Hood - Standard Edition is now in the shop
triumphgt6 replied to HMS_LIVERPOOL's topic in General Discussion
I did manage to shoot down 35 planes in one game - I specced for aa which means that even torpedo bombers are not safe if they try to be greedy! Only played 50 battles - 58% wr - I am not very good in her though and am sure I have been carried a lot. She is fun though as her speed allows you to move round the map like a cruiser. Guns not as accurate as the Warspite but not awful though I quite often see shells doing less damage than I expect - probably my aim. -
Seeing what people do with 3 or 4 torpedoes makes me shudder to think about giving them 40. And any Tier X that you can buy sounds like a recipe for disaster. I think should always play a silver ship at a tier before being able to use a premium of that tier. And maybe we need to introduce Torpedo awareness courses for those caught hitting team mates!

The mission was very good - got them all except the CV ones as don't play CV and the 2 destroyers despite yoloing like mad! -

Well they are making it accurate - these were the first Russian dreadnoughts and were by all accounts, pretty awful. -

Looks promising and they look beautiful. I wonder if WG are going to slip in an Emerald into the tier line up? Which was the worst possible battleship made by the British? - remember this will be up against the new Russian Premium! -
So in fact, there is a Dutch ship in the game - HMS Campbeltown! All we need is a new skin to change the flag. On another note, 350 years ago - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-40175458

Tier 5 Atlanta? Great aa but very specialist. Probably not too bad against destroyers - would need a special consumable ? smoke.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
triumphgt6 replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Met Hedgehog 1963 last night - nice to see a Perth in the battle - On estuary, he went left and seemed to roll up that side with allies. I went right in Belfast - capped but then pushed by a division of a Tirpitz and two Bismarks. We killed the Bayern and a Chapaev and then had little choice but kite away, eventually falling to a Bismark. However at least slowed them down which allowed the left side to cap A as well and although he and I both died, we won and took first and second on list. Slightly handicapped by a camping pink Bismark though I think he had received a bloody nose early on and retired Achilles like to his tent in the deep south. -
I was agreeing that we should have a Dutch Premium. However I would want this to be fun to play - getting a Dutch Emerald would be a pretty miserable experience. This is a ship that is going to cost real money and it has to be competitive. Maybe the post war De Ruyter is the way forward though I would favour a destroyer as this can be much easier to make balanced. Maybe Van Galen - Javelin class DD - 6x4.7" main guns, 4x40mm aa, 6x20mm aa 2x5 21" Torpedo tubes. 36 knots. That would be worth paying for.

I used Warspite in the last Tier 6 Ranked - didn't lose a game in her! Only played a few as was relatively rubbish player and felt being a burden to a small team unacceptable. Will probably use Leander and Warspite this time around, and Gallant if it is out!
-
I played with you the other night in my Hood - we both charged up the left side in Trident and rather surprised a Bismark I think - we won by capping, though I died and a lot was due to the brave Emerald who kept resetting our cap. I think we did alright - certainly no camping in that battle!!
-
But which would you have? The De Ruyter? The problem is that it wasn't that good and although it fought bravely before going down, raw statistics mean that it would be quite a disappointment. However I do agree that there does seem a vocal Dutch community here and one premium would seem very reasonable. I wonder how many they need to sell to make designing one financially viable.

How do you force people to do what you want?
triumphgt6 replied to fallenkezef's topic in General Discussion
The problem is multi-factorial. Yes, we have some players who even at the beginning of a game head in the opposite direction to the enemy; I think Esa's idea is worthy though mines might be better at fulfilling the same role. We then have the players boldly going - and coming a cropper, and then complaining of lack of support! And we have the slightly disorganised who mill about in no man's land being ineffectual. And we have some who seem to have not learned the very basics of how to steer and shoot. Or when not to fire torpedoes. It would, of course, be easier to herd cats. But once in a while you get a team where it all just gels and this is worth all the previous problems. If only you could elect to then play again with the same team! As far as attaining a certain skill level, I don't think this is workable. And how do you define skill. I think that one should not play a high tier premium until you have attained that tier in a silver ship and have abided by that thought myself (except early on - Bless me father, I bought an Atlanta (and suffered the consequences!!)) I think if you want to be thought a good player, make sure you can play the lower tiers adequately before progressing and don't Free XP up the tech tree. Free XP is to get modules in my book as base ships really stink on the whole - anyone remember the first iteration of the Fuso and Nagato! -

You are all of course correct but we are mixing real life with a game. The Scharnhorst is brilliant in game but suffered from the faults mentioned in real life. At Tier 3, the St Louis is a beast but in reality it was truly awful. As were the Russian battleships. The game would not be much fun if it was really like real life as no-one would hit anything, the games would take hours and maybe 1 person would sink. -
What you did with "The hunt for Bismarck" and why I hate it

Please don't take this as criticism but I think you have missed out on playing the lower tiers more. I didn't go above Tier 6 till I had an over 50% win rate. You learn a lot about positioning and tactics at Tier 3 - the ships are more interesting and you learn good habits. I see you mainly get First Blood - so do I! However Dropsiq, who is a great player, commented to me that if I wanted to get better, I needed to realise that battles are not won in the first 5 minutes - they can be lost then though. You need to work on your survival rate and if you live till the end of the game, you will get more XP, Credits and your win rate will definitely improve. Warspite is a great ship with accurate guns and a wondeful heal so it does suit your style. The Fiji, which is borderline OP at Tier 7 shows your weakness. This ship gets deleted if you are impetuous or careless. It too has very accurate guns but you cannot soak up the damage so you need tactics. Of course you can just play for fun but you are then a liability to your team as especially if you are playing a high tier ship, losing a strategically important member early on usually means defeat. My best battles are those in which I survive. Just had a great one in the Fiji - capped C&D unopposed on North, then sung round from North to South and killed the radaring Belfast, capped B and killed another dd and a Roon. Over 2000 base XP and huge fun. Do you division? - I never do but it is a good way of improving your game play. -

On the stats line, I can sympathise - my stats are rubbish as for the first 6 months playing this game, I was awful. This means my base level for the first 1000 or so games showed a W/R of about 48% with poor damage and rotten XP. I do think I have improved but will never be a regular unicum partly because my reaction times are clearly slower than the younger members and partly because I hate sitting at the back and sniping. However look at WOWS Stats and Numbers and you can get a set of graphs which will show if you are improving - here are mine - nothing special but a trend towards up. -

Not sure about Conqueror but the others are all just what I have hoped for. And I don't play Tier X so very happy - In KGV and Nelson they have two very interesting ships, different to anything else in the game and will be interesting to see how they play. Clearly a work in progress but they look gorgeous. I imagine an R class BB will appear somewhere so that it can appear in the Russian line though. -

This was Russia's first dreadnought and even when introduced, it wasn't thought to be very good! They were laid down in 1909 and have no torpedo bulges so be a huge target for any dd. However as they are Russian, I am sure that the polishing will mean that it is the best Tier 5 battleship! Agree about the forward aa guns - maybe being put in those caused some of the mutinies seen on this ship! -

It does look like Vanguard but Vanguard was based on the Lion design using old 15" guns - hopefully this will be as you say, a Lion with big guns. HP not very good for Tier 10 - not much better than Hood! -
Agree - I confess to buying the Hood after a couple of days - I was going to hang on but I couldn't resist. The campaign was certainly fairly easy and the tasks were very reasonable.

The Carrier Buff Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo
triumphgt6 replied to CatOnKeyboard's topic in General Discussion
Surely if we want a game depicting the time period covered, carriers are an integral part. The war in the Pacific showed how the power of the battleship was completely negated by air power and that they became a support ship as opposed to the spearhead. I think this game shows a good progression through the tiers with lower tier CVs having a fairly hard time and higher tiers having faster more durable planes and many more of them. I don't play carriers as the actual gameplay does resemble a board game really and is less engaging and the removal of manual drops and strafing from the lower two tiers seems counter intuitive. As someone who sails an Atlanta from time to time, I rejoice when I see a CV and try to support the destroyers in my team from spotting and attack. When I first started, I used to protect the friendly CV but they rarely wish to be escorted these days and in fact the Atlanta, in my opinion, is more useful supporting destroyers with the advent of radar. -
I found the Minotaur was like playing a Tier 10 Atlanta - or I suppose, though i don't have one, Flint. Awful shell trajectory but stunning rate of fire and very squishy. Only played a few games badly but the Fiji allows a much more fun game - you can bounce shells when angled, it is fast and agile and meets fewer ships that seem to be able to instantly delete you. Neptune and Minotaur have such large exposed citadels that gameplay relies on cover and use of smoke, whether it be yours or a division mate in a USN destroyer.

Tried to get on but after logging into teamspeak room, nothing seemed to work - I am sure it was my computer (Mac) and I was logged out. Will have to work on this so if something similar happens again I can participate.

Not letting me on -think will need to practice getting teamspeak working so won't make it

Use the wine wrapper - a little flakey but ok - the premium port is amusing as all the ship hulls are invisible!
