No, Dunkerque would still be referred to as 'she' in English. What the French say in French doesn't really have any bearing on what you do in other languages. French traditions in French, English traditions in English. Meaning, if Admiral_noodle had called Dunkerque by the female gender in French, he would be wrong, same if he had so with Iowa. But in English he is right. -

Yeah, their Buffalo appears to be this design (with some differences to the secondary placement mainly and the added torps). -
Indeed. I did really well with Yorck after fearing her performance due to her bad reputation. So when I finished her I had high hopes for Hipper. Man were those dashed. I did significantly worse in her than Yorck. I lost 14% WR, a bit of damage, kills per game dropped by 0.23, and survivability went from 44% to 31%. Before someone says I don't know how to play Hipper, I still did 60% better in damage than the average and a bit more than 15% better in WR. She just couldn't match my Yorck.

...... Oh dear WGNA. That's hilarious on two levels, which is rather impressive with a single sentence. By the way guys, I understand the frustration, but let's wait with the anger and outright disappointment ok? First is not always better. Remember the big UI fail a few patches ago? Yeah NA took that one to the face, while we avoided the issue entirely and sailed on on a stable patch until it was fixed. Scharnie is unlikely to be a trap, but who knows if something unknown pops up? I can easily wait one or two days. But they should certainly keep within that time period. -
Broken damage model?!
Unintentional_submarine replied to TheBigLanowski's topic in General Discussion
It seems some terminology got messed up. Modules are things such as the engines, turrets, rudder and so on. These are the things that can soak up penetrations for no damage to a full health target (arguably only the turrets really have the position and HP to do that without getting taken out instantly when dealing with battleship penetrations). On the other side we have ship sections (bow, stern, middle and superstructure; middle has multiple subdivisions but they all count towards the same damage), which are indeed technically modules of the ship, but they are part of the ship's own HP. They can get depleted to the point where no more damage can be suffered there. However they can't get depleted without causing damage to the ship, and should the ship use a Repair Party (heal), the section will get some health back.- 99 replies

Broken damage model?!
Unintentional_submarine replied to TheBigLanowski's topic in General Discussion
AP depletes sections just as much as HE or torpedos. I thought that was common knowledge to most people 'in-the-know'. The misunderstanding probably comes from the fact that citadels and overpens never get reduced. So that leaves only regular penetrations to be reduced by depletion. The proof is right in the comments' section just after Business6's response. http://imgur.com/a/GqQfS The thing here is that the damage doesn't add up directly, however if the section of one or more of the penetrations suffers down to the 50% depletion for a bit, then it will reduce one of the penetrations for the rather small difference. It certainly can't be 3 overpens and 1 citadel. But it can be 3 overpens and 3 penetrations with one of those suffering a somewhat small part of the damage reduced to 50% depletion.- 99 replies

T6 French Premium: Battleship Dunkerque Disappoints
Unintentional_submarine replied to Pupu_prpr's topic in Battleships
If you don't count Fuso and her 102mm bow armour... She can of course still get penetrated in the upper bow for regular penetrations, but that area is very small looking at her in a bow-in scenario.- 241 replies

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Unintentional_submarine replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
See that's my fear too. The Soviet planners gave their designers impossible tasks. What they wanted wasn't possible, but the designers managed to come up with plans that pretty much did it. Now the question is, were the designs really going to be able to do all of what was expected of them? Hardly. What we know of the Sovetsky Soyuz class, it seems the designers planned on their ships never materialising and gave them hopelessly optimistic capabilities. But yet there they are... So if Lesta turns a blind eye to that the Soviet battleships will be absolute terrors with (for Sovetsky Soyuz) high velocity guns, about as fast as Tirpitz traverse, Tirpitz reload, Iowa speed, armour like Yamato (do you honestly expect things such as production capabilities of armour plating to be a stumbling block in WoWs?) and penetration in excess of the USN 16" super heavies (though the one gun that was test fired fell well short but was still claimed a success [seems people were doing their best to wash their hands of the affair])... -
Broken damage model?!
Unintentional_submarine replied to TheBigLanowski's topic in General Discussion
The module-soaking-up-hits is perhaps correct enough in most cases, and the desync uncovered earlier in this thread might account for close to all of the rest. Hard to say, but I have become convinced that it is probably like that. That's speculation indeed, but it is fairly logical as well. The latter there is probably little to do about, other than making ribbons a serverside thing. The former however... While it is entirely correct, it pens and it doesn't do damage, it is a terrible thing for the player to see. Like Business6 says, those hit markers are important to estimating your aim's accuracy, or lack thereof. Making it into it's own hit marker (it doesn't need it's own entire ribbon, just a fifth marker to the hit ribbon) would tell the player, this hit was good, try again. And it would just make better sense and remove all the confusion. Right now we have to speculate as to the reason, regardless of what the truth is surrounding the matter. I really don't want to sit in a battle and speculate as to what happened, I can do that afterwards, but in the battle I want hard results. The overpen = overpen + pen issue is a hard one. How does the game tell us this? It could technically tell us that we got both, but that would be just as confusing to most people ("I hit one shell but got two hits? Bug?"), it could tell us only the largest hit, but that too would be confusing as we saw before the hit markers (I remember well the dicussions about pens doing too much damage and citadels likewise [though those were indeed bugs]), though it would be better than overpen markers instead of pen markers... So what then? Another hit marker for multiple hits? Firstly I don't think so, six markers would take up too much room I think. Secondly it would be a complex thing boiled down to a simple little grey-blue image. The only option as I see it, is probably not something WG is ever likely to add, and I'm sure many would dislike a lot due to clutter. And that's giving floating numbers for EACH instance of damage (but not for non-damage hits like non-pens and ricochets, but a 0 for when you pen a module for no ship damage). I'm sure everyone with a significant number of hits per salvo would hate it with a passion. And the clutter itself would probably preclude a lot of the value in the first place. Hence I'm loath to suggest it as a solution.- 99 replies

And you guys fall for Acheron's bait... again. And this time even more blatantly obvious. -
Could live with it. 22500 to pay for not getting Detonated in a high tier game is well worth it. Total costs would be a lot higher than 'popping' now and then. But it would be so much more relaxing... for me personally. I can't impact what friendlies do, so Detonations would still impact my games and annoy me (even with an average of 1% that's still a Detonation every four games). It would however be better than now, and I'm very much in favour of moving forward.

Unintentional_submarine replied to Darth_Glorious's topic in Battleships
I have heard from some people that should be reliable, that they did intend for the split turret, but couldn't do it. For whatever reason. But yes, slightly buffed armour, in limited places, is in fact not out of place with the game. There are certain things made with gameplay in mind, like the basic plating being of 19, 25 or 32mm for battleships. These thicknesses don't match many plates on the ships, and are purely there to satisfy specific gameplay requirements. If they had used the real platings, every nation, if not every ship would have different thicknesses and at many different places. Remember when Baltimore and Des Moines got that seemingly pathetic 2mm buff? Yeah that was over a large area and was critical in making certain Tirpitzes couldn't lol-pen them (it is the cutoff point for overmatches from 380mm AP). So giving Dunkerque some extra protection in a critical place might have been a tolerable solution. Personally I think it should rather be HP now that splitting the turrets won't happen. I mean they have 15k HP and Warspite has 20k for her doubles... at least give them more HP to indicate their greater size and subdivision. It makes better sense (though it can be argued that bigger isn't necessarily stronger) and it makes a lot more gameplay sense if the ship is suffering in this department. And it seems it does to an unpleasant degree (but not like pre-buff Ognevoi or Atlanta of course). -

Unintentional_submarine replied to FdTeufel's topic in General Discussion
Actually the stat I'm looking for is more like this: Total health damaged in battle: 235% (maybe with the percentages broken down in a expandable list like with the economy tab after battles) That would mean I had damaged for a total of 235% health of enemy ships (naturally Repair Party would mean that a team potentially has a fair bit more than 1200% in a battle). That would also tell us if ship X, that has low damage, is truly underpowered in a fight sense, or just damages low heath targets most on average. And it would tell me personally if I might be playing a ship wrong (high damage but low health damage percentage done... maybe I target the wrong ships?). -
It would be spectacularly bad for them if they promised people something and then said "weeeeeeeell... you will have to wait some time more, but you will get it 'soon'."

You mean like Tone? Or the other ships that have popped in and out of the files. I mean Kitakami is still sitting out there in the cold, despite statements that they want her her back in. Wouldn't this sort of event be the perfect opportunity for her to return? It isn't likely that the winners would be TK machines. Oh well. My point is just that what seems like a possibility now, might come back and bite them in the... posterior, if Prinz Eugen isn't finished yet.

Exactly, could you possibly suggest it in some intricate way to WG? Like say "oh this change is great, but it changes XYZ so much we now need to see how much health we removed... gief stat plx?" Seriously though, it is a stat I have been campaigning for... for well a year I guess. Admittedly the campaign has been pretty silent for a long time. *ahem* But it is still my wish we can get that stat, as it tells a whole lot more about economy and actual gameplay power than even WR. Combined with WR it would tell the total power of the ship, since WR also includes the effects of non-combat or non-damage effects like chasing enemies away with trop salvos or capping. -
if it was a desync he would still get the hit marker. Just like those torps that are desynced. The hit you see is after the Detonation. It is clear from when the ship dies and the kill ribbon starts appearing it is the hit in the water.
-
Doubt it as it is a sponsored event, rather than something WG set up themselves. Possible, but I doubt it. Besides, would WG really pass up the opportunity to cash in on such a famous ship? What surprises me is that they can offer her up. I mean she looks incredibly unfinished. No camo, stats like a regular Hipper etc. Not even Marblehead is just a carbon copy like this.

What... Prinz Eugens? But she isn't finished yet... is she? Good effort and initiative!

Unintentional_submarine replied to FdTeufel's topic in General Discussion
The change to the torps have changed the high tier DDs more than just the obvious bits. By closing down the range aspect, they have been forced to come closer. That much is obvious, but what that means is that it has become highly predictable where such a DD will be on a map. 'Ok, so my DDs are in these areas, no Shima sighted... despite them being in Shima territory. What's left for him to hide in? Ahh, these areas.' Half a minute later. 'Hah... torps from one of those areas, I knew it.' The change had made them harder to be unpredictable in, as there are only so many places they can hide at. It is these sort of deduction games that are vital, and once you know how to do it, you are much much better off. Those better than me might not even know they are doing it, as it just comes natural to them. But I had to specifically think it over and learn the hard way, slowly expanding my knowlegebase. -
Yes and nooooooooooooooo If you liked or loved Tropico 3-4, you will not like Tropico 5. Whoops, that's some epic OT. The T5s might suck T7s down now, but the numbers of T5s have apparently been falling and the most played tier is T7 atm (this could naturally have been influenced by Ranked, but T6 is less than either T5 and 7). I can't remember where I saw it, but it's posted up somewhere on hte forum and is quite recent. What this means is that if there are a lot of incoming Scharnhorsts at T7, and possibly some Dunkerques at T6, it might very well mean that T7 spill over into the higher tiers more frequently as the T5s deplete even more... But naturally that depends on who will buy her. The people thatm ake up the bulk of T5-6 or the ones making up the bulk of T8-9. Arguably since more people play T5 than T8-9, it's going to be them, but will they represent a larger percentage of the average population of those tiers? I don't think so, but the lower tier players are more likely to spend a larger percentage of time in the new ship though. Overall I suspect that when Scharnhorst arrives she will see higher tiers more frequently than she does now, but not to the point of her becoming 'Shamhorst'... At least not any worse than the other T7s.
