There are several things going on with the camo. Firstly the stripes are intended to mess up coincidence rangefinders, like the ones the British used. The stereoscopic rangefinders the Germans and Americans used were less sensitive to this sort of camo, but were instead more sensitive to: The fake bow and stern, making the process of matching the two images somewhat more cumbersome. But that part of the camo had more to do with size, speed and heading detection. And if lucky, even class identification. The two pictures in your last post show the fake bow and stern is very strong effect. In fact in the second picture the real stern is almost entirely obscured. In slightly hazy conditions, Bismarck could very well be mistaken for an Admiral Hipper (as happened in the Denmark Strait), and even if correctly classified, she could be given the wrong speed and heading. Bismarck's camouflage appears to be fairly simplistic, but it was pretty well thought out.

(Very) Bad Advice:JPN DDs should not use guns
Unintentional_submarine replied to Sadstories's topic in General Discussion
Try using a zero instead of an O. -
Depends on what you consider the 'same'. For me there is a clear difference, which is a great help when I play the Kamikaze R, as it allow for a more mobile use of the torps. Less need to stop turning when needing to launch, which allows it to be used more aggressively.

As I expected it to be.

Will the RN cruiser make high tier battles worse?

And a longer version of it called "Weekend". Just beware the enemy take advantage of it and cap while you are unable to do anything about it. *guess the reference* -
They will... eventually. The disturbing thing is that how long ago was it we had the Campbeltown screw-up? That should really have given them a final wake up call. How many events and special things have managed to get messed up like this now? It honestly seems like every single one of them but the Emden mission back at New-Years.

How do you take out German BB's
Unintentional_submarine replied to chazza118's topic in General Discussion
The toughness of the German battleships, and especially once they get fast (Gneisenau and up), their players have a tendency to be a little like bulls. They charge hard, and they tend to focus on one enemy, generally a battleship. *disclaimer: this doesn't apply to very good players* It is this bull rush that can put many people off their game. What do I do when they do that? Well, once the charge has started it is usually too late. It is important to see it coming some time in advance. The bull rusher is usually the guy that sails among the cruisers. Make sure you are in a position to either get some cover so you can turn, or turn in advance (don't have to fall back just yet). Either the bull rusher will see that you are a bad target, or he tries anyway. Both are situations you want to some degree. If he seeks another target you should get some nice free salvos on him, or salvos on cruisers. If he does charge, you trade space for life, and hit him in the superstructure and turrets. While he rushes at you, your team should have some nice broadside shots at him with all kinds of weapons. If you are alone, then it come down to whoever is the better skipper (shiphandling). Keep trading space and keep hitting him where his armour isn't great. If he has torpedos you are both blessed and cursed. Blessed in the fact that he wants to use them, and must present a fair bit of broadside, making him rather predictable, and they are relatively easy to avoid in a chase scenario. Cursed in the sense that the torps are an extremely powerful tool for a competent skipper. Amusingly, just today I was being chased by a Gneisenau in my Bayern. He was dead set on killing me, so I angled at him and shot at other ships while running away. Finally there were no more ships to shoot at but him and I initiated the dance. I let him come closer until at around 3.5km he finally began to maneuver for torps. Knowing the speed of the torps and when he fired them I easily got my broadside shots into him. He managed to get both sides off, and missed with all while the final broadside killed him (he clearly launched the second salvo with the knowledge that I would kill him). He was probably locked in as he likely felt that he couldn't really turn away at less than 10km without getting pummeled, so it was do or die. It is this perception of things that you can live and feed off. Drag him (and if there are more, al the better) off into the distance. If you lose, well too bad, but at least you have dragged him into a place he is of little further use. -
I got 50 flags, probably for my sole T10, but not the flags for games played which should be 200 (total 250). This is getting stupid. I don't mean this, I'm sure it will be fixed in time, that much confidence I do have. No mean I mean every time there is something special going, something special is messed up. Every time. How is it possible? It's not like there haven't been plenty warnings with all the other events and missions that needed extra attention after the fact.

Yes. Unfortunately hitting elsewhere with HE, or apparently even AP (as seen with how Raskeria managed to Detonate a Yamato with Khaba AP) can also cause Detonations. And that's highly infuriating. Since that isn't a new thing, nor even unmentioned in the past, yet not changed, it is obvious that that too is intended. And that just makes what is already frustrating, even more so.

Gearing & Fletcher getting nerfed aswell ? General balancing questions.
Unintentional_submarine replied to br1zz's topic in General Discussion
Solo: 3.8% WR difference 2-ship: 5.1% WR difference 3-ship: 3.6% WR difference Yeah divisioning doesn't exactly make the Khaba clearly better as she loses out in 3-ship divs. And with the numbers involved the last two weeks it is hard to use these numbers and anything more than "Khabarovsk does quite a bit better regardless of circumstances". -
It doesn't have to be a citadel. Destroyers obviously doesn't have citadels, and certain light cruisers, like Kuma and Omaha, doesn't have citadels that cover the bow and sterns magazines (and thank goodness for that, otherwise they would be utterly useless in battle). Similarly the magazine can certainly be damaged by non-citadels on other ships. Though they are among the most lightly armoured ones, like Königsberg, Kirov and Nürnberg. A magazine hit induces the critical effect where your turret is operable, but won't reload for something like 10 seconds. It's a rather rare thing overall, but it happens in those three cruisers with some frequency, and destroyers of course.

What we know about Ships: Updated 05/04/2017
Unintentional_submarine replied to mr3awsome's topic in General Discussion
Dispersion is a linear progression in regards to range. Sigma is a balance tool nothing else. So these things won't matter. And why give it the Colorado guns, that makes no sense at all. Discounting the fact that the Colorado already has her RoF buffed up to 2rpm (and Colorado never was at 1.5 (40s) anyway at her 35s reload). The Colorado guns and the SoDak 20 guns were not the same or even that similar, the Colorado guns were around 106 tons each, while the SoDak 20 were 128. Obviously the Americans would retain the better performing Mark 2s (compared to Colorado's initial Mark 1) and give them the same treatment as the Colorado guns and every other gun on their battleships. Even the Wyomings had their guns retained, but upgraded, if to a lesser degree than the following classes. It would be really strange. Where would the Colorado guns come from? The Colorado class ships already used them. So entirely new guns would need to be constructed, at which point it would be easier to just build new Marks of the Mark 2 guns since they already fit the ship, and have a higher potential. -
Under water hits count as hits in the ribbons. They are actually relatively common, and most likely the most common way of achieving citadels on tough nuts such as New Mexico and Colorado (outside of bow overmatches), as their main belt doesn't stretch very far below the water's surface and the protection down there is limited at best. So those don't count for this. The non-hit Detonations are the result of HE having a splash effect that causes damage to modules but not the ship itself. They can in theory hit the magazine with some module damage (it is after all a module), but as is so clearly shown, it doesn't have to damage the magazine.
-
Indeed. And for some visual evidence (not mine, just grabbed the nearest screenshot of it). It should be pretty clear that the game registers a hit where the enemy ship really is, but the client doesn't show.

What we know about Ships: Updated 05/04/2017
Unintentional_submarine replied to mr3awsome's topic in General Discussion
Well, presumably the SoDak 20 would have undergone a similar gun update as the Colorado class. Comparing her effectively WWI guns to those with updated guns and ammunition for WWII is not really fair. We all know how poor the stock Nagato/Amagi/Colorado guns are, and how good the upgraded ones are as well. Instead the comparison should be for the date of construction. And there the guns were pretty fine. Assuming a similar qualitative upgrade that Colorado got, her performance wouldn't exactly be Iowa levels, but would certainly be able to compete with the North Carolina guns in penetration but with considerably better MV, making aiming her guns a lot easier. And with the amount of guns, she would be too good at T8. Considering the Germans have already been getting upgrades to make their WWI guns more competitive, I think it is a safe bet SoDak 20 would too. -
Good lord... I literally linked a case where it can't possibly have been a magazine hit, on the very same page as your post. Look at it and ask yourself how Khaba AP managed to get into the magazine of a Yamato to Detonate him. It can't. And AP doesn't have the splash effect to cause damage to the magazine from outside the armour. You know what I'll link it again. https://clips.twitch.tv/ferdinandnl/ClearAlligatorGrammarKing And HE can do it too. It's getting tiresome that this myth needs to get dispelled over and over and over. You don't need to hit the magazine. Hitting the magazine increases the chances, but that's it.

Then read the discussions again. We are more than a few that don't like it one way or another. I'll refer to my own reasoning here. http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/61818-most-disgusting-way-to-be-sunk/page__st__40__pid__1296976#entry1296976

Only the 420mm isn't included in the 1/4 rule (but I distinctly remember it being mentioned in relation for this recently, so maybe it will get it at some point?). The 380mm was even 'buffed' to this before the inclusion of the main line.

That's what I'm trying to get across. Until we know exactly to what extent the armour is changed for sure (I mean I have my own assumptions based on their wording), it can be anything from very rough to acceptable. If it is bad on the PT, then I will certainly make myself clear about that. If it isn't, then good I guess? Unlike other changes, I get the feeling that they are actually testing the impact this time. Will this work or not? So it is important to give them things to work with, even if you don't like the idea behind it.

Structural plating isn't a specific name, but it makes sense to call it something different than armour as it is in the place where the ships had functionally no armour (probably why the ships have been given uniform thicknesses om these places). The armour, like that of the German battleships is thicker plating that is intended to protect the internal parts from damage. The structural plating wasn't really intended to protect as such (usually it would be 10-20mm of softer steel), well nice if it did protect, but that wasn't why it was there. Ingame it is everywhere there isn't any real armour or superstructure. So the only hard rule is that it can be found in the upper bow, upper stern, the deck areas of the bow and stern, and that's it. Yes, on some battleships the entire deck is composed this structural plating, like Amagi (effectively she has only 32mm elsewhere than the conning tower, turrets and the belt, same applies to Nagato but with 25mm), but on others there is armour pretty much everywhere, like Imperator Nikolai I. The figures you are looking for are 19, 25 and 32mm. And now it seems 28mm (and 27mm for the top tier USN cruisers). Where they are, the plating can safely be assumed to be of inconsequential thickness and hardness for the most part. Now, based on the wording, it doesn't look like Amagi will get the full nerf to her entire ship, but rather just her bow and stern. Her midsection as I read the notes, will not be touched. If it is, then it is a very substantial nerf.

Yeah, I used something like 5 of the 10 flags... and boy can you retrain a skipper fast like that. I can totally see why they didn't give us all of the flags for this combo.

https://clips.twitch.tv/ferdinandnl/ClearAlligatorGrammarKing Such skills, and L2P Yamato noob!

Taiho, Hakuryu and Midway all have armoured flight decks. Haku has 90mm and Midway 83mm (I think, it's somewhere around that). Few HE shells can penetrate that sort of armour. If it will make you feel better, these carriers also tend to bounce most AP shot at them if they aren't perfectly broadside on if they are at medium to long ranges.

No need to feel sorry, it was intended as a lighthearted jab. To get a few grins in an otherwise rather gloomy thread (hence all the smileys). If the use of 'v' is reduced, then that's just a bonus. Hmm... it's not often that I'm on Hans' side in these things, but this time I most certainly am. Not because I particularly think this change is awesome and will fix the issues (I don't), but that based on other tiers with overmatching the impact might not be as incredibly tough. Let's take poor Amagi. She has lived on her 32mm plating, it's what has saved her to a great extent. So the nerf will naturally hurt her greatly right? Well, obviously it will hurt her, but she was never a bow-in ship anyway. Her best angle for firing is not far from her best bounce angle. Personally I rarely ever pointed my bow or stern directly at the enemy in her, and I would argue I did rather well. I relied on the angled belt more than the impenetrable bow. Now, even angled she will suffer from this, some shots will pretty much always disperse into the weakened bow. But I doubt that she will get nuked out of the water. She could probably use some other assistance (no, not more AA...), I just don't think it is the end of the world. So the only thing I can say about it is, play a lot on the PT server and provide loads to the statistics and give honest feedback here. Best chance we have to get this reversed, amended or changed. At the very least it will provide some understanding of how to play in the future.
