Here at BoatyMcBoatface we are recruiting cannon fodder and by that we mean a valued members of the clan. We’ve been the odd member short for Clan Battles recently which can get frustrating and the utopian dream is to field two teams at once. About us: We’re called Boaty McBoatface, arguably the best clan name ever. We have around 20 daily active players, 35 weekly active players and 16 who participate in Clan Battles. We play Clan Battles, Random Battles, Scenarios and even some very weird matchups, historical battles and shenanigans in the training room. Our age range is mostly 20's, 30’s all the way to 60’s which we’d like to think gives us a more mature edge, but the conversation in discord may indicate otherwise. Variety is the spice of life, although we primarily speak English we have players from across Europe: United Kingdom, Finland, Norway, Turkey, Portugal, France, Greece, Germany. Fun comes first, of course we want to win (oh so badly), but not at the expense of fun, fairness or politeness. About you: You have at least one tier 10 ship and are happy to participate in Clan Battles. You can use Discord/In-game voice to chat. You’re simply a lovely person. We have been trying to play music on our ship’s horns, if you can hit those high notes in ‘Lady in Red’ you’re a shoe in! I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight I've never seen you shine so bright I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance They're looking for a little romance, given half a chance And I have never seen that dress you're wearing Or the highlights in your hair that catch your eyes I have been blind The lady in red is dancing with me, cheek to cheek There's nobody here, it's just you and me It's where I want to be But I hardly know this beauty by my side I'll never forget the way you look tonight I've never seen you looking so gorgeous as you did tonight I've never seen you shine so bright, you were amazing I've never seen so many people want to be there by your side And when you turned to me and smiled, it took my breath away And I have never had such a feeling Such a feeling of complete and utter love, as I do tonight The lady in red is dancing with me, cheek to cheek There's nobody here, it's just you and me It's where I want to be But I hardly know this beauty by my side I'll never forget the way you look tonight I never will forget the way you look tonight The lady in red, the lady in red The lady in red, my lady in red I love you -
There are a number of people out there who just say adapt your play style the British cruisers are actually good if played correctly and they are 100% correct; however I have tried playing all 4 types of ships and eventually found I preferred cruisers, they hit that middle sweet spot for me between speed, armour and firepower. My particular favourite way to play is to use HE about 70% of the time, I simply enjoy setting other ships aflame. The Cleveland for me is a personal favourite as it's a light cruiser that has a large number of guns and quick reload that allows me to burn BBs and then run. Now I'm British and like the history of the Royal Navy and let's face it to one degree or another we are all a bit patriotic and do like to gravitate to our nation's ships, which means I would much rather play a British cruiser than an American or Japanese one and quite frankly I want to burn Battleships. I'm not asking for a god like ship that changes the meta, I just want to play British cruisers in a similar way to the other cruisers because that's where I get the most enjoyment and I think Wargaming have really missed a trick as people like me are less likely to drop money on new ship slots/consumables. So personally it isn't about doing well in any given game and adapting to a certain playstyle, it's playing the way I enjoy the most and British cruisers simply don't allow that particular play style. So even if by some miracle I get great with just AP and constantly start ranking in the top, 3 I just won't be having as much fun and I'll be playing a lot less, which will be a real shame as I was so excited about British Cruisers.

Well I'm glad that someone of such official standing had given the 'proper' reply in the 'correct' place. On every forum in the world there's someone like you, some petty self-imposed moderator who thinks that because they are active in the forum that means they can deem a post worthy or not and start cutting down people for voicing opinions or asking questions that may have been asked elsewhere. How about next time you start getting judgemental and supercilious you just don't post anything and move on to the next topic?

@Mr_Mistery That's fine, each to their own, that's the joy of this and many other online games, we all find the play style that suits us! I like to be a bit of a firebug in cruisers and Wargaming have decided to stop this particular style of play in the line of cruisers I most want to play, I don't care for torpedo play, I'll leave that to the DDs! Good hunting out there with your Bismark. @mikelight1805 I'll probably wait for a sale and get the Belfast, the premium ships are a bit pricey for my blood when at full price, although the youtube videos of her look amazing. @_cosmo You don't have to be a [edited]

My Grandfather was Able Seaman Ronald Hawkins who was a Pom Pom gunner on the Destroyer HMS Quality (G62) which attained 4 battle stars, he passed away last year and I wound up with the strangest war diary in my possession, he didn’t write it and it appeared to be an unofficial carbon copy of the ship’s movements, general crew atmosphere and accounts of battle and manoeuvres with other ships. It also had a full list of the ship’s company which seems pretty amazing. I could find no record of this document online and there is only a very small amount of information about this seemingly almost forgotten ship. I decided to undertake the mammoth effort to type it up digitally and created a website for the HMS Quality, I feel that she deserves a memorial and I doubt anyone else has one of these still in their possession and if I don’t do this, the information will be lost to time, so I created a website with all information from the war diary. www.hms-quality.info – all 10,000+ word of the war diary. http://www.hms-quality.info/ships-company/- All 471 officers and enlisted men who served aboard. http://www.hms-quality.info/about-hms-quality/ - Full information about the ship http://www.hms-quality.info/media/ - All images and pictures of the original document for reference. I hope you get the same amount of joy from this as I do and I’m sure there are people out there with a personal connection to this ship the same as me who will learn something about their loved one’s lives aboard. Who knows some of the company may still be alive and have memories come flooding back. Please share to keep the memory of the ship and those who fought aboard her alive! Thanks, Adam

I digitised the war diary of HMS Quality (G62)
Awesome5auce replied to Awesome5auce's topic in Off-Topic
I’m guessing they were there in the harbour when it was all signed but from reading it they were much too busy with other duties to take part in any official end of war celebrations. glad it inspired you to read up on Vian and Cunningham, until reading the document I hadn't even heard of these names. I’ve contacted both the Imperial War Museum and the National Maritime Museum via their respective websites. Who knows, maybe they’ll want it. Luckily I am in London so if I need to drop off the item personally rather than posting I can get to either without much difficulty. I’d just like it to go to a good home. Thanks again for your suggestions!!- 8 replies

I digitised the war diary of HMS Quality (G62)
Awesome5auce replied to Awesome5auce's topic in Off-Topic
Wow that’s a long reply, I am really glad it brought you so much pleasure! Thank you for taking the time to go over it in such depth. When it comes to World War 2 my knowledge is more planes than ships, so any blanks you can fill in are very welcome! I suspect you are right, the missing word is most likely complied, I am however reluctant to add it as I’d rather not guess and put it information which is incorrect. I’ll get the battle stars changed to honours, that was my mistake, on the about ship page it is written correctly at least. I always found that a bit ironic that she was broken up in Japan by the Mitsubishi corporation, I suspect my grandad didn’t ever know this piece of information; I’m not sure how he felt as he had no animosity towards the Japanese or the Germans, he was there with his mates doing a job that had to be done. “Perhaps they were waiting for the official transfer, had no other duties, decided to spend their time doing this, feeling proud of their former ship and wanting its history to be taken to heart by the new crew, then made a carbon copy for themselves, or for a ship mate.” - That is a very interesting thought, I hadn’t considered it, the diary tone changes consistently so it may well be a compilation from a number of individuals which was created when they were about to lose their ship and given out to those individuals who wanted to preserve the memory of their travels. https://en.wikipedia...nder#Destroyers – this is in the diary towards the bottom, she arrived in Tokyo bay a day after the big battleships and according to their guide after they berthed further down the river they were the first ship British ship to dock at Tokyo. - “At 0900 we entered Sagami Bay where the British and us fleets lay at anchor; at 1200 King George V, Quality, Napier and Norman Sailed into Tokyo in line ahead, battle ensigns flying at the masthead and for the first time “Jacks” at the peak. who would have imagined that when we left Sydney 2 months earlier that we should sail in to Tokyo Bay before we sailed into Sydney Harbour again? Duke of York flying the flag of C-in-C had entered the day before with the Missouri and the first of the U.S. ships. We tied up alongside King George V and transferred our mail. “ Thanks again for taking the time to read it, transcribing it I actually understood far more about the ship than the stories I was told when I was little, there was real context and real human emotion whether or not it was an officially commissioned document or just an informal log. I wouldn’t know where to start when it comes to seeing if a trust or archive would want the original so if you have any thoughts they’d be most welcome!!! Thanks!!! Adam- 8 replies

Thanks for that, for transcribing about half of the text I used speech recognition software and it doesn't always understand the difference or context, so "our mail" becomes "are male." I haven't a clue who to go to regarding historians, this partly the reason for the site, so it's up there for the world to see! I hope that the crew list is going to be of use to people, that was the most frustrating part to transcribe.- 8 replies

A few notes: The ship’s speed was listed as 33 Knots in the diary, yet Wikipedia only states 31.5 Some typing errors may have occurred and spelling mistakes so please let me know. If you have further information please let me know, I'd love to add to it. Any of the pictures used as from Internet searches and I do not own the copyright, however as they are over 50 years old it matters not.- 8 replies

Still seemed strange, I've not seen that happen before and I've certainly never been that lucky playing as a Battleship. It all went a bit HMS Hood

I just upgraded to the Omaha and on my very first battle something happened to me which I have never seen before, a battleship about 10KM off hit me with a single shell and i exploded, i had received 0 damage up to that point. I still suspect foul play, but regardless the armour is like tinfoil.

I’m still pretty new but I’ve played all classes and like the battleships and Cruisers the best. So far I’ve only stuck to the US lines as they feel a little bit more familiar. My current ship is the Phoenix which I hated at first but now it is fully upgraded with the ‘C’ hull it is an absolute beast, got 198 hits in one match with it! I think my strategy needs work especially when it comes to when to use AP and when to use HE. With battleships I tend to outrange them and use HE, I don’t find I can really penetrate them at range so I may as well piss them off by making them burn. With Cruisers I weave and get close and use AP all the while firing, as I have scored some really good citadel hits at close range. With Aircraft carrier I us AP as I get citadel hits. With Destroyers I use HE and close the distance quickly while weaving to dodge their torpedoes. I’m only rarely using torpedoes as if I’m that close to a battleship, I’ve messed up anyway. How does everyone else play this and similar cruisers?
