What would be better is clear definition of base game and mod content. Like cities skylines (my other game). Tons of custom content and the developers concentrate on the core game. But yeah, "make your own battle" would be kinda fun, but not sure if WG would want to concentrate on that aspect.

Newish player just got to tier 9, is it worth it?

Check out Notser and other youtubers with Izumo. It's a difficult ship to play apparently but can be fun. Ive just got Iowa and it's a bit "meh" at the moment. But every new ship is a challenge. Play lower tiers for fun and credits and just dip into the tier 9 and gradually learn it.

Do you keep your stats hidden?

I don't hide mine. Even though stats cause me stress, in principle I am a reasonable person so I know: - stats don't matter - stats should not affect your self esteem - stats are a useful way of discussing the game - my stats are generally *improving* which is what counts If I want to ask for help in my Iowa (I do. Please help. See stats) I would like advice from people with good stats. I also want to be able to share my stats so I can have users like figment and others point at where I can improve. In fact my stats being *mediocre* (see my CBT) made me come here and ask "how do I wows" after I noticed other people's stats were way better than mine. I got advice, got shown people to follow on YT and got better.

Yeah. Only I don't want a research job. I work in commercial sector. More money my PhD didn't happen because lack of money... and I understand to see if there is a change in 0.5.3 that's what you'd do, and you can't now. However you can still do a "is there a noob bonus in 0.5.3" test. Theoretically. I still think a noob bonus would be an awful mistake by WG anyway, for the case of the improving player - as mentioned earlier.
  5. So when I play my Murmansk I should never be top tier? I am rarely top tier in Murmansk and St. Louis, but that's subjective and I'm sure the MM is behaving for me as it always did regarding games I get into. And given I used to be a potato, really I should notice differences now. And I don't. So either MM "rigging" is ultra subtle (even more pointless) as to be indistinguishable from random MM, or it doesn't exist.

Well believe what you will. I don't believe there is a noob bonus. Don't try the "wouldn't understand the scientific stuff" though. You have no idea what I do or do not know. for the record I work in IT on some pretty complex stuff and have a degree in physics. No I do not work in the gaming industry. But a "noob bonus" would seem ridiculous anyway, because it would give an improving player a bad experience (bad things happen as they get better) which would seriously upset people as they got better. Pointless coding is pointless.

Are we seeing the Regia Marina at some point?

You'll not get an answer from WG as they aren't going to box themselves in. However I would expect so. At some point.
  9. You are keeping yourself away through your own beliefs. MM is often terrible, but all evidence (lots) suggests it's just random.

Hmm. Problem with "noob bonus". This would require the code to lookup your stats every time a shot landed on your ship. This would be very taxing extra I/o for a server that really doesn't need it. I've not noticed much difference post patch. I've had my share of deleting cruisers and being deleted or not in mine. However I do think different ships behave very differently. Some are citadels if they show their side. Others, like Nurnberg seem resilient except to plunging fire which they always die to. I always seem to score citadels vs. Reversing targets. It crossed my mind that there may be something in game which makes a reversing ship easier to hit. But I can't say for sure obviously. Noobs are more likely to do "dumb" things, so perhaps when this occurs you are more likely to look up and find a bad player. You need to look up all the citadel successes as well as the failures. Even then you'll need a sample size around at least a thousand to show any correlation between win rate and chance of citadel...
  11. A very simple reason for not rigging MM: why bother. Expensive and difficult code. Investment for what gain? For every win someone has to lose so why try to "pull down" "good" players by putting then with potatoes when random will achieve the same results? Just MM on ship tier and let luck sort it out. Cheap, easy, likely.

    New Mexico: at Tier 6?

The Colorado is too slow for her tier as at tier 7 you need to cope with bigger maps and faster ships. But I'll grant you get guns are great. The NC is brilliant bow on but suffers with her guns and yes everything from New Mexico up has great AA. The Iowa I am just having sad games in I think. But the New Mexico just hits a perfect sweet spot and is an awesome ship at her tier. Her downsides like speed rarely matter at tier 6. That's why I see her as the "best" or most fun us bb. The Wyoming and New York are fun too though
  13. So I'm glad someone did the work to show how random MM works. It's no surprise people still choose to believe whatever fits their world view... MM is random. It likes to troll me often, a bit like the map rotation, but that's my luck trolling me, not a conspiracy. (Ie I'll get out the st louis for some naughty seal clubbing and end up on ocean in a tier V game... Every time)

    Share your warships.today evaluation!

It changes every time I look... Admiral_noodle on European server High level overview Plays a mix of cruisers (excellent) and battleships (excellent) Deals an above average amount of damage Very often finishes damaged enemies Extremely rarely uses torpedoes Key vehicle - Murmansk My rating is 1296. I've also noticed it is a little flawed. As it's based on damage for the most part, DDs have increases so my overall damage is down due to attacking said DDs yielding a lower rating. Capping etc isn't included. I think XP should be included in the calculation.
  15. Admiral_noodle

    Enough

Try firing he at DDs while running from them. DDs never expect a bb to switch to HE. It's quite fun to remove most of their health in one salvo and watch them run away or be so shocked someone else finishes them off As for overpens on cruisers you have to learn where the hits will pen. I'm good at that at tiers 4-6. Less good at tiers 7-9. Once learned, deleting cruisers is also fun. Even though I feel guilty as I am also a cruiser player. My current prey of choice is the Nurnberg. I know how to citadel those now and it's usually at odd angles at distance with plunging fire. Tier 7 cruisers I've not worked out where they are vulnerable yet.

    New Mexico: at Tier 6?

I was looking through the bb pages (for an Iowa thread to whine in) and I'm surprised there is actually a New Mexico complaint thread. She's awesome. 65k average damage is higher than any of my other ships up to tier 9. Her armour is obscene. Her turning radius and rudder shift makes torp dodging fun. Her AA is great and her guns are good enough. No good st range but if you're at max range you're doing it wrong. I managed over 100k damage in a loss earlier today. It was close fought though and I took on a full health Kongo whole at half health. He clearly had no idea that a charging New Mexico is a bad prospect and died fairly soon. Sadly, I believe she is the most fun ship of the entire us bb line. Colorado onwards are just disappointing. Colorado is too slow, North Carolina can't hit or pen anything. Iowa is too long, too sluggish to turn and doesn't have any strong points. Montana isn't the Yamato
  17. Admiral_noodle

    New York ... why?!

NY is a decent ship. I managed 4/5 wins and average damage 45k before free XP-ing my way to the New Mexico. I did that because I'd done the grind before in CBT and really really wanted my beloved New Mexico back (which is my highest average damage ship... And I have Iowa). Now that I have a second Kongo I might buy the NY back. She was kinda fun.

    Iowa BB help

I've had 5 games in Iowa and I'm yet to have a good one. Worse still I'm yet to have an *enjoyable* one. I had one experience where an angled amagi took 8 hits for no damage when using AP. Yes I switched to HE eventually but the Iowa seems useless unless the event is broadside on and within about 12km. Now who does that at tier 9? She also feels terribly sluggish. The New Mexico is nimbler and a lot more fun. Even if she is slow. I have amagi now and at least she feels (from two coop games) like she's going to be fun to play. The guns are noticeably more accurate, and she's more agile. I'll try to "brawl" in the Iowa, but with shimas around (and other DDs) it's easier said than done. So far the Iowa is a disappointment. In fact everything after the New Mex has been.

The worst tier 4 BB Arkansas Beta

Until the Nikolai she was the best tier IV. Now it's close. With all the upgrades she's pretty mean. AA not really necessary

    Ship XP and Elite status

Except you can convert the XP to free XP with money if you wish. Or not. So that's why it's there.

    The Reality of Tier 10

Hmm. I tried amagi out in coop yesterday. I had to carry too as two of our players got less than the two bots on our team... 80k damage but made 1k XP - flags and win and prem and +30k profit. In fact I've never made a loss at tier 8 coop (New Orleans, North Carolina) and I would use it to practice on the ship.
  22. Im an IT architect and I can say the amount of work to ensure this *never* happens vs. The value of such work doesn't make sense to do it. Some things are client side some are sever. Slight de sync will happen. If you like WG could code "server says you're dead, reset HP display to 0". Of course that would lead to some other perceived bug no doubt. Basically the HP displayed is always likely to get out of sync with the number the server thinks you have by a small amount. Is it really that much of an issue? It's funny

    The Reality of Tier 10

I have Iowa now but no great urge to play her. I get this feeling >50% of my games I'll be facing Yamatos and shimas. Actually it's the Yamatos which terrify me. However someone pointed out fire he at yams. They burn. But in general while I look forward to tier IV to VII games as fun, tier 8-10. Meh. Why am I not having "fun". I do want to take the US cruisers to tier 10 and make them useful, relevant and fun though.

BB tactics example - Northern lights 4 zone cap

Thank you this is good advice I think. I could do with a "what the hell to do in a bb on fault line" though I usually do the two middle routes on north and try to avoid going to the edges. However I like the outside in idea - I haven't explicitly tried that before. One to do when top tier I think. If you're bottom tier bb the middle routes are better.
  25. Killing a low health DD is always a priority. They might disappear at any moment. Kill it now!
