    Royal Navy Tech tree Proposal

Lots of thoughts in previous posts on this fascinating subject ... - looking at BB and BC combined - and since RN is the biggest Navy for most of this period and lots of famous ships WW1 to WW2 ... - seems difficult to fit in everything important - but here goes ... (Criteria are: relevant timing, size and capability (esp. vs the existing US and Japanese ships already in play) , historical significance and distinctiveness/fun to play ... ) Tier I : Triumph (designed for Chile to beat Armoured Cruisers - cute little fastish pre dreads - 4 x 12inch and 14 7.5 inch - lots of fun vs, cruisers at shorter ranges) Tier 2: Lord Nelson - great Semi Dreads 4 x 12 and 10 x 9.2s ..... - again pack a lot of firepower ... Tier 3: Dreadnought and Invincible (no real choice here ... ) Tier 4: Agincourt (crazy brazilian design 7x2 x 12 inch .... - a 14 gun broadsise was a sight to behold !!! - also a bit fast for BB then and thinner armour - altogether very distinctive - can match up to the 12 x 12 inch US (Wyoming) and Japanese (Kawachi) Tier 5: getting complicated ... BB (vs, New York) - Iron Duke (Flagship at Jutland) and BC (vs. Kongo): of course Tiger is half sister to the Kongos and Renown/Repulse very similar capabilities and come with all the inter-war and WW2 type modernisations as historical ... Tier 6: of course Warspite is already there .. - but obviously need to add Hood as well ... (as completed she is pretty much a Fast QE and The prototype Fast BB ... ) Tier 7: really has to be Rodney (contemporary to Colorado and Nagato, so distinctive and aggressive with 3 Triple 16 inch all up front and what else can demolish a Bismarck with barely a scratch on her ... ) But very crowded here - need to also fit in KGV (well balanced ships and historically very significant) and Vanguard - the most beautiful BB of all ... Tier 8: Lion - (possibly best ever RN BB design and with 30 knots and 9 x 16 inch is best counterpart to North Carolina and Amagi ) Tier 9: G3 (ordered but not built - WNT) - let's see how they compare to Iowa ... Tier 10: N3 (The British Sumo ... (designed but not built - WNT) the only design with 9 x 18 inch to set up vs Yamato ... Very much welcome thoughts and views ...

    Design 866 Heavy Cruiser

Thanks for posting - very interesting design - looks bigger, faster and altogether more impressive than the actual Counties design - fully using the 10k tons with larger engines 105k shp vs 80k - higher speed 33.5 knots vs 32 and slightly bigger secondaries 6 x 4.7 inch~ vs 4 x 4 inch. Also design steps down to quarterdeck not flush like the Counties ... ... possibly vertical protection would have been the same armour patches over mags with machinery exposed ...
