The biggest indication of game balance is not stats but by whine threads. These include: - there are too many BBs - cruisers get one shot too much - invisible dds OP - CV are **** - he fire down OP - torpedoes OP - overpens need fixing - radar is OP - hydro is OP When I see roughly the same amount of any of the above come up we have a balanced game. Lately the forum meta has shifted slightly in favour of anti-bb whines which indicates that while they aren't OP, there are too many of them in queue. So we need whine threads. How else will I know whether we have balance?

That is giving away his identify *facepalm* But yes. 1200 battles in coop. Totally possible. Player might struggle in PvP because people don't act like bots. But he might have very good aim.
-
Ofc it's bragging rights otherwise why would WTR and such exist at all with ratings. But I'm still of the opinion WR is the only stat that matters because winning is the aim of the game (at least it is for me)
-
Exactly. Look at my Cleveland and Pensacola stats when I was a potato. I've been focussing on WR not any other stats. And it shows that stats only show your journey. Not where you are now
-
a) of course. Imperator i played a lot when i needed credits. Murmansk too. Not so much in need now. Your analysis of WTR is however wrong. Since WTR is calculated against the average stats of the ship, playing OP ships doesn't boost your WTR - you are simply expected to do better in them. I could add that while imperator is indeed OP I never used Murmansk to her potential when she could benefit from AFT and she's stuffed by MM now. But I still like her to play... until I got my hands on Russian cruiser line. b) while this is true my solo WR is still 59% and my WTR goes down when I play in divisions. My younger friends take all my damage Also to factor in that for my first 400 or so games I was a *bad* player with a 42% WR.
-
This. This lots. My WTR is low vs. my win rate. I play for the win at the expense of farming damage. Also nice and appropriate necro

I still don't think Missouri is OP. I don't think her radar is OP either. But when you have games where 10/24 players have radar (5 each side) it becomes infuriating to play dds. Although I suppose really team work should overcome this. Kill the radar ships first. Then allow dds to go cap. But that requires teamwork.

how it feels to play the ROYAL NAVY LINE
Admiral_noodle replied to shane80uk's topic in General Discussion
Find a ship or ships you like and a play style you like and just play those. Don't be bullied into playing stuff you don't enjoy (though give it a fair chance). And don't be put off by tier. If people like ships at tier 1 or 3 and play lots of those so be it! It's your game don't let anyone tell you what you should and shouldn't play. -
Honorable service - 1 mission task 4 BUG

Indeed. Which makes the task badly worded and misleading as well as daft to attempt -
Pearlharbor mission for non T6-CV-Owner
Admiral_noodle replied to xtrm_'s topic in General Discussion
No one is forcing anyone. Don't like mission. Don't play for it. Simple. Yes some of these missions are... questionable... but just accept some missions are "not for you". I don't play CV and therefore I won't be doing CV missions. End. By the reaction of some it's almost like they believe they are entitled to a mission tailored just for them by WG each day otherwise it's "not fair" that they can't get free rewards. -
Honorable service - 1 mission task 4 BUG
Admiral_noodle replied to warmi77777's topic in General Discussion
...suggest choosing a different task. You don't need to complete all tasks to advance in the campaign and you can do them multiple times (just without rewards second time). So don't try this task. This task is stupid. Maybe it's a deliberate "Pratt trap" -
Angles. Also make sure you ctrl-click on the target. So many people don't realise you have to actually see the target us selected. Mine works fine.

Couldn't agree more. I don't like the weakness of the tier IV and V one after the other. Caledon is alright but to have to grind those two? I doubt I'd have a Hipper now if you told me I had to grind the Karlsruhe twice or even more. I skipped Emerald with free xp. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

Saw Noobsplatter in a Hindenburg while I was sailing a dd. We used teamwork to win :o -
As we have discussed... I don't think the radar counters DDs as much as it *hard counters* RNCL. In my experience only twice in 7 games did I find Missouri radar useful against dds - and then it was useful for my TEAM rather than me (I couldn't even shoot at one but I saved our fletcher). However my radar was the death of at least 3 RNCL... The problem with radar isn't Missouri getting it, but that *so many ships* have access to radar now we risk having high tier games saturated with overlapping radar - so that whole games become a no fun zone for dds. My objection to Missouri is that she's not "different" to Iowa - she's straight up better. It's wrong to me that the Missouri - a premium (even if available to all for "free" in theory) should be just *better* than the equivalent silver ship. Her increased armour and radar - not really fair on us Iowa captains Personally I think Missouri ought to pay for her better armour and radar in some way - or Iowa needs a buff. Credits and XP making - don't mind, doesn't affect me

Not a fair comparison. But I found Fiji and Edinburgh more fun than Colorado NC. Tho NC has been buffed so it's fun now. Fiji more fun than Colorado on average. Edinburgh more fun than NC. New Mexico is more fun than Leander tho. Cruiser wise Leander-Fiji-Edinburgh as much fun as the Russian progression and more fun than US. But I hate all three of those at tiers 6/7/8. -
Sick and tired of this bloody game! 1 CA vs 6 BB - 6 hits 5k damage before two 20km citadels!
Admiral_noodle replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
I dont think anything needs to change. Battleship range is overrated. Cruisers have all the time in the world to evade. Cruisers aren't that squishy. Sure you remember the explosive moments but generally they don't get one shot. The thing to learn (which I am slowly learning) is of you're in a position where you're having little impact because you are far away, dodging, unable to land shells... move. Leave that area (often stealthing) and reposition yourself somewhere more useful. I kept falling into this trap too because it's easily done. Firing HE at distant BBs and spending my time sailing around evading. This can be useful if your providing AA support to a BB, but generally it isn't. On the other hand closing with islands as cover and getting into the right spots, popping hydro and destroying dds then ambushzing other cruisers or even BBs is fun Remember the objectives. In domination the cruiser should be guarding the caps not sailing around in the open ocean getting shot at. In standard I like to guard lines of dd approach in a similar fashion. Some maps are better than others but I make a note of what good cruiser players do. In short, loiter around near caps and use islands. -
When F keys were brought in my game "crashed" whenever I said thank you. Took me 3 games to realise I am holding alt most of the time (I don't use alt option in setting by I prefer to "ride" the alt button so I can remove clutter if I need to by letting go). And thank you is F4.

Took me ages to work this one out! For a long time I wouldn't react to getting spotted then wondered why I'd get deleted shortly after an enemy bb appeared (appeared because he just fired at me!) Also from the other side. In a bb I will pick cruisers who sail predictably to shoot at. If your a cruiser player who gets focussed it might be that you're too predictable. Some cruisers I can't hit at all. Weaving IJN ones are the worst, although I've also had "impossible to hit" USN CAs too in higher tier games. These cruiser players have learnt, and it usually pays off. Very rarely will BB players keep shooting you if they have other targets they can actually hit. -
Pearl harbor mission , so how to make things even more retarded
Admiral_noodle replied to Draconobilis's topic in General Discussion
Am I the only person who generally ignores the missions now and focusses on campaigns? You know the tasks we can choose and have control over? Very often I part complete a mission and get some of the rewards. But when I look at some I just think "hahahahaha nope!" And ignore it. -

Svietlans is great but Krasny Krym is terrible because of MM. And because she's terrible Danae is a great ship... okay... However your advice on gameplay is spot on. Your approach to Danae is also maximising her potential while hiding her weaknesses. When I tested them I was still trying to cruiser conventionally. But Danae is more like an oversized dd with a citadel and I should have played her accordingly. -
No! Because that would be abused. Being able to shoot through your allies. Torps everywhere. It would remove skill! However I have been thinking about aiming reticule going red if you are going to hit friends. And something with torps to indicate there are potential friendlies who could be hit (but you can still fire anyway). Also collision damage should be monitored. If a player has multiple collisions in a game he should be warned. Devs can work out what's "normal" and what isn't. And they should take into account the relative speed. If you set a rule that the player who is travelling faster is at fault in a collision you can stop griefers by stopping your ship.

Problem is as I have said from the start. Tier 4 and 5 are incredibly unfriendly to play which disheartens players from continuing. 6 is good 7 is great and I can't wait to get Edinburgh back as she's my favourite T8 cruiser. 6,7,8 are also nowhere near as explosive. However the 9-10 are but have the massive heal. A very few ... unusual ... individuals like emerald and Danae. This fascinates me, but I'll bet they get a lot of damage by torpedoes, using them as ninja ambush boats. -
Guys seriously. Thursday is patch day. Expect restarts every Thursday morning. Some of these changes will take more than an hour to release. Also it's reasonable for WG to patch in the middle of the night as in Europe most people will be asleep. 0400 GMT is hardly peak times! That said for you odd people who like to play at this hour it might be nice for WG to put up a notice managing expectations - like every Thursday morning expect the server to go down for up to an hour...

When it's bb heavy you can do fine in a CA. You have to use cover and allies to minimise the number of ships shooting back at you. If possible get somewhere parked near an island to shell a chosen BBs at range. If possible so the can't shoot back. If on the move keep an eye on lines of sight to make sure you're not an easy target for more than one BB. Fortunately many of the maps allow you to do this in a cruiser and I have favourite spots on all maps. Also know your concealment value so you can intentionally drop off... ...however playing in this way, while it can be successful, isn't what the majority of cruiser players want to have to do. The playstyle in the bb heavy game is frustrating. The game is more fun and better when there are more cruisers than battleships or dds in the game. So OP. I feel your pain. There are ways you can play to find success in the meta. I will agree it's not as much fun playing that way though.
