Yes, most likely they would have worked. The length of the catapult is perfectly fine for a classic catapult plane carried by a battleship. Obviously such catapults (and it should be noted this counts for all the catapults) would never have been enough for the floatfighters that can currently be used. That location isn't all that bad considering it is close to the hangar and allows for a relatively small crane to be used. The main problem with that location is twofold. Firstly the only known plans we have seen have shown the catapults to be planned to be on the rear deck, and secondly in this game where we launch planes multiple times in a running battle, it would obviously cause certain problems to have the plane launch through the gunbarrels of turret Dora on either ship. And even if not launched the model of the plane would still be in the way of the barrels. It would, barring any balance issues (like constricted turret movements) just look really bad. [EDIT] It should be noted that the latest news I have heard have seen the catapults being moved to the rear deck.

German BBs+ tier 6 premium French BB Dunkerque stats in 0.5.9
Unintentional_submarine replied to Darth_Glorious's topic in Battleships
China had what amounted to a T2 cruiser (Chao Ho class) and a sort of T3-4 cruiser (Ning Hai class, essentially a very slow Yubari with 6*140mm guns). They had planned to get a larger more capable cruiser to replace the Ning Hais, but war intervened. So I guess a reasonable T5-6 cruiser should be possible. Add the post-war purchaces, like Anshan and Lo Yang (despite them being from each of the two Chinas), and you get some isolated ships, but not a full tree. But it is China, so my guess it is for their server alone, maybe with a potential premium for us... maybe. The reception of the RU/SU cruisers showcased the relative dislike of too much unknown or downright paper. -

I am missing an incapacitation: summary screen = 16, detail screen = 15
Unintentional_submarine replied to AlwaysBadLuckWithTeams's topic in General Discussion
Not as incapacitated with the red border, but as destroyed with the grey border, like AA guns and secondaries. If you count it (in the detailed page) it all adds up. In case you per chance overlooked it, it is is there between the 3 incapacitated rudders and the 6 destroyed AA guns. -
Sorry WG Storm is cool buts breaks balance !
Unintentional_submarine replied to Krikkio82's topic in General Discussion
Duration is the issue. 3-5 might be too short though, as people could just conclude "I'll wait it out" and not move up. The reason I like the Cyclones in principle, and initially, in a battle, is that it forces people to come together around the caps or natural bottlenecks. This leads to some very entertaining fights. But when it drags on it tends to simply cause one team fold like a deck of cards as they are picked off one by one. And if one or a few ships were caught in a distant location (say capping D on North) it can be a very boring thing to go through 12 minutes of it. -
The Dreadnought Challenges Thread
Unintentional_submarine replied to Ph3lan's topic in General Discussion
It seems that this proves that XP from capping should be reduced. It has been said for a good while by the community. I mean it was a good thing back when capping XP was added, but going too far isn't positive either. -

[0.5.9] 2 Bases Already Capped, Before Match Starts
Unintentional_submarine replied to t3h3th32's topic in General Discussion
Thank goodness for this change. It was just a cluster-crap most of the time. It was mostly either too many people going there, or too few. Sometimes even nobody because it was a low DD game and the ship in front of the caps thought themselves too good for capping (read: battleships). Now and then it was the right amount of people... but mostly it wasn't. Since they were essentially free and gameplay worthless caps, there was no point in having them non-capped already. The only contribution they added were a little bit of XP for no work and a whole lot of annoying gameplay. The worst bit is that they could very well lose a game for you for no good reason other than one guy took a few seconds too long to figure out that HE should cap it. Too much crap for too little benefit. -

Until you can fix it, I suggest using 'ss' and 'ue' respectively. At the very least 'ss'. -
The consequences of such a statement can be rather... unpleasant. Yes, that's a man eating his hat based on that saying. And did so on live TV. It resulted in it not being used any longer outside "I'm not saying 'I'll eat my hat' but..."

How long does a fire last (seconds)?
Unintentional_submarine replied to RedStorm1's topic in General Discussion
Basics of survivability: -15% duration Modification (in place of rudder shift or acceleration): -15% duration Flag gotten from Fireproof achievement (suffer 40% of your HP lost to fires and survive): -20% duration all in total: 60 * 0.8 * 0.85 * 0.85 = 34.7 seconds. Yes, they are multiplicative and not additive. -
torp cant pin BBs armor
Unintentional_submarine replied to major_sakamoto_mio's topic in Battleships
It seems the Germans finally managed to get somewhat stable magnetic pistols in 1943 after having essentially been withdrawn in 1940. But magnetic pistols were never more than situational or incidental. There would be few if any cases where a skipper could 'just' set his torps to magnetic and bypass the defenses. -
[0.5.9] Butchering Of Captain Skill Tree Continues? Let's Make The Choices Matter Again! :)
Unintentional_submarine replied to t3h3th32's topic in General Discussion
It is. I could go into a very long explanation why it is good even when you have fleet engagements. But it should be obvious soon enough. Just know that with SA you can play to it's strengths, like deliberately putting cover between you and the enemy main body. Still detected? No enemies spotted that should be able to see you? Time to take a hard look at the minimap and see where the enemy could have a line of sight on you. And since we know exactly how far our detection is (and we also know what detects us), which enemies have been spotted so far, where currently unspotted were last seen (if they had been spotted before), the enemy in question is quickly reduced to a couple of logical locations. The minimap alone can't anywhere near give us this amount of information. Just because there are situations where there is limited use of it, doesn't mean it isn't better. In fact it is so much better than everyone now gets it for free. The other T1 skills are even more limited. SA at least works always, regardless of you being attacked or not, regardless of secondaries or AA has something to shoot at, or you reloading one shell or another. You can always use SA, it is just a matter of applying it, using it's limitations to tell you something about the enemy. Like shooting, getting detected, then dropping off again. Based on your proximity to the target in question will tell you something about the enemy's forces with a direct line of sight to you. I often use my guns exactly to determine if there is an enemy DD that is presently not spotting me (for BBs you have to shoot over some cover otherwise your target will just spot you giving you no information you didn't have before). It is risky in certain classes, but it is a great tool for all classes. [EDIT] Another thing I forgot about, is when you sneak up on someone on the other side of an island. Estuary has a lot of potential for this. SA will tell you if the enemy is aware of you or not. This is important to the potential success of the ambush. The enemy might not be aware regardless, but I always assume my enemies to be competent, so if I'm spotted I keep a sharp eye on his turrets and his movements. But if I'm not spotted, then it doesn't matter that much if he is good or not. Oh he should probably not have gotten himself into that situation, but the only way to completely avoid it is to sit in the back or go up the sides. Anyone not doing that, will inevitably find themselves in less than great positions, no matter how well they have otherwise played it, as your own position is dependent on your team as much as yourself. -

Unintentional_submarine replied to t3h3th32's topic in General Discussion
What is the benefit for battleships? You will know when you can expect incoming fire. If you are spotted and you can't even see enemy battleships, they have a significant advantage. They can position themselves in relation to you, unknown. And you can't even know it. You can use SA to triangulate a DD. In divisions this is easy "I'm spotted" "So am I" "now I'm not." "I'm still spotted". Similarly if you know a DD is relatively close, if Detected falls off, you know he is behind an island or smoke. Often that allows you to pin him down to a very specific point on the map (as there is only one island around for instance). You can also use it to maneuver. Detected falls off? Now is the time to allow yourself to shift tacks and not fear getting citadelled by an enemy battleship in the middle of that turn. You are detected when you shouldn't be? An enemy has been sneaking around your entire fleet. Few things are as horrible as being sandwiched. Getting torps from the 'wrong' side can be disruptive in the extreme even if you manage to avoid them. Knowing he is there lets you take preemptive action. The value of SA is incredible for battleships. It isn't about being hidden or not, it is more about what being spotted tells you about the enemy. -

Unintentional_submarine replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
I completely managed to not answer you in a timely fashion (considering I have posted all over the forum), but in the end I saw little need for a lengthy rebuttal since it is clear that we disagree on a number of basic premises. Like Nürnberg's power or Omaha's strength (she has weaksauce AP penetration, while it is still better than the German 150mm AP). I still hold that with my own expected penetration of the British 6 inch AP (sitting somewhere below Cleveland and around that of the Soviet 152mm) I can't see it having the best possible RoF at T5. -

Indeed. Before Repair Party, people used to complain about Atago being a rather poor T8 ship. Afterwards... bloody OP. Repair Party not only gives her massive staying power, but probably also affects the perception of her in battle. Without Repair Party a lot of people might be more cautious than is good for them, with it, they probably feel a bit more confident that they can handle whatever comes they way, because "I'll just heal it away". I have to admit that I got that very feeling when I got with Ibuki and Roon. Not that I was Passive with Hipper and Mogami, but my own perception of staying power of the ships is considerably in favour of the higher tier ships. But let's not get mad just yet people. This is just datamined values, they often change and adding consumables is incredibly easy. Personally, I tihnk that since Repair Party isn't there in the first iteration of her, it indicates that she isn't intended to have it, or rather they didn't plan on it right away. That doesn't mean it won't happen. But should Prinz Eugen enter the game like this, I will not be getting her. I didn't like Admiral Hipper anywhere near enough for a Premium version of her. But why would they even bother making a boring copy? It seems strange. -

Unintentional_submarine replied to Comrad_StaIin's topic in Cruisers
Don't worry... we will have Petropavlovsk (Admiral Hipper hull sold to the Soviet Union) soon enough, because not enough Soviet Premiums, featuring 8km torps (obviously), AA that makes MK blush, and superior AP penetration that makes Murmansk laugh out loud. -
US Navy: Boeing Pegasus-Class Hydrofoils
Unintentional_submarine replied to elladaris's topic in Age of Armour Warships
The Germans actually had plans for some hydrofoils. The first design was a small attack boat (in fact all of them were, one even being a submersible hydrofoil). As is obvious, these little boats have no place whatsoever in the game. -
Oddly enough, WG EU English has been the slowest with new developments more than a few times in the past, so it might just be that once more they aren't on the forefront of this development.
