So I've been running a test. "Operation WTR pad". Pick ships with terrible average damage on the server - my picks are USDDs, Ognevoi, Baltimore, Hood, and even Yamato. Try to play them well and get damage. Results attached. Moral? WTR is not very good. I'm just a lot better in these ships relatively (than say German BBs French or British cruisers) because the server average is so bad (people playing them wrong, recently buffed ships). So if you want better WTR you just have to pick the right ships...

Thanks a lot but i think i won't buy anything more if you continue like this

So right now I have a fair few Juliet Charlie flags. I mount them on all dds and all ships tier 8 and up. I also go for all missions that have them as a reward and always go for flag containers. If i run low on them I'll play a few low tier dd games. I'm bound to explode sooner or later. Plus it's daft fun -

I would like a detonation mechanic you could stop like flooding the magazines. But mainly we've been through detonations for what... 2 years? I'm not going to lose sleep over it. As for cost cost of the game it's very good value for money entertainment per hour per pound for me. Certainly less expensive than other things I could do. -
Suggestions to help with Battleships
Admiral_noodle replied to DocStrangeFruit's topic in General Discussion
I have an idea on that. Overall I don't think the balance is massively off. The problem isn't BBs being massively OP, it's that when (when) BBs sit back and snipe the gameplay is awful and while dds can perform their role to an extent, cruisers can't. Islands help but sitting back firing he is about all a cruiser can do if BBs won't get stuck in... if one sides BBs are doing this, they will almost certainly lose. Nerfing BBs will actually make the problem worse. They will still have big guns but if they aren't agile enough they will camp more. To counter this I would propose a change to the ribbons to promote "good behaviour". Give in game ribbons for tanking damage in a BB. Have a potential damage counter which in real time shows players they are tanking for the team. Players are more likely to chase ribbons (everyone likes ribbons) even if you don't change the game or economics at all. You can't make players less cowardly but if they think they are achieving something by getting shot at and taking some damage (and they are, the majority just don't realise or understand) behaviour would change. You could do the same with "defender" ribbons for smoking up friendlies in the end immediate UI feedback will always have the biggest impact. I learnt to defend caps before I understood how it worked because the little green ribbon came up... -
How's that whole BB plague thing working out then?
Admiral_noodle replied to The_Finnster's topic in General Discussion
When do you guys play? I never see MM like that. In fact BBs have been averaging 3-4 in games over the last few days with lots of dds. In my games anyway (and I'm not complaining my cruisers love it) -
Don't forget they changed how tier 1 works. It's pretty much impossible to do the "old" damage now... anyway. The point isn't about knowing how to interpret stats or using them as a tool to perform. It's about psychology- and insecurity. I feel like the stats judge me at times and lapse into old learned behaviours that not living up to my "stats" is somehow a "shame". All the while forgetting that I'm not twelve anymore and don't have to compete with myself in order to please my parents... and it's a game to enjoy... its likely a lot of people who have the stats problem (like me) have similar psychology. Needing to have proof we are good rather than actually being content and confident on the fact that we are actually good players...

I still have this problem although I've got over it mostly. Personal ratings are deeply flawed. Even win rate is only valid over thousands of games... One game into Mahan and it was an ok game. 40k damage a couple of kills and a win. But apparently that's super unicum. Meanwhile I can play my *** off in saint Louis and get "average". WTR rewards damage farmers. Don't be one of them. Focus on each game and treat it as a one off. Your only as good as the last game you played.

How is your Dunkirk Collection going on?
Admiral_noodle replied to Sams_Baneblade's topic in General Discussion
Why wouldn't you just cash in? As soon as I mathematically could I did. I don't think the duplicates do anything exciting. Or are you wanting to complete via RNG. -
After each game delete it from your memory. Think if you could have done things differently. If no move on. It's in the past. Maybe next game will be epic. Eventually it will be. Live for the moment. Don't dwell on past fail games. Thats about all the useful advice I can give. It does work though. Thinking like that. Every game is unique. Also have your own goals. Set a target of xp to get on a ship in a session or something. Collect that next container. Play the meta game around collecting ships flags and stuff. I had to come up with an elaborate spreadsheet of course (WG - captain barracks when??) but small milestones to complete make playing more fun. Bad game? Oh well, that's 900 xp closer to x ship. Etc.

Well. Citadel damage can't be healed as much but I see what you mean. How does the calculation work for dreadnought? If you take damage while healing does that still go on the damage "taken" side of the equation. Did you look at the detail screen and look at your damage taken numbers - because all you need to do to get dreadnought is survive and take 120% hp in damage. As as I see it if you could heal 5000 hp and you take a citadel, you'll still heal as much but be on that minus the citadel you just took. Now if you start healing and have less to heal up than your maximum heal capability, but take more damage while healing - and it is healable - I seem to recall you will get to heal more than you would have. Totally clear!

Admiral_noodle replied to Sams_Baneblade's topic in General Discussion
I think that's what you're supposed to do. At least that's what I did. So my collection is complete. Just the last bit of the mission to do now. The flower one -
Can't answer the question because it's not a yes/no question :D op has a point, but I don't really see it in the majority of games I'm playing. And I'm thoroughly enjoying playing cruisers. Which might be a self fulfilling prophecy actually - I play cruisers and do my escort role... and the games are usually quite fun.

Ranked battles a waste of time rather than fun
Admiral_noodle replied to Amminus's topic in General Discussion
Oh and the dubious comment is because you can fail your way to rank 1 if you play enough games. Eventually you'll be carried there because of the way stars work. Most people work hard and deserve rank 1. But the fact that some don't devalues the achievement. Personally i would cap the number of games you can play in ranked to "something sensible" -
Ranked battles a waste of time rather than fun
Admiral_noodle replied to Amminus's topic in General Discussion
I am not critical of anyone who has the time inclination and persistence to get to rank 1. I can "cut it" in ranked, but it's just not profitable for me so I choose not to. Now if the next season happens to coincide with some time off... and yes. You don't actually go backwards because you should still get xp and credits out of the game *as well*. however I am competitive. I like winning. If I see the game lost because of myself I beat myself up. If someone else, I get irritable. Only in ranked. So for me ranked just makes me annoyed mostly, which is why I choose not to invest time in it. This season. -

Admiral_noodle replied to Amminus's topic in General Discussion
I'm not playing ranked anymore. - not bothered about the rewards - have my own grinds to do - like playing with friends - don't have time to spam enough to get the dubious honour of rank 1 - don't like feeling I've wasted 20 mins to actually go *backwards* -
Containers - animation speed and presets
Admiral_noodle replied to _Teob_'s topic in General Discussion
I agree. Nice as the animation is I am impatient. When you have limited gaming time waiting for div mates to open containers is annoying. Would also like an "open all" button. -
I think people are over stating the role of ST - once again the tech tree when it comes out will be WGs decision. Regarding the "fake" Monarch - actually I have done a bit of research in this area (I'll dig it out if I can find it) many years ago. And while the name is wrong ;) the KGV 15C would have been about 40,000 tons full load or even more. The decision to cut down to 14" was based on treaty, but as I recall it's unlikely the design would have come in at 35k tons anyway. I do want monarch though. I do want to play the ship the RN was totally capable of building and the ship we "should have got". I want all the ships! regarding KGV herself - with 14" guns. I really want to play her too. The argument of tier 7 or tier 8 (remember final tech tree is not actually decided yet. It won't be until WG unveil their final plans) could go on and on. for me personally I've always felt KGV is a 7.5. Looking at her contemporaries altho the class was great as built, i am unconvinced that "in real life" she was as combat effective as NC or Bismarck. So it's a tough on for me. The class had real flaws and was a compromise. So did NC and Bismarck sure, but in a 1v1 engagement with either the American or German BB - in real life - it's hard to see how KGV would win. She didn't have enough "punch" to deal with the BBs fast enough before being crippled in return. Or more likely her guns would just quit firing, but that's not modelled in the game thankfully! tldr - monarch doesn't upset me. KGV at tier 7 wouldn't upset me. Having to pay money for IRL "non unique" ships would disappoint me. Still, I won't rage quit over some misplaced national pride whatever the final decision is.
-
To be extremely pedantic this was never designed as a follow up to KGV. In fact this to me looks like the original 1935 plan for KGV - with 3x3 15" guns. The design was favoured by the admiralty until they realised the ship would violate treaty so went with 14" guns instead. Im fine with this, but it's not a follow up. It's the original idea :) as far far as I can tell
-
What the game needs is more UI feedback to tell people when they are doing good things. Like tanking damage in a BB. Put in battle ribbons in to indicate that tanking damage is a good thing. People respond well to in game ribbons. Im actually having more fun in cruisers right now. Although the xp economy for cruisers could do with a buff.

Space efficiency is my one real complaint. At least I can quote now without the phone going crazy. Seems to be safari friendly. Cant see signatures. Or the name of the last poster.
-
My complaints are: on mobile each topic takes up too much room so page one has very few posts on it. The stickies take half the page and every thread has announcements at the top. Which is annoying Otherwise I don't care.

What no troll face and face palm? it does seem to be ok on my mobile though. Which is slightly improved. i can do that now :)
