Commanders 2.0 (new skill tree confirmed)
Admiral_noodle replied to GenerallKrizmuz's topic in Archive
1- you don't know whether the skills will be the same as leaked (this is why leaks are bad. It just makes people panic) 2- you don't know yet if that's the list they *have* planned, only that it's the list they *had* planned We know skills 2.0 is planned. We know that skill tree is what they have at the moment. Doesn't mean all or any of it has to make the live server in the (assumed) current state. Suggest pitch forks are put on hold. -
Matchmaking at high tiers, struggle?
Admiral_noodle replied to HazmatUK's topic in General Discussion
I remember my first tier 8 and the first tier X games I got in. Remember you have very experienced players at tier X. More than any other tier if you're in a tier 8 and bottom tier you have to know your place. Tier 8 ships can usually do fairly well against tier Xs, but despite the fact potatoes exist at this tier, there are many more "good" players - in better ships than you. The key to success in this situation is being good support and not trying to do things on your own.- 10 replies

BB saturation is finally gone...hope you're happy
Admiral_noodle replied to waxx25's topic in Archive
Same impression here too. Sure you still get 5 BBs per side in some games but I've noticed the frequency is less and there are more dds around generally. Will see what DEDD effect there is in the new year. -
south dakota-class Battleship alabama is coming
Admiral_noodle replied to Reisen__'s topic in General Discussion
Maybe. But as long as the *class* is in the game for everyone then I don't mind exclusive ships. Personally I'd have waited till RNBBs were in the game and given us HMS Anson. -
south dakota-class Battleship alabama is coming
Admiral_noodle replied to Reisen__'s topic in General Discussion
Well. Given the feelings of the community especially in the US *if* I got Alabama as a reward and *if* there was no sign of a SoDak on the horizon for everyone I would not play her. If it was subsequently released or one of her sisters then I would. But until then I would not use my reward (if I ever got it). That said, there isn't much of a complaint about Arkansas is there? I mean only people who were in early got that. Not that it's a brilliant ship. But it is special. However it is "just" a Wyoming with some special rules. -
What Were Your Worst/Most Embarrassing Game Today?
Admiral_noodle replied to Mandyxx's topic in General Discussion
Not fatal but stupid none the less; - trying to work out a targets heading by using the torpedo aim predictor while sailing a Bismarck and wondering why it's not working. -

Only one way to solve this and that's with a 1v1 contest -
One on One - Battleship vs Cruiser
Admiral_noodle replied to Sterling_Archer_UK's topic in General Discussion
Except AP can penetrate through the bow into citadel. AP vs cruiser superstructure does consistent damage at a similar rate to the cruiser and if all else fails fire HE. Then once the cruiser is dead heal back a lot of the damage. 1v1 there are very few fights a BB will lose *tier for tier*. -
One on One - Battleship vs Cruiser
Admiral_noodle replied to Sterling_Archer_UK's topic in General Discussion
1v1 cruiser vs bb in open water at pretty much any tier is - rightly - a win for the BB unless the BB us ambushed. If the cruiser has torps angle away and keep firing. At low tier AP will likely end the cruiser at some point. Very dramatically. At higher tiers some cruisers can tank damage but the BB is usually fast enough to maintain range. BB has more health + heals. Correct use of heals and repair means most of the fire damage can be repaired. Angling I'd still needed though as AP on cruisers can be effective. If the cruiser refuses to show any kind of broadside I will switch to HE. BB HE really hurts actually, especially on a cruiser. But most of the time a cruiser will show enough side - or total bow on - to get good enough pens. -
3 games in scharnhorst. 3 defeats. 3 first losers. In the last game I was almost the top xp earner too. "First loser" really needs to be a thing so we can all compare our first loser rates.

Its personal preference. I don't like it just because it feels weird. Now if you had little amphibious boats to escort ashore I'd love it

Is it so hard to create proper matchmaking for people with good WR?
Admiral_noodle replied to FaceFisted's topic in Archive
Current MM looks at ship class and tier in queue and tries to balance games on rules regarding ships and tier. Current MM is oblivious to player WR or any other player stat. Sometimes you'll have more potatoes. Sometimes the enemy will. You can tip this in your favour by 1) being better than average and 2) divisioning with other good players. Skill based MM may not actually make games any closer for reasons previously discussed, and would be unlikely to deliver a much improved game experience. It is unlikely WG would want to pursue this from a cost-benefit point of view. Skill based MM would likely result in very little change with added queue times OR pull people closer to 50% WR. Which good players might not like (they would be handicapped by worse players each game ) -
I hate Bastion because it makes *no sense* that by having your fleet near a fort it switches sides... I can see it's a different mode and more modes are good. I also understand that caps don't make massive sense in terms of historical battles either... but forts that switch sides. Is just weird to me. I'd rather have an airfield or supply ship (stationary) in a cap or in each cap you can try to capture or sink.

Games are more... odd... at weekends. You get stranger player behaviour. However since this occurs on both sides as long as you expect the unexpected you can use it to your advantage. Weekends have no effect on my WR or WTR but the games do get more weird.

Scharnhorst bought via doubloons - Can I get my money back?
Admiral_noodle replied to BruceForce's topic in General Discussion
I think he's changed his mind I too love the ship. Because she reliably gives me decent games. Sometimes great sometime ok but rarely terrible. Unlike other ships I could mention. -
Bow on tanking makes no sense in a German BB. Keep moving and weaving. If I see a bow on DEBB I'll happily accept the damage farming possibility. I'd wager bow on DEBB players game played other BBs but haven't learnt that DEBB are different beasts. Of course giving broadside can lead to more damage, but you don't get that whole "omg omg omg" when turning like you do in other ships.
-
Also true. But you have to hit it. And the same logic applies.
-
German BB's - Twice as many battles played over the last two weeks vs everyone else in every tier.
Admiral_noodle replied to IanH755's topic in General Discussion
I honestly think that hydro and the lack of citadels means DEBB players just get stuck in more - which means they perform better. Meanwhile other BBs sit at the back being useless then get picked off. If you took away hydro you'd just encourage camping more. I don't think the hydro makes them OP. But it makes people actually play better because they aren't as cowardly One reason is since playing Bismarck I'm back in NC and being better than I was in her. And if you have confidence in your ship you're less likely to be useless and also going to have more fun ---> thus it's a very enjoyable line and people like playing them. - however their AA ought to be nerfed. No need for it. Nerfing the AA would give CVs more of a chance and not really change the way people play DEBB. In fact it might encourage more team play. Follow and protect your DEBB! -
Not only that but high tier German BBs take damage from any and all angles from AP for the same reason. Angling doesn't mitigate as well vs a RNCL They don't have good dispersion either. On the other hand they won't punish you for showing broadside as much as other BBs, have hydro and great secondaries. They are the forgiving BBs which will likely always deliver you a half decent performance - and fun - even if you don't have a brilliant game. You're not going to have that "oh I showed broadside to another BB now I've taken 3 citadels" moment you get in Amagi, NC, Iowa etc. Which is why I think so many people like playing them. They are hard to have a terrible game in. They also perform well I think because people are confident in them and will push. Plus they can't hit at range anyway. This means DEBB are more likely to get stuck in and not potate at the back.
-
They are weak to torpedoes. They have a poor torpedo damage reduction value. I don't know if it makes them. Ore vulnerable to detonations but I would advise 1- using the flags and 2- don't get torpedoed
-
You want the citadel but if 1 pen and 3 overpens will kill the cruiser I'd take the latter.
-
Actually if the target is a cruiser and it's close range broadside AP is fine. But don't expect to citadel him with a waterline shot. You're shells will mostly go straight through. And if you aim at the waterline half your shells will go into the water. The best plan - as far as I can see - is to aim for the meat of the ship. If all your shells hit, a few pen and the rest overpens that's still likely to do the most damage.

You missed my sarcasm
