    RN Cruisers...

Give people a chance! Most people won't have logged on yet. Wait till the evening. Games played at each tier with each ship as well as WR and damage will be interesting over the coming weeks. The problem (apart from poor or at best average ships tier 3-6) is the unique play style. Nothing wrong with unique. But. The ships "aren't for everybody" in terms of fun. And yet they have a large appeal... not sure that was the cleverest plan ever...

Super Container Loot Thread [ topics merged ]

I got Zulu x5 in my first container got with xp. Seems to be a theme. But I do like those. Papa papa would be a very nice haul.

BRAVO WG (A British cruisers topic).

They aren't all bad. Tier 7+ are good. Tier 6 is useable. But the 3 and 5 are mediocre and the 4 is abysmal. And I do agree the arcs are too high on the ships in general.

    British AP Issue

I would also echo that having two AP types would be better so you can choose short and long fuse ammo. Incidentally 100 damage to a bb is a bit low. I'd expect about 250. Aim into the funnels almost...

Whereas the mid tier RN cruisers have amusingly good secondaries when dds come sneaking too near your smoke. Which is entertaining. I don't have enough free xp to skip to Leander (where the thoughts on the ships start to split) so I'll need to go through the disappointing emerald and the *worse than Karlsruhe* Danae.

Then you will like tier 7 and above. The wiggle is real and I had much fun trolling bbs in Fiji and above

    RN Cruisers...

Keep at it. Tier 6 is ok and above that you will feel elated. Even though the ships are merely good Tiers 4-6 are a challenge. But I've highlighted the most important part of your summary in my opinion.

    RN Cruisers...

Really we should break the discussion up ship for ship or st least low mid high. For low tiers 1-3: "meh. Not great. Does it matter?" For mid tiers 4-6: "challenging, and for me not much fun. Seriously underpowered" For high tiers: 7-9: "good or at least good enough. Fun" Minotaur: "ok, situational but useful"

    British AP Issue

But the downside is: - it's sutuational. Full armoured bbs (Koenig, New Mexico) you can barely touch. Russian dds will dodge your shots. While us dds will melt and ijn bbs you can happily mash up. - the RoF and arcs and lack of guns below tier 7 make gun damage output difficult.

    RN Cruisers...

WG don't want anything I be trash or to fail. The best thing you can do is: - play the ships and see if you find it fun - stop playing them if you don't find them fun - don't buy Belfast if you Intended to use it as a RNCL trainer until you know if you like the RNCL Then the stats will tell and WG will act accordingly. In this game so far WG have never allowed a ship to stay totally UP for long. Things get buffed. Premiums generally don't get nerfed

    British AP Issue

Yes can confirm they can knock out modules. And the penetration is good Problem for me is Fiji onwards have enough guns to counter the not so good arcs. The lower tiers do not.
  13. Admiral_noodle

    RN Cruisers...

Gebuinely shocked you can do that in Danae as she's probably the most fragile of them all! From tier 6 up yolo is possible but with Danae? Can people not aim?

    RN Cruisers...

The problem I see isn't the ammunition being AP but the guns and the dichotomy of the line. Consider. Fiji comes along and you get effectively two more turrets over the tier 6. 12 vs 8 guns. That's the reason Fiji onwards are so much better. More guns. More dps. More "it doesn't matter if I get bounces because I have so many guns". Then the RoF improves... Edinburgh has useable torps too. But the thing that depresses me is the abject weakness of tier 4-6 where I like to play quite a lot. None of the ships tier4-6 in this line approach "fun". And the problem I feel isn't the getting nuked. Isn't even the AP only but the arcs + 7s reload. If the arcs were pulled down and the dispersion made good at tiers 4-6 at least you'd be able to hit more and do damage before you die. The big problem is as you get too few guns. Too hard to hit. Too little reliable damage if you do hit. It's frustrating. And4-6 isn't where I want to see bad ships. 4 maybe. But 4-6 makes the whole line feel awful because it's such a way to tier 7! I can make the tier 4-6 pull their weight. I can do decent damage and come top 3 reliably. But I don't really want to play that hard every game. My personal feeling - for the tier 4-6, or 3 out of 10 ships (perspective) - is that they were too much effort for the reward. Anyway. I still consider the 7-10 to be useful competitive and fun. I'm slightly tired of repeating "the tier 4-6 are weak and no fun" so I'll stop saying it now

In terms of shell fuze and angle they can pen at they are the best. They aren't really AP shells but "SAP" or "semi AP" which is a hybrid AP/HE

    Grinding for the King

Entirely the point. I'm not going to go seal clubbing inexperienced RNCL players with my bbs. It's too easy and it's not fun. It won't last either when the playerbase learns the ships can't be in the open vs. Bbs.

    RN Cruisers...

Disagree. I found the tier 7/8/9/10 as all good and all much fun. They are light cruisers. They do get wrecked easily but have smoke and repair. The Minotaur was the most fun I have had in a tier X and Edinburgh is challenging for my favourite ship (non premium) The tier 3 is "alright" given the other tier 3s. You can beat a St. Louis you need to know how. But the tier 4 is awful the tier 5 is weak and the tier 6 is average (not as awful). But even with the "terrible" Danae I can play her so that I am as good as I am in any other tier 4 cruiser. The only real objection I had was that they are too much work and not much fun to play well. But some people will like that game play. Question is how many. In terms of "keepers" for me the line has 3. Fiji, Edinburgh and Minotaur. It's just a shame I feel that all the meh/bad ships are clustered together. The entire line isn't garbage. But the tier 4 is and the 5 and 6 are hard work (but can be effectively).

    RN Cruisers...

In my humble opinion the t4 is the worst ship in the line. You can do damage to angled ships but you have to aim a lot higher to get the shells to land on the deck. Good luck if the ship you're shooting has no superstructure (kawachi imperator). Just avoid those. Danae is best played as a torp ambusher and not really a gunboat unless you're fighting a light cruiser or dd. Won't lie though. Danae is (to me) a rage inducing bad ship. But she can be made to succeed.

    RN Cruisers...

Yea I did this already and got all my flags for the day. It is just exploiting people not knowing the new ships tho so I'll stop doing it. If a RN cruiser gives you a decent shot he's probably dead. So far the best RN players have simply not given me that shot. The best play I saw was two emeralds in big race in the islands swapping smoke and hydro. On my team. We won that

    RN Cruisers...

They can be competitive lower tier but it's a lot harder and you have to think differently playing them. From tier 7 up I found (after my experience lower down) that the ships are good. And fun. You'll never win a fair fight with another cruiser so don't make it fair!

Until everyone gets to tier V+ and there is an abundance of smoke. Then I predict a forum meltdown as BBs can't see their food

    Grinding for the King

Then you will avoid some frustration but possibly not get a valuable learning experience. I wish I had enough free xp to get Edinburgh straight away. It's probably my favourite tier 8.

    RN Cruisers...

Ok I went out in imperator to see how bad it was. It's bad. 2 devastating strikes in the space of 2 salvoes. At least I got my kraken. High caliber. Confederate.... ok I will stop now. I have a conscience To tier 3-4 RNCL players. Urgent advice! You do not have smoke. You do not have armour. You won't be overpenned. Do not sail close to bbs. Do not sail predictably. Use cover. Don't be in the open if there is a bb that isn't engaged with someone else... In the same game one of our Danaes came second in a tier 5 game. He avoided BBs (I told my team at the start this advice) he focussed on cruisers and dds. Oh and you will shred dds but if they are showing you an angle make sure you aim at the deck. And if you do end up vs. A BB ambush them from cover with torps. YOLO in the open probably won't work. From tier V you get smoke. Use premium smoke. End of PSA

    The RN is coming tomorrow!

Well. Yes I tested them and they tested me full range of emotions playing them. I can say I learned a lot and the way I started playing them wasn't the way I finished playing them. I started badly and then my performance improved. For the first time in a while I was learning all over again. That in itself is enough to make me want to grind them for real. If only to try to improve on what I did in testing. Overall I can say I personally ended up achieving roughly what I usually do in terms of xp, damage and finishing team position with most of the ships. Some better, some worse. But the play was different. The special AP certainly takes time to adjust to - if a ship is angled you have to aim a lot higher to avoid the sloping sides of the ship, and instead wedge that AP into the "sticky up bits" where the great penetration will do its work. A lot of the streams and videos I've seen I think "you're aiming wrong at that target". Then there's smoke. As a non DD player that took a while to learn. As did not firing if it is too risky... Then there are the torpedoes. At first I dismissed the single shot torps as a gimmick. Now I see the tactical possibilities but I still haven't got them all right - as Aerroon points out in his video At least when people say "I can't do damage in x ship" I might be able to offer words of advice I will let others do ship reviews however. It's not my job or place to do that as ST. I will recommend playing th RN cruisers if you're interested in a challenge and something different. They are certainly that. Have fun tomorrow!
