What are the "Heroic achievements"?
Unintentional_submarine replied to Devi1's topic in General Discussion
The achievements with golden wreaths, chains and backing. The silver ones are 'only' honorable. -
Destroying secondary batteries.
Unintentional_submarine replied to vaskemaskina's topic in General Discussion
AP to the superstructure tends to kill secondaries real fast. Not a surprise that RN cruisers are good for this. -
Usually called a hexagon. Made famous in turnbased strategy games. But here I am killing a joke... Evil me.

Torpedo damage of the roof?
Unintentional_submarine replied to TriGGerHope9's topic in General Discussion
Someone wrote up a nice story about one of the ammohandlers getting a cup of tea and was shocked by the impact at the most inopportune times, spilled his tea, which made a powderbag handler slip and fall, drawing a spark on the metal floor, igniting the powderbag. -
Torpedo damage of the roof?
Unintentional_submarine replied to TriGGerHope9's topic in General Discussion
I don't. Having been the victim of truly odd situations and done them myself, as well as observing it from others. Like those utterly weird Yamato detonations from 130mm shells (it baffles the mind as to how either HE or AP would be getting anywhere near anything that can be considered magazine areas). -
Torpedo damage of the roof?
Unintentional_submarine replied to TriGGerHope9's topic in General Discussion
It's a Cleveland dying to Warspite HE splash. Which is all sorts of weird since the Cleveland belt should easily stop any and all Warspite HE damage. The splash effect shouldn't really be able to get to the magazine. -

Except it is a 152mm Bogatyr, so it has 2x2 guns in turrets, and 4x1 guns along either side, for nice 8 gun broadsides. -
Question about the overmatch mechanics on the armor belt
Unintentional_submarine replied to Carmignac's topic in General Discussion
Indeed. When your bow is subject to being overmatched easily, the objective to aim for is to present as much of the belt as possible, while it still offers an angle sharp enough to cause ricochets. Most people tend to aim for the perceived center mass, and so if the angled belt cover a lot of that, the citadel will be rather protected, but it will never protect it all. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Unintentional_submarine replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Ok, that's a pretty special achievement I must say. My own isn't my own I'm sad to report, but it is special enough that I felt a need to post it here. 83 planes against a T6 and T7 CV. I thought I was rekking with my 25 kills, but when he got Clear Skies I knew I was terribly outmatched. But hey, he was a Flint, and they kept coming over our smokes. Nearly finished the planekill/module destruction mission in one go. -
[Suggestion] HMS Caroline - The Battle of Jutland (update: something seems to be brewing)
Unintentional_submarine replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
She doesn't have to be functional to come alive again. It's not like any of us would ever have a chance to sail around on her if that happened.- 157 replies

Wow... that's some change from the reef-like way she looked when pulled out of the water. It warms the heart a little to see an old and ravaged ship come to life again like that.- 157 replies

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Unintentional_submarine replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
More like PomMES! Stressing the syllables. Always sounds little weird to me. Is it? You mean like Emden last year, which was a New Years mission. Oleg is a T3 compared to Emden at T2. I'm not convinced yet. But I must admit that the glut of Russian low tier premiums would indicate that Oleg isn't a normal premium. -

I wonder how many bots will get compliments when they power up at a critical time and save the team. -
Dunkerque vs. Graf Spee - The Greatest Battle that Never Was
Unintentional_submarine replied to Procrastes's topic in General Discussion
Both ingame and IRL would see victories for the French ship, outside of total tactical surprises featuring short range and torpedos. Ingame Graf (one 'f') Spee would have two options, long range HE spam for fires, or short range torpedo rush. The former would be hard due to poor turret arcs and slower speed, while the latter would be even harder due to GS's relatively wide beam and the punch of the 330mm guns (overmatch ftw). IRL Graf Spee would have a chance to get away if she was lucky and knocked out the directors and rangefinders quickly. Otherwise Dunkerque would simply have tanked her fire and eventually landed enough telling blows. Effectively it would probably be extremely similar to the Battle of the Falkland Islands. Good maneuvering and accurate fire would extend the battle, but in the end probably not affect the actual outcome enough to make it anything but a French victory. -
Indeed, and you can know the Heroics by them having a golden chain, wreath and backing, whereas the Honorables are 'merely' given a silver chain and backing, and no wreath. This is clearly a bug, like that 500 credit task (that one is more hilarious than infuriating; 500 credits! OH THANK YOU SO MUCH!).

You would be surprised how many honestly think that battleships are in bad state and have been unjustly nerfed etc etc. It's honestly rather pathetic that so many people can think that... No, not pathetic (well, that too), scary really. Because if they can't see that battleships are doing too well, and in fact think they are bad, I fear about what they misunderstand in the general society as well. Might explain a few baffling things.

ARP Takao? nah, prepare for the ARP Nachi pain
Unintentional_submarine replied to Jvd2000's topic in General Discussion
I finished it yesterday. While it can be argued that I did finish it with plenty time to spare, the way it works doesn't really fit that. When you can play multiple games with no Soviet ships even in the game, and way fewer with one on the enemy side, and yet fewer where one is targetable, kills come randomly. Oh sure, the actual kills are generally not random, but you can't expect them at any time. This uncertainty means I could have stopped at 19 and for the rest of December not gotten another kill. Unlikely I must admit, but certainly possible. And that means that whenever there is a chance for a kill, you go for it, because you don't know when the next one will present itself. That sort of last-minute-rush for the entirety is unpleasant, and it should be revised for the future. Heck, even having gotten the required kills I wouldn't be mad if they lowered the requirements now. I would only think "GOOD!". It would reduce this silly situation considerably, and it wouldn't take anything away from me. I would still have my ship. And I would absolutely not think along the lines of "oh next time I won't bother". If this is the sort of mission that gets lowered, then no matter what, that is good. Even at 10 many people wouldn't have it, despite trying. Personally getting to 10 took quite a while, so it's not like I would be lulled into a sense of lethargy in regards to missions like this. -

Incorrect. Not only does the ingame model have a fire rate of 10rpm, the real life Nürnberg had a maximum rate of fire of up to 12rpm. What you are most likely referencing is the rate of fire for the Königsberg class, which couldn't likely get past 8rpm. The Nürnberg had improved turrets and mechanisms, to a degree that they were considered different types of turrets. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

Heh... your avatar is quite fitting for meeting that division. Even more so considering Tuccy's choice of captain skills. -

I have had fun with it, and I have felt good about the rewards. So, I can live with a few somewhat bad tasks in the mix, not like I need to always pick those. -
Have had several hiccups in several battles. One battle in particular was bad. At least five people DCed completely, ruining that battle (we won, but the latter half of the game was pretty much a few guys on both sides killing DCed people, and the side with the better cap situation won, and those were just the ones I noticed).

Mr. Roon believes he is a torpedoboat. Well, an American destroyer at least. Spoiler Notice the number of torps launched... They just kept coming around islands in a cyclone... Thinking turning hard was enough to juke my aim. It wasn't (omg, so hard to predict a turn when it is already locked in). *Take note of the secondary hits; Roon has very impressive secondaries, putting many battleships to shame. Pretty useless for direct damage though.* -

Unintentional_submarine replied to Horin728's topic in General Discussion
Had the exact same issue. Massive numbers and no battles... I just kept jumping in and out, waiting no more than 20 seconds. After three times it worked. But I suppose it could also have been a normal fix and my attempt to circumvent it was pointless. After that battle the queue was only slightly larger and a battle was found very fast. -

As already noted, there is plenty room to spread the Soviet ships into. Entire nations are missing. That's most likely three lines of ships for each, and at least a few more lines for the British. And then there are the many many ships missing from the Japanese and Americans. Sure the Japanese have just gotten their DDs sort of fleshed out, so they should naturally take a backseat for the time being. But the Americans? The missing American ships offer so much diversity and many options. Yes, Lesta is in St. Petersburg, but the American plans aren't exactly secrets any longer. I would be highly surprised if Lesta got the plans for the present USN destroyers, but not the missing ones at the same time. It would be a massive mismanagement of resources. After all, Lesta would have had to pick the present 9 line-destroyers from the totality in the beginning. It's not as if they decided before they got the plans... That would be the wrong way to go about doing such things. The same applies to the USN cruisers. Heck we know they have already modelled the Worchester (real) and Buffalo (paper). We also know from a video that the Agano has been in the work for long time now. Personally I have nothing against destroyers (and I'm in fact rather unhappy about the stealthfire announcement), but I have something against this. Particularly at this time. It is just a very bad timing, and a very bad decision in regards to player interest. We will see Russo-Soviet battleships rather soon, less than a year ago we had the cruisers. All the time we have had a multitude of Russo-Soviet premiums. It is simply oversaturation. I like my Soviet ships. A lot in fact. But I can't deny that they are not interesting in an immersion setting. Not historical correctness or realism, those are not that important, but relating to the ship in question, just a little bit. I don't have that with my Soviet ships, they are to me like a Goliath in Starcraft. I thought I wouldn't be affected by this, but it seems I am.
