Look what I just found [3rd unit of the Admiral Hipper Class Heavy Cruisers]

At present she doesn't have Repair Party. Doesn't mean she never will, but since Repair Party (or Radar for that matter) is a binary decision to include, it would probably be one of the first things they included if that was the path they wanted to go down.

German BBs+ tier 6 premium French BB Dunkerque stats in 0.5.9

Certain ships have the citadel right beneath the deck. Orlan, Tenryu and Kuma are all among those (there are more). So pen the deck over them and you get citadels. This explains why battleships sometimes citadels Tenryu with HE as they shouldn't be able to against her belt. But her deck... But the German BBs will just HE citadel their way through battles against a lot of cruisers. Seems really weird and backwards to me. And now this... I don't think I can get a bead on these German guns. Everything screams that they are lousy AF, yet they keep getting nerfed. I must be missing something.

    I always lose..

You have a weird way of counting to 58... Take a look again http://worldofwarships.eu/en/community/accounts/500468861-AgarwaenME/!/pvp/overview/ But with the way you have been going at him... making things up is hardly a surprise (this is the point where you admit that you looked at the wrong profile).

    torp cant pin BBs armor

Hitting the belt through the TDS was totally possible as in many cases the TDS wasn't as thick there as further down. Maybe that was a weakness? Seems like it in the case of Yamato. But with only one torpedo to go on, it can hardly be called conclusive. I do remember reading a line about at least USN submarine skippers specifically being instructed in using a targeting depth corresponding with the connection depth of the various armours. How successful that was or how well informed they were, I can't really say (too little practical results to look at). It was a long time ago though. Was a kid at the time, so didn't really pay attention to the source itself.

Let's talk French battleships a bit...

No compartmentalised main turrets... That's going to hurt. There was hope with the HP numbers but they were changed, but we didn't have anything certain. Now it is pretty clear though.

Nope, as she has a turtleback deck behind it, you will penetrate pretty much everywhere though. But Ships like Molotov, Aoba, Myoko, Shchors and Chapaev (maybe?) could be looking at some pretty unpleasant HE salvos. I mean Myoko won't suffer it at the engines, but her armour below the turrets isn't thick enough to hold out that sort of HE penetration. Bayern will be one of the most terrible HE citadel machines unless they make it so that the HE needs to more than just penetrate the armour.

The belt would probably never really be pierced as such, but cracking it or ruining the interlocking of the plates would cause some serious flooding issues due to the fact that the belt would be behind any torpedo protection system. As noted when Yamato was hit on the belt. It wasn't pierced at all, but the connection at the lower end of the belt was compromised. But yes, Oklahoma rolling over and settling on the bottom would naturally put some stresses, but considering that the majority of her hull wasn't compromised, she should have 'soaked' those stresses mainly on the torpedo defenses that weren't hit (which is also clearly visible in the picture with that being the crumbled plating below). That it was only in the torpedo affected areas the plates were lost or cracked says a fair deal about the damages they suffered in the attack.
  8. Considering that I would be willing to accept ships of all the categories under specific circumstances, but definitely not all under other circumstances, I can't really drop a valid vote. Let's use Zao, as invented as they come, but she serves a purpose, and while a highly polarising ship (her balance or lack thereof I mean), she is greatly loved by many. I think she is an absolutely wonderful addition and that she makes a rather fine hypothetical addition. On the other hand I would not be very satisfied with a similar ship popping up at T5 in the Italian DD line. Not that I think that position is in any risk I would like to add.

You are probably thinking of USS Oklahoma's more than a little damaged belt armour.

    0.5.9. Patch Notes

What? That has got to be a misstype of a sort. Otherwise where the heck will König be at? To those that haven't noticed, König is replaced with König Albert, the first is a König class battleship, the other the upcoming premium Kaiser class battleship. If this is true then there won't be any testing of the T5 silver ship, which would be rather disturbing. Re: The Tirpitz fix. It will probably be the end of the 10-13km citadel chance below the front turret. I thought it was just a peculiar weakness in regards to hitting the turtleback deck at the right range, combined with it being somewhat less inclined in that area. But apparently the armour model simply didn't cover the citadel properly. Real life issue or unfortunate modeling? I'm leaning towards the latter, but who knows for sure...

    Bots and MM

I'm sad to say that this is very true. When I'm in a fight where me and an ally are in a battlehip + cruiser fight against an enemy battleship, the chances are stupidly high that the enemy battleship will shoot at the battleship rather than the squishy cruiser. Most likely, by the time that battleship goes down, he will have done more damage than if he had focused the cruiser first. But killing the cruiser, or even nearly killing him, would be the move to improve the chances of victory. The battleship is obviously the most suited at soaking that fire, with it's greater armour, greater HP and heal. *at the higher tiers this somewhat falls off as engagement ranges increase, and most people have learned a bit* This unfortunately also applies to those high damage, low WR battleships. Their target selection is less than optimal, going for big numbers over important numbers.

Which had spectacularly crappy rates of fire. They tried somewhat realistic rates of fire for Furutaka initially... it didn't go so well. And Kirov, she had 20 second reload at first, but even that was too slow and got buffed to 15 seconds before release. 7-7.5 rpm isn't crappy at all. Not when Mogami (155) at 6 rpm is considered fast. Considering Königsberg has absolutely awful HE, she pays through the nose for that rate of fire. Don't expect matching rates of fire at T5, unless you expect equally bad HE. And based on weight of shells, which match up nicely with the penetration capabilities of ~150mm guns (the heavier the shell the better the penetration, with the German 150mm being by far the worst 'modern' shell of that type for penetration), one would expect a rather significant difference in AP penetration capabilities. So no, for presumably better HE (I have a very hard time imagining it to be worse) and better penetration there isn't a chance for the same RoF. Unless the actual ship is worse than Königsberg, which again is reasonably unlikely. Might not be better, but downright worse is Kirov. Let's not forget that Nürnberg doesn't get her best RoF either. Cleveland might be a special case due to her T6 situation, which I did mention last post, but Nürnberg is certainly not.

RoF of 6-8... it would be folly to assume max rate of fire as is obvious in numerous cases in the game. We need only look at Cleveland herself, which is below her own stated minimum RoF (which is obviously for balance reasons due to the entire T8 at T6 business). While Cleveland's case is slightly special, it also shows that RoF isn't a clear-cut case. Nürnberg is another bottom-scraper in terms of RoF with her 10 in a 10-12 possible range. And the list goes on. Hence I wouldn't put those guns at 8, but would probably expect 7-7.5 rpm. Until such a time as we know something more concrete.

If we use T6ish as the basis, then they will probably perform somewhere between Cleveland and Budyonny. The MV is a bit more than Cleveland, but 100m/s less than Budyonny. RoF is slightly less than Cleveland but it shouldn't feel that different. The turret traverse is also less than Budyonny but more than Cleveland. But in terms of weight of shell falls well behind either. So in guns, I have no doubt that they will do fine. Not as trololo as the Soviet 152mm but certainly good enough.

It might be down to the canvas covering. It takes a bit of the sensation of length from the upgraded guns.

I doubt this will make it. Even the 305mm guns will then be able to citadel up to and including Omahas and Furutakas with HE. That's just plain old stupid. And it would reward brainless HE spamming from the lower tiers. Back when Kirov was vulnerable to BB HE, it was changed specifically to avoid this, and now we get an entire line that can do that to not just Kirov, but all the low tier cruisers? Seems backwards in the extreme.

Most likely, but I have it on a few of my battleships and they are nowhere near as agile. Dunkerque nearly moved like a fairly sluggish cruiser.

As Kaseko said, that's good. That position was only good in theory or if you had time to pack the plane away before a battle. Turn turret Dora and suddenly the catapult would be inoperable. Not a practical situation for a game where we launch planes every few minutes in a twirling gunfight. But that only solves the least of all the problems. I'm still sorely disappointed that they didn't account for the bigger turrets in relation to turning them when they created GK. Someone really dropped the ball in terms of planning there.

    The "Situational Awareness" is gone...

Without it I'm pretty confident that hackusations would be 500% more numerous. Seriously though... hackusations and reports would be flying like sparrows. When people don't understand things, they tend to be unable to consider their ignorance. So, when I'm in a DD and I suddenly get deleted by a salvo of torps form nowhere, the enemy obviously cheated. He most certainly didn't use the mechanics to his advantage, because in his situation, which I have been in many times, I would run towards him and he would see me. So when the enemy sees me in the same ship as the enemy used, who killed me, obviously he cheated because I most certainly didn't play it wrong or badly back then. Besides, circles on a map... what use are they?
  24. Unintentional_submarine

enough with the cyclones. they suck.

Considering it can citadel the BBs about as soon as they pop up in a cyclone, I would argue it ranks as one of the great beneficiaries. And if the BB is angled, the range is short enough and usually on a cap (which also usually has cover nearby) that he can go for a ram, a sail-by or defensively get into protected areas. But there will always be times there one ship benefits more than others. A DM catching a Yamato looking the wrong way... angled or not that Yamato is screwed. A Yamato looking right at a DM coming across it's turrets... boom. But in the end, the most predictable ships tend to be the ones suffering the bad encounters more. Going straight for the nearest cap... well with last known position, it is pretty easy for the enemy to predict where that ship will come from, and position themselves in advance to take advantage of that.

    Broken damage model?!

Notser's video for today has a pretty extreme case of this. Two salvos in a row, 6 penetrations and 1 overpen. Only the overpen did damage. Even if we were to assume it is down to turrets soaking them up, at least one turret would have been knocked out temporarily. I have set the video to the first salvo. The second salvo is the most garish though, 4 pens for 0 damage. I would like to note that this is just readily available evidence. It should be obvious to anyone who checks his hit indicators that they often don't match up with the damage inflicted.
