Moving in straight line as first ship is sure way to eat lots of fish. With rapid fire torpedo spam of low tiers you should basically do course/speed change after every ten seconds unless you have own destroyers in front of you.

    Heartbreaking Defeats...

Well, when team is failing you usually have more chances to dish out damage. My second highest damage match was defeat... Followed by still higher damage "revenge" week later in which I seal clubbed most of the enemy team missing meeting only three enemies sinked by others. (Confederate in seven minutes, High Caliber in one more) IIRC this one was was narrow victory even though rest of the team's score doesn't look like that.
  3. That "times" is well over 50% of matches. You're first expected to act as scout/spotter, then capping and/or putting dent into enemy line to get attack started. After that you should be ready to return to own spawn to protect cap (and possible CV) from enemy DD no one seems to be bothered with... even if you told everyone to prioritize destroyers. Or just simply be ready to move to prevent other flank from collapsing like card house because fail boaters in there rush ahead then showing their side for citadel hits. (and no one heading to other flank is concerned with the fact that enemy's main force is elsewhere) How about Kongo with barely scratched paint running away from own cap and single enemy Königsberg leaving 10k damage taken DD to stop that cruiser? Well, at least that match broke "eight kill spell" gap in between seven and nine kill matches.

Shimakaze in 0.5.3... WG you doing it wrong!

Well, it can't yet completely sink gunship DD in two salvoes instead of just wrecking all guns/modules. So next change after this will probably bring 5k damage HE shells for IJN DDs.

    Introduction of geographically correct maps

It has nothing to do with armor modeling. In fight between equally capable ships there was usually only certain small distance margin when AP shells couldn't penetrate belt or plunge through deck because of hitting both in too oblique angle. If ships showed their sides in straight angle to each others at shorter ranges APs could penetrate belt armor and at longer ranges they would "drop" through deck armor regardless of ship's direction. Reason for showing side not meaning automatic citadel hits was that gunnery was lot more inaccurate during the days of BBs being the supreme ships. First of all target's range was hard to determine accurately. Then add movements of the ships changing that distance, both during flight time of shells and for aim of next salvo. Also "internal ballistics" like shape of gun (how worn) and temperature of propellant etc affected muzzle velocity and hence trajectory. Which was further messed by atmospheric conditions along shell's path. Again aiming in horizontal direction was lot easier because precise direction to target was easy to see. Result of this was that ship which showed its side was smaller target in harder to get right "aiming coordinate": Distance/gun elevation. While ship showing it's bow and getting its T crossed had whole ship's length to hit in that direction. Crossing ship having more firepower available just increased that advantage.

    Heartbreaking Defeats...

Just consider that damage counter reading as minimum damage you've gathered. Already because of fire/flooding damage not shown. Anyway instead of keeping eye on it you should be spending that time for thinking how you can make sure your team wins and enemy loses.

These game crashes are getting out of hand.

Bet they're also instantly beta testing every Windows update MS spits out. Plus add the fact that typical PC is half full of all kind of bloated shovelware running on background increasing probability for various software problems/conflicts. So now on which side probability for cause would be? In one software or all those others when every software has bugs? Sure bug in game as cause can't be dismissed but it's equally and even more foolish to dismiss cause being in that other lot more bigger pile of variable things.

    Heartbreaking Defeats...

How about this from about month ago in New Dawn: Enemy point advantage and with some five minutes left there just wasn't time to go to enemy cap with some ships guarding it. Remembering where enemy CVs had last been spotted and seeing path of their planes I guessed correctly that they had followed map's edge behind attack. And with them together I caught both of them "pants down" targeting faster Zuiho first before slow USN CV. That gave basically 200 point bonus from ship loss penalty to enemy and from kill points turning point advantage other way... Until out of brains retard in Zuiho donated point advantage back to enemy by suiciding "cause he was out of planes"!

These game crashes are getting out of hand.

So which tests were used? I would start with at least couple hours of Linpack based test for proper burn in (or burn out...) then followed by day of Prime Blend. And one of the first results for Googling that error code shows people getting it after bug filled Windows update... (in worst case those have crashed whole Windows)

    Camouflage choices on premium ships

Maybe for torpedo boats but gunships can expect to get shot at in every match if they're doing their job.

wtf wargaming patch 0.5.3 = cv is ded

Well, isn't that why high tier IJN DDs are getting buffed?
  13. EsaTuunanen

You know that MM survey you just did?

Couple AFT equipped Gremlins would be actually capable to easily countering Clevelands if enemy lost their DDs and spotting. But with enemy's advantage also in BBs cruisers probably didn't stay around for long to support in eliminating enemy DDs. (unless Kongos fast killed couple Clevelands)

    New to world of warships

That's good start for becoming good. There are just things which will never work no matter how many times some keep trying it without seeing it as bad strategy. Basically you should be only close enough to yourself hit effectively... unless target is clearly distracted. Especially against multiple enemies distance is your friend. Worst situation is being close to enemies with some of them having your ship's side visible from straight angle. That enables effective use of AP (Armor Penetrating) shells, which do more damage than HEs and are especially devastating when hitting citadel. That way skilled gunship destroyer player can quite fast sink some cruisers if they're distracted. So you should always try to keep ship angled against enemies shooting you. (especially BBs) While angling doesn't prevent HEs from doing damage being smaller target should decrease number of hits received. Also showing lots of side and keeping going straight is good way to attract torpedoes. So if having space to maneuver "changing side" visible to target would be good avoid to decrease risk of torpedo hits. And when spotting destroyer that should be always prioritized. (unless current target is one couple hits away from sinking) That link doesn't work automatically because forum software is real crappy in making and handling links. http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/World_of_Warships

Let's Face the Real Problem with the USN

You think renaming would make them perform on par with ships of other nations?
  16. Now where's the fun in seal clubbing in a ship which has armor?

    Why still buffing torps?

That would really nerf only gunship DDs... Whose job of countering torpedo boats have been and will be made already more challenging by torpedo buffs. For screening DD there's major difference in dodging Minekaze's torps and high tier 10-15 torpedo wall especially from multiple DDs. And with single IJN torpedo basically sploding USN DD or leaving it only capable to running away from every enemy. And while loosing in firerate those IJN DD HEs actually can nuke fighting ability of any gunship DD real fast so Shimakaze is far from defenseless against gunships.

What hardware you have and are drivers up to date?

    New to world of warships

Especially USN DDs are demanding. IJN DDs have powerful torpedoes with range longer than ship's detectability allowing launching them without getting exposed. USN DDs have shorter range torps needing exposing ship to enemy for torps to have chance to reach enemy. 5,5 km range torps gotten at tier IV give some stealth fire ability when target is coming to "meet" torps. But basically also those need using islands as cover for launching against enemy spotted by others. Or in case of lonely battleship moving close to island you can use it as cover for getting close to rush in for unavoidable 1-2km range launch. And USN DDs are really DD hunters with guns turning faster and firing lot faster than IJN DD guns. Just remember to not keep sailing in straight line especially in parellel course because single IJN torpedo kills DD. Also showing yourself to one enemy means every enemy sees you and you'll probably get shot by others enemies if they are close. Further firing main guns makes you detectable from longer distances for 20 seconds. Torpedo range should be always remembered. Torpedoes which can't reach enemy ship can never do damage and more likely just risk friendly damage... Especially if you don't keep eye on that no friendly ship is sailing between you and target/heading to where you launched torps. When choosing torps minimap shows their range as circle around your ship. That can be used for visualizing if enemy's course will take it inside torpedo range. While hitting too lightly armored spot/target with AP shells gives same result as this:

    Why still buffing torps?

Actually torpedoes counter everything on their path unable to get out of way, especially powerful IJN torps. DD basically "splodes" from single hit or has enough hitpoints left only for trying to avoid every enemy. Cruiser can't really afford to take more than two hits... to be able to run away and hope that no enemy starts shooting at him.

    Why still buffing torps?

Seems to help lot with current number of high tier IJN DDs:

Cruisers are definitely best for learning gunnery because of ability to soak some hits without getting instantly wrecked. (well, Tenryo maybe not) And especially searching for videos of specific ship in question is usefull.
  23. EsaTuunanen

    No more seal clubing

Don't worry, there are straight line sailors also at above bottom tiers. In previous match just torped Isokaze. CV spotted it going to same NW cap (New Dawn map) with such nice broadside angle that I though what the heck launching Gremy's "fast" torps for fair 7km travel intercept course. Eventually thought they had missed. But I just had to wait little longer for that satisfying boom... With one Phoenix also somehow maneuvering itself into one remaining fish. After that "situational awareness" of enemies seemed to improve and no one else wanted fish.
  24. EsaTuunanen

    More cowards in this game.

Well, good thing if he at least tanked some damage for the team. In last week in Big Race map I had Kongo basically spending whole match keeping distance from enemy and then running away from lonely Königsberg leaving me to kill that cruiser in DD. While I had already taken more damage (&down to 3 guns) than that coward probably took in whole match.

Don't you think USN tech tree is too weak?

Still even as "cruiser" Montana keeps loosing to Zao... http://maplesyrup.sweet.coocan.jp/wows/ranking/20160130/eu_2month/average_ship.html
