Am I the only person who point blank refuses to play stock ships? I buy the next ship in the line, start retraining or training up a new captain in a premium, then wait till I have enough free xp to get the most essential upgrades. Like Hipper is garbage without extra range. Stock Fuso is trash, Amagi is painful and yes, the stock dds are also utterly useless. In the past I converted xp to free with money... until I realised patience would save me actual money.

No they aren't gun boats and torpedo boats. I was confused a lot in testing by this terminology. The alternative line is the aggressive line. So yes Akizuki is a gunboat but shiratsuyu is a dump torps and leg it boat. I see the regular line as the strategic "zone out" an area line and the alternate usually a devastating strike kind of setup. Although Aki is more pee pew pew till your finger hurts kind of boat. Anyway lots of different play styles to choose from. I'm sure there is now an IJN DD to suit anyone. (My favours was Akizuki. I'm rubbish at torpedoes. Except the F3s. They are fun!)

Well that's the great thing about Scharnhorst. She works for both BB captain and cruiser captain training. Mind you I have tirpitz to train my up coming FDG captain.

Not always. They are usually quite close when the warning pops up. And if this forces me to turn and have poor angling vs a BB for example I will not. I would rather take the friendly torp. There are a few occasions when sailing into friendly torps is the fault of the victim. At least in part. However if in doubt check before launching that ppl nearby are aware. And by nearby I mean anywhere in the path. If you ping furiously and shoot torps in chat and specifically earn the player - and he still blunders into them many many seconds later at say 10km from where you launched them, then this is one of those rare examples.

...they do. All players have access to all of the game. It's misleading to say anything else. If I see a mission that says "play tier X" then maybe I'll grind one. If it's "play tier VI cv" then maybe I'll try to learn CV play again. Or maybe I'll decide I don't want to do I'll pass on that task... But everyone has these choices.

I use AP and HE depending on target. She's very good with HE and I have demolition expert and um, all the flags AP is good in the right situations but setting fire all over the place is also entertaining.

However in general I don't look behind me to see if someone is about to torp me. Also I expect ppl to warn if they are torping where there is even a small risk. There is a grey area with very long range torps.

But that's never going to happen. All of the ships are subject to change. Thing is you pay a one off fee to "rent" premiums and premium camo. Why should you get the benefit of it for X period of time then get your money back when you don't want it any more - playing devils advocate a bit here but I think it's a valid point too. The premium camo still works. The ship it's on still works AND you have another ship as well. You may not like its changes and the new ship, but that's the same with any buff/nerf/change to MM. I can't seal club tier 3 in Murmansk. Can I have my money back?

Well. For me it's encouragement to go do something different and out of my comfort zone. It's too easy for me to sit back in cruisers and BBs and not get good at dds. The inly exception is CVs. My brain doesn't work with those.

I would advise play them quite a bit before judging. I tested them and as a non ijn dd player I was bad. But then I listened to advice on how to play them and got much better. Like Akizuki. Took me ages to realise the benefits of AP. And it took me a while to realise Yugumo with F3 torps is lethal. Minekaze I was rather good in making me think - this is nerfed?

If low tier, take cruiser captain with DE. Burn everything To be honest Scharnhorst is a massive troll.

I'm not going to comment on what WG should or might have done. I can see both sides of the discussion. I do think the solution WG have opted for is a lot more generous than it might have been though. Free ships and free permanent camos. Thing is with perma camo - whenever you buy it you need to be aware that WG reserve the right to alter the ship you bought it for at any time, and the likelihood of this happening is high, while we know premium ships are unlikely to change much from previous experience. So when buying a premium camo you have to think - will I still play this ship if it changes? Am I willing to spend the money knowing change will inevitably happen. Buyer beware.

Well I'm close to killing all the nations at half way but I need 11 RU ships. This could become problematic if others are in a similar position. Might have to organise a RU sailing contest or something.

This. Sometimes I will stay in sniper mode and navigate by minimap. I am accomplished enough to do this without being unaware of my surroundings. I should not have to check behind me for friendly torps. I appreciate mistakes happen but please also ping the map and shout torps!

I have them both. I do higher damage in Bis. I do more reliable damage in NC. Since the buff to NC she's very good. She's different from Bismarck but there are games where I've struggled to get 30k in the German because I can't hit at range. If your team won't support you your life will be short and Bismarck needs time to work to her potential. I also broke my damage record in Bismarck yesterday - in a tier X game NC however is more reliable. She gets more devastating strikes and is better off when you need to pick off low health targets at >10.6km. It's not a question of which is better but which you like. I like both. So I have both - with Steven segal as captain

That's why I was confused. My Belfast captain *is* my 12 pt Campbeltown one.

I'll check later. If the last two can be done in a BBs the mission is actually easy. If it's cruiser only then it's moderately hard, but I've got 7 citadels in one volley with a cruiser before.

Battleship life: Broadside target at short range > overpens Angled cruiser in the distance? Speculative shot? > random citadel Flooding > I always flood if I've used repair. I often don't flood if my repair is ready.

If the ship has less than 1000hp your last hit will be a citadel.

Do you have a replay? I've encountered this on a test ship elsewhere and thought it was ship related. If you're getting it on Yamato then it's gun function related. My instinct says that one part of the game has messaged another saying "reloaded" but the message has been lost, so it waits forever for the message and won't fire. If I'm correct then: - it's a very rare bug - if you switch ammo types and switch back it should fix it.

Really? Well that's sad. I was hoping it would be all cruisers. The goal posts are high but actually I've done all of them (assuming BBs count for 3-5 as you say) in the last week. But now the mission is on and I'm trying to do it I'll no doubt not be able to (or get things in the wrong order) Hope campaigns mean you can choose what order to do things in Final reward port slot. Which I don't need anyway.

Random is random. Today I decided to get some tier 8 games done before work. Was not top tier once. Asked if the tier X players could please go to work It just depends on who is in the queue. I feel sad for stock Fusos when I see them in my tier 8 ships.

Go into the game today. There is a new mission up which can only be completed in cruisers of tier IV or higher. Unless I'm dreaming.

If you assign your Campbeltown captain to another British premium all his skills will work as normal. You can freely assign captains to premium ships of the same nation at no penalty. If you want to respec him you still have to pay doubloons though IIRC
