Dispersion (=luck factor) = OK: but it should affect ALL ships
Unintentional_submarine replied to Yaskaraxx's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, fast ships can keep torp bombers locked into an attack for a long time by simply sailing at them. -
so WG you dont give a f. about Belfast smoke problem ?
Unintentional_submarine replied to Fizzy_Odin's topic in Archive
Yeah... So I thought I should try my fastest DD, the Blys. Well, at half speed she too produced three puffs. Even with flag and boost. But then I thought, we generally don't smoke in a straight line. We turn. So half speed again, but this time in a hard over turn (made sure the speed was stable before engaging smoke). The result was quite surprising. Despite going slower, and the turn shortening the distance from puff to ship, I managed to get five puffs. How can that be if it is a simply distance factor? I got more smokes while being closer to the previous puff than going in a straight line. The only answer as I see it, is that the entire ship counts for this, and turning the ship drags the stern away from the previous puff. RN cruisers are obviously bigger and longer, so might be more affected by this. But again, they appear to get the second puff at around 15kn... so consider me baffled. -

Ok... I have run some tests with my Shiratsuyu. And there is absolutely something wonky with smokes going on. I couldn't reproduce the one puff scenario, but going at half speed resulted in only three puffs rather than the normal six. The last puff even vanished 10 seconds before it's time was up... Which can be a serious issue. Album with screenshots of the more important tests. Weirdly the first screenshot should have been the last (the one about when the puff appears). I also tried out using speed boost with and without speed flag while at half speed. Both resulted in three puffs. So the 17-18kn range is pretty well covered here (though I didn't post those screenshots up as they don't say anything different). Given that every other puff was missed, I can see how the RN cruisers are screwed over, as they would obviously lose the second smoke at a similar speed. What is weird then is that they can go slower and get a second puff. Meanwhile I tried going at a quarter speed and I was simply too slow to make any relevant observations for that. Need something that can reliably go 14kn or so, and create smoke. Khaba with flag and speedboost at 1/4? -

There are probably more stuff, but I'm not exactly a CV player, so these are just the most obvious to a CV scrub like me. -

Would absolutely be nice, but since it sounds like a half speed issue, it should be readily reproducible for the rest of us. In fact I think I will go and try it on my slower DDs. -

Too high APM causes the UI to drop your selection. Correct your fighter strafe at the best possible moment causes the game to lock that course in, but the fighters will strafe in another direction. -

Half speed? Or some clever throttling back and forth? But damn... this looks like it is an issue at a specific speed somewhere between 15 and 20 knots. The question is then, how wide that is. -
Yeah it is a mine, but they don't exactly need 7 lines to get to the single small dock, do they now? Also, the short distance is a little weird. Would make sense if the mine was on the other side of the island or something. I like these little towns and life... but sometimes it is a little silly, like in this case.

patch. 6.0 is a massive battleship buff, nerf to the rest.
Unintentional_submarine replied to gizaman's topic in General Discussion
Which was my point. The Japanese destroyers are of course hurt too, as are the Germans, as if they needed nerf here too. But yeah, they rely less on their smokes offensively. Still, it is crippling for the Brits and the American destroyers. -
When I first heard of Bastion I was thrilled, but then again I never thought it was going to be a sort of protected Domination. I thought it would be more similar to War Thunder planes where there are bases you can bomb, but you can also decide not to. Right now fighting the forts is forced down our collective throats and they have made them into enormous obstacles, killing many ships each battle (arguably the forts, if counted as one entity, is the top scorer in a large percentage of games). That means the players lose out on a lot of damage and kill benefits, aside from the annoyance to tactical considerations.

?% chance for getting super-container

Got two containers within the first two weeks... Since, none. -
Just you wait until they give the forts torpedos...

Unintentional_submarine replied to gizaman's topic in General Discussion
You mean the nerfs that all classes get? If the premium DCP change hurts battleships a fair bit, then arguably the 40 second increase to premium smoke matches, if not overcomes that in return. It's almost as if these consumable changes hurt all the classes in their most important consumables... -
OP British Bofors (What're the best Bofors in the game?)
Unintentional_submarine replied to TheRamblingBaron's topic in General Discussion
It was a pretty special case of A) the enemy CVs were careless (obviously), B) it was one of those relatively unusual Two Brothers battles that only feature fighting on one side (lemmingtrains meet), C) both myself and the Flint were sitting inside smokes for most of the attacks, thus being invisible to the carriers, and D) the weakest friendly battleships happened to be near us most of the time. In fact we were positioned in such a way that the carriers either had to circle around the back of their own forces or our spawn to get to the juicy targets... they didn't. Only in the end did the carriers actually try to attack the Flint because he was in range of them by that point. -

Unintentional_submarine replied to Fizzy_Odin's topic in Archive
There was a time when the smoke puffs acted in such a way that they couldn't overwrite each other. They can now however. So even if that explanation was true (and it doesn't appear that it is), then it would be a particular weakness of the RN cruisers, which hasn't been relayed to the playerbase. So either it is a bug, which they refuse to accept, or it is downright shitty design. Not a nice choice, but it seems they are trying to go for the latter, while it is obvious it is the former, so in effect they are getting both of these pretty bad scenarios out of it because they are too stubborn to accept the fact that they messed it up. -
Need help with fourth stage operation Excess
Unintentional_submarine replied to Draconobilis's topic in General Discussion
Yes, it is easier to get flooding damage with carriers, which is probably why they don't count. It has to be in a destroyer. -

Just to help the cause, Flamu posted this up tonight (I saw the game featured, and he was going ballistic over these smokes, and for good reason). -
Need help with fourth stage operation Excess
Unintentional_submarine replied to Draconobilis's topic in General Discussion
Did it in Ibuki as well. She and the other many 8-inch gun cruisers are the best for this as they actually have a good punch in HE damage pretty much anywhere they hit. Getting 50k with direct damage should be easy for a veteran and very doable for even relatively average players. The fires come on their own. But if you struggle with them, keep shooting at a ship that has just activated DCP. You can get remarkably many fires while it is active (because each fire gets removed you have a 'free' chance next salvo again). And yes 75 ribbons simply means 75 somethings. You just need things to appear 75 times on your screen. I think this stage is one of the better individual tasks so far (in terms of how many hoops you have to jump through). It isn't 'trolololololo' impossible, nor is it even that hard, but it is hard enough that many people will need to apply themselves to get it done. It's about that level of commitment I'm looking for in these missions. -

Produced actually, hence why they only appeared relatively late in the war. -

25... To make matters even worse I was sitting near a Flint the entire battle... He got 83. -
Atago #2 Turret traverse angles
Unintentional_submarine replied to wilkatis_LV's topic in General Discussion
That's because the turret isn't just the armoured box on top. It is a structure that goes all the way down to the magazines. It is limited how much you can rotate that. Interestingly the Königsberg and Nürnberg turrets were able to rotate 720 degrees, but not free rotation (as the K-berg can ingame). Most likely Izumo. The question comes up now and then due to her B turret's position. -
[12.6.0] Aslain's WoWS ModPack Installer
Unintentional_submarine replied to Aslain's topic in Modpacks
Ok, I have a few conflicts (I assume). The torpedobeat music doesn't play, in fact I don't even get the regular pinging. And I don't get the custom minimap circles. -
Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"

Recently they mentioned that they hadn't expected people to use premium consumables as much as they did. This appears to be the result of that surprise. -
New Commander skills.
Unintentional_submarine replied to Srle_Vigilante's topic in General Discussion
You can see from the way the skill is made that it is someone who doesn't play CVs at all that made it. I can see the reasoning behind it, but the way it is done just counteracts itself. Clearly whoever came up with it, have a theoretical hope of how carriers work, but doesn't know how they actually do work. The same goes for Fiery Takeoff (or whatever it is called). That one is just so... urgh. It is a bad skill. If you can repair the fire before the planes are ready, no use, in fact then it is worse as it increases the reload time. It only has some practical use at the lower tiers where carriers sometimes get caught out. But 95% of the time it is a worse than useless skill. Obviously some surface skipper came up with that idea, because that's what he thinkhs would counter him when he is in their face in T5. But he doesn't consider that most battles he is never close to the carrier and the skill is useless. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Unintentional_submarine replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
It was a somewhat weird battle. And while we won, we could have won sooner if the big ships didn't decide to run all the way from one cap to our own, only to fight a small incursion. I failed getting the kill on that German DD. Had him pegged the entire battle, and then he landed the one shell that eventually killed me. Talk about annoying. Anyway, it was good seeing you and aside from the somewhat more than usual starchy tuber behaviour, it was an enjoyable battle. Not too long ago I ran into Bellegar. We didn't manage to chat much as we were both heavily engaged, in fact we only saw each other pretty much post-mortem. But greetings were shared and jokes were said. It was a positive after yet another string of backbreaking attempts at carrying. I don't even remember if we won... I think we did, but it wasn't the win that I remembered, clearly.
