The "Birthday Achievements": here is a list of how to unlock each achievement, and the rewards..
Unintentional_submarine replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
Yup... I saw earlier that it was gold, so I was surprised when there wasn't any credits waiting for me when I logged in. But after about 5 battles there it was. Pretty nice. Especially as I had just bought Yamato, and apparently didn't have any Concealment Mods lying around (and then not enough credits for a new one). I still need the compliment and King. I don't know why, but all the battles I have been in people are been d-bags. I mean a lot more than usual. That drags the overall mood down and people become less likely to hand out compliments (naturally I try to stay well clear of any mudslinging as that is the fast track to no compliments at all). That's just my luck, as I don't think people should be more cranky the last week or so. Add to it that I have played surprisingly uninspired and middle of the pack. And when I have in fact done well, I have been alone so nobody really noticed. It's just perfectly bad for me. Usually I get at least a few compliments every few days... I have been more liberal with my compliments, and assume a fair few are as well, just not in my games it seems. Note, this isn't a complaint as such. Just a bit of salt at the thoroughly unusual situation. -
Prince Eugen Available to purchase now !

Admiral Hipper has longer range as well. And the line about PE's AA is also BS as Admiral Hipper is better there too. That they managed to miss these things doesn't bode well. -
Question about Aircraft-Carriers
Unintentional_submarine replied to Pincopallino945's topic in General Discussion
As noted it is the shorthand for aircraft carrier, it comes from the USN classification system. The various shorthands are not always associated with actual words, like abbreviations, but in this case there is an actual reason for the slightly odd addition of the 'V', and it is indeed an abbreviation. It stands for Cruiser Voler (Aviation Cruiser). There are a lot of people that think it stands for Carrier Vessel, but that is an urban myth, or perhaps it just because it makes the most sense to them. Admittedly it is slightly odd that the Americans would choose a French word for the carrier, but apparently it comes from the San Remo conference of the victorious parties of WWI. -
Sunk Ships Spotter Planes
Unintentional_submarine replied to VeteranGamer84's topic in General Discussion
I have been doing that since CBT. It really is very much worth it because of the long time the plane stays in the air. Even if it wasn't, it would still be worth doing. However I can certainly see the annoyance when it is up for much longer than it is otherwise capable of. -
Sunk Ships Spotter Planes
Unintentional_submarine replied to VeteranGamer84's topic in General Discussion
There is a point though. The Spotter Plane stays in the air long after it's usual time is up, if the parent ship is sunk. Usually it is up only 1:30, but is the ship is sunk it is up for around 5 minutes. Spotter Planes also move in a very wide circle, effectively covering a large portion of the map. -
Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Unintentional_submarine replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Ah thanks for clearing that up. I mean I did run the tests and was convinced it wasn't for every ship, yet it nagged me and I was beginning to get false positives in battles. You know, seeing penetrations where I would think they shouldn't happen. Just goes to show how powerful a small statement can be in terms of interpreting battle results. -
I don't know what to say honestly. On one hand I feel it is the right direction. On the other I don't think it is working too well. Epicenter on Tears of the Desert is bad though. The surrounding islands are just close enough that ships can camp in them and be in the circle. Meanwhile the totally open center means that ships without smoke simply can't move inside. It is really, really bad there. The bigger ships simply can't cap the central circle, and the central circle is the actually important one. Lose your DDs, or they aren't gunboats, and it is effectively a loss. And no, I don't have a clear idea of what to do about it.

Warspite Armour values WRONG
Unintentional_submarine replied to lethalbizzell's topic in General Discussion
There are actual documents about this, it isn't some super secret thing. Probably why it hasn't been mentioned much. It's one of those "it is well known, so no point in mentioning it". First Sea Lord Chatfield (in office when Warspite entered her late 30s refit) wrote to Admiral sir William Fisher Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet: "In the 'Warspite' I am taking out four 6-inch guns, removing the 6-inch battery armour, and putting it on the engines and boiler rooms, ..." As accounted by Joseph Moretz' book The Royal Navy and the Capital Ship in the Interwar Period: An Operational Perspective Now I don't know Moretz' qualities himself, but here he only shows the intention of Chatfield, who was quite adamant in the refitting of the capital ships, making that a priority. Of course that itself isn't evidence of what happened, but it does lend credence to the point that D. K. Brown makes that 445 tons were saved in this reduction of armour on the 6-inchers' battery. Let me just post this up. 40lb = 1 inch. The number you are looking for is the 6e on the B 9/8 lower section where you can see the secondary battery outline. You can also see this on the left in the cutout that shows the secondary deck. Now the argument would be that, hey it didn't get reduced to 25mm, but either 2 inches of NC (non-cemented, hence very weak plating [as per D. K Brown's listing]) or about 1.5 inches of HT (high-tensile, similarly also weak to direct hits [as per the plan]). Because of the lack of actual armour in those places, Lesta has apparently decided to just say "heck, let's make it 25mm of armour". The argument against that is the structural steel in the bow and stern being worth upwards of 32mm of armour steel, which it never was. But those things are obviously given a balance treatment (few ships actually had as much as 32mm plating in their outer skin or weatherdecks). But the fact remains, Warspite didn't have 152mm face hardened armour to protect her 6-inchers post refit, what was left was at best splinter protection and Lesta has modelled around that. [EDIT] Now that I have looked more carefully at the plan again, I'm pretty sure that Lesta's sources are similar to it. The armour covering the engine spaces are listed as 9c on 4e. Or 140 pounds, which is 3.5 inches or about 89mm. That's what Warspite has covering the engine spaces ingame. If you are annoyed that what might have reason to be around 38mm is only 25mm, then feel free to use that. I won't be saying anything against that. But that's about the only armour problem that Warspite has at this time. Her citadel might edge out too far in front, but that's another issue, and one I don't think is easily exploitable. -
Warspite Armour values WRONG
Unintentional_submarine replied to lethalbizzell's topic in General Discussion
As I said, that armour was removed in the last refit. It isn't wrong to be much less than 152mm. -
Warspite Armour values WRONG
Unintentional_submarine replied to lethalbizzell's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure you guys know that the 6 inch protection was greatly reduced, in order to save weight (445 tons in all). The conning tower was removed, also to save weight (230 tons). That Warspite does in fact have her 127mm deck armour above the magazine (it seems the word 'deck' is confusing some as there appear to be an assumption that it means the weatherdeck). Heck I'll just upload a screenshot. Now, where she might be armoured and/or modelled wrong is her very forward citadel area which is a bit odd (shouldn't go beyond the front turret). And the central deck armour which is only 89mm thick, which appears to be from Barham rather than Warspite as what I know Warspite had a uniform armoured deck across the length of the citadel spaces. But the 25mm at the secondaries isn't wrong as such (yes it is wrong in that it wasn't specifically 25mm, but 25mm is a specific thickness used for gameplay reasons, New Mexico and Colorado didn't have specifically 25mm plates either, it is just used for the structural plates, which is was covered the 6 inch batteries after the last refit), and neither is the conning tower as it simply didn't exist any longer. -
All right, given that this isn't a bug it isn't an issue I have brought up here before, but considering the amount of time it has been known and no acknowledgement of this has occurred, I decided it was time to post it here. The simple matter is that Nürnberg, like Admiral Hipper until she was fixed, sits considerably too high in the water. By my estimation, nearly a full deck. Naturally this has unintended consequences, such as her armour being almost entirely out of the water, leaving functionally no protection under the waterline. Also, since she sits so high her citadel area extends very far over the waterline, leaving her exceptionally vulnerable to AP shells, even for a cruiser. Naturally I don't come without bearing gifts. In this case in the form of screenshots and pictures (which I'll embed in spoilers to limit clutter). Firstly we have a byproduct of this very light load. Next up we have a picture of Nürnberg anchored in Norway. And here we have Nürnberg in a similar profile as the one in the picture. I'm afraid I couldn't make it better than this, but I hope it is sufficient for the purposes of this post. Based on the models presented at gamemodels3d, Nürnberg looks very odd from a protective standpoint. Assuming the German naval architects weren't drunk during the entire design process, it seems highly unlikely they would leave her this unprotected, yet still spend a lot of displacement budget on armour that doesn't protect her very well. But if lowered about one deck, she would instantly fit her armour much better, and her designers seem much less incompetent.

Something needs to be done to help BB's from smoke hiding, spamming DD's.
Unintentional_submarine replied to _x_Acheron_x_'s topic in Archive
I'm about to think that Acheron has managed to get some kind of sponsor deal for his trolling... He has gotten a lot better recently, making me think he puts more effort into it. A professional stance I would say. He has latched onto the new fad on the forum, to complain that battleships are weak (not new) and fires are to blame (not really new either, but the amount of idiocy has certainly increased). Expect a new signature from him soon. -
XP Ratio incredibly low after the Patch
Unintentional_submarine replied to _FTD_'s topic in General Discussion
Hmmm... maybe. But let's not forget that XP scales non-linearly. I'm not sure exactly how it progresses, but it is certain that XP becomes progressively harder to get. -

So we still have to pay extra extra for the credit camo (which honestly doesn't even look nice). That lemon is being squeezed a bit much. -
XP Ratio incredibly low after the Patch
Unintentional_submarine replied to _FTD_'s topic in General Discussion
Yeah, extra high. 2.6k is not that high. I mean it isn't something I get every day, but we are talking about a seriously massive amount of damage inflicted to not just battleships. I have a battle in a North Carolina (my top scoring battle for her) where I did 210k damage. Because of that battle's special position, I remember well what I did. Most of my damage was against battleships in Standard battle as top tier. And yet I got more base XP than this. So less damage against bigger targets equals more XP? That doesn't compute to me. -

XP Ratio incredibly low after the Patch
Unintentional_submarine replied to _FTD_'s topic in General Discussion
No, that does seem low. The first one also looks low, but various things could have impacted that. This most recent game seems out of whack. Unless the damage was purely against battleships that healed up multiple times I can't see why this should happen. But even then it is still about 4x T7 BB in terms of inflicted damage. 400% of ship health should give more than this. I mean you are top tier, but this is too low. -

Wow... for real? The price and the 'stuff'... the perfect storm of BS in the Premium shop. For once I really don't hope for equality between the servers. -
Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Unintentional_submarine replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
Ok, so I ran some tests. Sims vs Kuma. Grabbed the Navigator mod to be absolutely certain the angles were correct. First I got confused because I got citadels at 29 degrees, but because of the close distance I felt it might have been because the further part of the Kuma might in fact have been angled at less than 30 degrees. So I began shooting at one at 25 degrees. After 60 ricochets with no other types of hits I'm convinced what we were told is wrong. The ricochet angles don't appear to be changed like that. It might have changed (I did get a surprising amount of citadels at 29 degrees, even if the actual hit point was 31 degrees the number was more than expected), but not to the degree he told us. So either he mistook the USN 8 inch ricochet angles, or some other gun now follow that rule too, but not the USN 5 inch, or maybe the changes were much less significant than mentioned. -

Unintentional_submarine replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
I'm actually reasonably convinced the guy answering those questions were not informed of the USN cruisers beforehand, and just saw their peculiarity. I have played battles and I have almost certainly bounced shells at less than 60 degrees, and have my own shells bounce for the same. I might have to run a few tests though. If this is true I'm amazed they wouldn't say anything about it. It is a massive change and a massive relative nerf to the USN heavy cruisers. -
Shells sound impact broken?
Unintentional_submarine replied to albinbino's topic in General Discussion
I wondered what had happened, but assumed it was just the patch. I never really considered how much I actually rely on those sounds. It was really weird to not hear the impacts, it not only felt wrong, I also felt like I was less aware of what was happening to me. -

Mogami. You got First Blood on a Myoko I think. We were fighting over C on Trap. I didn't actually notice until I was sunk myself, and we didn't trade that many shots (well it was pretty much oneway and only a few). -
german BB's not the only 1 with Turtleback armor
Unintentional_submarine replied to SailingDutchy's topic in Battleships
That's just a case of lack of information. For instance in the case of Bayern (upgraded), the conning tower is entirely enclosed in the superstructure. So when you look at it in the ingame armour viewer, it won't show, and the armour viewer doesn't peel layers off, but rather lump entire section under one group, so you don't really see the entirety of armour complexity). But it is still there. The second part, that the conning tower doesn't go all the way down, in some ships it does. Again Bayern is a good example, Imperator Nikolai I is another. The simple fact is that the 'modern' ships most often didn't have a fully armoured conning tower all the way down to the armoured deck. Bismarck for instance only had about two decks worth of armored conning tower (the armoured ladder space isn't modeled), and the game matches that. Yet other ships are in face without it, Warspite being one, as the British came to the conclusion that the limited vision, space and the weight considerations were simply not worth it (after WWI mind you, so for Warspite it is a post-refit thing). Yes, the conning tower doesn't count as citadel space. Probably for gameplay reasons. We hit way more than was possible, hence we also hit the conning tower rather often. And with it sitting there high above in the superstructure it is terribly exposed, so there is effectively nothing a player can do to protect it. For the same reason we can't knock out the range finders and director stations. They get hit with horrendous frequency and they aren't really armoured. -

So maybe it is rather three co-op games with kills? Or maybe it is kill one of each class (discounting CVs)? Do you remember what you sank and when?
