OK, so what Accout/Flags/Skill Points did you get?
Unintentional_submarine replied to Cirrus4000's topic in General Discussion
Technically speaking, for the first couple of tiers the high point captains are only marginally better, given that they will never finish their retraining on the ships. For instance if I dish out silver I still need to generate 4000 XP to retrain. That means he will probably not get retrained until late in the St. Louis (my IJN captain went DD and haven't looked at hte XP requirements there). And then all over again the next tier. Oh, and I got into the 10% group. -

Since it is in now, there really isn't much point to voting on it -
Ships helping each other in taking out fire
Unintentional_submarine replied to StarScreeeam's topic in General Discussion
Wouldn't say it needs it, but it is certainly something that would add to the gameplay. -
So the effect is... cancellation, as those people are also the ones that can evade torps and don't go into places where DDs rule. So the two of you spend most of the match trying to kill each other.
-
Lots of secondaries? Hardly. Just a little bigger than other cruisers. 4 150mms on each side isn't that impressive. It is the torpedoes that really matter. And that will make her a cruiser. She can either be a special cruiser, or a very weak BB. I much prefer the special cruiser.
-
Kongo will probably also be an awesome sealclub. Granted the Myogi won't be as problematic, but it doesn't really matter as the Kongo remains better and will still get tiered up against lower tiers quite often. The main problem will be the handful of DD and CV sealclubbers, but they will probably be busy killing the teammates.

And smoke expelling from the barrels. It looks rather good, and should be commended. -
Ships helping each other in taking out fire
Unintentional_submarine replied to StarScreeeam's topic in General Discussion
They have a similar function in WT ground forces, and surprise surprise, people actually do roll over and help with repairs now and then. Even if it isn't readily obvious (such as just regular repairs rather than requiring a tow). In WoWs there is only really one situation where it is applicable, so we could probably expect people to do it a bit more. If someone wants to risk his ship in a hot zone to put out a fire, let him. I would probably not do it unless the ship on fire was either safe, or at very long range from the enemy (20km or more). It would be a helpful little skill, and here I mean skill as it is obvious it wouldn't always be a good idea to help with the fire (the skill being when to help). -
Tool tips for detailed battle report, please!

That would not be a bad thing to be honest. -
It also adds more scout planes for cruisers and BBs right?

And that is why I quoted a post where it was suggested that the skill be lowered to 127mm. I know that the Mogami is included, that is what that sub-discussion has been about for a few pages. And if you look at the patch notes the skill mentions the skill is supposed to apply to secondaries, which as per WG's previous record, not a great conclusion to the subject, only more confusing. Which German ships ever had 280mm secondaries, or had them planned? You thinking of the corsair styled carrier-cruisers or what you would call them? On those it would be a main battery.
-
And then we run into the Grem with it's 130mm guns (presumably other Soviet DDs will have big guns) and the German DDs with their 150mm guns. It is a skill that can't be balanced on gun size alone. It can be balanced on class however.
-
The biggest fail I have witnessed was a Grem. I was battling it out at North, going from the north down into the C cap (was Standard battle though) in my Farragut, was confronted by a few cruisers and turned back alongside a Mutsuki. In my turn I noticed friendly torps coming at me and only just managed to avoid them. Gave an angry comment that people shouldn't do that (we were three ships down there), but sailed on to the channel near B. In the meantime, the expected torper, a Grem managed to TK the Mutsuki I have sailed alongside. Twice he had launched his torps from behind, outside his range from enemy ships. Ok, he was a bad DD skipper, so what, he isn't near me. We started to win and I pushed for their cap, trading shots with a New Mexico and a Pensacola. The Pensacola sank and the New Mexico was pretty focused on me, so I sailed behind the little island with the wreck below B. As I passed around the island I see white triangles coming at me, flank shot, bracketing me perfectly. I exploded in rage! Even before I got hit I could see it long way coming... It was so infuriating. Possibly the best torpedo shot I have ever experienced being hit by in a DD, and it was a TK. A bloody second TK in a game. The TK-loving Grem then managed to launch yet another dangerous volley behind a cruiser (can't remember which class now), he managed to evade the torps. The worst part? The Grem was clearly not an intentional TKer. Every torp volley was aimed at a specific target on the enemy team, but he was so incompetent it was staggering.

USN DDs and firepower through the tiers.
Unintentional_submarine replied to Xmasbeer's topic in General Discussion
Well the Gearing's guns were only intended to be nerfed to 12 rpm, but they stayed at 20. So the Gearing is for a few days at least, still an insane gunmachine. -
WG is extremely talented at the art of confusing people. And whenever they post patch notes, one should always take them with a grain of salt... or a block, you might need it.
-
Quoting myself here. The patch notes clarify the captain's skill is supposed to work for secondary guns, not main batteries. Thus Mogami shouldn't be able to take advantage of the skill any longer. However, since there are contradictory notes in the very same list and WG's less than stellar patch note applications in the past, this can hardly be considered a given.

The 155mms also have the advantage of being better against DDs. But really, unlike just as 3.1 arrived, it is now a valid option to go 203mm. The AP will punch through cruisers for some awesome citadels, and some BBs as well. The 155mms have serious trouble in that department. Also the 155s have a relatively slow traverse compared to the 203s. If the range buff from the skill stays, I would argue that the 155s are more versatile. Especially since fire appears to do more damage per tick. Obviously it was underpowered! However, I can't believe that the skill is supposed to make smaller guns longer ranged than guns that were upgrades and longer ranged in real life. I would expect it to be reduced to 150mm in order to see this particular backwardsness removed.

The Germans had plans for submarine hydrofoils... The idea was that they would lie in ambush in shallow waters, rise up and attack then run for the hills (pun intended). And naturally they also had plans for more regular hydrofoils. None were built of course, as with so many German wunder-waffes. Of course not. What was I thinking.
-
And the same applies to pretty much every other ship in the game. Naturally, DDs being small and light had more of a difference between sustained speed and top trial speed, but even cruisers tended to be a couple knots behind their trial speed, and even battleships rarely reached their trial speeds. Shimakaze reached 40.9 knots in in her very light load trials, but that is the speed used ingame. Hence the Le Fantasque class can certainly be given it's trial speed also. Though the Italians took it to the extreme and overloaded their engines to a dangerous degree. Meanwhile Le Terrible could maintain high speed for a lengthy period. Thus I don't think the Navigatori or Capitani Romani classes could be allowed their 43kn. Have seen 41kns being thrown around as a top 'safe' speed, which wouldn't surprise.
-
The Le Fantasque class might enter the game at some point, hopefully soon. 45 knots with regular speed and 50.85 knots with both flag and speed boost. It should feel pretty damn fast.

New carrier plane loadouts
Unintentional_submarine replied to Calapine's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I saw a Cleveland fighter scout kill two Ranger fighters just last night... 6vs1 and it still killed two, after the Cleveland was sunk mind you. They are crazy good for some reason, and if they catch up to bombers will do a number on them. And apparently they don't really run out of ammo. I would certainly not like to attack into the face a couple of those guys. -
Damage Done Statistics and other statistics
Unintentional_submarine replied to Aerroon's topic in General Discussion
All right, I gave your posts another look, and it seems I managed to combine two points into one. When you mentioned the coming big dispersion for guns fired at no target, and then talked about doing the same for torps, I got concerned. I didn't want torps to have a RNG effect on their spread. Still, I don't think the dodged or 'angled' effectiveness will tell us much, we are probably already avoiding something like 93% of the potential damage most of the time (just think of the potential value of a Fuso broadside, it is absolutely massive). When the figures are so high, the difference between a great player and a relatively bad one will be rather small, say 1-2 percent over the course of many battles. And of course it is affected by what sort of ship you go up against. A Des Moines will most likely drive your avoidance up because it can do so much potential damage, but never gets anywhere near it (and let's be happy for it). So I still maintain that the effective damage stat is the one that should be concentrated on. -

I don't blindfire on the open ocean of course. Too many variables. But if we take North and the area around the C cap, the northern side often draws in a cruiser or BB, and it is very predictable in it's path. It might slow down, but it is generally not an issue as it can't really move around easily. And that's my point, blindfire is awesome for ambushes. Take that away and you effectively limit DDs to long range sniping. Lying in wait behind an island as a BB come around the corner, I almost never wait until I can see him. I would rather miss and live to tell the tale than risk dying a very embarrassing death. Or worse, if the opening is too small for waiting until the target is visible (the lead required would put the torps into something blocking the path), Fault Line with the narrow gap at C comes to mind. It would be horrible to not have the option to take advantage of a BB/CA out of place. -
New carrier plane loadouts
Unintentional_submarine replied to Calapine's topic in General Discussion
The tier 5 skill adds a fighter and dive bomber to the squadrons (not a torp bomber though) That goes without saying. But I think it is pretty clear that even WG knows that 3 IJN TB squadrons is too weak presently at Tier 10. Meanwhile it isn't OP at the lower tiers either as those planes are a lot more fragile and tend to suffer considerably more losses even on simple attacks.
