Roma - Tier VIII Premium Italian BB suggestion

Where was this on the ship? Based on the proximity and angle of the portholes on either side it looks like the very bow or stern of the ship, but since I can't see the base of the superstructure very well, it could possible be there?

    Jack of All Trades

I have considered it for a 'survival' build along with High Alert. It is risky, as you have to sacrifice either Vigilance or Superintendent, neither of which are nice to lose. But you get DCP down to 58 seconds with the flag.

Hardly a surprise. The issues with GK's turret arcs is that they crammed triples into positions intended for duals. If we look at the ship and replace the triple turrets with duals it is pretty easy to see that the turrets would be able to turn considerably further ahead. Lesta took a dual turret design ship, widened it and perhaps lengthened it, but they didn't provide extra room behind the superstructure for the bigger turrets. This is just terrible foresight. And worse, it isn't something they can just fix, like with Admiral Hipper (her guns now clips the AA guns) or North Carolina (C turret can now fire directly over the AA guns), as it is literally the structure of the ship that is in the way. Add to this the stupidity that is the catapult location on the two ships (no wonder there is no animation as it won't work if Dora's guns are trained over the catapult), and it honestly just looks like they didn't really think this through very well. I'm wholly unimpressed by their planning and execution of this, regardless of any power concerns I might have. That's just stupid. Least maneuverable T10, least HP, worst AA, most vulnerable to torpedos... Logic. What are they thinking? What is their intention with this ship? I believe firmly that they are not actively trying to create bias (positive or negative), so there must be a plan or intention behind why GK is this way. What is this hidden or misunderstood strength? I mean we keep getting more and more information that paints a very bleak picture of her power. As human nature is, once a perception has be made, it is hard to shake it again (look at what it took to get Furutaka out of that mess), so it quickly becomes a long line of confirmation bias. However, even if we are dealing with confirmation bias, it is still hard to imagine anyone overlooking the strengths supposed to make up for these weaknesses. Still... I can't believe they thought this was a good idea from the beginning, I mean they even nerfed the 420s recently. Obviously it might have done well in some way... but how, and under what circumstances.

enough with the cyclones. they suck.

I like the principle of cyclones. The first couple of minutes are usually great. But if the cyclone drags on it is not a positive thing. Reduce their duration to max 6-7 minutes and I think they will become much better. The potential of 12 minutes is simply too long.

CV is only contested by the enemy CV!

Not really. Musashi was also attacked over multiple waves. Should a Yamato ingame be allowed time to heal up it too would probably be able to soak up 19 torps. It is not really a fair comparison to say that 16 TBs attacking at once would kill a Yamato and then compare it to Musashi which was served by excellent damage control over several hours of attacks (and it should be noted shot down relative few planes, similar to Yamato in her final sortie).

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"

They are probably right when they say it is presently impossible. The question is, this is the second time this is an issue, and it isn't likely to be the last. Perhaps it is a good idea to create the software or whatever to make such distinctions possible. Imagine if something similar to this pops up every four or five months. The accusations of fleecing people, that are simmering right beneath the surface now, would explode.

Let's talk French battleships a bit...

Heh... those guns hit hard! And looking at her from the New Mex' perspective she looked really nimble. Too bad there wasn't a protracted fight, as that kill-shot really didn't say much about her armour (which rumours say is quite weak).

    Bezposhchadny

In a sense she already has. On NA if you play well enough in the Krasny Krym you get a chance at winning the Grem. And awful, and honestly quite disgusting, move by WG NA, but the Grem is there.

Uh... What? So what is GK's strength again? I presume when you say no turtleback deck that it also encompasses no other elaborate internal protection schemes, and the ship is essentially just protected by the belt and perhaps some thinner bulkheads behind that. Right? So if I understand this right, GK's claim to fame will be that Yamato can't lol-pen her from every angle, or frontally citadel her due to the 45mm plating. That's hardly a very impressive resume as far as I'm concerned. There has to be more to it than this. Well, this sort of does explain the weird citadel iChase got on a GK in his stream. Or rather, I hope not. The weird thing is, as far as I know the H designs all encompassed turtleback decks, and the bigger they got the more armour above it as well. None of them really went the same route as the British, Americans or Japanese with all-or-nothing. This departure from that requires a fair bit of explaining I think. And combined with the triple turrets it makes GK seems terribly weak for my suspence of disbelief.

Let's talk French battleships a bit...

It might be an important difference, but until we know the frequency or ease with which Dunkerque (and presumably the other French quad turrets) are knocked out I wouldn't go so far as to say it is essential. Sure, if they turn out to have a life expectancy of less than that of a Des Moines turret, then yes then I would probably begin to look in that direction.

    A Very Fond Farewell

Fare ye well. May your boilers work like right out of the dock, and the coal be of the highest quality. Like a few others I'm somewhat concerned about this. It's not as if communication has been an absolute high-point the last year, and now we are down two important people for the English team. I pray it won't mean a downturn.

    wargaming wtf

Probably something like that. The post flag chance is so minuscule that chances are none have happened yet since the introduction of the signal flags. But it is there in order to make those detonation increasing flags work when combined with the anti-detonation flag. At least that's my take on it. Seems convoluted to be honest. I mean AP has a -50% fire chance. Why couldn't Detonation work on the same principle? Minus 100% (with standard Detonation chance being 100%) ending up at a flat 0, and then adding the other flags for a resulting tenth of a chance of standard Detonation chance. Well, Detonation and sense doesn't really seem to go hand in hand.

Manual secondaries skill worth it for Yamato?

Farraguts and Ognevois will flee in droves before such a ship. Seriously though, I don't really think it will be OP. As highest tier a T8 will always lay a smackdown, with secondaries it will just be all the more pretty. Facing it's own tier secondary Bismarck will just be yet another battleship you don't go too close with. For the most part the secondary Bismarck will just score some extra damage around 10km (as that is a range you will see enemies enter now and then if you don't camp). I'm fine with that. Of course there will be plenty people that do the wrong thing and then get angry, but those can't be helped regardless.

You will receive a summons before court one of the following days as you caused hurt in my abdominal and oblique muscles.

Manual secondaries skill worth it for Yamato?

Indeed. And probably the only battleship where such a setup might be the best. Imagine having 10.58km secondary range in a highest tier battle. Oh the fires, oh the deluge of shells.

Great chance, however AP needs a greater contrast to certain backgrounds, like snow and ice.

Did you buy any permanent camouflages?

Not a single camo bought. But looking at the results it seems a third has bought at least one premium camo. And I'm afraid that sort of validates WG's stance. Remember, they likely prefer fewer premium camos out there than more, for the same money spent (in order to not water the 'specialness' of said camo down).

The Imperial German naval flag, does it have a place in WoWS?

I'm sure you understand that this isn't about the swastika emblazoned flag... but about the Imperial flag which isn't illegal at all if you don't use it in political settings or trying to stir up riots (and we can hardly consider World of Warships applicable for those scenarios, despite the heated feelings many people have over certain issues). And no Aslain's can't fix it since there isn't a mod for the IGN ensign (or Weimar ensign) that also keeps the later Kriegsmarine ensign.

Yeeessss... but there is a difference between being told it is worse and being shown exactly how it is worse. In any case it isn't the hangar that's the issue. It looks more like it is a problem with cramming triples into a design for duals. Turret Caesar simply can't turn enough due to the superstructure behind it. It would however have been able to turn to a normal arc had it been a dual turret. Turret Dora can't turn further ahead for whatever reason... there is obviously room for around 5 degrees more.

    H-41 Tripple Turrets

Indeed, besides need we really point out the discrepancy of the 203s? German 203mm AP is... not exactly in-line with the other nations'. Damage values are entirely down to balance considerations.

Ok, found a video that showcases the turret arcs a little better than the stream. After a while the GK goes bow-in and it becomes obvious. Oh, and GK has excellent armour right.

iChase's stream from last night saw the GK a few times, and the turrets are indeed pretty lousily arced. Looks like 40-45 degrees off the centerline.
