good with DDs as I am with BBs and CAs, yet.

And not to mention how the USN DD, presumably the gearing if we are talking about T10, is more of a jack-of-all-trades than a pure gunboat. I might just be a noob, but shimas aren't as easy to kill with gearing as mutsukis were with farragut.

That's better than me. I got to rank 12 and I went back to 13. I don't think I went down a rank even once in season 2, and it happened in the first few ranks in season 3 so... it was a new, unpleasant experience for me lol.

The 2nd point is actually being done, to an extent, in patch 5.3. They said something along the lines of balancing ships nation-wise, and I think they only referred to DDs.

If you can't beat them, join them, right? I'm also grinding IJN DDs. I have researched hatsuharu but I don't know when I'll be able to buy it. So many ships to buy before that...

Apart from the reasons that have been discussed to death already, 1 more problem with the 3rd season was that it started so soon after season 2. I got to rank 1 in season 2, and I gotta say I was preeeetty damn lucky (did it in 77 battles lol). But I didn't even have time to play with my mates, with the holidays and all that, and then season 3 started. No thanks... I'll need to refill my patience tank before I try that again.

True. There are always solutions to facing a DD when in a BB. I can't say I', a big fan of multiple shimas on the enemy team though. If 1 misses, it's very easy to be hit by the other's torps that were intended for someone else. But what can you do right? In my opinion, a limit to both BBs and DDs is required. I say BBs too because of the whole situation that was created the 2 times Tirpitz came out. Just makes the game behave in a very strange way, and all balance is thrown out the window.

Go on the Shutter island map (shatter..) in a BB and the enemy having 3+ shimas... Torpedo evasion has to start at the beginning of the game, by quitting back to port.

I think it has to do with the fact that shooting enemy cruisers and, especially, battleships is a lot easier than shooting something as small as a DD. People think "whatever" unless the DD is right next to them. What they don't know though, is that they can get 10k damage on that BB, but hitting the destroyer with 2 salvos and taking out half its health would give them about double that exp.

That's amazing! On a more serious note, you can have modules incapacitated by shells splashing the water around you. This can also reset the cap.

I was in ARP Myoko recently, on the map North, and as I was running away I saw 2 orange objects in the sky. I thought "what are thooose? they're too high up there to be shells". Turns out, a fletcher had put AFT or had taken the range module and was firing at me from 13.6 kms away lol. They looked hilariously slow.
