Take note of the ensign. So they switched the early 30s with a modified variant (of the usual sort I might add) of the later 30s-40s. Interesting.
-
What the... after than ensign issue, they went and used the regular modified flag? Well, that's a surprise.

Any news on when the skillships will be nerfed? (CVs)
Unintentional_submarine replied to fenrirspup's topic in General Discussion
Can't you just use the replay? Since you are an old hand I would assume you have it enabled. Sure, it is slightly wonky for carriers at the moment, but it does show the correct things. -
Pretty bug! Omaha is bad ship now ~!

Interesting... OP mentions a bug, and I see his post bugging out (text goes off the screen). That's some deep crap there. -
A bit worried about the population

They changed it? I know that it used to affect the 3 inchers, but that was back in late CBT. -
What's your favourite and most hated map?
Unintentional_submarine replied to Admiral_noodle's topic in General Discussion
Disliked: Hot Spot. That cross spawn is just stupid. It seldomly work in the way it is supposed to, and mainly just pisses people off. It doesn't really make anyone consider their actions, but rather just force them to run in a particular direction. Liked: Hot Spot. Yup. I actually think the design of the map is great. When the game doesn't devolve into a merry-go-round or a crush of one corner, it can be decidedly thrilling to play because there is always another feature on the map you have to keep an eye on. It is those first 5 minutes... -
They also use a weighted accuracy. They dispersion isn't completely random within the envelope of the dispersion ellipse. It is weighted towards the center, thus you get more hits there than the edge. I have long speculated that this weighting is actually variable. For ships like Fuso, it might be lower, while for Warspite it might be higher. This does however mean that when Warspite derps completely her shots will go crazy. And my observance of streamed Warspites tend to confirm that. Warspite does at time derp and hit on another map, but mostly it's shells fly in more true path than Fuso. Similarly New Mexico has a terrible dispersion/km ratio, but she is actually a quite accurate ship. The most clear case of this has to be Aoba vs Cleveland. They have the same dispersion and about the same range (leaving out skills that impact Cleveland more). But Aoba is significantly more accurate, and I don't mean just because of the faster shells (which naturally help), but the spread pattern is generally much better. And of course Nagato. Supposedly good dispersion, but tends to scatter her shells at longer ranges. Now couple that with the minimum dispersion, and you can see why some ships have terrible close range dispersion, while others seem rather fine there.

The line-splits will not come this year. That is pretty much certain. The simple fact is that WG is more interested in getting more nations in, rather than expand existing nations (each ship takes a rather long time to model it seems). And I get that line of thought, and actually agree with it. What we have now with the IJN and USN is quite workable. Could be better of course, but since it functions, I prefer to get more navies with different design styles and philosophies. Then we can begin to worry about splitting the cruisers and heavy units. But once it happens, I'll be very happy. I love battlecruisers, they are generally more fun for me, even with their weaknesses. The IJN has a lot of designs in the locker. Tosa, Kii, Number 13, B65 and a slew of late war cruisers. There is plenty to pick from, and they are bound to get at least some of them in time. It might mean that they too can get a BC line (though Kongo is sort of the only good option for T5 in both lines).

Yes, dispersion is for max range. And yes that means Fuso has a better dispersion/km.

It is the intention that battlecruisers for at least some nations will be separated from the battleships. In the case of the USN chances are that they will just be single ship branch-offs for the Alaska and Lexington classes (it is going to be odd with both a carrier and battlecruiser Lexington, but as long as we will get it, I don't care). For other nations, like the Germans and British there is room for actual lines with at least a few ships in a row.

I see you failed to see what the hull upgrade does... Kongo has but one real advantage over Fuso (her upgraded turrets also rotate about 2 seconds faster). Speed. Everything else has Fuso superior. I suppose if you want to be technical about it, stock Kongo has better range than stock Fuso.

Kongo...The Biggest Piece of [edited] in the Game?
Unintentional_submarine replied to kbb07142's topic in Battleships
I remember. But arguably it was fair as the turrets were about that slow. -
It certainly isn't great. But it isn't that bad. If you treat it as a Wyoming for those battles you can get some value out of it in that configuration. You still have that massive broadside that will devastate enemies. So you have to play it differently. Get closer and then get back in safety (no, don't reverse...) after doing your business. Some maps are just a pain though (Ocean comes to mind).

Sooo... Is the Albany any use whatsoever?
Unintentional_submarine replied to piritskenyer's topic in Cruisers
It is very much a derpy ship. However it does have an advantage. It is incredibly small. It is short, it is low and it is almost destroyer thin. You can expect to not get hit by torpedoes. -

Yeah, just because it is worse for IJN doesn't mean you should ignore it. -
Chibi Battleships-Smaller, Faster and Cuter
Unintentional_submarine replied to Bl4ckh0g's topic in General Discussion
The O-class might appear good on paper, but there is a reason it had the nickname "Ohne Panzer Quatsch", a wordplay on the three ships being O P and Q (meaning without armour nonsense). Every post-war analysis of the class has had it come up short. Even the Americans were decidedly unsatisfied with the Alaska class. The things is that even though their armour was supposed to withstand heavy cruisers, it really couldn't. They could still riddle it well and hurt plenty things. What it could do was to make sure that an O-class could beat a heavy cruiser in an even fight, and do so decisively. Add another heavy cruiser and it would have to run, something a battleship like Bismarck or Tirpitz would never have to do. So if Germany had built three of those instead of the two Bismarcks, the RN could simply have bottled them up with heavy cruisers. A sortie would run into them and from the beginning would have to run a gauntlet. To say nothing of facing a battleship. At least the two heavy ships could fight them and not be expected to get split down the middle. The 34 knot speed was not really feasible for longer periods. That's also one of the advantages of the Bismarck class. They could maintain high speed for a long period of time, even if it wasn't as high. For the game it is a near perfect sort of ship though. Faster, more nimble, still powerfully armed. It is like taking the present IJN BB line to an extreme conclusion. It's weaker armour mitigated somewhat by angling better, and it's high top speed making it able to run down cruisers with ease. -
Kongo...The Biggest Piece of [edited] in the Game?
Unintentional_submarine replied to kbb07142's topic in Battleships
Don't be daft. Of course you can easily get citadels with the Kongo. You just need to be able to aim a bit. Now, Kongo does have thinner armour and bigger engines (you don't get 30 knots from nothing). So of course she will never be able to tank hits one to one with the USN battleships. Only an idiot would play her like that. But angle her, expose when the enemy has expended his broadside and you will take USN battleships down with ease. Don't forget that both the New York and Wyoming have those derpy turrets that have bad forward angles. What most people tend to do is to get all turrets on target, and what is exactly what a good Kongo skipper hopes for, as it pretty much presents him with a big wide citadel target, while he can use his ship's superior turret angles to be not only smaller but also bounce a lot more shells. -
In case you mean WG, then they didn't. Nagato features prominently in the login screen, with turret range finders and AA emplacements on the turrets. Clearly WG knew what Nagato looked like, but decided not to use that.
-
As I said, you can't really take advantage of it since you don't really know for sure how the torps will react. While the torps do their dance based on the angle and speed of the target, even the slightest change in those things that it is a very new pattern. Thus lining up perfectly will still not grant a certain 'perfect' drop, as nobody is that perfect so as to not have half a degree off or the target changes course a little. But again, that doesn't make it any better when you get that sucky pattern that kills you. In fact it just makes it even worse.

Main Battery Modification 2
Unintentional_submarine replied to Fi_8_8_8_8's topic in General Discussion
It is an excellent module for the Grem though. And very much worth it. -
For whatever reason do you think that BB players are better now than then? Also, if you mean because of the frontal citadel hits that cruisers can take, then you should know that this is an event after that patch. Frontal citadels are not a given.

Fighter Captain Skill + IJN Fighters
Unintentional_submarine replied to Leonadios's topic in Aircraft Carriers
Because it is a badly thought out solution to the +1 tier always win in fighter battles. Can't be said gentler. It is just a very poor skill, not in it's efficiency, but in it's impact. -
Don't forget that the dispersion is an ellipse, and that the 7% is a reduction in the radius of that. That means the actual reduction is considerably more than 7%. In a circle it means the standard 272 dispersion has an area of 234.5k square meters, while the reduced area is 201k square meters. Or a reduction of just shy of 15%. Now it is an ellipse, so it isn't that much, but it isn't a very flat one either, so a good 12% wouldn't be too far off. You will see a marked difference in accuracy.

Does anyone want AA guns on USS Arkansas Beta?
Unintentional_submarine replied to Bogdan_Andrei's topic in Battleships
It was horrible in the early OBT. Now, when all the good CVs have moved on, it doesn't really feel all that bad. Beginner CVs firstly don't know what it is (or that it lacks AA) but they are also easily thrown off their aim. In fact it seems some actively avoid the Arkansas because they know it belongs to a player with experience. It's quite odd to sit in a ship with no AA and have planes break off and fly towards more compliant targets. Nevertheless, it is much appreciated. -
Yeah, my CBT time in her told me that her long range was pretty much just effective for letting me do something until the enemy got in proper range. And it allowed me to roll the dice for some bonus damage. I like to think of her as a sumo wrestler (of course Yamato is the yokozuna).
