Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Unintentional_submarine replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
But of course you can. The only really big difference is that some battleship guns can overmatch other battleship's sections. That's it. I don't know why you keep harping on the turret traverse. It is perfectly normal for cruisers. It is somewhat slower than Pensacola, but quite a bit faster than Myoko. -

It would ring true if there wasn't the issue of Kirov - Budyonny. While the size of the guns don't exactly change massively, gmaeplaywise they do. But that's ok. A) Because it is, there is no problem with power or problems with difficulty of playing, and B) nobody has complained about it. Yet when it comes to the battleships it suddenly isn't ok? I'm not going to lower myself to the 'Russian-Bias' argument but I can certainly see a lot of people thinking it. And what of the British? They can't seriously think about giving KGV the the 15 inchers that were proposed for her. That would be stupid, besides it would still be a step down the progression ladder, using their terms. I simply don't buy this. It was done in order to have an attractive Premium, nothing more. A Premium Scharnhorst with 380s wouldn't have generated much interest because hte guns are known, and people dislike the 6 gun issues (Myogi haunts a lot of people's dreams). Such a ship would sell badly. Ok, so keep it 283mm and let the silver ship have the option then? Why buy the Premium then? For some minor secondary differences? Nah, I'll just keep my Gneisenau with 283s thank you very much. This is not a balance, progression or anything gameplay related, decision. It is a pure money decision. -

By the virtue of being in T10 battles. Just like T1-2 battles generate very low base XP, T10s generate a lot of base XP. A T10 doing well will get a lot more XP than a T6 doing about as well. -
One would think so, but no. I never have pings above 40 unless there is a random spike (once a day or so). There can be an 'internal' block for all I know, I just know that desyncs can happen at lower pings. Since reloading the game appears to clear the issue, my idea of a 'blockage' might not be too wrong. The game moves on, but at a wrong timestamp from the server, despite having a good ping.
-
Desync issue. Simply speaking, the server didn't recognise the ship being where you thought it was. It happens now and then. Personally I have been killed by a torp that would clearly miss me. In fact I didn't take more active avoidance because I could see it would miss. Well, it didn't. As annoying as it is, it shouldn't be a common problem. If you feel it repeats itself through more than one battle, reload the game.

German BBs+ tier 6 premium French BB Dunkerque stats in 0.5.9
Unintentional_submarine replied to Darth_Glorious's topic in Battleships
They have their own rules and their own balancing done. It wouldn't be a surprise if Scharnhorst was different from the rest of the servers. Essentially, the Chinese server information is something that can at best give an indication. Not that it can't be right, but it is simply not trustworthy every time. -

I'm sorry to hear that. Because it is way easier to get very high base XP in the high tiers than T6. Essentially what it would do is allow the fail-division people a greater chance at very high scores. Obviously not the actual T6 ship. I hope our concerns are unfounded... -

Nürnberg and Leipzig were quite different however. They are only loosely considered one class. Sort of like Furutaka vs Aoba, but the other way around. Tirpitz had torpedos, Bismarck did not. Special gameplay (torps) obviously trumped even more hype. Tirpitz was sort of a testbed for torpedos on battleships. WG has been doing that sort of thing for a while. Launch a premium with some characteristics they want to test to see if people accept it and/or if it can work in the game. Grem: RU DD characteristics (failed, was way too powerful). Murmansk: Spotter plane for cruisers (turned out ok, so implemented for RU cruisers and an option for the rest). Tirpitz: Torpedos on battleships (success). Ishizuchi: Classic battlecruiser setup (had to be significantly buffed, but is good now; I'm guessing it is a testbed for the initial RN battlecruisers). Indianapolis: Radar for lower tiers (no idea what they have made of it yet, but they have stated it might come based on how Indianapolis affects the gameplay). Saipan: Radically different squadron setup (seems a success, premium carriers hinged on her success, might be the template for the RN carriers but that's pure speculation). Kutuzov: Template for the RU cruisers with smaller guns for the higher tiers, and for the big AA revision (apparently considered a success). Then there are ships such as Lo Yang that at the moment just appears to be a premium destroyer with a special ability, but might be a testbed for a future destroyer line, say the Germans (due to their improved HAS and the fact that the higher tiers has the issue of their guns falling out of the captain skills range). Besides, it wasn't as if they didn't make a killing anyway, Tirpitz might very well be the most sold premium of all.

Oh yes. Pensacola shells are heavier and have better krupp, and while slower than Yorck shells, those lose speed so fast that they lose out there too. And with the impressive normalisation and penetration angles, Pensacola just pens when other ships fail. Yorck's penetration isn't bad, but it can't match Pensacola's, instead her advantage is the supreme damage once the pen has been achieved.

Hmm... That camo would be interes... Ohhhh.... god! Too much... freedom! Can't... CONTAIN!

That's not an argument. Punishing, or rather warning people that teamdamage and teamkilling can have consequences are also intended for those people who don't exactly intend to hurt friendlies. Perhaps it is mostly for them as a real TKer will not be bothered by the pink. The point is the game is telling you, with a very visual aid, that maybe you should be more careful in the future. Yes, a friendly might be torp-blocking you, but that doesn't mean you can just torp away anyway. He might be YOLOing someone, often a bad idea, but at the very least you shouldn't pile on with team damage. Despite not wanting to hurt friendlies, inconsiderate people can be just as dangerous as intentional TKers. OK, so I managed to evade a fairly inconsiderate salvo. Good for the torper, but in the process exposed myself and I get killed in the following seconds by enemy fire. That salvo was just as deadly as if it had sunk me. It is those situations that the pink is intended to help remove. The reflected damage is there to ensure intentional TKers don't continue their destructive behaviour. You are bothered by the pink. Good. Now reflect on how you can avoid getting it again. Once complete you will come to learn that it is in fact a good thing. -
Dual-Purpose 3"/50 cal guns
Unintentional_submarine replied to SeaMonsterUK's topic in General Discussion
The guns on Kawachi stock and upgraded aren't the same, 41st Year Type and 3rd Year Type respectively. One was built as a surface engagement gun, the other as an AA gun. The former was in fact used as an AA gun in WWII, but in Italy. In Japan it doesn't appear it was ever used in that role. It is however correct that the 3rd Year Types on the Sushi are DP. So I guess they could allow for some ships to get a few more secondaries as it isn't tied to the gun (like AA power is) but rather with a label (IsAntiAirGun True; IsSecondaryGun False... sort of). -
I started out commenting on that as well, but decided it was of little consequence. She would receive a few more 40mm (I think it was just one quad added in the bow) and some 20mm. And while Pensacola doesn't exactly need more AA, it isn't as if she is Cleveland powerful, and since it isn't the big AA guns that get improved, her effective AA would change relatively little. But damn me if she wouldn't be sleek.

24 guns... the amusing bit is that they, aside from the fires, would only really hurt destroyers due to how HE penetration is calculated. -

What about the potential for fail divisioning for better results? Please tell me it won't count. -
I would support a concealment buff, the proposed C hull (1945) would be awesome. Reducing the detection range and making her look more modern. I would say it would put her at around the same detection level as New Orleans. But that's about it. She absolutely doesn't need more than that. My experience with her was that if not shot at, she is a terror. Every game I did well in her was when the enemies were occupied with something else or didn't think I was worth it. But then she was glorious. 100k games and Krakens were interestingly not uncommon. But if focused early on, I did really bad. Reduce the detection range and Pensacola will be easier to keep out of that focus. Everything else is fine.

I just told you about Des Moines. Almost it's entire AA suite is automatic 76mm guns (12 x 2 firing 45-50 rpm each). It would be absurdly powerful. -

Saw that... I was sitting there thinking "oh dear, sitting duck, torps incoming in a second"... Turned out sitting still was a good idea in that case (you could have launched sooner had he been moving). Mind = baffled. -

Unintentional_submarine replied to SeaMonsterUK's topic in General Discussion
Can you imagine the secondary capabilities of Des Moines then? By the way, the very guns on Des Moines I was actually trained on (same guns, slightly modified). They were perfectly capable of surface strikes, in fact that was the only thing I was trained in (since other more capable systems were handling the AA role). So I think it might have something to do with that. There had to be a cut-off point. It's not as if the AA guns weren't actually used for surface attacks, the 40mm Bofors were used multiple times in the Pacific against surface combatants (including against Hiei). But I think we can all agree that seeing those guns go off in short range battles would be pretty, but functionally useless. -

Aotearas and havaduck. They were divisioned with yet another guy that I can't say I recognised. And then there was another guy on our team who clearly knew you from here. Yeah my death was stupid magnified to the second power. A) I saw him as he overshot me the first time, so I began to turn away to present a small target. B) A low health Hipper blocked my turn so I was a sitting duck... And then he hit me for 38k. Glorious and nearly undamaged Ibuki went to a watery grave... It was even worse as until then I had managed to evade pretty much everything thrown at me. Urgh, it was one of those cruiser meets battleship moments. -
Ranked on T7 is the worst idea you ever had, wg
Unintentional_submarine replied to KubusSc7's topic in General Discussion
Considering that the OP twice mentions the 'battleship slow' turret traverse of Yorck, I don't think this is so much a post about what is viable and what isn't. Many of things brought up are simply outdated information, like that Yorck stuff. Hence why I only really bothered with a direct post on the subject.
