But. Cruisers are the counter to DDs. That doesn't mean they have to kill them. Forcing them to retreat is helpful especially in domination. I would say high tier CAs are a problem, but then I see them played well and conclude its probably me just being bad.

Situational awareness and captian retraning.

Ooo necro thread - you could always grind your retraining in coop. So it's not pay to win. It's pay to avoid frustration -
You are just as good as RNG allows you to be!?
Admiral_noodle replied to Vaderan's topic in General Discussion
No RNG --> not a naval game --> may as well not have ship models either. The game is about "managing" RNG. I play tabletop Wargames (geek!) and that is all about dice rolling. So I know all about real RNG and I suppose I'm used to "managing" it. Hence it doesn't annoy me. Dispersion is "realistic" as well. It actually improves my immersion. It's annoying as hell at times I agree -
Also, read the contest information thoroughly and you'd know that 1-arp Kongo is in the yoko port and 2-no one gets kamikazee until the event is over. oh. What he said.

What ships do you guys have a Love-Hate Relationship with?
Admiral_noodle replied to SeaMonsterUK's topic in General Discussion
North Carolina. Beautiful ship. Fast enough, great angled. But those guns. Half the time cabbage shooting mortars then randomly citadels everywhere! Oh and the Warspite. Can be a monster but that turret traverse and vulnerability to HE... Oh and Nurnberg. I love that ship. I hate it when suddenly 3/4 of my HP goes in one salvo, while I'm angled. That ship really can't deal with plunging fire. -
So I looked at my own stats. Only having played cruisers and BBs. Battleship survival 64%. Cruiser survival 44%. Win rate 59/55. Damage 54k/34k. Average tier 5/4. K/d 3.5/1.5. Kill rate much the same at 1.3. Much more capping and cap resets for my cruisers. Conclusion. I'm actually a better BB player, but not by a lot and I get good games in cruisers. I don't think there is a particular problem until tier 8. But then I have a New Orleans and don't really know how to play her. Look at Flamu in Hindenberg and Des Moines. He's a monster!

When Montana lost its rudder, it became an utter pos.
Admiral_noodle replied to Namolis's topic in General Discussion
I've just read on another thread how Zao is getting nerfed. Montana is nerfed already. CVs are apparently going to be nerfed... So At least Montana has that going for it -
Wow. Just wow. This thread really shows what happens when people take a GAME waaaay to seriously.

Which is why I'm looking forward to the changes to MM in the next patch. But tier IV to VI is where the fun is. Tier VIII is a struggle for me to get into and enjoy. I've had good games, but they are usually long and technical. It's also more of a pain when you lose due to how long it takes and the economy.

New since 0.5.something. It's a good change. Encouraging people to cap is always a bonus.
-
So with virtually no DD experience I'll have a tier V DD. Assume it comes with an untrained captain? That sounds like a lot of coop games first for me.

And a good time to use all those hydro acoustic premium consumables I keep winning. nearly 9.5m now. I think weekend gamers will push it over before Monday.

Was there a stealth change to AP penetration?
Admiral_noodle replied to Pajosaurus's topic in General Discussion
If they are close AP is still better. You just have to know where to hit on each ship. And you have to get good RNG naturally. If you're a good shot use AP. Usually under the smokestacks or guns. If your aim is off its the dreaded 1000 damage per hit overpen. -
Murmansk second happy time

You never need to rant. You can suggest politely i wanted to rant earlier, but what's the point. Instead I said "I think we've lost this. For next time BBs think about your position and how you can affect the game. You're kinda stick over in the corner now. Oh well I got lots of damage in before I died "

Was there a stealth change to AP penetration?
Admiral_noodle replied to Pajosaurus's topic in General Discussion
Um none. In fact AP hasn't been touched. Instead armour has been both buffed and fixed. Previously some wired stuff happened: - shells bouncing off the citadel roof scored citadels in error - a shell could do multiple citadels if it hit two things. So now AP works as intended. It's still immensely strong if you know how to use it. It also helps to know where citadels are. Cleveland for example aiming at the middle of the ship is a bad idea. Ive also noticed German cruisers are quite tanks flat on and close up. Plunging fire is murderous to them though. -
I think I'm at 13 because I actually help out my team in chat. Always try to stay polite and compliment friends and enemies. I know I got a +1 when I nuked a Kolberg in one salvo with imperator. I apologised because it was a tier 5 game and he was trying his best, sneaking up on our cap... As much as a Kolberg can sneak. So I said sorry I had to take you out. Hopefully you can get in a tier 3 game next i also apologise to my team when I mess up and sometimes offer to help if I'm dead if the game is close. Like watching someone's ship and suggesting who to fire at, how we can win on points etc. Done that a few times when dead "kill X ship ten hide and we will win" as I get time to do the maths less as likely at peak times in evenings when all the kids are on.

Well... Lately I seem to be a DD killer in New Mexico. I've still not got past 1/3 for Myoko challenge. This should let me finish that . Lots of mid tier DDs isn't a bad thing.

Mine is 12. No idea why.

Was there a stealth change to AP penetration?
Admiral_noodle replied to Pajosaurus's topic in General Discussion
Well since the last patch my average dmg for BBs is up. Penetration seems "fine" or rather unchanged. Any such stealth nerf would show up in global stats and I don't think AP is doing any worse. I've seen plenty of videos on YouTube since last patch extolling the power of AP too -
Remind me not to play Monday. 1- to avoid getting pearls as I don't need them 2- to avoid the insane games where one team steam rollers the other because people are too busy maximising their pearl chances to concentrate on the game (like this Monday. Strangest ten games I've ever had)

The mutsuki I annihilated with HE would like to disagree HE has its uses. I can get 5k damage and fires on a well angled BB vs. 2k AP damage from the same salvo. It's very situational though and you need to know what to fire when. And given the reload you have to think a lot about what will be useful in 30s time not now. Will the bb show broadside? Does he have to turn because of torps? Another BB flanking him? Will you have to deal with a DD in 30s? Etc.

I like the missions. I like all the rewards. They do need more imagination. Could do with "cap with DD" and decap, and other implementations of class specific gameplay. Hard to think of any right now that would actually work, but I'll give it some thought. Rewards for X wins are actually the most likely to generate the most team play. And the most rage. Assist in killing would be good. Like finish off a ship that's on more than half health in X amount of time. With the reward for anyone who dealt damage to the target during that period. In fact "kill assist" would be a good ribbon to get to reward Teams who pick a target and focus it down. Mind you that helps winning so... Tanking damage would be good. Deal X amount of damage and survive the battle. Hmmm. I'll think on.

Wait do you guys stop playing low tiers when you get a high tier ship? Low tiers are fun! And I'm much looking forward to the patch which will keep the total noobs away from me in my St. Louis. actually I think WG should run a team battles event for low tiers (2 and 3 only) for the lols seriously. High tiers (I only go up to eight at the moment) are serious concentration fests. After a couple of those I take out St. Louis, Arkansas or even Emden for some fun. i try not to deliberately "seal club" by seeking out players in game who seem to know what they are doing as well, like going toe to toe with another St. Louis for a proper pew pew pew battle
