    North Carolina vs Tirpitz

Nice. Care to share with us the ranges you mostly get citadels? Personally I have gotten most of them around the 12-15km mark, and only a single close up (which I think was a hit to the forward magazine). Most certainly. He is/was incredibly biased, but his technical skills I have found no problems with. Whenever he states something that can't really easily be quantified, it is important to look a little harder at what he says. You don't have to be wrong to still do wrong, and I think he has/had a tendency to fall into that, letting his personal opinion show through in pieces regarding technical calculations.

You do know that I linked his analysis exactly for it's penetration calculations right? Not for the other stuff, of which I don't really agree (which was why I specifically mentioned his bias/slant). In fact I have the issue with that paper that he does some pretty excellent work on calculating the validity of the scheme, and then goes on to argue why it isn't good enough based on things which are outside the scope of the armour scheme (like that torpedo hit which would have done similar things to other battleships). That's like comparing the Battle of Britain Spitfire and Bf109 and concluding the Spitfire was better because it had the homefield advantage. It might be true, but that wasn't really what the comparison was about, unless you specifically mention the conditions, at which point, I might add, the comparison becomes absolutely pointless because of the obvious advantage for the Spitfire. But the calculations of penetration possibilities are quite solid. Unless new info has been uncovered in regards to the quality of shells or armour plating. As far as I know, nothing of that kind has surfaced the last two decades. Thus the calculations should still hold water. Even if something has popped up, it would have to be pretty radical differences from NO's used values to change it from Yamato having to be muzzle on the belt to have a chance of citadeling, to doing it at short ranges or further out (discounting the possibility for plunging penetrations at long ranges). [EDIT] Completely forgot it. Thank you for that link. Have been wondering if there were any serious conclusions written up from the expeditions, something that seemed so logical to me.

Combined Fleet might be, but Nathan Okun is not. I don't see you posting up anything more credible which you are free to do.

    Tirpitz bug/issue with 150mm secondaries

To illustrate the matter I present screenshots; first the 105mm, then the 150mm and finally a Japanese 127mm DP for comparison. As is clear, the German 150mm is woefully underpowered, having less rate of fire as well as much less powerful shot.

WG, please stop these fail divisions

The point is that the enemy fail division can impact you! Instead of getting the correctly tiered carrier, you get one that really shouldn't be there. Sure it can happen normally as well, but with this it is a given. Personally I have seen a Langley get dragged into a T7 match because my side had a Myoko-Langley division. I'm sure that enemy Langley had a jolly good time.

Much bigger explosion when BB die

Yeah and it is awesome! When I see a ship having it I have a bit of joy. Hmmm... that sounded better in my head. But it only really happens near the 'end' of the sinking, so it is usually not noticed. Having it start out with a roll onto the side would make it more pronounced. Anyway, we have finally gotten good death sounds for regular kills, but for citadel/magazine kills and detonations I would like to see a more spectacular result. Naturally with different sounds, the detonation should naturally have a tremendous thunderclap. A non-destroyer getting killed by torpedoes should really have a more pronounced list and maybe rollover like Barham (the explosion isn't required but could be useful for battleships as it seems a lot of them did have their magazines blow up when they rolled over).

4 point captain skill for IJN Destoyer

75%, that's pretty impressive. I think that seals the deal for me.

RU dev talks about the new accuracy buff on 0.4.1

Yes it applies to all ships, though by the virtue of their higher dispersion, the battleships probably felt it the most.

Less Accuracy camouflage, Air Supremacy, line drifting half-fixed

Thank you, I know the difference between the two. I based my comment on the fact that the icon of the scout fighter isn't that of a fighter, and that it functions in a different way. But apparently the game does treat it as a fighter similar to the carrier fighters.

    North Carolina vs Tirpitz

The Derfflingers had 305mm guns, or 12 inchers. In regards to the effectiveness of the Bismarck class' turtle back armour, I suggest reading this article. http://www.combinedfleet.com/okun_biz.htm Quite technical and long analysis of the armour. Final conclusion: That included Yamato. Mind you the author is not a fan of the Bismarck class, and stresses all the flaws he otherwise perceives with it. But in terms of penetrating the citadel, not likely for anyone at close range. I haven't been able to find anything concrete in regards to the H39, but based on what I could find, it appears that she had a somewhat weaker main belt at 300mm, but her internal armour would have been somewhat better than Bismarck's (same layout, a bit thinner, but backed up by a second armour deck and reinforced in places). H41 meanwhile appears to continue the regular scheme, but upped the protection from plunging fire substantially (based on experiences from bombings of Scharnhorst). With the game's limitations and how it works, this might be overpowered. Unable to citadel at close range, and unable to citadel at long range. If that stays, she will be a lumbering beast with no AA and super inaccurate guns to make up for it.

    Out gunned by cruisers

Or just one in the case of a Pennsylvania class... Granted Pennsylvania was just saved from sinking, but required the prompt assistance of two salvage tugs. Regardless, in game terms, she would have been sunk as that one aerial torpedo knocked her out pretty effectively.

    IJN Agano

Hm, the link derped out. Here's a reuploaded version. But no, I haven't been able to identify any torpedo tubes on that ship (have a more zoomed up picture). Not that there really is any room, with gun turrets basically spammed over all open surfaces. What gets me about that design, and in a sense why I believe it, is the top heaviness. All the turrets are raised from the otherwise flushed deck. The Japanese loved to just stack things onto their ships until they were a disaster in waiting. This is just an extreme of that incidental trait, and would likely have seen some reduction of that top heaviness in it's final form. But that was the IJN for you. In relation to it's tier, it would probably have more HP than the Atlanta, being bigger, and would probably also have better armour. Top speed, as in most IJN ships should be pretty good, at least marginally better, though accelleration might suffer. That's about all I can 'safely' grant her over Atlanta. The 100mm can't be buffed too much, since it is bound to make an appearance in the Akizuki class at some point, and unlike the multitude of USN 5 inch /38s (so you can have different stats, and they were different) there was just that one.

    North Carolina vs Tirpitz

I meant the part about bounces, which I don't really experience much against the Tirpitz. Even my New Mex doesn't get bounced all that much and can provide some absolutely impressive regular pen salvoes (considering it is T6 vs T8). Considering NC's relatively slow and high angle shells, I would say 15km and out. But of course the further out the better. I don't know if the game models the slower and heavier shells' better deck penetration, but if it does then the NC should deal well with Tirpitz at longer ranges, provided the shells hit of course. However, personally I don't feel that it is worth fishing for citadels. The regular pens do plenty well in my opinion.
  14. Unintentional_submarine

    North Carolina vs Tirpitz

Can only repeat this. My experience both against as well as with the Tirpitz is that she doesn't bounce well. She doesn't take citadels easily (though plunging fire does work better than other battleships of that range), but it seems that the magazines are a fair bit easier to get hits into. That is naturally a double-edged sword as going for them means aiming for a much smaller section of the ship (resulting in more misses that could have been regular penetrations). But what she has in citadel protection she lacks in regular penetration protection. It is not uncommon to see 10-20k regular penetration salvoes. And honestly, I'll take that over overpenning or citadelling. In my experience, damage is a lot more consistent against Tirpitz. Overall it might be less than others, but they can mitigate their chances of citadels more than a Tirpitz can mitigate serious regular penetrations. But that's just my experience. So my evaluation of the OP's situation was that it was just more unlucky than normal.

    IJN Agano

With a broadside of 18 100mm guns, I'm not entirely sure it would be more than T8, if that. Think about the Atlanta and remove it's torps. And it probably has a heavier broadside on account of heavier shells for equal rate of fire. The Atlanta is already a gimmick at T7, this would be even more so, so I can't see it more than one tier up.

    Introducing Ship Leaderboards at WarshipStats.com

It tracks those that have signed up. So you have to actively activate the tracking. Obviously a lot of people won't do that. Even so, you can probably consider yourself among the very top of Haku players, since the better the player the more likely he is to have signed up.

Fail div and its impact if CV

Wow... that's bad. Have only seen it from the other side of things, but is worse. At least the innocent Langley in my example was but one guy, in this case it was an entire enemy team.

    Furutaka 4.1

But that's not really the faul of the ship, now is it? I recently got killed in my Arkansas Beta by a single HE shell to the flagpole in the rear. Detonation and I was out. But that wasn't the fault of the Arkansas, it was just really annoying RNG.
  20. Unintentional_submarine

    LAngley Fighter problem.

This can totally be the reason. Sometimes fighters just derp out completely and don't get an attack order even if you appear to click right on the enemy planes. Fighters that are attacked, but not ordered to attack back, don't actually fight (or do so very badly). It is stupid, but that's how it is. This is also how you can get a drop on an enemy that has spread out. If he is occupied somewhere else, you can attack his idle fighters and give them a good workover before he can come back and order them to attack back.

    IJN Agano

Yes, there were apparently plans for such a ship. But it was probably just late war hopes, more than real plans. Anyway, you can find the outline of her here and there. Third from the bottom. The others as far as I understand are Mogami, Tone, Zao (as we know her), Oyodo, Agano, Agano Kai and finally a very special AA cruiser with 24(!!!) 100mm DP guns in 12 double turrets, sort of like an IJN Atlanta without the torps. But even the Agano Kai would be pretty weak with 8 150mm guns. But I suppose they could get the theoretical 10 rpm to make up for it.

    IJN Agano

I knew I forgot about one of the scout plane tenders... The refitted Mogami. She could be T7 in my list and Tone be moved up to T8 (which if she gets something from the planes other than just regular scout fighters would be quite fitting).
  23. Unintentional_submarine

    Flooding damage WTF?

They have slowly been adding more and more. Now we get ships that half capsize. Sometimes we even get ships that sink stern first so you can see the bow poke out and rotate as the ship rolls over under the water. In time I'm sure we will see sinkings similar to how HMS Barham went down. The reason ships explode is simply to make it clear that the ship is dead and no more fire is required. It could just as well have been a giant blinking alarm or a hooting klaxon... whatever really. But they decided that an explosion with flames and a lot of smoke would be both fitting and clear at the same time. I doubt that will change, even when we have gotten a million different sinking animations.

Fail div and its impact if CV

Pretty sure it is more than +1. I got into a game with a Ranger/Hiryu combo facing off, and two Langleys. LANGLEYS. In a T7 match. When I noticed the enemy Langley (I tend to look at the enemy team more), I wondered. This guy was alone, not in a division. On my team however was a Myoko-Langley division... That idiot fail division dragged an unsuspecting Langley into a T7 battle. I bet he had a lot of fun. In fact I know he didn't as he lost all his planes just trying to do something (and failed to even get a single hit on anything). I should have screenshotted it, I know. But I'm one of those that manage to forget to do things when there are pressing matters to attend to, at least until it is over (and by then it is too late to screenshot it). If it wasn't such a d-bag move, I would suggest testing this out. But I can't get myself to subject someone to that without his consent.
