    OKT. Revolutsiya.

The amazing thing is that it is tier 5 - this was the first and only Russian dreadnought to be put into service and was described very unfavourably in the Jane's of the time. Nothing that they did in real life seemed to counter this opinion. To give it such effective repair parties, although they are limited, would seem to run counter to the calibre of the crews on her who had to put up with atrocious living quarters. Their bravery is not questioned, their training most certainly should be.

    Cruiser Survivability

I think the way forward is to reward players for tanking damage. If a BB gets extra XP for damage received and repaired, could that encourage less border sniping? Would also have time activated mine fields - spend more than one minute within 500m of the border and mines become active!!? As a cruiser player, I know that one to one against a BB will always be a challlenge but it is dispiriting to be one shotted by someone you have not even seen. I completely accept it will usually be due to inattention though. I would also like to say that I have learned as much from Dropsiq as anyone else on this forum or YouTube and although I will never be as good, his constructive criticism and help has really helped me improve my game. As a potato, it is beholden to take advice in the spirit it is given and I have much appreciated it.

Game looks dull since the new patch

You are lucky - since teh patch, ships keep going invisible - and I mean really invisible except for the accessories on them! You can see the railings and the aa guns but the hull and main guns are simply see through! My own ship does the same but unfortunately only to me!! No doubt WG will say it is the fault of the wine wrapper and not their problem! The same happened with the premium port and that was their response then! Still won 5 out of 6 battles!!

    The Fiji appreciation thread

Fiji is a joy to play; nimble, great guns, super heal and good match making. Belfast seems sluggish in comparison and although the IFHE is very effective, it just isn't as much fun. Edinburgh is just a bit bigger and is badly affected by match making. Although the heal is better, you are far more likely to get deleted by a salvo than in the Fiji.Brilliant at kiting as it bounces even 11" shells if angled. If I could only play one ship in this game, it would definitely be the Fiji. Had 672 battles so far in her and 59% W/R, always solo.
  5. Just had Spuggy in the same team on Two Brothers. He was in a Leander and I was in the Belfast - was having a miserable night but this battle was fun - he went west and I went east - some excellent spotting by the team in the east let me demolish a Fiji and an Omaha and charged the second Fiji who lobbed AP ineffectively at me and shot his torps early so died. Spuggy had clearly done sterling work in the west but had run into their battleships and died but not before posting a decent score. The remaining west side and our east side encircled the remnants of their battered fleet and posted a satisfying victory. Due in large part to our destroyers who spotted well against a barrage of Fiji fire.

    Is it worth coming back

Well I really enjoy it - I don't play battleships often as they are slow and I get bored - the Hood is at least quite quick but the size of an island! I play RN cruisers and IJN destroyers and have huge fun in both. Had not looked at my statistics recently but did yesterday and been serving up a 60%+ win rate for the last couple of months and although I regard myself as distinctly average, with a pretty average damage rate, I have a good positive Karma score of over 100 and seem to get very little salt and usually have friendly chat with both friends and enemies. I always play solo as wouldn't want to let down a division but try to play as a team player and get plenty of help from team mates. So i would say "YES - Go for it!"
  7. I think the more Dutch players play, the more likely it is that we get a Dutch ship.

With all these threads about the MM...

To be fair, I would want to be in the team with the Fiji and Befast. But it happens, and often the supposed superior team loses.
  9. You got behind the island just in time! I did wait for you to come out but the other destroyer did instead!! I would however felt bad so I am pleased you redeployed!
  10. You very kindly omitted to mention that your side won! Had one of those nights last night - took ages to win anything! I noticed that you certainly got around a bit and seemed to be doing jolly well! Well played!

Cruisers - a self fulfilling prophecy

Actually I have learned most from comments from members like xxNihilanxx who offer constructive criticism, which is what I took him to be offering. You only have to look at my statistics to see I was blindly thinking I was playing correctly. However some constructive comments have allowed me to really enjoy playing and to regularly be at the top of the scoreboard. Of course it is nice to be told how wonderful one is as a player and it can cut to be told that you are doing it all wrong, but I far rather have the honest opinion of someone like xxNihilanxx than someone just trying to spre your feelings. Dropsiq was a huge help to me in some of his comments which were couched in very similar terms and reference to playing statistics is relevant as it helps see what you can improve at. I am obviously much older than you, I can afford to free XP any ship I want and could just play Tier X all the time and potato around. But I don't because this is a team game and I am not good enough to really make a difference at Tier X. I can and do at Tier 7 and I am not bad at Tier 8. I am always happy to be criticised and do my best to act on it. I plan to go back to Tier 6 and improve my stats on my Cleveland and the Leander! I have no delusions that my Atlanta game is ever going to be that good!

Cruisers - a self fulfilling prophecy

I have certainly been guilty in the past for not learning my way up tiers and had a 49% win rate - I reckoned I was average - but I wasn't - I was rubbish. I descended to the lower tiers and learned the hard way. I now reckon I am ok. I am not the quickest on the button and my observational skills at times is quite frankly comical, but I try. I also will try to help my team and will willingly sacrifice myself if called for. My damage amount keeps climbing and I now will only try a new ship if I have used it in co-op so I know how it works and then will try in combat. I mainly sail RN cruisers but the Neptune doesn't gel for me yet so I have retreated down the tiers. There is no shame in this but playing above one's level is not only frustrating for you as a player but far more for the team. When we see threads complaining about playing with idiots, we do sometimes need to ask ourselves if we are the idiots referred to! And that is in both deeds and words. Perhaps the only use for Katma is to see what your status is - if you are a good well mannered team player, on the whole your Karma is good. If low, maybe a little self examination of performance or behaviour is called for. So maybe a use for something we all regard as pointless?

Cruisers - a self fulfilling prophecy

I tend to agree with you - I play mainly T7 RN cruisers and both, Belfast in particular obviously, are massively OP! The little sweet spot in cruiser ability. The Fiji is the most fun as it has the heal which allows the occasional rush of blood to your head but has great guns, nice torps and the armour is a lot better than you would imagine - I was accused of cheating, in a very gentle way as, angling, I was bouncing 11" shells from a Graf Spee. It is also devastating against other cruisers - the Myoko is particularly vulnerable!

Cruisers - a self fulfilling prophecy

Got roundly cursed by a Tirpitz today who complained I had no skill as I burned him up with my Belfast! He ran aground during this which made life rather easier! Also just got Clear Sky in my Atlanta as for some reason the Lexington in the game had brain fade and kept sending his planes over me - set up for AA and 85 aa rating! He was even kind enough to wait for my aa cooldown to reset each time!! Got 52! I love cruisers!

    Player quality

Extremely sensible and I am sure you will be a valuable attribute to any team. We are not all unicum players but I think most people like playing as a team and winning. Playing tiers in turn and improving is clearly the way forward - It took me ages to get to my present just acceptable level where I think I am no longer a liability. I do get frustrated at times by some players but try not to voice these as I remember I was there once. I do hope you really enjoy this game and look forward to meeting you in battle.

    a little note

I bet you do if the Giulio Cesare comes out as a premium! Welcome to the forum and I do hope you get to enjoy many of the beautiful Italian ships in the future.

    What does Karma do ?

Wondered where the extra compliment/report numbers came from. O well, it is something - I give about 10 compliments to each report.

Supposed BB overpopulation vs game stats

Had a tier 7 game last night with no battleships - and it was great fun. No camping and a fairly close fast game.
  19. triumphgt6

What's your favourite ship, and why?

Fiji; stealthy, great rate of fire and very accurate. Allows the odd mistake without ruining your game. Has the chance of playing up to Tier 9 without being useless. And has torps that get you out of sticky situations should a German BB actually come close. And if they don't, you certainly make his day a lot worse!

    Radar and visual range

I do understand what he means - I think. Clearly the radar cruiser should be able to see him when lit up with radar, but the rest of the team should only see him on the Mini Map. One could argue that one should not actually see him but get a radar signal but that would complicate the game and unless you want radar controlled guns instead, I suggest viewing by the radar cruiser is best. You can argue about whether the rest of the team should suddenly find the target visible - in this game this is what happens though. It is not completely logical, but this is only a game!

Online ganging up, - your thoughts

If in Belfast or Atlanta, I know if the team opposite is even half good that I will be focus fired when spotted. And I encourage my team to do the same to similar ships on the red team. I don't take it personally but if you can kill the radar cruiser, it makes a huge difference to the game outcome. Sadly some people of getting a lot better at shooting at smoked up cruisers - I blame Flamu for this!

Hunt for Bismarck - Early Finish

Excellent campaign and reasonable tasks - would have happily done it for a lesser prize - too many Bismarcks now! But generous from WG so thank you.

The question remains: who built the best cruisers?

Very interesting debate - I like the sword analogy though I would use a tool metaphor instead. You can have a screwdriver, spanner or Swiss army knife. If you need a screwdriver, the screwdriver is what you want; However if you want a spanner, the screwdriver is pretty useless. The Swiss army knife is not a very good screwdriver and a pretty poor spanner, but it can make do. So to take this to cruisers, the Hipper was almost a small battleship - big guns but slow firing. The Atlanta is wonderful as an AA cruiser, as far as AA goes, but is not a strong surface ship. The Zara class were wonderful ships, but like the Hipper, exceeded Treaty regulations to achieve this. The Mogami looked great but sacrificed weight to such an extent to allow for the 15 6.1" guns that she was top heavy, and the electric welding and light alloys used in her construction were not up to the task. The RN cruisers were the Swiss army knife - not that great at anything really and suffering from trying to fit a lot in one package but they were able to fulfill a good number of roles. One to one, I would have the German or Italian cruiser but in a fleet, the RN cruisers were very flexible. The US however were able to produce a myriad of cruisers and lots of all of them. It is very difficult to look past the Cleveland - the fact that they built around 30 of them possibly makes you realise that they had found a winning formula. Good guns, great AA and reasonably fast. Of course it too is over treaty regulations The Des Moines was clearly the heavy cruiser to have as it negated the usual problem of slow reload but as Dropsiq has said, is outside the time criteria. In that case the Brooklyn class is the way to go. So my choice is the Cleveland!

    British battleships incoming

If Iron Duke is tier 5, she is certainly no Emerald.

What you did with "The hunt for Bismarck" and why I hate it

I don't see it would work - anyone can have a tier X these days even if not very good - I have a tier X! Maybe what we need is proper team battles so that the standard can be raised. Those of us who don't meet the grade can stay playing random and trying to improve. I did have one positive today - my birthday and finally hit over 100 Karma!
