    RN CL take a breath

Ive been comparing RN stats to the German and Russian cruisers stats after the same number of games. Quick conclusion: tier 6 is in line with expectations. Tiers 7 and up are over performing but this is likely due to the fact skilled players are playing something which other players aren't used to (unlike previous new cruisers). Tiers 3-5 have much lower stats vs. Their counterparts at the same point after release. You can go confirm this yourself if you search the forum

    1 puff bug

Have repeated and reported bug. I found it happens if I am decelerating from about 28kts when I press the button. It deploys the second puff at faster and lower speeds. Suggest not going at 28kts and pressing smoke until the issue is fixed. This is also the worst time for the bug to happen as if your in full reverse but still travelling at 28kts when you deploy you're already borderline going to slide out before you stop anyway. With one pathetic smoke circle deploying only you certainly can't reverse back in! Incidentally if you happen to know or have a replay of the bug happening at top speed (unlikely why would you do that!) or at slower speeds please let me know.

Re: armour. It's a combination of no armour AND wider beam AND position of citadels. You're right Kirov has no armour but that usually means BB overpens all the time. Meanwhile I can citadel a Kirov with a Murmansk. Firing HE...

    Smoke rework suggestion

Well in general my original idea was a buff to actual smoke. But I can see if you can't see out of the smoke either it would be a nerf. However the smoke would be buffed because you can't see through it (but can see the icons of detected ships). Note if a ship is detected and you're in smoke you'd still see the icon of the ship and be able to aim where you think the ship is based on the icon. More realism. I don't know how it would affect balance because smoke would be effective at covering supporting ships behind smoke. In actual fact it would probably overturn the current meta as players realise "im behind smoke so the bb beyond can't hit me as easily". Like I said in negatives the balance would be affected. I just can't predict how. No one can. We can speculate of course. But with smoke actually blocking line of sight like islands it would certainly make more sense. It might promote movement too because people would need to move around smoke screens to get a better shot. So I can't see the idea as a direct benefit to any class unless it was tested. Preferably with some intelligent people who can exploit any new situation.

1 sided matches from last 2 patches.

Skill based MM won't work. It won't improve the experience in most battles. You'll still get walkovers. i can't see why a skill based MM would be a good idea. Plus it would screw even more with MM. Like. How would you do it? Balance WTR total per side (as an example)? Surely that means super Unicum is going to have more potatoes to balance him out. That'll be fun for him I'm sure! Or a tiered system so unicums can't even meet potatoes? Queueing for a game forever?

    Is the Belfast REALLY overpowered?

I still think not enough time has passed for people to work out how to counter the Belfast. Rushed one and torped it in gneisenau today and thought I'd hit the jackpot. Next game did the same. Got all overpens. Torps missed. Found two belfasts instead of one. Got burned to death. Oops.

Clearly I'll never get one But I got done gamescon cammo. Which was nice.

    Guide: British Cruisers

To be fair to WG the changes made last minute were to the guns. The armour and squishiness and the fact they were designed as light cruisers were always going to make them more challenging than let's say, German bbs. So I think WG can be given the benefit of the doubt. The AP only design doesn't actually increase the skill cap. You don't get to skilfully swap ammo. You just have to pick the right targets and aim right. In fact the AP only is rather dependent on the opponents skill (part of the AP only frustration). But yeah. WG could have hinted they would be hard to master because of their lack of armour for ages. In fact we could have known that because historically they did have a lack of armour.... The thing which frustrates the most is the AP only concept. Less so at high tiers but in general the "I have no effective counter" situation is something no other ship line faces. Yes German HE is rubbish and there are other instances where the counter isn't exactly brilliant, but there is at least something you can do. And that isn't something stats will pick up on. Moments of frustration do not appear in statistics. I just hope WG pickup on the frustration factor from feedback and give the line something. Even nerfed fire chance HE at least then you can finish off targets like a good CL. We shall see.

    RN CL take a breath

No that makes you normal but try the Edinburgh. She's worth it. Good guns good torps. Smoke. Actually doesn't do badly in tier 10 battles because of smoke. The only problem I have with tier X these games is salty players

    Guide: British Cruisers

Of course you can track both individual and player stats at warships.today. It will be interesting to see what kind of player out scores their other cruisers in RNCL and what other lines they play etc...
  11. There is only one troll at low tiers and that's the imperator. Low tier games are for a bit of frenetic fun or seal clubbing. They are fun but in a different way. At the moment tier 6-8 is the fun zone. It used to be 5-8 but then new MM happened. Tier 9-10 is the interesting zone but also the realm of salt...

Anyone can do well. You just have to play a certain way. Question is whether that "way" is fun to a lot of people. I'm betting no. And my main gripe remains the flat no-fun zone tiers 3-5 which is so demoralising. You don't get a "good" ship till Fiji and even then the ships can't do things others can... but then they can do things others can't. Again comes down to what is fun to each player.

    ?% chance for getting super-container

Well it's more fun than cycling through missions. I'm not in need of flags credits or consumables so I'll be gambling every time. At least for now.

    RN CL take a breath

I *might* keep Leander. I probably won't keep Fiji because I love schorrs so much and have Belfast and Atlanta already. Edinburgh will be a keeper and I can see myself playing her a lot. The rareness will likely be because people just won't go past Emerald. Then again proper potatoes probably won't notice Emerald is bad and grind on regardless. We will see.
  15. Saw txtspeak in his tier VI dd in some brutal tier VIII MM while I was part of a baguette division. Sadly he died rather fast heroically trying to cap on epicentre. Myself and unknown_lifeform did acceptable damage - 100k and 80k between us, although the latter got all the kills. Killstealer that he is. Game ended with our low health Belfast running from a BB on full health and a destroyer. We got stuck at 993pts with minutes left and the Belfast under fire dodging for his life. Then the Farragut inexplicably sailed out of the centre cap we held and they lost. Excellent potating

We know they can all get good results but you need to be relatively high skilled and concentrating hard to do it. The valid complaint that's being made is that why is this being done to the RN which will be popular. Or would be. Maybe to her people to "get good?" Seems a bit unfair or at least disappointing to the players who have been looking forward to sailing RN since beta... Litterally sny ship can get good results with good play and luck. And enemies who allow themselves to be ambushed from behind a rock. But a lot of players just want a chilled playing experience wrecking things. Anyway this is supposed to be a guide. We have a wealth of "how to" RNCL so that should help anyone determined to play them. I am. Regardless of their state.

    Guide: British Cruisers

"You need to have empathy for people who feel excluded from playing a line of ships that they were looking forward to playing, they may be pretty angry" - this is the main point. I wish the "hard to play" ships had been something other than the RNCL. As notser says in his latest video the problem is sometime you have no answer to a play other than retreat and do something else. A lot of people find the line too niche, too difficult to make work, too situational to enjoy. And they really wanted to enjoy the Royal Navy. I skipped to Leander. She's quite fun but there are moments where you think "welp. Can't do anything here"
  18. Admiral_noodle

    Guide: British Cruisers

I'm not defending it. I'm stating facts. Like USN cruisers don't have torpedoes. That's also a fact. It's a fact that RNCL are better of picking othe targets than low health BBs which have their superstructure. It's a fact that the tier 6+ ships are very good in divisions. Even better if those divisions include ships which make up for the RNCL weaknesses. team work helps too. I'm not defending them because at no point did I say "and you should enjoy these facts".
  19. Admiral_noodle

    Guide: British Cruisers

While that is funny I can explain it. AP won't pen the belt of that BB. Heavily damaged BB will have damage saturation to the superstructure. Therefore this ship can get 6-8k salvoes early on but are particularly crap at finishing off heavily armoured low health BBs. Let the HE spammers finish them off and do something else. Same problem I had finishing a furutaka in a svietlana once. And he wouldn't burn either. Damage saturation is a pain. But not all ships are "finishers". Battleships should not be finishing off low health cruisers. In the same vein RNCL shouldn't be firing at low health BBs. It's actually fairly realistic. Multiple shots to a damaged superstructure aren't going to make it any worse. That ship would be relatively hard to finish off with HE as well - except fires. So you need to take this into account as well and count on your team mates to finish off ships as well as spot for you and get them to turn their broadside to you. Like with torps or a flanking BB or torp planes. Yes. I just said rely on your team mates... RNCL. Best played in divisions (where they are actually very good)

    Smoke rework suggestion

Nah if your pc can cope with islands it could cope with opaque smoke
  21. Admiral_noodle

    Smoke rework suggestion

Because the smoke isn't actually opaque. It's see through when you zoom in. Which always bugs me. Why should a plane telling me where to look make the smoke that's in the way suddenly become completely see through. @unknownerror. Yes that's been floated before. But the idea to make smoke opaque which I'm suggesting doesn't require any change to the actual game mechanics. Quite like that idea too though. Anything which lessens the "binary" nature of spotting.

Go forth and play Danae then Emerald. Sure you'll do well and club seals, because you're a good player, but think how much effort you have to put in to do it, and then extrapolate... And see the problem Meanwhile I caved and skipped to Leander... Sorry, "once" in Danae and Emerald was enough...

Split Topic: Gameplay > Guide: British Cruisers

Well it is difficult to remove the emotional attachment the British have with their Navy. I disagree the experiment is half witted, and I want the RN to be unique. But I can totally understand --> RN finally comes --> casual players want to play --> too much work to make work --> disappointment. Because why should a game feel like work? It's ok for players who play a lot. To them it's a new style to master. But to general players some of the ships just feel painful to play. It's why at a wedding you go with chicken, not fish, as the main course. Some people will love the fish. But half your guests will be very unhappy
  24. Admiral_noodle

    The weekend has come....happy!

Two actually. Took the Belfast out and did a very low amount of damage. Of course i wasn't aiming to do damage. I was all set up behind an island with another Belfast alternating radar inside B cap on new dawn...

    Smoke rework suggestion

...or have shadowy outlines. So if your in smoke or looking into a smokescreen where someone has been detected see a shadowy ship. I don't mind that. As long as it keeps the smoke generally opaque and you can't "see" ships that are detected through it. Also makes pushing into smoke a good counter/tactic as you'd be able to see the outlines of the ships beyond.
