    New Mexico

The New Mexico is everything that is good in the Standard Battleship line, all summed up. It is very tough. It is actually rather agile for a battleship. It has good secondaries for it's tier. It has a very powerful broadside, that, importantly, is very accurate. It has good AA (not awesome, but considerably better than Fuso's and certainly as good as Warspite's). It has very good turret arcs for such big turrets (it does away with the derp turrets on the Wyoming and New York). In essence it has all the good qualities, but none of the weaknesses aside from the two main ones, range and speed. I have yet to hear anyone, seriously, say that New Mexico isn't good.

    plz remove two brothers map

The principle of Two Brothers is good. But the execution is not that great. It seems it is a huge Draw-sponge because in a slower ship, you can more than other maps pick the wrong path. Now imagine both sides doing that and you end up with a couple of USN BBs chasing each other around the island. Obviously Domination doesn't count. At higher tiers I would think it works wonderfully. But it isn't a map for slow ships.

Dev guide to fixing "WHAAA CV ARE OP PLZ NERF"

Planes already give XP. 40 planes = 1 ship of the same tier. So obviously killing planes from a CV two tiers lower won't generate much XP.
  4. Unintentional_submarine

    Autodrop

And just to pre-empt any arguments that the CV player intentionally does it. It is very very unreliable. The torps do their dance pretty much in way that it is impossible to predict (that's why it sucks for the target too). So a CV that tries to do it, is very likely to miss more than if he tries to do a more regular manual drop to the flank. But that doesn't help in the cases where you get that one in twenty freak drop that lands all four/six torps on your bow. It is painful and annoying as hell. And this is exactly why I don't want 'dispersion' for torps in general. Being the target of them it is as important to be able to reliably predict them, as it is when launching them. I would not be happy to die to a torp that went mad and was nowhere near the intended target that I had rightly predicted would be the target of an enemy torp attack. It would mess with the entire idea of getting people to stop sailing in a line as they would suddenly argue "why bother", even if very flawed.

    German ship stats

Really? Hm, haven't noticed it. But then again recoil on the big guns was surprisingly short, so not noticing it doesn't mean it isn't there.

Personally I have always (since I have known of it of course) liked the Imperial ensign the most. It just speaks to me. The torpedoes looks like they go from about 30 degrees front to 30 degrees rear. If that's correct it is a massive 120 degree arc on either side. The rear is pretty certain, looking at the top down view (30 degrees should clear the 150mm turret), the front I base on a few seconds around 1:36 where the guns aim forward. It really looks like they are pointed in the direction the guns are, which is pretty well forward. There is nothing to obscure the torps around those degrees (unlike the 150mm turret to the rear), so if it can turn that far, it should be able to fire that far. I do rather like her camoscheme. It looks about right. Thankfully they didn't pick her summer 1942 scheme.

    Chibi Battleships-Smaller, Faster and Cuter

Yeah, their armour is nothing comparable to the big cruiser killers. And they also had fewer guns. And were slower... The last we have seen about them is that they are at the top of the German cruiser line. I disagree with that position (seriously, weaker armour and slower than both DM and Zao, and Zao will certainly match it in gun penetration and overmatch it in torpedoes), but not with the line. Even if they were to use the P-class it wouldn't really change much, perhaps just the better 28cm guns from the Scharnhorsts, but otherwise pretty much the same. But the problem really is that Germany didn't have many plans for more modern heavy cruisers. Admiral Hipper is basically as good as it gets, and while a perfectly fine class, it isn't T10 material.

    Autodrop

LOL Hope it will be fixed too as it is utterly unpredictable what will happen when you turn towards TBs and they keep coming. Actually when they do keep coming I usually get a little worried as everything can happen, and in a smaller weak ship that is bad.

    German ship stats

Still an interesting compromise choice given the ship and the ensign doesn't mesh. I had expected the 'usual' replacement flag (swastika replaced with Maltese cross), like seen in the Hearts of Iron series. Or the one used in the Silent Hunter series where there was simply nothing in that space.

A bit worried about the population

The Cleveland damage is obviously because of damage against battleships. And since the XP is lower it is reasonable to assume they are lower tier BBs on average. If that isn't a noobtrap then I don't know what is. Those Clevelands should have been targeting destroyers and other cruisers, which in my humble opinion is something the Cleveland excels at. Instead it gets out XPed by the Aoba, which is admittedly better at killing cruisers, but is less effective against destroyers and battleships (sometimes you just can't avoid fighting them). Take note that I'm surprised at how poorly it does, because I would expect it to do better in the XP department because of it's tremendous damage capability. But it seems it is 'wasted' on the ships that can best take it.
  11. Unintentional_submarine

    BBs need buffs.

That's actually a rather common thing. I do it pretty often. Last time was yesterday, twice. One St. Louis (yes I did, two citadels and four regular hits) and one Phoenix. Gotta love those WTF comments in chat afterwards.

    Chibi Battleships-Smaller, Faster and Cuter

Well, maybe, just maybe they could get their own functionality. You know like the other four. And it isn't as if WG hasn't fiddled with stats to make ships fit the tiers. For instance, you really don't want the Wyoming to have it's real late hull AA (total deathzone for the tier), or the Japanese late cruiser guns. And among the DDs guns and torps are to put it mildly, quite strange. Clearly these, shall we call them light battlecruisers, since they are smaller than their battleship counterparts (that is of same age ships), unlike the older battlecruisers which were generally as big or even larger, could work with that. Imagine them having only mildly larger turning circles than cruisers (to make up for their lack of bulges I suppose), but still have a nasty AA sting. Just plopping them into the battleship line would probably work badly, unless heavy statchanges were made. For instance, let's say B-65 is made into T5. Now why is Kongo worth it? Because while the 14 inchers are only just about as powerful in penetration their alpha is much greater. Also as noted the Kongo class was fitted with bulges, which the Alaska never got, and the others weren't supposed to get either, so she would be more survivable agianst torpedoes. Finally while the armour looks similar, the Kongo class is bigger and with more structural strength. While the refit didn't increase the belt, it did add a lot of internal support and strengthened bulkheads. Penetrations would be contained better. In any case, such fancy ships don't belong in the low tiers. They are the pinnacle of technology in a certain line. They belong in the high tiers. Sure you can have outliers like the Hashidate, Erie and Hermelin, but the other ships generally fit the tier/age well enough (Cleveland excepted of course), as should these.

    Bl4ckBaron's WoWs Damage Checklist

Thanks. This should prove valuable. Especially the fires and flooding information is great. A little surprised that torps get less damage if they hit the same place that is already heavily damaged. I supposed that is why we can have those utterly silly situations like that Immortal Sims that was posted a few weeks ago. Haven't actually seen any scouts fighters or spotter planes be grounded due to module damage. Is this just very uncommon or what?
  14. Unintentional_submarine

    German ship stats

Yes, now it just needs to be seen if they are functional or not. And I noticed the ensign too. Interesting compromise choice.
  15. Unintentional_submarine

    Starting fires with AP ammo.

The AP shells have a negative chance to cause fires in the files (HE among BBs have around 0.3 while AP has -0.5, so minus 50%). So technically speaking, it shouldn't happen. However I experienced during CBT that AP caused fires a few times. I haven't noticed it since though.
  16. Unintentional_submarine

    Chibi Battleships-Smaller, Faster and Cuter

Quite. Kongo retained her weak 203 mm belt. That's not battleship level armour. It's only two thirds of what Hood had, and people still call her a battlecruiser (wrongly in my mind). The real kicker is when the Japanese changed the designation. It was when they added the torpedobulges in the first refit. That reduced her speed to 25 knots, and that was apparently not enough for a battlecruiser to the Japanese. Mind you, that first refit barely touched upon protection other than those bulges.

    Did they nerf money rewards?

Do you honestly believe that is the common figure? I know it is fashionable among a segment of forumgoers that every carrier can do this and no skill is required for it, but obviously not everyone achieves such figures.
  18. Unintentional_submarine

    Did they nerf money rewards?

Those first numbers sound like unopposed CV play. Considering your statpage, I would say you had a free reign with the Hosho and Zuiho, but now that you are playing the Ryujo you are facing Clevelands and Atlantas more often, as well as competent enemy CVs. Your XP gain has certainly sufered a drop. And when the XP goes down, money goes down too. Of course Premium might have had an impact (say if you had a month of Premium)? In any case, there hasn't been any reduction in credit income that I have noticed. I still get the old figures.
  19. Unintentional_submarine

A bit worried about the population

I am honestly a little surprised at the Minekaze's result. I checked out the Grem and it ranks higher than it. So, based on these stats, the Minekaze is the least powerful T5 DD. And it is often regarded as the most OP DD in the game (personally I think the Grem is the most powerful DD for it's tier). Could it be that torps aren't OP? *gasp* The same goes for the Kongo... I mean I like the New York more than most people (the amount of flak that thing gets... I simply don't get it), but I still think the Kongo is significantly better, and my stats back me up. But apparently the Asians can't make it work as well as the supposedly rather crappy New York. And it is a repeat with the Fuso, though I think the reason it scores worse than the excellent New Mexico, is the thing that has sparked a lot of discussions regarding OPness in the past. It's long range (might also explain the Kongo). Bad'ish players will hang back and not impact the battle much, simply because they can. Long range is a sort of noob trap for these otherwise excellent battleships. Cleveland is markedly worse than the Aoba? Another noob trap? It invites so much to HE that people fail to use AP at all? Still, even with HE all the time, it is a great ship. And while I certainly think the Aoba has been unappreciated in the past, I wouldn't mark it as so clearly superior (it is superior to me, just not by this much). Overall very interesting statistics. Some of which certainly confirm what we have talked about in the past, but others are just as strange as those were 'correct'. Admittedly, base stats for all players don't really take into account ships that are hard to master but have a high skill reward. The top 10% stats are good for that. And there the Kongo evens with the New York and surprisingly, the Yubari completely trumps the Kuma and evens with the Phoenix (wtf?). Furrytaco remains crap and then some in the hands of the 10% best players, so even if I and a few others can make it work, it is just bad and nothing can really say otherwise (not that I didn't know this). Pepsi does a lot better (Myoko just does even better), but interestingly the Cleveland doesn't and the Aoba continues to walk all over it. Fuso loses terrain to New Mexico, which is in itself a surprise, as long range accuracy is one of the things you can actually improve a lot. But apparently not as much as closer range citadels in a more durable ship. Same with the Nicholas, it keeps it's advantage over the Minekaze, barely changing in relative terms. The Grem knocks the teeth out of both of them, much as I expected it to. These are all high number ships. I avoided looking at the higher tiers as you end up with sub-1000 battles sampled. If this keeps up I might have to revise a few assumptions I have made.

Compared to when? Because I haven't really seen any reduction as of late.

Hmm I wonder if it counts, but I have seen a Tirpitz in a stream (iChase last night). But it was only that one battle and it was unfortunately very brief and not close enough to get any details. The guy having it was a staff member, just so people don't get their hopes up just yet. But since he was allowed to pilot it around, I think it is a pretty safe bet that the update with them is not very far off. At most a week, I reckon.

It is either or... not really an issue. The Premium ship will be incredibly similar to the tiered ship.

    BBs are underpowered

And that's why some people do well with battleships and others do not, right? There is RNG involved, but it is about stacking the deck in your favour. Citadels were hard for me to get initially. Now, they are practically second nature. Aiming is important obviously, but it is equally important to know when to shoot and when not to shoot. Once you learn how to do these things the citadels will roll in. And as an added benefit, one that is much less reliant on RNG (meaning it is quite easy to achieve) is massive regular penetration hits. It isn't uncommon to see 12-15k damage salvoes with no citadels. You don't get that by praying to RNGesus. You get that by shooting well. I'm good, but I'm not the best, far from it. How can that be if it is just a matter of RNG? How can someone be so consistently better than me? Born under a lucky star I suppose?
  24. Unintentional_submarine

Ok WG, you win. I'll pay. Seriously, name a price, however much you want.

Hah, we have almost the same stats with her. I have marginally more damage, kills and accuracy with guns, you have quite a bit more on torps and actually have capping points () and a bit more def points.

Ah yes of course, forgot about the DP guns. The size difference... meh (odd... can't really find anywhere where it is specifically said the 140mms were replaced). But those DPs do make a marked difference. The real kicker is what sort of RoF the German guns have relative to the Japanese. In any case, clearly the Tirpitz has beastly secondaries. [EDIT] Of course it is odd, Nagato retained her 140mm guns, and does the same ingame.
