Everything wrong with US v IJN CV Balance in 1 Picutre

Yeah, Ranger is in a tough spot. She could really do with another squadron in the balanced setup. If that were to be a fighter (most logical), she would be a Flexi-Lexi light. In my opinion she is, after the Bogue, the most frustrating carrier. She just doesn't do anything well. Not that you can't do well with her, but that is in spite of her shortcomings.

    Nagato

Like so many before me, I rather like Nagato. She has those punchy guns, and everything else but the secondaries, is good enough. The secondaries are downright awesome. She feels like a jack of all trades so to speak, but she does that really well. Fuso for instance is awesome at sitting back and throwing huge salvoes at enemies and relying on favourable numbers to achieve big hits. But if she gets close to anything she is made of citadels and is an easy takedown. Nagato? Not so much. She can shoot far, but long range hits are just bonus hits. She excels at shorter ranges, where she can overpower the Colorado with faster rate of fire and more health, New Mex by sheer power, Fuso by being tougher, and she can certainly stand against both North Carolina and Amagi without being a punching bag. In fact, she is the first battleship I feel that can fight the North Carolina on even terms and not require the enemy to be an utter fool for me to win.

    Cleveland damage?

Mine is 30%, and that is not a problem at all. It is down to the absolutely impressive range. Even with perfect aim and hitting on every salvo, you hit with so few shells at a time that it is less than 30%. At max range that is of course. But that's just bonus damage and hits. Or at least that how I treat it. If I can get a few extra hits in at long range, then good. And I can reliably hit at very long range, so it is worth it, it is just not a lot of damage. But I know it annoys the hell out of the enemies (because I get absolutely pissed when a Cleveland lands shells on me at 16+km)... Cleveland is a strange mix of both super easy, and also rather hard. It is hard to utilise it's range because of the arc and slow speed of hte shells, but the HE mechanic and number of guns and their rate of fire ensures a lot of hits. She is a rather big cruiser, high freeboard and tall superstructure, so she is easy to hit, but she has good armour and as such is an excellent angler (heh). Thus if played badly, she can seemingly suck donkeyballs, but if played well she can seemingly feel more dangerous and annoying than the cruisers after her. That duality will continue to haunt her and us, until the day of the heavy/light split.

250 gold / doublons for completing a WG survey

    Surprise surprise...

250 gold / doublons for completing a WG survey

PAX Prime is NA... supposedly GamesCom was supposed to be our 'PAX Prime', but I didn't see any survey for that (the survey alone is actually pretty good, asking about featuring streamers and such). Contests, surveys, ships? I did get to dole out a lot of money for Tirpitz sooner, I suppose that makes up for it all... (yeah that's sarcasm in case you wondered)

4 Torpedos hit! Someone keep saying only 1 hit ?

The hilarious DezGames video... It never fails to crack me up. That comment "ohhh one torp..." followed by silence after the impact. Damn, I better link it.

    [suggestion] Secondaries consumable

It wasn't in the Alpha, it was in their internal testing. It was that obviously overpowered that they didn't even let the testers try it out.

    Secondary/AA knockout

It is something most of us agree with, and it has been brought up several times since I joined in CBT. I wouldn't expect it anytime soon unfortunately. Despite it being rather simple (a bloody counter would would work acceptably).
  9. Unintentional_submarine

    [suggestion] Secondaries consumable

But wouldn't the consumable be quite similar to just buffing the secondaries? After all it isn't really all that common we get into a fight where we need the secondaries badly. And it isn't even all that common that they fire. Even something like two charges would be a massive buff as it would in my case amount of something like 100% of my secondary engagements. And that's even with the Nagato. So the way I see it, is that if we get a Defensive Fire analogue, we just got a passive buff for the secondaries, but one that would arguably be even better since it will be concentrated into limited use which we can then apply to our liking.

Release of WoWs - Changes to MM and Tier spread per battle

It will be important for those T7 troubleships. Not only are they often considered (and are) worse than their neighbours, but they have the chance of getting into T10 matches presently. After the change, you should be free from Yamatos and Montanas in your Colorado. I know, I know, an Iowa is nearly as scary, but it really should affect the survivability of the T7 ships. And no more Myogis or Wyomings in Fuso/New Mex territory. That should be good for them, as they are truly outmatched there. To say nothing of the battles in my Nagato where I have gone up against those two T4s (no faildivs)... which was baffling to be honest.

    Tirpitz bug/issue with 150mm secondaries

Yeah, not exactly a huge issue, but I noticed that now we have better stats for our secondaries that the 150mm secondaries of Tirpitz have the exact same damage as the 105mm DP guns. This is lower than every other secondary that is bigger than the 105mm. And in the case of the Japanese 152mm secondaries, a lot lower. Since it is the same value as that of the 105mm, I suspect a mistake in inputting the value (150 is after all just a minor typo away from 105), rather than it being intended.

    Tirpitz bug/issue with 150mm secondaries

You know, it could very well be connected to this. The 105mm clearly should and does fire HE, while the 150mm shouldn't, but does and has what appears to be a mistake in identity at some point. What if the guy that put in the damage for the 105mm, not only managed to mistakenly apply it to the 150mm damage, but also did so with the shell type? There is one argument against it, and that is the chance for fire, which is clearly higher for the 150mm, and thus must have been put in correctly. But who is to say that these things were all done in one setting? Also, if it fires AP, why does it need fire chance? But guess that applies to all the AP secondaries.

Why are CVs overperforming on EU only?

How would that make the EU carriers do more damage relative to the NA carriers? If we assume both servers lost as many old hands (and thus arguably among the better CV players) proportionally, then they should see an equal drop in average damage. Also, if this was the case, then the difference between EU regular and EU top 10% would be even more pronounced, with the EU regular damage being in line with the NA and SEA numbers. Someone mentioned something a while back when a similar issue was discussed. The SEA carriers had a surprisingly limited WR compared to EU as we could see it at the time (since we didn't have the EU numbers, it was purely speculation), so it was argued that the SEA server had a larger T10 CV population and thus more opponents for the carriers. As far as I remember the SEA T10 CV population was indeed proportionally larger. While, with mirror MM it is no longer of much consequence, if any, it can certainly have ingrained different playstyles in the people. On SEA, with a more or less guaranteed CV opponent in top tier matches, the CVs tended to play a lot more with fighters (something that was also commented upon with some surprise from the EU side), this is likely to have stuck post 0.4.1, while it is only just gaining traction in EU. Similarly, with nearly guaranteed T10 carriers it is hardly a surprise that the other players reacted to that and played to mitigate that, rather than stick to solo routines, which were more effective on EU when no top tier CVs were around. So, if the CV population is dropping or continues to be a once every 3-4 games thing, then we shouldn't really expect to see the EU CV damage drop, simply because for most people there isn't that imperative to mitigate them. They are an occasional predator, compared to the constant predator enemy BBs form for instance. Now it can be argued that what helps against carriers tend to help against other classes too, but we all know that it puts certain restrictions on people that they prefer to not have, or at least that is the perception. If carriers were a lot more common, say, more likely to be encountered than not, then I think things would change. Of course, it could also be that once more the changes has shaved off the least capable skippers, and put more emphasis on those that were already good. And thus, while clearly lessening the capabilities of the ships, might have accomplished nothing in regards to average damage. But this is all complete speculation.

    12 - 0 - The most one-sided battle !

I can't help but think how horrible it must have been to be in one of those super low scoring ships on the winning side... Like that South Carolina on second last position. The amount of XP clearly indicates that he tried, but he just got there too late every time (the Myogi might have been AFK most of the match with that score). That has to be worse than being on the losing side.

Zao guns getting far less citadels than before 4.1

The NO citadel could possibly have been lowered. The result would be that the nearly railgun performance of the Zao's guns result in the shells easily penning (penetrations shouldn't be the issue), but never actually hitting the citadel space. Meanwhile with a higher arc the shells still have the punch to get through the armour and then plunges into the citadel space.

Fail div and its impact if CV

I'm reviving this thread, because I ran into the aforementioned issue of a fail division dragging an enemy carrier of the same tier into a uptiered battle. (sorry for the size, imgur has changed things so now it links to max size) As you can see, in this case three T4s were dragged into a significantly higher tiered battle because of the forced mirror MM. The enemy fail division counted as T6, but with a T4 carrier dragged an opponent T4 carrier into battle, who in this case happened to be divisioned (properly) with two other T4s. This pissed me off to be honest. Especially being in a Yubari, which has it's favourable MM for a reason. Predictably both my buddy's Hosho and the enemy Langley were completely negated, the Langley even suicided his planes (well I can't know for sure, but first he attacked an Atlanta then a Colorado, that is pretty much suicide) and stayed put in the spawn and didn't even bother to put out fires. I'm a little upset that this can happen, maybe even a bit more than a little. Thankfully it doesn't happen often, but I fear the trolls might soon get a taste for it.

Why are CVs overperforming on EU only?

Not if they don't overperform on the other servers. Now I can't say that they do or do not (post 0.4.1), but hte point was that if the EU carriers continue to overperform, and they don't on the other servers, don't expect any changes.

    North Carolina vs Tirpitz

Now that you mention it, yeah, it's the frontal mags. Even 'easily' is a bit of a stretch, just it is where I get the most citadels. Personally I don't recommend fishing for citadels against Tirpitz, but rather to go for devastating regular pen salvoes. If a citadel happens, then nice bonus.

Buffalo, Dresden, Hermelin & Kamikaze Ship Stats Release

The main turrets are also single barrel, and the forward torpedo turret has been moved to the rear. Clearly it is some sort of test ship. Can't see it being fitted into the game in any valid way.

    North Carolina vs Tirpitz

I have noticed a few people trying to use HE against Tirpitz in their own BBs. I can only say, don't do that. The regular pens can cause downright incredible salvoes. In fact I get the distinct feeling that she bounces shot a lot less, and has a lot less area where you get overpens. Hence the overall result is a fairly soft ship that is just very very hard to deliver a knockout blow on. And again, the magazines appear to be less well protected for some reason. Not entirely sure how that is, but that's the area I have gotten the most citadels at.

    Japanese VO anytime soon?

[edited] hell!!!! I burst out laughing at those! I think I wouldn't be able to play IJN ships with these on, I would be unable to avoid torps because I was laughing too hard. One VO I would love: After ramming: "HONOURABU!" But real Japanese VO would be nice. You could even put in a few easter eggs, like "Tora tora tora" when you launch the first squadron from a carrier.

    Introducing Ship Leaderboards at WarshipStats.com

Maybe it does for some ships then, because I am actually 5th in the Kongo at the moment (which was quite a surprise I might add), and I had to sign up to get listed. Have you done something else other than just play the game? Make a youtube channel or something?

    QOL changes Carriers really need

I have been using that Spotter plane since I learned about it. Not even ashamed about it. In fact that has been my primary use of it for a long time, even holding back from popping it when I could potentially get super long range hits in. But honestly, good that it is finally getting fixed.
